Is it expected that Normandy will be part of the same Alpha that houses NTTR?

Or will we need an additional, separate installation to use it?

Three weeks ago they said, they will need at least 2 more months for DCS2.5. Normandy was delayed to 1Q2017. So I would assume DCS2.5 will be released before normandy. This seems to be more likely than one more installation of DCS or a NTTR+Normandy version.

I wouldn't be so sure about it. Some time ago it was stated that Normandy will be released before 2.5. Q1 for Normandy could also mean Q2 for 2.5. Then again, at the moment we're just guessing. Still can't wait to fly Spit over Normandy

It's quite interesting as probably many people consider WW2 as not the main stream in DCS. Apart of the map, Normandy will bring a lot of AI units while with 4 WW2 airplanes and more in development, WW2 will probably have the most complete representation in DCS :). IMO, it would be great to see more era/theater focused development in the future. Map, AI units and then the modules. This way we could use planes simulated in extreme level of details in realistic scenarios.

What I dont understand is when they say Normandy is the first map using the new lighting system??...I though the new lighting was part of the 2.5 version and thus, as soon as 2.5 gets released all maps would have the new light system...so does this means that even with Normandy and 2.5 out we will have to wait for Nevada and Caucasus to be updated to new lighting system??months maybe??

Dont get too hung up on numbers, 2.5 as I understand it just means everything merged into one, but items like the lighting system are already in closed testing, in a version lower than 2.5. Its possible we see the lighting system released to the Early Access 2.0 version, it just depends on how all the cards fall.

Thanks for the fast answer sith!!

But, then why did they say that Normandy is the FIRST one using it?...interesting that 2.5 is only the merge, I though it had to do also with other stuff like clouds, new effects, lighting, etc.

Why do you think just because Normandy is the first to use it that other maps haven't already had the new lighting factored in to their design?

Remember, Normandy could well have been a part of the original kickstarter team's work, so who knows how much work was completed under an obsolete spec?

Normandy being the first to use it - could just mean it is being tested alongside a new spec lighting system that will slot straight into the NTTR and new Caucasus maps - which were designed with this in mind.

Frankly guys, we haven't a clue what is going on behind closed doors, so any speculation is utterly redundant and pointless.

We will most likely know when it is arriving a couple of weeks before release, and we will know all about the lighting if and when ED decide to tell us more.

For now, we have Q1 for Normandy, and not a lot more to go on.

Sorry, if this had been asked before. But has there been any information about an Alpha access to the Normandy map for the Backers of the Kickstarter project? I mean for those, who pledged enough according this list of rewards: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=126712

thats actually a good question...its listed as a reward by Wags, so it should mean that those backers get an earlier access to the map than the rest, otherwise it wouldnt be a reward right?

still wondering when the "copy of any eagle dynamics product" reward will be available...oh and the fightercollection hat, calendar and poloshirt as well :)

Well, just because as I said, if Normandy is the first, then I guess its because others come after...of course I guess other maps are being worked (and of course they were intended to use new lighting, dont know why do you think I though that??) but though the "new graphics" would be ready for everything at once, but its ok, you may be right and also as you said we wont have a clue until they realease the whole thing so...;)

ED's hard earned cash would be better off spent on further development of DCS WW2. I too would rather have a better in game experience any day than a T shirt.

DCS WW2 is headed in a great direction, well done ED.

I had just done a quick read on this " Normandy-map"

I would like to know only one thing. Will it be for sale to the public?

I am not in the skill set to code or anything like that but would happily pay to help out ect.

I realize that this sim is actually a " free" sim to a small regard. ( I purchased many modules over the last month). And very much enjoy them.

Purchased all of the dlc content except for the "relic" do not own the mig and saber yet.

My point is.. I do not have any issues purchasing someone's results of hard work. I want the DCS to continue and do not sweat the small stuff( 50-100$) here and there. ( as long as I have money coming in) I hope that something like the NORMANDY MAP doesn't get scraped only because people are too cheap to purchase something for a little extra.

I absolutely cant wait for the WW2 normandy and new damage model. Being stationed in germany and having this coming hopefully in the next few months, ive been planning some museum visits over here in the mean time. Have been to Normandy a few years ago may go again this late winter/Spring.

Cant believe its taken me this long to get into the Tail Draggers... everything i have seen in this forum Normandy is going to be amazing!

As planned some kind of paratroopers / gliders towing and landing functionality to WW2 map AI units to simulate 101º / 82º and 6º airborne divisions / 'D' Company, 2nd (Airborne) Battalion (Pegasus Bridge) or actually has a feature outside of initial release or actually not planned or on To-Do to a far future?

On the AI units can be see Airspeed AS.51 Horsa, GAL. 49 Hamilcar and CG-4 Waco gliders on the future?

One thing I commented on the last screenshots of Normandy on facebook: At evening/night, the lights appear to be on in the cities. I have they will reconsider that- as I suspect few if any sane people would risk having lights on at night in 1944:D

That could be tricky to implement and may in fact mean two maps :shocking:

Unless a code is impletmented to allow server-owners/ mission makers to set lights "on, or off" during dark hours. It would be good to see something like this for airfields too, so returning pilots could radio in for the airfield lighting to be turned on, and then have it turned off again after landing, to preserverblackout conditions.

Don't the trucks at the end of the runway already do this when you radio for landing? Can't be that hard to implement per radio. Might be an idea for that new atc system sowing soon tm
