The Aerges Team is happy to announce that the Mirage F1 BE (two seater) is now entering the final testing phase before public release. This version will be ideal for training purposes; it will provide the opportunity to fly with friends in multiplayer, having both cockpits fully synchronized in multicrew. As new features, it will include a sight repeater in the rear cockpit, unique in DCS. It can also be equipped with ventral and underwing cannon pods, turning it into a very powerful supersonic gun platform. We are also very excited to present to the DCS world our upcoming module: The F-104. This airplane requires little introduction: It is an American 1950’s interceptor that took part in several conflicts including the Vietnam war, and it held speed and altitude world records in its time. Our target is to put to good use the knowledge acquired in the development of the C-101 and the Mirage F1 modules to create the most accurate simulation of the F-104 ever made, with the same passion that we’ve always tried to dedicate to our work.16 points

Hi guys! The BE has actually required a significant coding effort, a different type of effort than the M requires but still. Even planning for a two seater in advance, some amount of refactoring is required and some other things are just not possible to have 'automatically' coded for the rear cockpit. In any case, we're very close to give you more news about it.9 points

I don't get why most users only want the latest version of any old aircraft, looks like they don't want anything without an MFD or digital HUD on it. I prefer to have the most used variant, the one with most liveries and operators, as it allows for a wider variety of missions. On the F-104, for me that variant is the G.8 points

Apart from the F-104 announcement, the newsletter contains screenshots from the BE, including a look at the sight repeater.7 points

Finally we have liveries for the first two F-15EXs delivered to USAF! I'm hoping to release V1.7 by the end of the month, so stay tuned for that! Please note that due to the increased detail of the F-15E liveries, the file size of V1.7 will be substantially larger than any mod I have ever released before. Your mileage may vary with some of the weapons, particularly AIM-120D and AIM-260, apparently DCS doesn't like super long range missiles sometimes. AIM-260 carriage may be a bit limited for V1.7, I'll have to see what I can do about that. But progress is being made! Edit: The F-15EX has now been separated from the old VSN F-15E mod on which it was based. This means that ingame it now shows up as F15EX instead of VSN_F15E_AA, and it no longer includes loadouts from the VSN F-15E that refused to go away before, even after I deleted them from the mod. I'm not sure what was up with those AIM-7s and AIM-120Bs showing up still, but it's fixed now! Maximum AIM-260 carriage is currently 8 missiles, due to issues with the double rail launchers that I haven't been able to solve yet.7 points

Great news: I hope they will do the G version used by spain, and hopefully include a two seater variant. Here is a very detailed video documentary on the F-104 ... it is in german language but subtitles can be enabled and autotranslated:6 points

null The seat looks like a Martin-Baker seat, which would narrow it down to not being an A, but a later G (SpAF heritage) or possibly an S. Many users didn't even upgrade to the MB seats and retained modded C-2 seats. Here's what a souped up A would look like (notice the long engine nozzle of the J79-GE-19 motor) - MAP jets of the ROCAF: http://www.916-starfighter.de/Large/Stars/wR256.htm http://www.916-starfighter.de/Large/Stars/wR253.htm Both are ex 319FIS jets, which was the only unit to put the motos of the S into the airframe of the A. They'd also mod the flaps to G/S standard, which gave them ~50% higher flap-limits. Nope. Kelly Johnson built them to be air superiority fighters with a secondary ground attack role - based on Korean War experience. Everybody thinks it was supposed to be an interceptor, because the F-104A was hastily introduced into ADC, when the F-102A failed big and didn't meet specs by a long shot, so the 104 was used as stop-gap. It was a Mach 2 jet, after all. With a sh1tty radar and no frontal attack capability. The gunsaight was good, though. If the gun worked. But that's not what the aircraft was designed to be, which in turn was the F-104C for TAC. TAC, however, was all in on the F-105, so the 104 got sidelined and Lockheed went on a rather aggressive sales-tour. With known results.4 points

Announcement! Historical Description The Lightning was Britain's first supersonic fighter with a maximum speed and climbing rate that exceeded everything but was limited by its short range and average weaponry. The Lightning was the result of the P.1A which was designed after the demand in 1947 for a supersonic research aircraft. The first of the three prototypes flew in August 1954, and later showed supersonic capabilities thanks to two Bristol Siddeley turbojets without afterburners. It was clear that this type had the qualities of an interceptor-fighter and the name was changed into P.1B witch flew first in April 1957 with two Rolls-Royce Avon turbojets. After a long development period with 20 pre-production aircraft the Lightning F.Mk1 came in use in 1960 with two 30 mm. cannon's and two Firestreak air to air missiles. Malta Aviation Museum Lightning F.2 Single-seat fighter (an improved variant of the F.1), delivered in 1962. A total of 44 built with 31 later modified to F.2A standard, five later modified to F.52 for export to Saudi Arabia. Lightning F.2A Single-seat fighter (F.2s upgraded to near F.6 standard); featuring Avon 211R engines, retained ADEN cannon and Firestreak (replaceable Firestreak pack swappable with ADEN Cannon Pack for a total of four ADEN Cannon), arrestor hook and enlarged Ventral Tank for two hours flight endurance. A total of 31 converted from F.2. DCS Aim to create a player flyable model Accurate EFM Gear simulation 2x IR Guided Missiles Exterior model Exterior animations and livery Interior avionic systems modeled to recreate the Lightning F.2 Ferranti AI radar and HUD Ejection Seat Damage model Updates will be posted bellow Currently on hold3 points

Most ASA and every ASA/M also lost air to ground capability completely, as well as the gun (they put avionics for the Sparrow/Aspide in there). If we had to have only one version I would much rather it was a classic G for that reason alone. Of course, Aerges could also repeat what they've done with the C-101 and Mirage and just give us different versions. I don't think it's a coincidence the announcement picture didn't show the tail for instance, since that is the most noticeable differentiator between the A/C and G/S.3 points

I can say with some confidence that this idea can be accomplished. All that is needed is a collision shell. As @crazyeddie has said, the difficult part is finding the flat area. Otherwise clipping occurs, and this ruins the effect. You all thought you could not spawn aircraft upon the ocean? I am here to tell you, this is now possible! It is all about the collision shell. However, I have already done something similar! Try THAT with the F-18! The best part? They leave a wake upon taking off! Who Knew?3 points

Yeah, F-104 official module. Thanks Aerges, looking forward to it. Also great to hear about upcoming F1 updates.3 points

It was even more complicated: originally Kelly Johnson designed F-104 as air superiority fighter to defeat MiGs in air combat. He personally contacted Korean war US fighter pilots to know what was, in practice, the most important factors in air combat. Their conclusion was more or less: speed, acceleration, climb rate, zoom climb, ceiling, gun. Thus he created a fighter which overperformed every existing aircraft in this parameters, armed with newly designed powerfull Vulcan gun. But USAF testing it was more inclined to use it as interceptor due to its fantastic performance. Still, their USAF pilots in units were trained for air combat to outfly enemy fighters, using it as the most powerfull BnZ fighter ever.3 points

COMPETITION ENTRY https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3332722/ This is my only entry for the Livery Competition as I need a good long lie down now. B-17G-35-BO 42-32024 WA – L, “Swamp Fire” 524th Squadron, 379th BG, 41st Combat Wing of the 8th USAAF based at Kimbolton, Cambridgeshire Feb to Dec 1944. Completed on 15th January 1944, she was flown to England on Valentine’s Day and 1 week later began her active service. In just short of 10 months, Swamp Fire completed 117 missions, becoming the first 8th AF aircraft to achieve 100 missions without an abort on 1st November 1944. In December 1944 she was damaged in a landing incident by a rookie crew and struct off. But her service wasn’t over and she went onto fly a further 30 weather observation missions before finally returning to the US on 12th July 1945 where she was sold for scrap in December 1945. In her time with the 379th, Swamp fire had 20 engine changes, a new tail, 3 wing replacements, large sections of a new nose and over 1000 patch repairs. The feat of keeping her flying without fail earned her crew chief, M/Sgt Dominic DeSalvo, the Legion of Merit. As Depicted Swamp fire is depicted after her 99th mission as we already have a 100-mission skin. This episode of her life is well documented photographically enabling me to match wear and tear quite accurately to the real deal across many parts of the airframe. She’s depicted with a replacement tail, the new outer port wing installed after her 69th mission and replacement port cheek turret (something, along with the tail that was replaced within her first 25 missions). De-icing boots have been removed and the bare metal overpainted. In making the skin, I referenced around 20 photos of the aircraft along with about another 50 of contemporary aircraft. There is very little paint flake seen. I put this down to a good build, a pretty young aircraft (she was under 8 months in service at this point) and the well documented flow of replacement parts. Wear and Tear The skin uses several wear layers that I’ve created just for it including: Service wear on the wings and over the saddle of the plane just behind the dorsal turret. This is referenced from photos of Swamp fire. Chips and scratches. Quite subtle. I have attempted to match these to photos of the real thing, especially around No2 engine and the port side nose and port horizontal stabiliser. Patches. As above, Ive tried to match the patches seen on the real thing to the skin. Patches are also given some depth through their inclusion in the custom Normal DDS. These also some Duct Tape in there too as it appears to have been used on the most obvious patch on the nose. Mud and grime around the undercarriage. Stencils and nose art. The nose art and stencils have been created from scratch. The additional “graffiti” is based on what I could make out in the photos and what I deemed highly likely. Some decal and colour plate references have additional art but I can find no evidence elsewhere so have not included it. The name “Emma” on the chin turret is a guess based on 2 images that I found. The Victory Cross is deliberately poorly drawn and replaces the equally shonky Swastika to better suite modern sensibilities. Generic Skin This retains the old, overpainted code triangle. An image of Swamp Fire after mission 69 shows the larger yellow Code triangle still absent so indicates it was a later addition to all BG aircraft. I’ve made the assumption that Swamp Fire isn’t showing this marking because of a tail refit and that it was likely a widespread feature on many original/older aircraft in the BG. Template alterations and corrections At least half of the 220 hours I’ve worked on this has been spent on editing the existing layers to both better suit an Olive Drab scheme and fix a few faults. Not a full list but this includes: Editing the bright highlights intended for bare metal finishes present on the engine cowls, cheek turrets and saddle joints. Editing the baked part layers to suit the painted scheme and correcting rogue shading (on the starboard lower aileron for instance) Editing many of the general and weathering texture layers to reduce rogue elements near skin joints. Correcting the Seam layer on the wings that is combined with a general texture treatment in the stock template. This eliminates the effect that makes the starboard wing look darker in game. Created the missing identification lights under the fuselage using edited lighting elements from the template. Editing some of the pant layers (clack mainly) into components to better control representation. WARLORD64’s JSON mod. The skin is a compromise between what is standard and this mod. Spec maps are adjusted to tame the effect of the mod if used but not so much the aircraft appears completely flat in the standard game. Much of the chipping has been given a matte treatment in the Spec as I don’t like the in-game darkening effect in certain lights and am not convinced those areas would be so reflective in any case. So it really only affects larger, factory present, bare metal areas. THANKS To everyone for the help and advice. Special thanks to Helles Belle for sharing his Hex code for the Olive Drab.3 points

It was only 3D, none of the coding of the different systems were shown, 3D is only a small part of the work, the coding is he biggest one because you can issues that lead to hold in the code and such, be patient and let Aerges work at their pace and they will bring what they promised Also the INS is all new, there is a MFD with multiples pages to code, CCIP and CCRP to code. New radar screen aswell, and new weapons to add with a way more advanced weapon computer and a brand new HUD that combine Mirage 2000C and F/A-18C in terms of informations on the screen, also new radios (2 green from the 2000C), and much more.3 points

... ok, I took a look into your dcs.log amd I can see that you have disabled the F-4E: "2023-08-24 18:30:50.066 INFO Scripting (Main): plugin: SKIPPED 'VSN_F4E': disabled by user" However, there is no trace of the F-4B ... if you had it properly installed, a line like this would be present on the log: "2023-08-24 22:52:42.496 INFO SOUND (Main): Added sound path: g:\Users\Eduardo\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Mods/aircraft/VSN_F4/Sounds" So, re-check your install of the Mod, maybe you placed it on the wrong path .. I have mine on this folder: Also, you have literally dozens of user mods active ... That's not good, for many reasons: - Your DCS start up time gets longer, as each mod have to be loaded. - Your DCS uses more ram than a cleaner setup, tough I see that you have lots of RAM (128 GB), it seems a bit of a waste tough. - You don't actually use all of those mods at the same time. - Greater chance of conflicts between Mods. Even more, many of the Mods you have seem to be old versions, which results in lots of errors that usually are ignored by DCS but can result in hard to solve bugs. On my case, I only enable the Mods that I'm actually using on my current Missions ... like you, I do have a large mod collection, but I only enable what I need at any one time.3 points

Hi, this has been discussed in-depth before. Essentially the current behaviour is approved by SME with thousands of hours in the plane and verifiable by the performance data. Some errors here and there might still be present (and the behaviour at very high AoA and with asymmetric payloads will be reviewed). But, especially for subsonic speeds, we are confident that the model is very accurate. Some tips/clarifications: the F1 can carry a lot of fuel for its size, so I'd recommend not dogfighting unless you're below half full. It also likes to stay fast. It's possible to outrate other contemporary fighters but only with low fuel and keeping the speed high. Disengaging and extending to search for more favourable fight conditions also works quite well.3 points

The F-104S's had an uprated engine and access to Sparrows. They weren't that much different from the G. That said, I totally agree with you. Often times, those latest and greatest versions of Cold War fighters were stop-gaps, meant to keep squadrons flying so that its replacement can be procured.2 points

After permission from the dispatcher, you need to taxi and queue for the Mi-26. Don't be afraid to get closer to the Mi-26. The soldier stands there on purpose so that the Mi-26 does not fly away ahead of time. You can safely launch at your own pace, the Mi-26 will be waiting for you at the runway. At the expense of speed, I tried to set such a pace so that it would not be boring to fly after him)). Do not try to get too close, 200-300 meters will be enough.2 points

To add some info, I have a 175Hz G-Sync monitor and I run at 150-175fps (forced V-Sync on my Nvidia control panel. also V-Sync doesn't affect the movement of the camera, maybe made them more smooth?). But before I changed GPU I was running at 110-150fps and I still had the same "issue". When I found out that the weird stuttery movement came from Opentrack going at 64Hz I was so happy to have a very stable and fluid experience in DCS haha.2 points
-
With OpenTrack sometimes the tracking goes to 64Hz (I have the PS3 Eye camera) and I need to restart OpenTrack to have the full 187Hz to have a smooth movement, if it changes to 64 the movement is not smooth at all... Maybe DCS need a higher Refresh rate of you camera than your FPS ? Idk...2 points

It is, even while you and I are laughing our asses off as we're using VAICOM and don't have this issue at all, (except for some scenarios where there are tankers with identical call signs on the same frequency. We need more tanker callsigns). For those that don't already know, VAICOM is now free and VoiceAttack is like 10 bucks. And if you don't have VoiceAttack already, you're doing yourself a disservice. Some might feel it's "cheating" you do stuff in the cockpit, but I use it for a lot more, like bringing up the message history, mission briefing etc. (Together with Taz1004's no pause mod obviously!) It has a relatively high wing-loading and it has roundabout 80%'ish more internal fuel than a MiG-21. It also has about one ton more thrust at military power and roundabout the same thrust in burner as the MiG-21 (emergency regime not considered). At 8000RPM (that's roughly 95%) and clean'ish you'll hit roundabout 600KIAS on the deck, which is insanely fast. You'll scratch the Mach at >7500RPM at high altitude, clean. Keep your speed above 450 KIAS/ Mach .9 and try to sustain energy. It's not a one-circle fighter like the MiG, but you can usually scissor pretty well in it. As long as you baby the engine. The turn-rate is relatively constatnt throughout the envelope, thanks to the combat flaps. You can also pull the other guy into the sight pretty well for a snap-shot. It's an easy jet to operate, but it's probably the hardest jet to fly well. Yet.2 points

Personally I would rather a functioning replay system with the ability to fast forward and rewind to specific bits to watch, be it to see how well you did, stuff you need to do better, creating videos or just for fun watching stuff you have blown up, over and above new content. Purchasing new content seems to be the obvious way to fund it but the risk is the insatiable demand for content means it never gets high enough up the list to happen.2 points
