Haha, okay :)

Well, I think the Viggen is superior in BVR, with much better systems, radar and missiles. Also, it carries more fuel than the MiG-21, so it has longer range and doesn't have to waste time on "eco-driving". No big surprise there, eh? The MiG-21bis, even though it was in service at the same time as the Ja-37, was using a much older airframe which put some constraints on the design of the radar. It had to fit into a very small space and that limits it's performance.

Here's what I think might surprise some people: If the Viggen get into a dogfight with the MiG-21bis, it's going to have a really hard time defeating it, and might even end up losing the fight. Why you ask? Because the MiG-21bis has better acceleration, better rate of climb and a faster top speed. It's more agile and even though it looses a lot of energy while turning, it doesn't loose as much as the Viggen which looses energy ridiculously fast during high G turns.

Well, I think I thought the first part of what you think. :)

About dogfighting, I am a little surprised, but interesting thoughts.

How about the advanced avionics?

I believe that Viggen was quite ahead of its time, with regards to flight calculator etc.?

I now really hope LN comes out with the Viggen, so we can test its dogfight skills. :)

I'd rather see things that have actually seen a decent amount of combat as well as some of the FC3 aircraft made into full aircraft instead of simplified like the F15

F16

A6 Intruder

A7 Corsair

S3 Viking

F4 Phantom

F100

Skyraider

A4 Skyhawk

It would be really nice to see a naval operation side to DCS with carrier ops.

For if we go Naval its Mig-29 or Hornet.

Maybe Su-33.

How do you guys think the Ja-37 Viggen would stack up against the MiG-21bis in BVR and dogfighting?

I know what I think. I'm just curious about what you think :)

If hints we think pointing at a Viggen are correct and one of the next module indeed is a Viggen, module we may get is more likely to be AJ-37 rather than JA. Still, to indulge myself in question :

Any version of Ja-37 = much better radar, missiles, datalink capabilities and therefore much better BVR (considering the MiG doesn't really have BVR, any BVR would be better anyway). If it's JA-37D, well it's about the same as with F-15C, a steep uphill battle for the MiG at best.

As for dogfight, well as much as a Fishbed lover I am, I think Viggen would still have some advantages it can play on. While it is heavier, it has more thrust and also much greater wing area (it is called "the world's only supersonic biplane"). It is also at least as fast, probably faster. It would perhaps bleed it's energy faster than the MiG but I wouldn't expect it to be too different in maneuvrability to confer any advantage to MiG-21. Viggen has a much nicer view from the canopy, an accurate gunning autopilot as well as much more serious guns and missiles. Perhaps it even has some close range radar modes? Still, I think at dogfights, the two should prove to be a challenging and fun match up.

If though, module is AJ-37, it could get more interesting between the two. The most upgraded AJ Viggen has equivalent of AIM-9M as the most capable A-A missile they can carry, older types use older Sidewinder equivalents instead, and no AJ Viggen has radar guided A-A missiles. Also while they are roughly the same airframe, there are still some aerodynamic differences, as well as a more powerful engine on JA Viggen. JA Viggen also had some sort of FBW system which made it handle quite bettter in maneuvring, from what I have read, AJ Viggens were more difficult to fly good. Then there's the fact that AJ Viggen's radar weren't as capable for A-A.

Having said all that, since people can defeate even Su-27s and F-15Cs in MiG-21 when those fighters' pilots mishandle their craft, those MiG pilots can of course fight Viggens just as fine as those newer fighters if Viggen pilot makes mistakes.

Oh, and...

I bet 100 rubles that it is a swept-wing MiG-25 with a ground radar and thrust vectoring/reverse.

I blame Igor if it isn't.

I'd say a swept wing MiG-25 with ground radar and thrust reverse would be called a Panavia Tornado, no? :D

Once DCS 2.0 and the NTTR map are released (next week?) all will be revealed.... LN will no longer be able to hide the contents of their Hangar 18 at Groom Lake.......their secrets will be out!! :D

November 27 ¿maybe? :music_whistling:

I would love to see the new T-70 X Wing and Special Forces TIE Fighter in DCS. I think that the inclusion would be a better fit for DCS than some persons realize. For instance, the F-18 is going to need her Twin Ion Engine adversary: [ame=

In fairness, they said "hope" not "promise":

We hope to announce one of these, which is part of a larger project during the month of September, and the other in October.

We fully understand that it is frustrating to sit around and wait for an announcement of modules that are already so far into development; but I believe that you will all be very happy and very satisfied with the reveals coming up.

We have been extremely busy for a good reason, so prepare to have your jaws collectively drop. (Hopefully, anyways ;) )

Not to mention all the work that's been put into the MiG-21 since the 1.5 open beta. From Rudel earlier today:

We now have twice as many MiG-21 liveries coming (and seem to be more-or-less done).

That said, I'm still hoping for next week and I hate the delays. However, every big project that I have followed (or more tellingly...contributed to) has been delayed over the past 2 years. I don't want to be the pot that calls the kettle black. :music_whistling:

We got it next week dont worry.

I'm with you...I feel good about November.
