Because they met the standards required to model the aircraft. Its as simple as that.15 points

Bloody hell move on folks... This isn't nearly as big a deal as some of you make it to be. Nor is it unprecedented. If anything this thing will be more of a real thing than what we have in Black shark 3... And even Black shark 2 is essentially a prototype bird. So is Su-25T. Is it ideal, is it the variant I would have liked? No and no. Is it nearly as bad as some of you seem to think? Hell no it's not. Besides, ED shouldn't have allowed it? Sorry but that's just preposterous. This isn't like RAH-66 where most systems probably weren't even completed. This also isn't like F-35 or Su-30 etc where things are completed IRL, but we ain't getting know what they are and how they work. Personally I'd prefer a Q-5 or J-7 over this by far, but this is cool/different/unique enough. And why ED approved it? Well as Nine line said: because it clearly matches ED's now stricter than some years ago criteria for licensing a 3rd party dev for a module. Also there were discussion about uboats being a source or not, AFAIK he is one of the devs in Deka, not just a moderator, so there's that. This doesn't mean we're getting X-Wing or Tie Fighter next. This doesn't even mean next modules will be F-16XL or Ye-8.7 points

You are still required to provide enough information to model the aircraft to the degree that DCS demands, they are able to do this here. Thanks.6 points

The F-4E was exclusively an Air Force variant and as such featured dual controls. So @Gianky, to answer your question, yes you can fly from the backseat. On the subject of refueling, we rolled out the hydraulic cart again today to leak check the utility system, and we cycled the air refuel door a couple times. For those that have never seen it, here is what it looks like:6 points

Did the ETC 504 rack and external fuel tank today. Not sure about colors tho atm. The ETC 504 rack was supposedly painted primarily in RLM 76 light blue, but theres instances or grey violet RLM75, or even RLM 66 interior grey, which i chose. Your call.5 points

I clearly remember an enthusiastic post from Deka about this plane, it's enormous fin and American radar, from a few years ago. That means they are just sticking with what they have been intending to do all that time. Can we assume they do so because they know what they are doing? Honestly, I don't remember the reactions when the JF was announced but even now plenty AF people don't care because it's obscure, or too Chinese. And the module is great (by the way, the first aircraft in dcs I landed). So, good luck and keep up the great work, I'd surely fly this bird at some point... And yes, I was hoping fot the Q-5.5 points

I count many times people said it doesn't matter if Mudhen gets released with inaccurate avionics: "It doesn't matter as long as the capabilities are correct. " HB is honest that the EF2000 is going to be a mashup of the docs they can get on Trenche 1 and 2. J-8 gets the different treatment because it's not the pop star. For me, it's no different than the previous 2: 1. It's impossible to get documents to accuately depict the service version 2. Devs tries their best with current documents to make a capability-matching, full-fidelity variant. The J-8PP isn't even a made up variant As long as Deka is transparent enough I don't see a problem. I bet making a prototype J-8 isn't their first choice either. As I've said, if it's Razbam, they would just announce it as J-8II, and maybe somewhere in discord say that it's the Peace Pearl.5 points
-
The official Deka source would be the fact that they picked the J-8PP and not the J-8F or some other variant. From what I understand, they are based in China and want to bring Chinese aircraft into DCS. It really takes no speculation to determine that they would have preferred to do one of the more prolific variants, but settled for one that would not result in legal troubles. AFAIK besides what Nineline and Uboats (although I assume you think he doesn't matter since he has the title of moderator), no word beyond the newsletter has been released. That being said, it doesn't take a statement from Deka to realize that the Chinese government is not a fan of allowing their technological information to be used by others and so a variant with Chinese avionics is out of the question unless they change their policies.5 points

Adjusted the roughness. Added a camo variation for jg2. And had a first shot at the normal map. I noticed that i totally forgot about plyons and fueltank..... gotta work on those..5 points

Who exactly is relevant? Nineline and Deka have both said that this is the only J-8 they can legally get the information required to complete the module. It's easy enough to make an informed statement about the availabilty, or in this case lack, of information related to various aircraft from both Russia and China. If it wasn't a problem to get info on Eastern aircraft, we would already have a FF MiG-29 and Su-27 since there is great demand for these aircraft. ED planned to make the earliest MiG-29 variant but that fell through due to lack of cooperation from the Russian government, probably among other things. Deka, I believe has wanted to do an Su-30, but lack of information has stalled that project as well.5 points

Dear pilots and friends. The OnReTech team is in the final stages of the second phase of the Sinai map project. We took the time to unique models and small details on the surface. Improved green colors for field and surface textures. Fixed some bugs and comments. Modeled 11 new airfields. We continue to work on the second phase and are engaged in setting up and testing the project.5 points

Hi ED, When using F10 view option Fog of War, the map shows enemy ground units, missiles, rockets, etc. in addition to enemy air units. In an PvP MP scenarios in particular this can feel quite gamey in numerous ways: - Drive ground unit fast through town, marking on map where units were spotted before they have any chance of engaging and clean up - Use SU25-T Fantasmagoria (in particular) to show precise locations of many EN SAM systems on F10 and follow up with PP JDAMs without risk - knowing when a specific type of missile is inbound, near-real time position updates allowing precise calls for calls for flare / chaff to be made - Providing exact clock-position in dogfights with near perfect SA It would be great to have two features to help mitigate this behavior 1) An additional Fog of War setting that would only show air units and no missiles, etc. 2) If there could be a configurable F10 refresh interval to further remove the near-realtime perfect picture. Thanks, Martin4 points

I have a source, just not one you accept. Based on the wording of @uboats answers, I would say he is the closest thing to an official source from Deka than nothing. He has repeatedly used "we" in his statements concerning development and has posted answers to pretty much every post concerning it. That's good enough for me, even if it isn't for you.4 points

And I can’t understand why it bothers you so much … if you don’t want the module just don’t purchase it, but bickering about it is so pointless …4 points

Because it is the only way you will get any Chinese aircraft. Unless you would like to go talk to the Chinese government to try change their current information policies.4 points

Sigh... you know, I can write a pretty long post quoting and replying to multiple people from both sides but, what's the point? I'll just say that, DCS community has such a unique ability in that, they can make me vehemently disagree with BOTH sides of a heated debate on something. I've already stated that I'm somewhat disappointed, but also just mildly excited in an earlier post in this thread, so, there, I have some thought I share with both detractors and celebrators. But both sides' "black and white" look at many things is just frankly tiresome. I'll only make a few points: - Yes, expressing negative thoughts, grinding as it may be, is often at least as important as doing the same with positive thought. If anything, I'll readily say that it contributes a lot to the health of whatever is receiving that feedback. Random knee-jerk white-knighting however, doesn't. Only thing the latter serves is to rile up people into being even less reasonable. - This variant, from what I can find, was in fact has a couple prototype airframes built, and they were test flown in US. Yes, it was never operational. Yes, this is less than ideal. But every piece of avionic from either China or USA that was put on it are pretty well known things by now, and there is no reason to assume a prototype that was built and tested wasn't documented as the process went. If that is the case, I'll just go ahead and say that if anything this is going to be something grounded in reality more than what we have in Blackshark 3, which I have some reservations about as much as I like it. - Since Deka will apparently give us an AI J-8F, which is a completely domestic and in service variant of the bird, but give us an odd-ball prototype that was never in service and has US avionics, it appaers like this is probably the only one they can make at a DCS standard with info legally available to them. IT WOULD BE GOOD IF THEY COULD CLEARLY COMMUNICATE THIS OF COURSE. But hey ho... Otherwise we'll have to stick with getting samey aircraft from same few countries. Deka even said early on that they consider making a western jet as their second module years ago after the first release of JF-17, and we as a community said "please no". This is a compromise, one most of us from either side of blue/red aircraft lovers will have issues with, sure. But seems like one that was necessary to get us a different red(ish...) bird. - I for one, don't care too much about this country or that country. I like planes, for the most part. F-16, I've never liked, is the main fighter of my country forever, and I like some aircraft and liveries operated by the countries/regimes I don't care for. I want as many cool, obscure, interesting aircraft from as many places as possible. And I do like them red birds. Could be that "grass is greener on the other side" syndrome (even though that isn't quite how I feel), or because of the fact that we just rarely had them simulated throughout decades, and we still don't have many of them made. So if we can a cool obscure red bird that was actually made and documented as a prototype, as much as I'd prefer a domestic and full production variant, I'll still say YES. "Nobody asked for this", yeah, let's assume nobody did... so what? - I guess we (well mostly) all agree that we want aircraft DCS to be as realistic as possible, and we don't generally want made up, guesstimated, ufo things if at all possible. I am that way at least. Well, let's make it perfectly clear here: probably NONE of the existing modules fully fit that criteria. Including many, many of the blue birds. Mirage 2000 is one of the best modules now, after like 8ish years since its initial release... when they got a new programmer who was basically a Mirage 2000 nerd, and when they also got cooperation from AdA. Until that, it had a lot in it that was just plain and pure guesstimated, even its then devs admitted to it about a few things like symbology etc. I personally still don't have much faith in its flight model, but that's just me, and apart from that it is legitimately one of the best modules now. Yet it has always been one of the most popular modules before too... MiG-21Bis, used to be one of my favorites, was developed by a person who was actively flying that very type in Serbian air force at the time too. Yet, miraculosuly, it still has many systems that are just plain wrong, and throughout its existence in DCS, it went through like 6-8ish flight models with wildly different characteristics at the edges of envelope, where it's interesting to fly... and that's a bird as unclassified as it gets. What I'm getting is... a well documented prototype with mostly obsolete foreign tech may not be nearly as far off documentation and realism wise from our favorite existing modules... not nearly as much as many of you seem to think...4 points

These synthetic tones are great. (and more importantly, true to the system) They intentionally leave a lot of empty audio so that the PRF audio can come through when handoff is selected. Once Handoff/PRF audio comes, it'll all kinda make sense. For instance, the PRF of a lock-on will be constant. Also, I'll be releasing my own PRF library mod to replace whatever ED comes up with.3 points

RAH-66 fired weapons in tests and AFAIK was mostly done. I actually wouldn't mind the Commanche, mostly because I'm really fond of the old Commanche 4 game (not much of a sim, that one, but really fun either way). Both prototypes still exist and are in a museum, although there's probably some classified tech onboard. The J-8PP is in the unique position of being a canceled project made for a foreign customer in first place, so the US couldn't really classify its documentation the way they do damn near everything else, because it would be shared with a non-NATO country anyway. This is the only decision, according to them. Chinese avionics were vetoed by the Chinese government.3 points

The important thing is to continue supporting and improving the map after launch. Add landmarks, tourist attractions, places with a helipad, etc. This will make it become a big map. It is impressive how the map of Syria has tourist spots and helipads. I'm looking forward to seeing this on the Sinai map. I intend to give a vote of confidence and buy in the pre-sale.3 points

Hi. Civil Aircraft Mod's B737 pax (3d model is from -700 variant, but its default liveries packed are based on -800 variant) isn't made its side windows with polygon holes or transparent glasses. They are only painted by diffuse color / normal map / roughmet color. We can draw its liveries as freighter variants painting over windows and adding a big cargo door. Amazon Prime Air / TNT / UPS liveries , we've already had. So, no need to ask it to Cowboy.3 points

When I saw this in game I didn't believe my eyes. Target = Mirage 2000C at ~4000ft altitude, speed ~0.4M, distance between 3000-4000ft, slowly going up. AIM-120C fired and guided to target by its own radar, however missed within 48ft distance from target, at 4800ft altitude and speed 1.66M This was super close, and there is a parallel thread debating whether AIM-120 fuze proximity should be 50ft or less (Aim-120 proximity fuze too low) however what is amazing here is the miss itself. The target wasn't maneuvering with high angular velocities and there was no high aspect ratio - the shot was more or less from behind, with target slowly rolling at low speed. There is yet another parallel thread about defeating AIM-120 by barrel roll at high altitude (AIM-120 can still be defeated by barrel rolls at high altitudes) however the geometry is quite different there. Anyway this was something quite unexpected and hopefully allmighty ED team will a look at this AIM-120C-miss.trk2 points

J-8PP, fully functional, built and well documented aircraft is not okay??? But Razbam's frankenstein F-15E and HB Eurofighter trench 1.5 is fine??? Deka chose to be honest with their documentation and research. If they do it in Razbam's fashion they would just say it's a J-8II and answer somewhere in discord that it's the PP. And they are precisely modeling that one aircraft parking in Beijing Aviation Museum, unlike Razbam, who sews together avionics from 10 different variants and call it a FF module. If you don't like an aircraft it's ok, just don't buy it.2 points

Hi, fighters We responded to numerous requests from DCS Normandy1944 users and found additional features and resources to ensure that, in addition to summer, seasons of autumn and spring are also available to users on the DCS Normandy 2. And since on the Normandy 2 the textures of fields and trees are made separately for England and separately for France, the user will see the difference between autumn in England and autumn in France. There will also be differences in spring on these different parts of the map. England spring England autumn France spring France autumn2 points
