Corrigan Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 I would submit that more lifelike soldiers should not be any higher than 20th on the list of things to spend developer time on. Win10 x64 | SSDs | i5 2500K @ 4.4 GHz | 16 GB RAM | GTX 970 | TM Warthog HOTAS | Saitek pedals | TIR5
mjeh Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 Aoother question, will 2.0 use updated models for soldiers? I think current soldiers are not life-like. Skeleton animations is listed as one of the features/ capabilities of EDGE/ DCS 2. In earlier discussions regarding more realistic (and even playable) infantry this very point was mentioned as a prereq. I don't want to fuel speculations that there will be playable infantry as a consequence, because there is nothing to substantiate that notion atm, but it seems to me it implies greatly improved soldier models. If you were talking about soldiers as modelled in vehicles then I apologize for the digression :)

Exorcet Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 Iran is coming in new map and I would love to have following added; ... MIM-23 HAWK ... You need to build more missions lol There is an interesting thing to consider about Iran (and a few other nations) that aren't currently in the sim though. Mass introduction of new units? NRG-Vampire Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 (edited) Must feel great when the handles punch your chest... come on, use your imagination :D sure they will dig the whole wheelbarrow under the ground on concrete/hard surface they will remove the gun sure that wheelbarrow for move only and not for use on that "mount" they are not so dumb that they will not recognize the recoil effect after a few shot underestimating the enemy is a dangerous thing, the wheelbarrow is a misguidance: that does not kill but the gun does Edited September 12, 2014 by NRG-Vampire

shagrat Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 (edited) As opposed to this, which resembles a google map screenshot. I think it more resembles a screenshot from the ED Terrain viewer , which doesn't represent how it will look in game later. For me it doesn't matter if or how they implement which technology... Results! That is what I'm interested in. If it looks better (more realistic) than what we have now. Or if it looks better than FSX. Or if it looks better than X-Plane. And hell yes, it does! And it comes with support of large maps! There were so many useless posts "demanding" to get ground detail up to "modern standard" from people obviously peeking at Battlefield or ArmA, etc. that missed the important point: currently we work on a map that easily exceeds any map of a ground warfare game out there. Yet jet pilots already would like to see a "larger" map, because you can fly from Anapa to Vaziani in one go without refuelling. All ground shooter maps including ArmA are tiny compared to DCS. I remember a nice comparison between ArmA maps and Nevada, where Las Vegas was larger than the whole ArmA map! So at the moment and with no comparable flight SIM out there, I'm more than happy with the improvements to come. :D EDIT the IL2 BOS map is some 390 x 280 something IIRC so not even close to Nevada in DCS... VincentLaw Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 (edited) there is an other combat flight sim with larger maps.We still don't know how the new maps in EDGE will handle the edge. The entire Black Sea is navigable in the current map. Depending upon how much water is included, it may be possible to do carrier ops from somewhere out in the Arabian Sea. Based on this quote: "The region also includes the vast Arabian Sea that is well-suited to combat aircraft carrier operations." you might be able to fly over from near the coast of India (though probably undetailed India) also, the post says "390 x 390 km highly detailed map area". I wouldn't read too much into it, but we don't know what they might do regarding low detail area surrounding that. A simple height map with low res textures in the surrounding area probably wouldn't take too much to add. Edited September 12, 2014 by VincentLaw [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Abburo Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 Procedural maps have another impact. While the ideea itself is by far greatest ever, the drawback is the processing power needed for it while in-game time is passing and various changes starts to appear (terrain deformations, wrecked buildings and so on). For the moment, large worlds with procedural maps are subject of MMOs server farms, or single player games. I am not saying procedural maps cannot be used in local games, I am just saying that in multiplayer there is a bigger need of server power to accomodate all changes. Let's wait for EDGE... we will have a more clear ideea how it will work and what it will be possible. For those who cannot wait anymore, try read a book, watch a movie etc until EDGE will come ;). Time is passing anyway ! Romanian Community for DCS World HW Specs: AMD 7900X, 64GB RAM, RTX 4090, HOTAS Virpil, MFG, CLS-E, custom

Just a set of textures onto a height map with less accuracy and maybe some standard object templates at points... the intention is to have terrain linking the maps, not replacing them!
