So I was thinking about this last night. How sweet would it be to hold an old school Miramar/Top Gun tournament online and treat it like the movie, winner takes home the trophy.

Then I got to thinking how well suited a map of that area would be for training on all levels. You have Fighter Weapons School at Miramar, you have San Clemente where naval special warfare trains and uses air assets for CAS, you have the ship yard for the pacific in San Diego along with NAS North Island, you have a training range at the end of the island for Sea Hawks, you have the Mexican coast line 4 miles south of San Diego. The list goes on. With the new carrier module coming out, it would be an ideal area for carrier training/operations. Not to mention the various environments from coastal, forest, mountain and city, all in one map. Numerous civilian airports, along with the possibility of creating fictitious drug running operations out of Mexico.

Let me know what you guys think?

This has been brought up many, many times in the past -- especially recently since DCS is taking a Navy/Marine direction on the recent modern jets -- the takeaways of each discussion has been:

- The community 100% agrees with you and would love to see the NTTR map expanded West and South, would potentially make it the best/most relevant map we have

- ED has said they are done expanding NTTR and there are no plans for this to ever be done

Regarding NAS Miramar in the 80's, something was already created as an add-on scenario for FSX, so it would definitively be possible.

I can only say, that scenario is GREAT - if available I would buy it again for DCS.

I understand not extending the NTTR map. But maybe an entirely new map with San Diego, NAS Miramar, San Clemente Island, Edwards AFB, San Diego International and Las Angeles International. I still think it provides a lot of military training opportunities, especially for future Sea born operations/modules. There is no reason to try and attach that map to the NTTR. To far away. Plus, if they could extend it far enough to hit Edwards, we would have an AF training base.

Who remembers the 1984 film Red Dawn. The wheat harvest has failed in the Soviet Union, NATO has fallen apart and the USA is isolated. Russia and her allies invade the NW states of America and the southern part of Canada for resources. An ideal map would be the west coast around Portland, Seattle and Vancouver.

Lots of mountains, a coast line for marine operations and some major cities with airports, major and minor.

Lots of what ifs could be played out.

in the meantime, you can have a look at ftx/orbx. it's for other sim platforms, but still nice to fly in.

I have really enjoyed flying in the NTTR area map.  Has there been any discussion on bringing that same enjoyment to Canada with Cold Lake Air Weapons Range (CLAWR)?  We have Maple Flag Campaigns, but not being held in the proper setting, CLAWR.  See link below.

P.S.  I have this posted in DCS World 2.5 Wish List and it should be here.

It would be great and relatively easy to create a map of just a small piece of coastline, preferably NAS Oceana and hundreds of miles each direction of ocean.

Being an easy map should make it quick and cheap as well as:

- Good for simming home base for F/A-18C and F-14 squadrons.

- flying out to the boat.....leaving for deployment.

- enough ocean for blue water ops

- enough oceans for naval fleet battles

Bringing the fighting to the Americas is a fascinating idea. We should get this map. It's a beautiful scenery and a plausible flash point.

Go from Miami to south of the Cuban island, and you have a good scenery that can use most of the game's assets.

This would be great! Florida and the Caribbean area has tons of traffic and we could explore lots of SAR, contraband interdiction missions aside from the usual force on force stuff we're used to.

Also, lots of people live in Florida (greetings from Melbourne!) and we'd love to fly DCS over our home turf. It's a lovely spot to look at and we have lots of aviation and space history and landmarks. The Space Center in particular with the Shuttle landing area, launch pads, Patrick AFB (or SFB, as it is now), MCO and MLB airports, FLL and MIA, so many more. TICO airport has the VAC museum, who's F-8 will serve as reference for the upcoming Crusader module.

It would be a great map but probably pretty resource intensive to create. But, hey, Florida is an easy place to get to. You can include Pensacola for training, even Hurlburt Field! Tampa for MacDill AFB. NAS Key West for F-5 dets!

You could expand this out to include The Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, Haiti, the D. R., Mexico, Jamaica, Belize (Harrier action, and even ancient temples from which to launch X-wing from!), Guatemala, Honduras... SO MUCH potential for scenarios it's actually making my head spin.

It's an aviation goldmine.

I agree, this is actually one of the better suggestions I've seen for a new map, but I think it needs a good hurricane implementation in the weather system for full effect.

Wait, wait... That's a big jump from Hurlburt to MacDill... gotta be something else in between 🧐

Not quite the same, but I happen to have whipped this up using Google Maps and MS Paint yesterday. I'm pining for a map that covers at least some of the major USN training centers, and this one has NAS Meridian and NAS Pensacola. After I finished it, it occurred to me I could halve the width and stretch the height down to cover NAS Key West as well. Not sure if that would reach Cuba. I'll play around some more today and see what I can come up with.

The size is 800km x 400km, making it just a bit larger overall than the Syria map. I was working in 200km increments because of the Google Maps scale, and you could probably lop a bit off the edges if it's too much.

Southeastern US Map w/ NAS Meridian & NAS Pensacola

ETA: based on just eyeballing it, I don't think it's going to be possible to get both NAS Pensacola and Cuba on the same map, within the constraints of existing DCS map sizes. The western half of Cuba, maybe, which would include Havana.

HI.

Don´t forget the Bermuda's triangle, wich could axplain many of the bugs!🤪

Yes please! No disrespect to Nevada, but I would like at least one continental US map with a Naval Air Station and enough ocean for carrier ops.

Posted

I just made this using Google Maps and MS Paint. It's 600km x 500km, the same size as the Syria map. Almost made it to Bermuda, but couldn't stretch quite that far. Maybe since it's mostly ocean, a larger map might be possible?

The two closeups at the bottom show airports around NAS Oceana and Nags Head, respectively.
