you dont need to, it is optional, and wont restrict your current use of the terrain in multiplayer or campaigns If you do decide to upgrade the discount option are nice. DCS: Normandy 2 will be available as a complete map for $59.99 USD. If you have either DCS: Normandy 1944 or DCS: The Channel maps, you can purchase Normandy 2 for $14.99 USD. If you own both, you can purchase DCS: Normandy 2 for only $9.99 USD. thanks10 points

I have been working on something special for my fellow Phantom Phans for about a year Still ironing out the last of the kinks before releasing the files for free Will include a BOM and video build guide I 3D modelled this myself off of an actual B-8/MC-2 grip laser scan I hope to release before HB releases their phantom so that fellow Phantom Phans and all century series lovers can fly their jet/heli with a 1:1 scale grip! Here is a funny video with a (very very very) early prototype/rough print showing the hilarious upper limit of button expansion with this system:8 points

The amount of work this team has put into this map update is incredible, its not an easy skill to learn, its artistic in nature. 9.99 if you own the original map and the Channel map is more than fair in our minds. As for your comment on upgrades, there is a simple choice here. You dont buy the upgrade. If you do not want to pay for extra work, that a real human puts in time to do, then you do not have to get it. Its been the same for the A-10C II, will be the same for Black Shark 3, etc. You dont have to buy them, but please dont suggest we should give everything away for free this is not sustainable. We already do give a lot for free within the core. Thanks. Not sure how your math works, but the Channel is not being updated. Normandy map is having some previously low or non-detailed areas added. If you own the original map and/or the Channel map you get a discount. DCS: Normandy 2 will be available as a complete map for $59.99 USD. If you have either DCS: Normandy 1944 or DCS: The Channel maps, you can purchase Normandy 2 for $14.99 USD. If you own both, you can purchase DCS: Normandy 2 for only $9.99 USD.7 points

Wow, reading the Normandy 2 announcement was a rolelrcoaster of emotions. First i was mildly dissapointed, because i thought the update was free, but then reading about the size of the project, a price tag seemed fair again. Then i noticed that both legacy normandy and the channel map will be kinda obsolete with the new map, but seeing the relatively fair upgrade path it seemed ok again. Then there is the aspect of community fragmentation with legacy map vs old, but the new map tech seems to solve that as well. So all in all, good news i think. It however surely begs the question what drove the decision to do the channel map in the first place. I think ED must get better at plannign those things through and delivering on them! That said, i'm looking forward to the new Normandy. Ps: Since the map would allow for many historic scenarios, it would be good to have the option to disable (or hide) the allied landing grounds in France. They are very visible and will always remind the player that the map's date is post invasion.6 points

This is What I like about ED in regards to taking care of its customers I own Both maps and am Happy to see I will get such a Awesome Deal on this Normandy 2 map Looking forward to seeing all it from London to Paris in my P-515 points

If they improve the size and quality like this for just 10 bucks? I‘m all for it. Or do you want to play on 10 year old graphics forever? And nobody gets their legacy maps removed if I‘m not mistaken?5 points

I wonder if ED will now bundle the Channel map into DCS core, like Caucasus and Marianas, as a kind of free taster WWII map? Seems unlikely anyone will buy it once Normandy 2 is released for sale.4 points

I'm in STFUaTMM-mode for this module since YEARS! I WANT THAT DAMN 339, and I don't care about the price... well unless it costs like a real MB-339.4 points

Actually, after 8 hours of hard work I HAVE implemented a grading system. Now I just need to test it. A lot. Thanks for the idea! I’ll make a video about it later.4 points

I was being sarcastic, but here is an excellent guide "the ins and outs of dcs liveries" by Sid, that illustrates the complexities of dcs skinning, using just a single aircraft for examples, the Sabre … and yes, every dcs vehicle has its own nuances: https://1drv.ms/b/s!Ai6cuX3YQI26hcJtQA2EMSqc1nnKkA4 points

They have a complex damage model and optional invulnerability. They have complex weapons management with optional unlimited ammo. They have complex start-up procedures and optional auto-start. They model complex radios and have optional easy communications. It's called "accessibility" and it's a smart business move to grow the market for their products.4 points

Hey, you just gave me an idea, I think I’ll be able to implement a grading system into the campaign after all. Let me figure it out. Thanks!4 points
-
Hi @NineLine, now you got me a little confused. A square from London to Paris also covers the area of the channel map as well. And the promo pictures clearly show details from that area, too. So I figured, regardless of the name, the new map will cover both legacy areas. No?3 points

I hope in the future I can see Nevada 2.3 points

There is no info right now if the details from the Channel map will be added to Normandy 2.0, right now only ownership of the Channel benefits your discount price, not the content. When we have an answer on that we will share. As for Campaigns, our hope is they will be compatible with little to no work, poor Reflected works hard enough as it is.3 points

At first I was like: Who wants to pay for another Normandy map? Then I was like: Ugra: announces Normandy 2 ED's The Channel: Am I a joke to you? Then I got to the part explaining the pricing, coming to the conclusion that this new map ofc is based on the old one, but also somehow must include The Channel given that owning it reduces the price tag and simply asking the question: Why would they want to make that complete area that we do already have again from scratch? And with those owner's discounts, I'm absolutely all in for the upgrade! This will be a great addition. And the new tech that delivers stuff you don't own in lower quality seems to be the first step towards a grand scale world map, I can perfectly see the exact same thing happen with the Gulf, Syriam Caucasus and the upcoming Sinai as well as the already announced Afghanistan maps and probably an Iraq map as well. And, hopefully, one day... the Crimea, where it all started with Flanker to LOMAC+FC (for purely nostalgic reasons; I've been wanting to see the Crimea back since BS1).3 points

Putting in the work and applying new tech to perfect an aging, unfinished DCS asset, all at a fair price? Outstanding! This is the way. I hope this works out for ED and Ugra. Then maybe we can see this same method applied to other aging assets (NTTR, PG, some of the older planes that need some love).3 points

Adding a second name for missiless makes sense when it is common. In the case of Chinese missiles, as far as I know, the whole world uses Chinese export names, such as PL-12, for example.3 points

So, while obviously being able to control the ground units as things stand has.... limitations, I do believe it has potential. There are two main areas I think this could be improved: - Interface One thing I think could help is a different interface, where the person in CA has more information available to them. This interface would have four 'windows', which the player can move as shift around (anyone who's played Janes Fleet Command will see where this is going) When the "General" clicks on a tank for example, he/she will be able to see the tank in action, it's position on the map, as well as what its status. How much ammo it's got, how it's functioning, etc. The same would go for ships, and aircraft, including player-controlled aircraft. The interface would also have more tools available to help the "General" issue orders, and guide friendlies to where they're needed. An example of how it could look is provided by Janes Fleet Command, as mentioned earlier: - Damage Sections While certainly the hardest thing to add to DCS of the two, it would fix so many of the issues we have, especially when it comes to sinking warships, or killing tanks. In the real world, just because a bomb or missile hits a tank, doesn't mean it's actually killed. In the real world, the bomb could fail to detonate, and the plows through the engine deck wrecking the engine, leaving the tank immobilized. Sometimes an ATGM will hit the coms antenna, or in the case of most modern tanks, hit the ready ammo and the explosion is vented out of the blow-out panels... the tank is mission-killed, but not actually dead. The crew in that case would still be alive, and thus, able to fight on.... assuming they can hear anything. These sections can apply to ships as well, id certain parts of the ship are destroyed, it's out of the fight, but not actually sunk. If others are blown apart, it's going down. These are things that are already in place for the planes, having them for the ships and tanks wouldn't be a bad thing. Some other areas where I think CA could help: - Controlling AI aircraft/helicopters Now, I'm not saying we'd be able to have full fidelity cockpits, but someone in CA would basically get a simplified HUD (like you see in TacView), enabling the player to take over certain AI fighters during a mission (similar to what a Zues can do in ArmA), giving players in MP Campaigns a bit of a surprise when suddenly one of the Mig23s they're fighting isn't behaving like a normal AI Mig23.... (Keep in mind, such a position would only have the most basic of controls and functions, they would not be a replacement for existing modules) - Spawn Units from a template Assuming the mission designer has put them in, someone with CA playing on that side can spawn units, or groups of units as needed. Allowing them to only place down units to throw the other players for a loop. For example BlueFor has the objective of escorting a convoy down a highway. The "Red General" can then spawn in some insurgents along the convoy route, and give the escorts a proper ambush... no fancy coding required. This feature could also be given a limit in the mission editor, that way things don't go too nuts. What do you guys think? Could these basic things be a viable fix or update to CA? Or am I off my rocker?3 points

Work deserves pay, I don't see the problem. DCS has an amazing price model compared to other games that make you gamble, subscribe and drain your bank account, or create problems so they can sell solutions that aren't needed in the first place. I hope all of those exist eventually.2 points
-
Indeed. I recommend that in those cases you perhaps add phrases like "I believe", "my guess is", "perhaps", "maybe", or "I conjecture" rather than just asserting "X does Y because Z".2 points

He always "knows" what ED is thinking, what their business model is, their plans, everything. He is the omniscient mastermind behind DCS... at least he posts like he is.2 points

There they go using that word "imminent" again. In DCS-speak, that could mean anything from 2 weeks to 2 months.2 points
-
Interesting, so we get a merge of Channel Map into Normandy and also extension or Normandy. Not bad, that makes full sense to do. Pricing policy seems reasonable as well. Good.2 points

yeah big thx Ugra Media for what looks like a hudge Normandy upgrade. I love their maps.2 points

Is this modelled yet? I thought the F-14 was almost done as they’ve moved onto other jets… But I still can’t put out a fire in an engine and yes I’m pressing the little button behind the cut off.2 points

Does anyone know whether canopy reflections are planned for the Mirage F1? Right now there's just a sort of matte grey sheen when you look at it side-on, and I couldn't find anything mentioning whether that'll be the final implementation. Just looks a little out-of-place compared to how polished the rest of the cockpit is.2 points

Haha, I didn't mean to give you more work but happy to have contributed if it makes the end product better!2 points

I mean... we've all seen that XBox commercial where a disabled kid is able to beat a game with a controller built specifically for him. 99% of us will never become fighter pilots, and very few of us who play DCS do it full-time, and those that do are usually doing so for a good reason (like Cap), So the idea of having something in the game that makes it easier to drop in and fly is just as good a move as adding a popular fighter plane. The more people who can fly, the better EDs bottom line is. Does it have to be Ace Combat levels? No. But it can still be the study-level sim that it is, while at the same time acknowledging that there are people who simply do not have the hundreds of hours required to perform the most complex tasks, or, lack the proper hardware, or worse... lack the physical ability to do those tasks. I mean heck, how many dads play this game right now, and want to share the experience with their kids? I know I would if I had a kid.2 points
-
Sure, though I would have spent more time composing that message! seriously, your advice made it feel like less a game and more an experience. I finally learned to not just dive into the fray, but instead think more, look for good opportunities and then try to take advantage of them. Overall I finished with 7 aircraft kills, 2 ground vehicles and lived to the end. there was one surprise flak that nearly took me out ( exploded just in front of me, damaging the engine but not catastrophic luckily!) but I managed to limp back to and land at Lympne. That was stressful!2 points

I think irl that impact should damage (severely) the right track rendering the vehicle unable to move.2 points
