You will always find the latest version of all my assets here: http://www.currenthill.com Hey guys! Since the numbers of assets I've created is starting to grow considerably, I've decided to reorganize everything for your sake and mine. This will be the thread where I post information about releases of new and current assets. And I'd be happy to get your feedback on them as we've done so far. I appreciate you mentioning any issues you have, or ideas or new assets to create. To avoid confusion I will be decommissioning all my other threads. All the assets are available in one place with information about version, download link, size, stats and changelog with just a click.12 points

Trust. Trust in their ability to pull this off, that they know what they are doing. Trust that the next time they communicate something they can be dependent on. I don't want to over-dramatize this, as this is indeed an entertainment title (although, if you want to feel the wrath of disappointed, ask some US fans of Taylor Swift's how they felt betrayed over a silly entertainment thing like purchasing concert tickets. People can get quite agitated over nothing, and this is just a mild breeze compared to that brouhaha). Professionally, I also tend to feel bad when I see what feels like shoddy workmanship in a field I'm at home at, but this is just coincidence here. I don't feel robbed, cheated nor betrayed. Just a bit disappointed. Like when a friend who said they would come over doesn't - and not for the first time. It happens, and you can't help but feel a bit bad, maybe even slightly disrespected. Nothing big. You still talk to them, and all is fine. And you'd be a liiiitle bit more hesitant the next time they called to ask if they can come over...8 points

I agree. This is straight up my professional wheelhouse, and my 'spidey sense' is tingling. In this business, you can always move a publicly announced deadline - once. And if you do, you move it in a way that you can keep it. Come hell or high water, you keep that deadline. Should the impossible happen, and you blow it twice in the public eye, you better be prepared to own up and give some damn good reasons, even if they are painful: you are losing credibility fast, and the only way to stop that is with some good old confidence-inspiring transparency. "Reasons beyond anyone's control" does not cut it; RB are quickly becoming the butt of jokes. Worse: postponing by two days is a big Red Flag for anyone in the business: Missing a deadline by 48 hours on something this visible and after a multi-month (in this case even years) crunch simply doesn't happen: the delay is too small to matter. You either could have made the deadline (in which case postponing is a rookie mistake) or you won't make the new deadline either because too much is awry. I would have expected better from RB - this isn't their first rodeo, and inability to learn from past mistakes is a bad trend. I'm giving RB the benefit of doubt here, and hope that this unforced error is merely attributed to a junior project manager up over their ears. RB are needlessly inflicting pain on themselves and are burning goodwill fast; let's hope only temporarily, and that they kick that habit quickly. Well, two more days of wine for me.8 points

If you can manage to bungle a pre order release date this badly then I can only imagine the future string of broken promises on features and performance in store for this module. It's either that or you just enjoy trolling people like some edgelord in a pre Y2K chatroom. Either way, I went from a day one buy to let's see how this actually goes. Congratulations though, I didn't think there was any way to possibly talk me out of getting this module until just now.8 points

Glad to see the interest Before the release, I'd like to make a couple more variations of the middle floor so it doesn't look too repetitive, especially once destroyed. There also doesn't seem to have any consistency with where the units spawns once placed on top of the building. Sometimes they spawn on the very top floor, sometimes on the ground floor and sometimes somewhere in between. It seems random which is a bit annoying, needs further testing. i.e. 3 story building, they all spawn on the top floor But here they spawn somewhere in the middle8 points

Well, poor planning and/or poor project management are likely to blame, from my little experience. Generating anticipation by giving an ETA, fine, but failure to meet the date, of course, generates backslash.7 points

If they are delaying (twice) the pre-order, I can't imagine how it will be with the release proper. Uff7 points

This is not about legality. We do not have classified documentation and wouldn’t look for that either. Do we have documentation not available on the net? Yeah, ofc we do, that doesn’t mean we aren’t allowed to have them. We also have information collated through extensive dialogue with SMEs. The simple fact is that when you have put extensive effort and resources into acquiring said information it doesn’t make sense to just give them away. And even so we kinda do in a way as we put the relevant information into the module and the module documentation.6 points

Not all documentation acquired for module development is, in fact, covered under the lack of government copyright law for materials produced on its behalf. Systems training and company engineering and troubleshooting texts authored in-house retain copyright protection and are accessed accordingly, quite often at substantial cost, or donation (for example, they be provided by a museum). Contrary to popular opinion, "freedom of information" isn't. Contest a mandatory declassification review finding- that's the point where lawyers, billable hours, and government costs kick in. But wait- this is for *commercial* purposes: billable research hours and per-page costs start government side from the initial request. After all the expense, all the time, and all the back and forth between controlling offices and final service branch chief office oversight prior to signoff, you're left with materials that are very much in the realm of proprietary- because that research cost is an investment; one that needs recovered at a threshold well above e-peen wagging in forum debates. Somebody else wants that material, they themselves can go fetch, as not every document hits the servive reading rooms. So what it all boils down to is simple: when the system works like it should, to the recollection of the people who flew the machine and operated the radar, as well as the people who tested and maintained the equipment- when the people who helped build the model explicitly state a number from documentation, it's the number. At this point, with the amount of heat they've willingly accepted for supposedly downgrading weapons and systems to more closely approximate what they can prove to have been the functionality, a wide gate is the least of your concerns to debate regarding how well they understand what has been presented. And if you're still unable go accept that an early 1960s derived system built with a specific operating area in mind, constructed with the best (but albeit era-limited storage and back end techniques), and with processing far more dependent on the operator skill and knowledge of the EW environment than what it had built in under the hood, that's a "you" issue regards to understanding, not anybody else.6 points

This is why you shouldn't build hype by making announcements of preorders. There is really no point.6 points

Perhaps. The last project I led was delivering a publicly announced new on-line financial service for some seven-figure customers. We delivered last November, on time. No apology would have been accepted if we failed the deadline - especially if our apology merely was that "doing this is hard". That's why I have my job: managing complexity is what we do. I know how I do my job, and so do many others; you need not to make excuses for them. As Steven Jobs once quipped: "Real Artists Ship". The issue at hand isn't that what ED or RB do is difficult or complex. It is, and nobody denies that. We bemoan the public-facing spectacle of mangling the project management side. I believe RB could have done better.6 points

Geez theres a lot of whining in here. This is only a pre-release for goodness sake. There was obviously reasons behind the delay, and these things happen. At the end of the day, you'll probably end up with a more refined product and experience. Cut them some slack. For all we know it's a freaking family emergency, and a lot of commenters are here throwing your toys out the crib. Thank you for all you do @RAZBAM, @BIGNEWY and the rest of the ED team.5 points

No reason to get all winded up about a small delay like this it's only the pre-order, the more important date is the Early Access Release... If throw my money yeasterday or tomorrow won't change much, the day it get my hands on the Eagle is much more important5 points

Interesting approach. I don't think you understand why this topic was brought up. It's not about what's lost. You shallower topic and you give simple arguments, obvious. None of us lost anything, but there is such a thing as "good PR" and "promise". imagine that you and your child go to a free match that someone cancels, twice or more. What emotions does it evoke in you? Do you know the word "be let down"? It's just about that. Of course, we all keep our fingers crossed for the RB and the release of the model and we wish everyone the best, because it's our hobby (importnat part our life) and love for aviation, the only thing we expect is clear communication and keeping our word and deadlines in both side. Thats all to be clear. Ok, I'll stop for Today because the topic is getting long. We are waiting for the news on Friday!5 points

There is a scene in Aristophanes play, "Lysistrata", that comes to mind in all this. The guy hasn't schaloomphed his wife in ages, and every time he's about to seal the deal and lose the toga, she needs one more thing. "I need to put on some perfume first. I'll be back." "No, you really don't need it!" "I want to go get that nice soft pillow first!. I'll be back." "We don't need the pillow!" "I'd like to find my special necklace first. I'll be back." "You look great already!" This goes on and on and by the time she gets everything, it's too late for the schaloomphing. Razbam: The Greek comedy of pre-orders.5 points

Version 1.2.3 Feature Update: "ASW" SMOKE ON THE WATER! ASW (Sub Hunters) "You know", my fried mused, idly swirling wine in his glass, "how come we never go sub hunting?". Since he doesn't create missions - just enthusiastically flies them - there is no way he knows that building an ASW mission in DCS is currently impossible unless you resort to scripting. I was immediately interested. So, over the rest of the evening we sketched out how this could work. Long story short, that is how "Troubles Deep" came into being, and the new ASW modules that now have made it to DML. Along the way, many modules received minor tweaks, and some bug fixes. ASW is a drop-in, ready-to-play addition that brings ASW capability to your missions, similar to how 'heloTroops' brings troop transport and 'csarManager' brings CSAR to missions. All that remains for you is to place units, a trigger zone or two to configure the various aspects - and hunt those subs before they sink your ships. Once you've looked over the new ASW chapter in DML's "shock block" (manual) and the accompanying demo "Davy Jones' Roker", take a look at how embarrassingly simple design-wise "Troubles" actually is: in addition to ASW, it adds a cloner, a pulser, a valet and some config zones. That's pretty much it. That being said, even though simple, it's loads of fun - especially when played with a friend. Also, I'm seeing that DML adoption is picking up, and I'm grateful that people are graciously returning the favor by reporting bugs and recommend tweaks or new modules. Accordingly, this release not only sports a big new functional feature, but is also filled to the brim with small improvements and fixes. All Changes Manual Main - New chapter "ASW" - New Chapter Demo "Davy Jones' Rocker" - Various updates to modules Quick Ref - ASW (new) Demos - new Davy Jones' Rocker (ASW) - helo Trooper (update) - CSAR of Georgia (update) - Owned Zones ME Integration (update) Audio - beacon beep-beep (new) - submarine ping (new) Modules - asw 1.0.0 - initial version - aswGUI 1.0.0 - initial version - aswSubs 1.0.0 - initial version - aswZones 1.0.0 - initial version - cfxCommander 1.1.3 - improved guards for missing units - cfxGroundToops 1.7.7 - improved integration with heloTroops - fixed 'wait' incompatibility for zone attackers - heloTroops 2.4.0 - support for 'wait' in zone attack orders - removed cfxPlayer dependency - added support for groupTracker - no longer applies only to helicopters - supports wildcard types - ownedZones 1.2.4 - new pause? input - new activate? - spawnZones 1.7.4 - 'wait' fix for orders to attack zone - cfxZones - new getLinkedUnit() - new createRandomPointOnZoneBoundry() - getPositiveRangeFromZoneProperty now also supports optional upper boundary - changer 1.0.5 - small bug fix for verbosity - civAir 1.5.2 - small bug fix for verbosity - cloneZone 1.7.2 - new attribute onPerimeter - csarManager 2.2.1 - troopCarrier now supports wildcard types - dcsCommon 2.8.2 - removed long-standing issue with string.find() - new isTroopCarrier() - support for wildcards in troop carrier - better guards for getUnitAlt() - new newPointAtDegreesRange() - new isTroopCarrierType () - stringStartsWith supports case insensitive match - isTroopCarrier supports "any" and "all" - better guards for getEnemyCoalitionFor() - fix for nasty bug in smallRandom when accidentally used with negative argument - new wildArrayContainsString() - groupTracker 1.2.2 - new 'limbo' system to track 'virtual' units - messenger 2.2.1 - messenger can automatically reference linked units - fixed a potential bug when verbose - persistence 1.0.5 - fixed a potential verbosity bug - pulseFlag 1.3.2 - removed a bug when pausing a pulser that has run out - valet 1.0.2 - typos corrected - now also scans 'birth' events Enjoy, -ch5 points

Hope my post did not create any stir. I don't have any insider information, just from my little software development experience and being a customer of other products, a little observation what might have happened and what kind of impact it would have on the customers, when comparing to other similar announcements -- lately, South Atlantic Map, MB-339A and the Mirage F1. It is not about how I *feel*, again, it is about how things normally happen. For project in general, whether it is an architectural, software, medical, does not matter. The thing, when one is facing the consumer directly, expectation management is the key. And it is not too fair to say that if the pre-order gets delayed and the release will be too, for there is not real date of release. As I have mentioned above, I don't mind 2 more days or 2 more weeks, my £££ are ready, just come and grab them if RB dares.4 points
-
Absolutely not. What does the concept of honesty and partnership approach mean? If you give a specific date and then move it forward, do you think it's all about the money? It is not surprising that people are disappointed and it has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that there are those who want to get rid of their money as you wrote. It's all about the word "promise" and probably postponing the release. Well, unless it actually takes place on 1/03/23 (we still dont know nothing about the release). The point is also that on the day of pre order there will be a release date when the model will be start to available in EA (I assume so), so this is also a postponement of this date when we know more. As I wrote, Razbam is working on DCS F-15E from 2012, 11 years, so 2 days more (or more) its not a problem but the problem is postponements. Better to say Pre order starts 17.02.2023 and release will be at the 1th of May, than promises and next continuous shifting. Nobody likes that, especially if something is highly anticipated by many. It is worth adding that we are not talking about a release, but only a pre-order announcement. So news + purchase option on the website. But for the developer it means - ED tests/beta test, approvals, final touches, etc. So there's probably a reason why they don't know yet when the model might be released and how long it will all take (I suppose). I think that's the point here. Personally, I would just like to know how long I should wait for the release of the model (if it is to be 2 weeks, a month, or 5 - let it be, but let it be given and respected simply), and not watch screenshots and videos because it just annoys me that I can't fly it yet .4 points
-
How some people can become so worked up about a postponed PRE-ORDER date is beyond me. Even worse are those who place all kinds of judgements on Razbam without having any clue obviously. And why do the most aggressive attacks always come from people who have barely double digit posts? When complaints make up more than 30% of your overall posts one should reconsider the priorities imho.4 points
-
That's pretty much the point, isn't it? We always hope that companies learn, and do not repeat past mistakes. If this is an F-16 caliber mistake, two days will not correct that, so I'm hopeful that this is just an unfortunate, badly misfiring judgement call. We'll see in two days, and I'm still rooting for RB (after all, I own all their other modules).4 points
-
Folks appreciate you are disappointed about the date shifting of the pre-order, but please try to understand they would not have delayed unless they absolutely needed to. Please keep the feedback civil and thank you for being patient.4 points
-
Unfortunately, this is a bit incomprehensible, because the pre-order was announced a quite long time ago (January), so both Razbam and ED knew for a long time that, for example, on 3.02 they should announce something, then on 15.02, now today we know about 17th (and we talk only about ... news/info+pre rder option on the website). That would mean someone didn't do their homework on time. However, the time of release is puzzling, in that case, since they are postponing the pre order, we will probably not see Strike Eagle soon. But what are these two days compared to 11 years, because let me remind you that the mentions that Razbam is already making the F-15E for DCS .... come from September 2012.4 points

How about 'Layers' that be be Locked/Unlock/Hidden similar to graphic image editors (Photoshop) so I can build a part of the story (Ex: Carrier Attack Grp) then locked it to avoid inadvertent editing mistake while building another part of the story. I see throughout the various suggestions the request for Undo/Redo or Step Back/Step Forward; it's very frustrating when you make a simple mistake but it totally screws up hours of work. 'Layering' would significantly reduce these mistakes and also make it cleaner to work with by 'Hiding' layers so that can't receive Focus.4 points

It’s ridiculous! It’s the first time I heard that the pre-order can be postponed twice! No matter how it is explained, this makes people highly doubtful about when it will be officially released In addition, the RAZBAM seems to be addicted to postpone, don't doubt that there may be a third postpone We don't want RAZBAM using repeated delays of pre-orders as a hunger marketing ploy3 points
