I would find it nice one day to see all three versions of the Tomcat in DCS and to have the chance to experience the most capable version of the big cat.
I think a big difference maker for the F-14 will be when Jester can actually use the LANTIRN pod, allowing solo pilots to do more A2G activity. My one final thought on the Hornet is that it's biggest drawback is still its relatively short legs. Adding two tanks is pretty common and will decrease your weapons payload.
I have hard time considering the Hornet to be "ugly".
The F/A-18 is the ultimate multitasker in DCS although its true bread and butter is still in the precision strike mission. Something that will be further expanded upon when A-G radar and systems like the SLAM/SLAM-ER get implemented.
The F-14 provides a more immersive experience from my limited time flying it but is also more complex and difficult to get the most out of if you have to rely solely on Jester.
The Hornet is also a modern 4th generation aircraft while the F-14A/B that Heatblur is modeling uses early 4th generation technology.
I already own the Hornet and am considering adding the Tomcat to my inventory.
The A2A systems are more complete than A2G. With A2G, you're still limited primarily to dumb bombs and rockets. You have LGBs and the Litening II (limited functioning). No JDAMs, JSOW, HARM or AGM-65 yet.
The FC3 Eagle fits in with a late 90s/early 2000s spec F-15C when you count the AIM-120C. Would getting the 9X be nice? Yes, but I can live with just the AIM-9 Mike.
Pretty sure current year F-15Cs have JHMCS along with the APG-63v3.
There was something about the 70s F-14A and the clean hi-viz paint schemes I just loved. The drawback being the even more temperamental TF-30 P-412A, before F-14As began receiving the slightly better P-414 engine.
It's still a shame we couldn't get the MLD version. That said, the Flogger will be a thorn to Blue in MP if leveraged correctly, especially in hit and run tactics.
Before the rework, I usually had to wait until I was within 20nm to launch an AIM-120C in most scenarios, including higher altitude. After rework, I've had far more consistent launches from 25nm+ from target. The farthest launch I had was at 32nm.
The A-4E is fine for Nam era scenarios. I'd still like to see the A-4F or M preferably. You get the best version of the J52 engine and some other goodies.
Hoping the Hornet can be completed this year but not expecting it to be. While I would very much like to see A-G radar, I'd like to see more current features finished first. ie Tpod, Datalink, MUMI page, ACM, etc.
I had that very same model but had an A-7D paint scheme.
Glad to see the Corsair coming to DCS. With the Tomcat and possibly, an A-6E TRAM module at some point, this will really open up the way for more 1980s/early 90s campaign scenarios.
