When we have looked at the data from 2.8 and made some fixes we will have a patch. As soon as we are ready I will update the patch status post as usual. Please remember open beta is a public test build, we use it to test in public to get wider feedback from you all, so expect disruption especially when we jump versions as we have to 2.8 The team continue to fix and tweak. note: please stay on topic here - this is for discussion of the patch notes. thank you12 points

Hello, ok, so initially it was meant to be just a compatibility update but I guess I went a few steps too far with it. There is still some work to be done here and there but the release of the new version should be just around the corner. This time I'm going to include optional sweetfx settings to make the scenery even more vivid. Cheers!9 points

I'm completely infuriated about the indexer lights going out if dimmed below a setting of 6. The Tomcat is total worthless now and nobody uses it any more in carrier ops. I wait already 2 years for a fixing. If you don't get it, I will take you on a server and show you that there are only Hornets around. Maybe I should demand money back or does early access mean that I have to suck it up and find a workaround??8 points

Imagine going to a barber shop and asking for a haircut. You pay in advance, sit in the chair, and your usual barber takes the haircut to 90% completion. Then he tells you that he has to leave because he got another job at a pub and his shift is about to start. He tells you to wait in the chair until he's finished his shift at the pub and then he'll come back to complete the haircut. Or actually, he's pretty swamped this week, so maybe he'll complete it next week. Or next month. He's not sure. Then when you politely ask the manager of the barber shop if maybe another barber could finish the cut, he sarcastically asks if you're the new owner of the shop now. We're paying customers, and the comment you replied to was being very polite and reasonable.7 points

why on earth are you guys against the module getting changes that make it more like the real thing? why even play simulator games if that's not what you're after? I personally like the new changes and hope the FC3 modules get a similar touch-up.6 points

Dear all, We have made some Viper HMCS changes to correct ACM BORE HMCS behavior: Set ACM BORE mode and enable HMCS. Use view LOS to slew the HMCS boresight cross over a target. Press and hold TMS forward and the ellipse will be visible on the HMCS and the radar will slave the ACM BORE pattern to that LOS if within gimbal. Target should be within 10 nm. Release TMS forward and the radar will automatically attempt to snag the target as an STT, and the ellipse will be removed. Kind regards, Eagle Dynamics6 points

Making improvements to the Sea King Crew - with many thanks to Urbi who redid a heap of skins for me to work from, new roughmet and new normal textures for everything, and updated a couple of the non UK skins as well, many thanks mate. I have done the UK skins myself with slight changes to his work to reflect current and not so current aircrew clothing and helmets. Issues - All four crew members are taken from the same texture files, so they all look the same. I decided to work on the basis that the crewman in the opening door was the most visible, so thats the skin I have used. The SH3H Helmet is a different pattern to the Westland model and takes its textures from different texture files, so I have done those as well for the 'Junglie' sea Kings. I will release these as an update, on here, when they are done.6 points

The fact simply remains that @fat creason is busy with his normal job, and until he has time to take up the matter again, we need to be patient, all of us together. We don't want to give this to someone else, because this is his baby. The margin is not so big to have any really severe impact, and I think we all owe it to him to simply sit tight, until he has some space to breathe again. Thank you for your kind understanding and tremendous patience.6 points

When cold starting the F16 could we have the chocks in as default? Might help in some situations where people have alignment issues where the jet has moved a small amount either by rearmament or a cracked open throttle rolling the jet forward.5 points

Greetings. ED you spent all this time with the weather and the 2.8 update, however Rain is still clipping and passing through covered aircraft shelters, and into Hangars. Looks great on the canopy, however should not have raining on the canopy effect when we are starting in the hangar. Not track needed. Aircraft on any map starting in any covered position with rain on. Thanks Shrike5 points

All of you have every right to ask us any question, that has always been like that and always will be. You know that, we always try to meet you on eye level. But I still would like to clarify something: the FM is not only 90% done. It is basically complete, with the performance being marginally off. That is off little enough for our F14 pilot SME to not consider it an issue, and actually far closer to the real deal than even an FAA-approved class-D simulator would require. That does not mean that we do not want to get it even closer in performance - we do, and always said so. But within your analogy you would remain sitting to quite literally split some hairs, or wanted some else fairly unnoticable points trimmed, on top of the hair cut that has been delivered to you. That is fine, and we will do it, but we do kindly ask for some patience in return.5 points

I’ll never understand the desire for heavily modernized old airframes in DCS. The Terminator is a poor man’s F-15E. Everything it can do the Eagle does better. So in that case, why not snag RAZBAM’s when it comes out? For oddball F-4 variants, I’d much rather see a Spey-engined UK Phantom.5 points

Following your reports on the presence of bugs on our MB-339 that were resolved by changelog, we contacted the ED to investigate the problem. Unfortunately it seems that the changes have not been incorporated by the new DCS World hotfix but we have been assured that they will be available with the next update of DCS World OB. We apologize for the inconvenience, we are working to close the reports as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience. Gents, chill out- this thread is supposed to be for constructive, scientific discussion- not discussing our development priorities or analogies. A performance tweak pass for the remaining discrepancies will be implemented, we will get to it soonest. There is no point in whether or not it will happen- as it simply will. There are more pressing concerns across our product stack that we are working on first as the scale of the Tomcat FM issues is relatively minor. This informs and drives our prioritization. Keep this thread to discussing said inconsistencies and FM discussion overall.4 points

See... this is why I honestly cannot get behind the idea of making a map based on a particular OPERATION (not even date or year). For us mission creators, a map should be as much of a "white canvas" as possible: a location with certain characteristics, that can me made into almost anything via the ME and the one creating the mission. But to say a map will be: - Of a particular area (which is obvious and expected) - On a particular year (which is less obvious but somewhat understandable, something needs to be "fixed" and non-modifiable) - On a particular month and SEASON (which now limits the ability to tell "different" stories: snow, gives a completely different feel to a map) - Made for a particular operation (in this case Neptune) Now you have a map is no longer versatile. It's like saying you are making a SEAD F-16 that can only have a fixed layout of ordinance, because that is what they used during the operation X over country Y. This limits the ability of mission makers to make versatile, interesting, dynamic missions. Even if this is a WWII centered map which allows for nothing other than THAT scenario, you cannot even do a "beginning of the war" mission or campaign. It is too limiting. That's my take on everything we are reading, even if the images look nice.4 points

We have an idea for allowing the "flight" part of the address to be set using either the ground crew coms menu or the kneeboard. But as mentioned previously it's not as easy as just allowing it to be set as allowing it would add other issues that also need to be solved. Due to that it's a bit further down the list.4 points

No, I read very clearly where the representative of the development team explained what is going on and you continued to insist on directing their development resources from an internet forum.4 points

Hey guys, Some time between June 2022 and present day, (probably during the Phoenix Overhaul on Sept 2), the AIM-54 became much more susceptible to notching targets. It used to maintain a course and give itself a chance to re-acquire a pitbull after getting notched. In the current open beta the missile starts a pull up maneuver after the first instance of getting notched almost as if to avoid the target. See below a video demonstrating a before and after: I reported this to HeatBlur but they say it's out of their hands. Can ED please take a look at this? This susceptibility to notching targets is the biggest factor involved in the AIM-54's currently poor PK%, more so than the nerfed adjusted kinematics implemented in the recent overhaul.3 points

The latest changes to the Viper's HMCS ACM acquisition function in today's OB patch are inconsistent with publicly available documentation on Viper helmet functionality (such as the MLU M3 handbook, for example): While the radar being commanded to slave to the helmet LOS and remaining silent as long as TMS Forward is held down is correct, the radar should explicitly remain slaved to the helmet LOS and continue to radiate until a target is acquired, a different mode is commanded or the LOS becomes invalid. The current behaviour in-game is that the radar will only attempt a HMCS acquisition at the moment TMS Forward is released, then revert to regular boresight acquisition immediately if a target is not acquired, which doesn't seem to make a lot of sense. The previous implementation of this feature seems to have been more in-line with what's described in the documentation.3 points

Thanks again for your test. It's a surprise update for us I will quickly fix it internally3 points

While I was home for lunch, I clicked the update. It downloaded a patch I assume. I hoped in FA-18/Caucuses ready on the ramp mission real quick to check and, the over-lap/superimpose aircraft shadow bug had been fixed. So I re-enabled shadows low/default and performance was 'better', just still not 2.7 GPU frametimes... but better than it was last few days with same shadow settings.3 points

They have to fix - fine-tune the flight model as well. F-1 was a very pilot friendly aircraft. You could do whatever you wish and it was very forgiving. Something that is very annoying is the way it behaves with asymmetric loads. The way it flies with one sidewinder is completely unrealistic. In real life, flying with one sidewinder was almost like flying without any load.3 points
-
FLAT shadows were never superimposed over aircraft, that was an issue when objects shadows were set to OFF. Please re-read the first post. In the current DCS version both options look the same up close, but when set to FLAT, the shadows disappear at closer distance. So it's not just a mismatch in names in the menu, something is broken in the implementation.3 points

No, you are not able both to read and understand. I wrote that now are passed 2 years and the F14 is still underperforming and that i think it's time to fix it without waiting other years, go back to school, please.3 points

It's a complicated world, my friend. And how we spend money is just as complicated. Some can buy everything they want. Some can only buy some of what they want. Some, sadly, can buy none of what they want, or even need for that matter. And if someone has a PC but can't necessarily afford to fill it with the games they wish to, it's not something to begrudge them for. Also, we don't know how much work some of our fellow flyers had to do to be able to afford a decent gaming rig. I don't doubt for a moment that some/many did a job that involves good old fashioned physical labour and saved up to buy their rig or maybe bought a few pieces at a time. I did. Being frugal is not being cheap. Taking note of pricing in a free market is not out of place. And facing the truth of limited funds and wondering how to spend them is not unreasonable.3 points

I can´t stop laughing after reading this thread. Don´t take this PC game too seriously guys. You ain´t no real pilots, you´re just gamers having fun operating good looking pixels on your monitor screen So enjoy the game we all love with everything it brings and stay passionate about flying. DCS is a great game and a great simulator even with zombies onboard for few days with extra fun3 points

Hi Limaro, I have not tested 2.8 performance yet, but another tester who did told me you were right aout the 13-15% decrease in performance in 2.8 initial release. I know we currently have issues with shadows and that might be playing a role. I'm pretty busy reporting fresh bugs at the moment, but I'll try to check next week and will report (unless the performance issue is fixed in between).3 points

+1. @MAESTR0Not to say that the work done on Normandy 2 doesn't look great (because dang it does look great), but a lot of these historical layout issues might have been caught at an earlier stage in development if we were shown progress or given the news on Normandy 2 a lot earlier. To make such drastic changes or additions to so many airfields now when they seem almost complete in their incorrect stage, it hurts.3 points

More than one year has been passed since the last update and the FM is still underperforming in acceleration, about 2 years have been passed since the FM update that heavily tanked the F14B and about 3 months has been passed, since HB told us they will work on FM. So please, please and again please don't tell me to be patient, a huge amount of time has been passed I think now it's time to tell us something of concrete, sorry but it's no more time to be patient and still wait other years Thank you3 points

Thanks for your interests and concerns for ls6-100. So far, what we know and can confirm is the test of ls6-500 on J-8II, while ls6-250 is a smaller ver of ls6-500. But for ls6-100, it's a laser jdam, and it's mainly for fun at this moment, and still half baked. For more detail, I will check SME later. Due to the very limited time between Oct update and submit deadline for Nov update, I may not have time to fix bugs/improve ls6-100 related for Nov update3 points

Good news guys, we were finally, finally able to reproduce it in the debugger. Now it means digging for it and fixing it, but at last some progress. For now it looks like it is hidden in some dll, but we cannot fully say yet, it does not point to one clear thing just as of yet. However, we're on its tail.3 points
