What's so cool on this clouds ??

I lost any hopes about the new clouds.

The coolest thing about these clouds is they actualy look like clouds. Don't lose hope until you see them in video.

I am sure we get more information about new clouds and dynamic weather in one of the next newsletters

I thought this about every news letter for the last 6 months...

Actually quite a lot is "cool" about these clouds.

1. They looks considerably more realistic

2. You can see different layers of clouds here (at least 2) unlike the single layer we have currently.

3. The draw distance here looks like it's almost all the way to the horizon. Currently it's about a third/half of that.

The question is: how does this improve gameplay/flight dynamics? I get that with MSFS2020 everybody wants muh grapheecs, but I like this sim for the challenge, if I want eye candy I go play Ace Combat...

Hopefully it will finally sync the clouds. That could have a huge impact on gameplay and could also open the doors for further realism and features.

you seem to be new around here. see, when i joined these boards in 2016 new clouds were said to be in development. then ED decided to scrap them and develop a completely new weather system, said to be released in 2019 then 2020... then?

you get the point. i think most will believe it, when they see it ingame. in realtime. on their own computer.

screenshot looks nice though.

The same way they affect flight in real life and dont just look pretty there?

How?

Clouds block Infrared, so your FLIR becomes obsolete. Your IR seeker missiles become obsolete. Your TV guided weapons and targeting systems becomes obsolete. The clouds that are there already does that, but it will be far more than that in the future.

The clouds, the moisture effects from the weather system, the rain, thunderstorms etc are affecting your radar, your radios etc.

The weathers are not just pretty things, they will allow you as well hide visually and approach silently at the target when everyone shares the same clouds (in SP or MP).

They will affect your means to engage targets as you need to include weather to your plans.

The weather system can change your weather conditions so you can start in nice weather and end up to thunderstorm that means you might need to cancel your mission or even that you might not anymore find back to carrier etc.

And who forgets that it will look very cool and pretty to fly among the clouds?

^ I wouldn't be so excited. These aspects require much more core changes in the code, not related to the weather engine itself. I realistically expect ED to do the eyecandy part first, without multiplayer sync, let alone any of things you mention. We'll also see how they affect the performance - If they're too hardware-hungry, I won't be surprised if most server owners will turn them off anyway.

Ok, thanks for the illustration. Hopefully they implement all those effect aside from upgraded cloud billboards.

Wheather is a BIG part of flight simulation and the weather in DCS needs a lot of improvements. Its sad atm.

Also the sync in multiplayer is necessary.

I hope the new system arrives quickly, it is an essential part for the flight simulation.

I’m just assuming that they’ll arrive with the updated game engine.

Most likely, while I agree with basically everything Fri13 said, if DCS doesn't already do it, it'll probably require some core update for it to get working. I agree with Art-J that we'll probably see only eye candy clouds first, and the rest of the weather system later/much later.

just imagine they get published, look a lot better, add a ton of physics affecting flight, radar, performance etc AND they tax the system less.

If this will ever happen, i am going to frame that quote put it up on my wall and treat it like a mysterious shrine. Where people from all over the world can pay a visit to the mysterious miracle that happens just one time every 2000 years. :notworthy:

I'd trade all my modules for a proper weather engine, man, this is a flight sim, clouds and weather is THE most important part in aviation.

Ehy DCS is lacking on this core feature is beyond me.

Im guessing the biggest problem is the legacy code in DCS World. Otherwise we would have seen the clouds ages ago. The sim is turning into a huge resource hog, up to a point that bigger and better and more expensive PC systems do not seem to make a difference. This is why we can't have nice things in DCS, things such as a new weather system and new clouds.

Your opinion. I'd rather stick with the present weather and have much-improved AI,including more realistic flight models.

But I agree insofar as several core items are lacking severely for a flightsim and have been for years..

Kind regards,

Snappy

That would literally become the definite Flight Simmer's Mecca. Everyone has to get there at least once in their life and worship the holy holyness of Flight Simming.
