Weather mod v1.8.1 for DCS
swartbyron replied to bandit648's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
The amount of time youve spent starting DCS, checking, closing, making edits and then restarting to achieve these presets must be phenomenal! Thank you and thanks for keeping the stock Cirrus clould in.- 356 replies

How to reduce the haze on all maps
swartbyron replied to Kurdes's topic in Texture/Map Mods for DCS World
I've found tweaking the haze in the atmosphere.hsl works but never looks quite right as DCS uses the haze for blending purposes, so the textures or blending in the distance can look a little odd. I strongly recommend using ReShade for reducing the haze and enhancing the overall look of the sim and it won't intefear with the IC. Along with the Sweet.fx shaders I recommend installing Astray.fx shaders when installing ReShade. I have the following enabled: Blooming_HDR.fx (This is were the magic happens and it adjusts the lighting and bloom in real time according to where you look.) ColourMatrix.fx (Makes the terrain look more photo real to me but removes a lot of red) Vibrance.fx (I use this to bring back colour a little after enabling ColourMatrix) Clarity.fx (This makes things really pop out but can look too noisy if you already have a lot of in game sharpening already applied.) Note however the Blooming_HDR.fx can look a little odd in some night time conditions and outstanding in others. I mostly just turn ReShade off at night but one can experiment with making a separate preset for when its dark. There is a nice review of the Blooming_HDR.fx Here Screenshots just don't do it justice but here are some comparison screens below with my in game with sharpening set at 0.2 and Gamma at 2.2. Ive also attached my current ReShade preset below. Hope this helps some of you Default: ReShade: Default: ReShade: Default: ReShade: Default: ReShade: Day Mixed.ini -
Micro stuttering only present on L model?
swartbyron replied to Opal 4-1's topic in Bugs and Problems
+1 here as well. Recently got back in to flying the Gazelle and the fps problems have been doing my head in. I've just discovered before finding this thread that it only happens with the “L” version. The periscope always on, sound like a plausible explanation. Has there been any feedback on this or has anybody managed a work around? EDIT: Ok, I've double checked and it is definitely is caused by the periscope always rending the view ahead! A temporary solution is to hop in to the left seat before take off and aim the periscope above the horizon so that it sees no terrain during normal flight. At least in that way your not getting a fps hit until you actually use the sight. I know its not a solution but it eases some of the frustration when flying the L version for me at least. -
Has anybody optimised the cockpit textures for the SA342 Gazelle? I would be grateful if you could share.

OH-6A by Tobsen and Eightball

Those pics are still cashed on the internet it seems or they would be lost for good. It's a shame he never released them, I was really looking forward to them. -

They are not mobile, but here some ideas from a mod that never materialised by DrummerNL that the OH-6 would look great on. -
Weather mod v1.8.1 for DCS
swartbyron replied to bandit648's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Low level Stratus 5.6 and 7 The Alto Cumulus presets look fantastic too. The Cirrus clouds are a little to transparent for my taste however, so I've popped in the stock cirrus.fx back in. Nice job- 356 replies

Weather mod v1.8.1 for DCS
swartbyron replied to bandit648's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Oh, I've just downloaded V3 and noticed my favourite preset from V2 "low level stratus 4" is missing or changed? Any chance you could add it back in the future? I've also noticed the default Cirrus clouds have been disabled for all presets? I'm quite fond of the default Cirrus, but never liked the blank it loads between the different sets after they fade out. What do I have to edit to get them back? Weather mod v1.8.1 for DCS
swartbyron replied to bandit648's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
These new presets you've made are absolutely beautiful! The low level stratus 4 preset in particular is lovely and very different from anything we've seen before. The ability to adjust cloud base fully on all the presets is really useful too. The old cloud system shows its limitations I feel however when trying to create towering cumulus and thunder storms. They end up being wide at the top and narrow at the base more like a decaying storm and the sky looks rather messy and unconvincing. So Ill stick with the presets for now and hope ED adds some thunderstorm presets you can week when they do. Thank you for sharing- 356 replies

Weird noise when "solo flight" option is enabled
swartbyron replied to trashcan's topic in Bugs and Problems
I know, its strange. I notice it happens most often when I land out and shut down or ground start cold at a non airfield location and more often than not on the Marianas map for some reason. I originally thought it was a problem with the engine sound not ending properly but appears to be caused by the landing gear sounds even though they are not used by the Huey. Those that regularly hot start and end the mission with out fully shutting down will probably never have noticed it. It seems a genuine bug, the track and mission prove that and the muted sdef's point to where the sound is originating from as when you pop them in and it goes away. -
Weird noise when "solo flight" option is enabled
swartbyron replied to trashcan's topic in Bugs and Problems
There is an annoying generic landing gear sound that can be heard constantly playing in the background for the UH-1H, most noticeable before start up and after shut down at certain locations only, most notably on the Marianas map for me. This has been tested and isolated in a clean and fully repaired install and with a freshly created saved games folder with no mods present! I've isolated the problem by setting the values to zero in the SDEF files for the generic landing gear sounds, subsequently creating a temporary fix for the problem at the same time. I hope this can be fixed in a future patch? Both track and mission files are attached to demonstrate the bug. I've also included the modified SDEF files for anyone who wants to try them. (To use, just unzip and place 'Sounds' in your Saved Games folder) Note, the modified SDEF files will also affect aircraft that correctly use these sounds! Normandy 2.0 Map has Spring, Summer and Autumn only. Normandy 1944 has Summer only.

We already have beautiful Spring and Autumn textures? You need to change the date of the mission to see them

South Atlantic Terrain Terrain Look and Feel
swartbyron replied to Raz_Specter's topic in South Atlantic
Having synthetic textures as option or a mod is a fantastic idea! Personally for me, I’ve always found synthetic terrain textures to be the most convincing and therefor the most immersive. South Atlantic at the moment blows my mind in some places it so beautiful and then is terribly disappointing (ugly) in others, spoiling the immersion completely. If it could be achieved, a blend of both would work nicely. Something were the satellite imagery slowly blends in with the synthetic textures at a distance and with altitude. There is still so much work to do to make the satellite imagery convincing on its own. Personally, I would replace most of it with really good synthetic textures and be done with it. Thanks for reaching out to the community and considering our opinions on this. -
Has this issue been seen or reported yet? We are unable to place any AI flights at this airfield and players have to ground start until its fixed.
