ED Team NineLine Posted January 3, 2020 Author ED Team Posted January 3, 2020 There is a line in the newsletter: I have nothing against paying for the new, more capable 2000s variant of Ka-50 but i would like to have also an older, current, 1990s variant for older scenarios and campaigns like Chechnya war. cheers Well as it wasn't operationally used, that can be left up to your imagination a little. You can limit what you use in the ME as well. Forum Rules • My YouTube • My Discord - NineLine#0440• **How to Report a Bug**
Turbo Shartz Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 I know it wasn't mentioned, but will there be an update to the standard pilot model? IMO, the pilot is an eye sore when trying to marvel at the beautiful modeling work done to the aircraft. One of my favorite things about the HB F-14B is the pilot model. It just rounds out the module as a whole. Also, the pilots appear small in scale. Other than that, I am looking forward to everything to come in 2020 with DCS! edit: added one more sentence

twistking Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 Some great news in the last DCS newsletter. Thx for sharing your agenda... Let's hope that like in 2019 most of the announced modules will be release as planned. I've been waiting for the Mi-24 for so long... I agree. I'm still waiting for a completed F-18 though! My improved* wishlist after a decade with DCS *now with 17% more wishes compared to the original
Lock-Os Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 I'm not too interested in the aircraft in the newsletter today to be honest. But I am looking forward to next week's post. I want to see what if any new ships, ground units and maps we are going to be getting coming up plus any new features in the core game. That being said... I am looking forward to what happens AFTER the F-16 and F-18 get finished.
toutenglisse Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 Great news for this year, superb pictures, thanks and best wishes.
Mars Exulte Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 I like the map choice, good for US/RF/PRC conflicts. *approved* Де вороги, знайдуться козаки їх перемогти. 5800x3d * 3090 * 64gb * Reverb G2
bies Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 Well as it wasn't operationally used, that can be left up to your imagination a little. You can limit what you use in the ME as well. Does it mean current variant will be removed? And only newer will be present in the game? And freeware upgrade?
Mars Exulte Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 Does it mean current variant will be removed? And only newer will be present in the game? And freeware upgrade? There will be two versions of A-10 and Ka-50. Just like there's two variants of P-51 and Spitfire each. You can select between them. No idea why people.are making this sound so complicated. You're not losing anything, nobody's taking anything away, and it's not a big deal. Your old airplane continues to work even if you don't buy the new one. It has no bearing on what other people are flying. We have two carriers, too, and they both work, old and new. Де вороги, знайдуться козаки їх перемогти. 5800x3d * 3090 * 64gb * Reverb G2
jvanhoog Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 Thanks ED, awesome news! Very looking forward to the new content. Corsair will also be amazing over some jungle terrain.
SkipCarey Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 What do you mean? Why would they not co-exist? Not everyone will buy the second version. its an upgrade like BS3
SkipCarey Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 Well, I know where all my discretionary income will be going now in 2020.... wow! Thanks, ED and partners, for an amazing year, and what looks to be an even more amazing one to come. The Hind and the F15 are two of my favorite modern aircraft, so I'll be excited to see those mature over the next few years, for sure. Sorry for my lack of knowledge ....is the F15E the mud hen or the strictly Air to Air version ?

Eaglewings Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 That's not true according to NineLine's post:Oh, this seems like a special tab that allows you to select the upgrade features if you bought it. ED Team NineLine Posted January 3, 2020 Author ED Team Posted January 3, 2020 I'm not sure that's a good idea though. It would limit mission designer's ability to set up conflict era. I, as a mission designer, would like to have two aircraft in the mission editor: A-10C Suite X and A-10C Suite Y. And it seems like an easier thing to do than to implement special menu functions. Nobody said if we were getting a full suite update or not, this is why it's better to wait to see what the final feature list is, and then we will have more info on how it will all work. Sn8ke_iis Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 (edited) Best Newsletter Ever! Happy New Year everybody. And some of you guys need to check the newsletter and your math before complaining. So, Mariana Island is the secret map ? It looks amazing, but imo, it's pretty small. 388 square miles. About the size of L.A. ? Even smaller. LOL Disappointed 400 km x 400 km = 160,000 km squared 1 km = 0.62137119 248.54847689 x 248.54847689 = 61,776 square miles and some change. That's huge! Edited January 4, 2020 by Sn8ke_iis typo
maxTRX Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 61,776 square miles and some change, of which 99,5% is water and 0,5% is land. Do not get me wrong, the map is awesome, but I like the facts straight. :D That's enough water for the Supercarrier. I hope it's leaving DCS drydock soon.
Andy1966 Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 Awesome news! wow the A-10 upgrade is a huge surprise. the new map is a perfect choice, it will work for modern as well as for WW2. We are Virtual Pilots, a growing International Squad of pilots, we fly Allies in WWII and Red Force in Korea and Modern combat. We are recruiting like minded people of all Nationalities and skill levels. http://virtual-pilots.com/ [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Do not get me wrong, the map is awesome, but I like the facts straight. Of course it's mostly water. It's a Pacific Island map. I was correcting the 388 miles square figure. I have no idea where he got that number from. Most people don't have high end systems, this will be good for new players with mid range rigs. It also means you can populate the map with lots of AI objects/ships/carriers with less hit on performance. There isn't enough room on the current maps for large scale carrier to carrier engagements. Man some of you guys will complain about anything. It's a FREE map.

Anyways the map is perfect for modern carrier ops. DCS F/A-18C :sorcerer:
Nikke Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 Hi guys, So kinda new to all of this and have been collecting over at steam, got my first hotas and still have to do keybindings etc.. Feel bummed out by reading that I've got to pay again to get the updated A-10C Is it just me or is this a dick move? I've put a lot of money into this game already, not that I mind, but what good is it if I have the "pre-2020" version in say 5 years? Will I even be able to play the current "v1" modules? I expect most modules to be improved with time, but now I have to expect to also pay for them again :( loong sad face :( Somehow I also don't see the "significant discount" to reach steam, or am I in the wrong here?

Hi You don't have to pay if you don't want the upgraded version, you will still be able to use your A-10C We have already done a significant free update for the A-10C. The team is working with steam at the moment about the discount for users who already own it, when we know for sure we will let you all know the price and details. Thanks Forum rules - DCS Crashing? Wizard_03 Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 That's simply not true. Black sea area is 168,500 sq mi, which is 2.5x bigger than the advertised new map. Yeah it’s just completely unrealistic. DCS F/A-18C :sorcerer:
ED Team NineLine Posted January 3, 2020 Author ED Team Posted January 3, 2020 It's from Wikipedia. It's land area, so it's relevant. That's simply not true. Black sea area is 168,500 sq mi, which is 2.5x bigger than the advertised new map. Lets also mention: It will initially be a 400 x 400 km map with the option to expand further in the future. Im presuming you play COD, so just think of having to get a new COD each year. or in some others 2008-2020 12yrs. seems like ed have missed out of 12years of a10c upgrades @ 80$ each. but what do i know...
