Best hardware for collective?

I’ve pre-ordered the Apache and am looking forward to get into helicopters later this year but I’d love to enhance the experience with a good collective hardware. Can anyone make any recommendations?
 

Winwing’s collective seems great but I try avoid buying products from authoritarian dictatorships so I’d love to hear if there are some good alternatives?

I got the VirPil Plus Collective, and feel its of great quality, but i also got their throttle and two panels, so I am rarther happy for their products 🙂

I do want to get a collective set in the future, hows the software for the virpil?

I'm also thinking about a collective and, between the two on the market, Virpil seems rather superior. I watched RedKite's new video on the Winwing collective and I wasn't all that impressed. It seemed a bit clunky and not entirely well done.

 

I'm personally going to hold out for now and just hope Virpil are secretly developing an Apache grip - surely that would sell better than the Ka-50 one!? They've known DCS was doing the Apache for nearly a year now, so you never know...

In themselves, they are all not bad, but there is not yet a proper grip with enough keys.

I bought the collective from K-51, his thread describing it and means for ordering are in the “for sale” section of these forums… very pleased with it, fly mainly the MI-8, the Hind, and the Huey.

I'm very happy with my K-51.
Wish it could have accommodate more than the default grip though.

K51 for me too. Can't beat the price.

Do I wish for more buttons/switches? Who doesn't?

But I'm sure I'll make it work with VA.

 

If you are rich, Komodo is working on/making Apache collective.

Very easy, sometimes you need to check some YouTube tutotials or some Reddit/Forum posts.. but in general very easy.

Virpil should not be an option then either for you personally.. It’s not as if Belarus and Russia are big on human rights and free speech either..

Belarus especially not, being referred to as Europe s last dictatorship and Russia.. well.

I have chosen to go with Winwing and have enjoyed it so far. I like the feel of the collective and have used it flying the KA50, Huey and the CH47 mod. Some of the buttons are a little hard to reach. For the hell of it I also tried it out on Enemy Engaged modded 16.2 and felt comfortable flying various helo’s. I am not surprised that there are very few companies making collectives as helo sims are few and far between so what is available is gonna be from businesses located in countries who have questionable practices.

No, Virpil might also be a problem. I wouldn't mind buying from independent vendors as long as I'm sure it is indeed a vendor completely independent from the regime. I just don't trust China on that regard whereas Russia isn't quite the same "tight ship" (Belarus might be though). Just my opinion of course and I'm open to more facts proving I might be over cautious.

Is anyone familiar with Komodo's MK2 base unit? I can't find any info on how it can be chair mounted.

Please backtrack and let us know if this works. I've stood off of a collective because I didn't see one with what I felt was enough mappable controls on it.  

 

What you're showing here blows that limitation out of the water.

It does work, a few people here have done it. I ordered it myself but then discovered that the mounting solution they chose wouldn't work for me.

I use the Virpil collective base plus in combination with the Alpha-L grip

 

After about 20 hours of use, I was a bit concerned when I already had to tighten the friction screws on the collective base. But now, after a few more weeks in use, it's still working like a charm and it didn't need any more adjustment.

 

The software was/is very easy to use.. Tbh, I only just did the initial setup and started flying, there are probably lots of additional programming options that I'm not aware of (and frankly, don't need)

 

The Alpha-L grip is simply fantastic. It's an absolute joy to use and has about 32 button (if I counted correctly), a lockable twist axis, a lever axis and an X/Y ministick.

 

Since I received my collective, I've only flown the Hind. Did about an hour Hornet and got sucked back into the Hind 😛

(though, that might also say something just about how much I love flying the Hind 😉)

Thanks for the insight, then the purchase is probably not quite so blind after all!

 

Virpil have announced another handle, but the keys are apparently still less than your option
