The DCS: Cold War Germany map, long requested by our customers, recreates central Europe at the height of the Cold War in the 1980s. This map of West Germany, East Germany, parts of Poland, Czechoslovakia, and the Low Countries centres on the strategically important Fulda Gap and also includes areas of the Baltic Sea for naval operations. The map measures 980x800 km and accurately reproduces the cities of Berlin, Frankfurt am Main, Hamburg, Magdeburg, Leipzig, Hannover, Lübeck and others.

Hero2.png

The map features over 100 highly detailed military airfields and heliports such as Ramstein, Spangdahlem, Hahn, Bitburg, Sembach and large civil airfields like Tegel, Schönefeld, Tempelhof, Frankfurt, Hamburg, and Hannover. Numerous army bases, listening posts, naval bases, training grounds, weapon storage facilities, and the militarized frontier between East and West Germany.

Ugra-Media has invested in detail, providing users a rich environment for endless complex missions and campaigns with accurate reproduction of the road and rail network, along with the power plants and electricity grid, industrial sites, mines, tunnels, stadiums, rail yards and stations, as well as cultural landmarks.

Hero4.png

The initial release of the map will focus on the central portion of East and West Germany with summer textures that will allow the creation of unlimited "what if" scenarios in Europe. Later updates will add additional detail, airfields, and other features to the north and south, as well as west to include parts of the Netherlands, Belgium, and Denmark with Spring, Autumn, and Winter textures. I was at the US Air Base Spangdahlem Open House in 2011.
And soon I'll be able to fly the F-16 and A-10 from the Air Base myself. How cool is that? 😀

Thanks in advance to everyone who's working so hard on this and making our dreams come true. :pilotfly:

Very exciting news confirming the details & that its been made by Ugra-Media.

Just hope there is also a Phase 4 : WWII version - even if much further down the line.

I'm sure many would be prepared to pay extra for that?

Screenshots look amazing, and dare I say it, almost ready for release...?

So glad they included some Baltic.  So glad they made it temporally relevant.  Wen Tornado?

Need more cold war era planes...

Upcoming Mig 29 and Tornado checks out...already the F4 plus Viggen is already there.

Would love to see something of a true cold war era module to go with it,

Red : Mig 23, Mig 27 and the Su 7/17/22 series.

Blue: Hawker Hunter, Jaguar, EE lightning

New favorite map!

Ok, I can't hop over to Prague for a beer, but I guess I'll settle for brats and beer at Zum Gilden Stern in Nuremberg.  That will keep me fueled up for a while!

Almost every plane we have in DCS, other than the WW2 props, is a Cold War era plane.  People seem to forget that the Cold War didn't end in 1975, it ended in 1991, and included the entire first decade of the computer revolution.  There were plenty of planes with MFDs, HUDs, FLIRs, and other technology that is still relevant today.  The F-15C, F-16C, and F-18C are all Cold War planes, and so is the F-15E.  It's always fun to see the Viggen brought up in this context as well, since the AJS-37 that we have in the game didn't enter service until after the Cold War (1993 or so).

Although I do think it would be great if ED could add an option to the Mission Editor to restrict pilot helmet options, so missions could enforce whether HMD and/or NVGs are available.  Other than weapons, that's probably the single biggest and most noticeable anachronism for a Cold War setting for the F-16 and F-18.

Great details on the map! I think this map will be perfect for Combined Arms.

I'm really worrying about my SSD space now.

A w e s o m e ! 😍

The size of this map (phase 3) exceeds my expectations. Thank you so much for (eventually) adding Dutch and Belgian airbases! (Can't wait to fly DCS from the bases I've served on as an F-16 mechanic, for over a decade).

"Cold War era" obviously, but it must be said: excellent choice!

And "Ugra", so it's going to be good 👍

(No I'm not sponsored by Ugra, just enthusiastic 😉)
