Hotdognz Posted June 20 Posted June 20 Well done ED on Marianas WW2, its a nice map and has a great WW2 and Vietnam feel about it, runs so much better then the original map. 3
waterman Posted June 20 Posted June 20 (edited) Thankyou for the Free Marianas WW2 Map its Great ! At present the Sugar Mill Locomotives and wagons are just baked into the Marianas WW2 map at the various sugar mill yards. They cannot be placed as user trains. Maybe the usable ones will be released in the upcoming assets addon. The Narrow Gauge Railway Tracks are now 3d and look great. The DCS Trains will run on the tracks but are oversize and are for the larger Gauge. I have a Narrow Gauge 060 Sugar Mill Steam Locomotive that has fully animated wheels and valve gear , i am hacking it together from bits and pieces for the Marianas WW2 Sugar cane Railway System. She needs a few more small tweeks before i upload it to the files section. If you like you can view the Locomotive Animated Valve Gear in the short video. I am hacking together a few narrow gauge wagons also. I am pleased so far as She is looking very nice and blends in very well with the Islands Scenery. marianas loco valvegear.flv Edited June 21 by waterman 6

You can take off and land the Phantom from Ushi Airport very easily. I know because I have done it. Czar66 Posted June 20 Posted June 20 Great first impressions, but it desperately needs the Japanese WWII fighters in the sim even if it is AI only. Ironically, it is currently more fitting to Vietnam scenarios than WWII atm. 3

Can't ED or a 3rd-party do a Vietnam Theater Map - 1968-ish, even as an interim with this level of vegetation? I say "Vietnam Theater" because it "should" cover a lot of Thailand and Laos, too. I suppose that may be a 150 GB+ map, though! Takhli, Korat, Ubon, Udorn, and Nakhon Phanom are all in Thailand. The F-4E, F-100D, A-1H, A-7E, A-6E, A-4E-C, MiG-17, MiG-19 and MiG-21 will all find homes on that map. ...coming in 2027? Then enhance the vegetation later. But right now, I'm going to try to get this Marianas WWII map and the F4U-1D!!

Qcumber Posted June 22 Posted June 22 (edited) My impressions of this map after flying for a while is that it simply looks great. I am not noticing any significant differences in terms of FPS compared to the modern map. But FPS below VR headset refresh is much smoother for some reason. So the overall experience is much better. Edit: after more testing there is no difference between maps. Esac_mirmidon Posted June 22 Posted June 22 In my case there are terrible stutters flying low over Guam. Other islands doesnt have so may forest and trees and are better, but Guam is a Stutter festival, terrible FPS flying low. 2 " You must think in russian.." Edit: after more testing there is no difference between maps. I have compared tracks on Marianas WWII and modern with an FU4 flying over Guam. FPS is 72 over sea at 6000ft. Moving closer to land FPS drops to about 60 FPS. At lower altitude it drops to 45-50 FPS with ground stutter. WWII Marianas looks great, and I am very pleased that it has been released, but for me there is no performance improvement. Update (25 June 25): I am finding that performance is better for me in VR without using QVFR. I need to do more testing. waterman Posted June 24 Posted June 24 (edited) I am working on Rolling Stock for the Marianas Narrow Gauge Railways. Some simple but interesting rolling stock. Great for moving supplies around on the Islands from the Jetties and Airfields. - 060 Steam Locomotive - Flat Wagon - Flat Wagon With WW2 Poison Box - Flat Wagon With Gas Tank - Flat Wagon With Oil Barrels - Torpedo Wagon. Just a few more wagons to make then i will sort out the upload. Wagon wheels - i got rid of the spoked wheels as they caused terrible wagon wheel reverse effects - the disc wheels work great and rotate real well. Usually an anoying feature of DCS trains is they reverse at the end of the route going back and forth on the route for ever. However on the Marianas Islands the routes are fairly short and all single track so push pull trains work really well in this manner with the small Locos struggling with the heavy WW2 supply trains. Just got to do the Normals and RoughMets for all the wagons and Locomotive and should be done. Edited June 27 by waterman 7

Qcumber Posted June 25 Posted June 25 There seems to be a performance hit below about 2000ft; FPS drops to about 50-65. Above this I can maintain a steady 72 FPS (VR).
