aileron Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 (edited) I've actually stayed in Bayeux, France so I could go see Omaha Beach... so for me, I'm going to Bayeux and see how close it is to what I remember. Wonder if it has the church there? So once the map is out where on the map or what on the map do you want to see first? Edited March 27, 2017 by aileron 1

Mr_sukebe Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 Mirville. Stayed in an old country house a couple of years ago. Lovely place. I'm guessing that it was built pre WW2, so hopefully will be mapped. PicksKing Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 (edited) I'm afraid you'll be disappointed, the map doesn't go that far East It does. Take a look at Wags avatar. But the details may be unsatisfying so close to the map edge. So once the map is out where on the map or what on the map do you want to see first? :D i'm a sinner, so take me to church :music_whistling: first i will "visit" that "church" in Bayeux, however that structure is a bit bigger than a "church". that's a huge cathedral ;) https://www.google.com/maps/place/Bayeux+Cathedral/@49.2754687,-0.7056572,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x480baca917e52d81:0x2bc587b032c2e9ac!8m2!3d49.2754687!4d-0.7034685 and the 2nd "go" will be another "church". the famous Mont Saint Michel Abbey https://www.google.com/maps/search/Le+Mont+St.+Michel+Cathedral/@48.6365564,-1.5148254,15.99z hopefully they will put it on the map

Cathedral. ;) I'm not getting my hopes up for Mont Saint Michel, I figured when they expanded the map that wasn't going to be worth their time to create. It wasn't ever in the line of fire during the war if I remember correctly. I think it was close to being a tourist stop for the upper echelons on both sides during the war. Since I've been there as well, I'm going to have to just do a pass at high speed and see if anything is there outside of a mound of dirt.

Haha, same here, though I can hardly remember any details. I think we actually stayed near Carentan, maybe I'll see if I can find that exact place again. Gotta ask my dad next time I see him. And I'll check whether that cheese factory in Isigny already dispensed that intense smell all around the area in '44 like it did in the early 90s :D and the 2nd "go" will be another "church". the famous Mont Saint Michel Abbey Would be awesome if that landmark was included, but I doubt it. Definitely worth checking out, though. Edited March 31, 2017 by Yurgon

mkiii Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 (edited) RAF Ford... It's walking distance to my house. Secondly, I want to see the land bridge that joins East Anglia with Continental Europe at the extreme North of the Map. I thought Doggerland was submerged 15000+ years ago... Hawkeye60 Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 Travel up and down the coast following a flight my Father took when he arrived in Normandy. After fixing a shot up radio in a aircraft, the pilot took him for a flight to test the radio. He got to see the entire coast, 5 days after the beach was secured. His comment? " I can not believe how red the sand still looked............" He received four battle stars for his participation in the 4 main battles that took place in France and Europe! Thanks Dad! RIP "Yeah, and though I work in the valley of Death, I will fear no Evil. For where there is one, there is always three. I preparest my aircraft to receive the Iron that will be delivered in the presence of my enemies. Thy ALCM and JDAM they comfort me. For the day of wrath has come and no mercy shall be given."
