Dialing back the glare, haze and dust effects
swartbyron replied to Lasko's topic in Weather System Bugs & Problems
I think the rotor dust is still work in progress. Reshade works nicely to remove the washed out look for me. -

I have my fps capped at 60 for silky smooth game play. Thanks to DLSS and other improvements in 2.9 I've been running max settings for the first time both in MT singleplayer and multiplayer missions and still holding a solid 60 fps in all circumstances so far. I'm most impressed and 2,9 looks absolutely stunning! A huge thank you i9-13900KS, RTX 4070 TI, RAM 64GB 5600MHz

F-15C cockpit overhaul, hotfix, 23.02.2024
swartbyron replied to cookiemonste's topic in DCS Modding
Anything you can do to improve the washed out look of the side panels and other washed out parts of the cockpit would be most welcome. You can see the cockpit used to look with darker and crisper textures in the pic below. -

I've raised a similar problem with the trees here. https://forum.dcs.world/topic/325805-no-forest-substrate-textures/?do=findComment&comment=5217220 Ugra Media have done a better job with the trees on the Syra map, especially after the latest update and I find it odd Normandy 2.0 trees don't seem to be of the same standard. They just look worng.

Thank you so much for this latest update. The trees, city’s and night lighting look absolutely stunning. Performance wise I’m locked at a smooth 60 fps without dropping even one fame below both day time or night time, ST or MT. Thanks again i9-13900ks - RAM 64 - RTX 4070TI

I'm not asking for block forests like in Caucasus map. I'm asking for a textured/shaded forest floor in like Caucasus map to better blend the trees with the ground they are planted on, thats all. The Normandy map trees sparsely planted on a generic grass texture and look ridiculous and don't represent the natural forests or plantations in Britain or Northern France realistically. That said, I'm still a huge fan of the thick canopy forests on the Caucasus map and other popular simulators, it looks real and makes spoting realistically challenging.

No Forest Substrate Textures This is something present in other maps adding to the immersion and helps make forests, well, look like actual real forests. Map makers appear to be planting individual trees these days rather than sections of forests making an underlying substrate texture even all the more important. Looking down vertically between the trees on Normandy 2.0 just looks unnatural as if the trees are planted in a well managed garden rather than a old natural forest or plantation that's been there for decades. If possible please consider this with future development.

CGTC - textures overhaul mod for the Caucasus map
swartbyron replied to LucShep's topic in Texture/Map Mods for DCS World
Looking good -
There is a VR shader mod that reduces the haze by recompiling all your shaders but I can't remember off had which one it was. I've been having good successes using ReShade 5.8.0 and tweaking [FakeHDR.fx] or [Curves.fx] to my liking.

VIVID NORMANDY 2.0 by Barthek
swartbyron replied to Barthek's topic in Texture/Map Mods for DCS World
Wow, Barhek, this is outstanding! This is exactly what we’ve been asking Ugra media for and how this map should have looked all along! Those of us who live in the British or French countryside only have to look out our window to know there was something horribly wrong with the Normandy Map color pallet as it was. Not only does the map feel how it should, adding to the immersion, but the amazing work and details Urgra Media put into this map really pop and stand out. Thank you -
CGTC - textures overhaul mod for the Caucasus map
swartbyron replied to LucShep's topic in Texture/Map Mods for DCS World
Pleased we both are seeing the same thing with those vains and dots. It’s such a great texture, hope we can keep it minus the parts you are removing and its looking great so far. -

Thanks for updating this, though your last update was really good as it was. Is there anything you can do with the noise_1.tif in your new version to avoid obvious repetition in your last release? I found your previous version looked absolutely superb on flat ground but looked a little repetitive and cluttered on the hills and mountains where you would also see what looks like pooled water and small streams running horizontally on sloping ground. So I swaped it back to the default texture on my install for a smoother feel. Less details may be more in this case? I know it's an impossible task in reality but anything you can do to avoid obvious patterning would be welcome. Thanks again for all the effort and time you have put in to this map. -
F-15C cockpit overhaul, hotfix, 23.02.2024
swartbyron replied to cookiemonste's topic in DCS Modding
Is this project still on the go? I'm grateful for any effort that may restore the F-15C cockpit to its former glory. With the game engine evolving and the F-15C left behind, it’s the side panels that look the worst to me and kind of spoil the immersiion a little when I see them in the wrong lighting and wrong angle. Here’s some official ED pics showing how lovely the cockpit looked back in 2012 when it was first released. -
I am and I do see an improvement but my poor old i7-2600 still cant handle all the AI and Syria map at the same time. Operation Clear Field and Operation Snowfox run beautifully its just the Syria map that needs to be lightly loaded with units if I'm going to use it on my old set-up. System upgrade for me in May
