  1. Good Morning, Good Afternoon Everyone. I have released the Sovremenny Class Destroyer Admiral Ushakov. Features are listed below. I forgot to add livery of the Russian destroyer Nastoychivy. I think you all will enjoy the newest AI Russian Ship addition to DCS. Admiral Ushakov Admiral Ushakov is a Sovremenny-class destroyer of the Russian Navy. Previously she was named Besstrashny before being renamed in 2004. The project began in the late 1960s when it was becoming obvious by the Soviet Navy that naval guns still had an important role particularly in support of amphibious landings, but existing gun cruisers and destroyers were showing their age. A new design was started, employing a new 130 mm automatic gun turret.

  5. Actually our Basic, Advanced and Tactical Qualification campaigns have been updated to include the A-10C II. So the download package contains 2 campaigns - one for the A-10C and one for the A-10C II. I'll talk to ED about getting the campaign descriptions updated as it's not clear from their current listing.

  9. Charts and compasses and sextants and celestial navigation are all wonderful tools. They can tell you where you are and what direction you're going. But they can't tell you where the place is you're trying to go to if it keeps moving (e.g., the aircraft carrier)! That's why we need radio navigation.

  10. I've actually looked into the Batch 2 River Class, if I find a suitable model I might make it. Most modern ATGMs can also target and defeat low and slow air targets like helicopters. I will probably make more AI aircraft. Huh, strange. I'll look into it. Thanks for the report. Yep, I use available online sources. It will feature the Vacuum-1 and Afganit.

  14. Like we had in IL2/1946... "Hayrake" radio navigation system to find your way back to the carrier. No F10 'magic map'. Adds a whole lot of realism when there's nothing but blue ocean everywhere you look, and you need to find a flat place to land.

  15. Lol no. The G has a whole DC to daylight EW suite built into it, no F4E has anything even close to that. Even the F16 HTS was inferior in capability compared to what the G could do.

  16. Yes we can, because they're on the same level. This myth that FC3 FMs are somehow worse needs to die - FC3 FMs were brought well up to snuff years ago.

  17. They used plotting boards, with dead reckoning based on course, drift, speed and time flown and the ship’s point of intended motion. You’ll see pictures of pilots holding their boards, which slid into the instrument panel. No F10 view with a working plotting board with Hayrake as a backup (that didn’t always function, battel damage, 1940’s electronics) would be awesome.

  20. If it ever finishes, sure. The "recent" AI updates only made guns-only against the AI (and thus OP's campaign experience) even sillier. At least they're no longer pulling endless vertical loops. The AI simply has not got the same restraints as the player. Fly against an F-5, MiG-21, F-16, Su-27... it's all the same experience. If it has chosen "rate fight" as it's tactic, it will not get out of afterburner and end up rating around at very high speeds (0.9+ mach) while using G to gain angles. As such you can regularly see an AI F-5 pulling 9G. I've seen them go as high as 11. If you so much as scrape them with a bullet, they will pull their own wings off on the next turn. They will not stop doing this even if you slow down and go 1C, so you will get endless snapshot and missile opportunities, but you'll never get on their six as they will simply always have a higher energy state. If it has chosen "radius fight" as it's tactic, it will wallow at just above stall speed with perfect nose authority. You will never get "better radius" because the player's flight model does not have the same level of control at those speeds. However, you can just speed up and take the fight vertical for endless high to low guns solutions, because they will never take a proper gunshot anyway (only head-on for some reason) and will not have the energy to climb with you. If you have managed to get behind them, they will light the afterburner and just start pulling 6-8G jinks out of plane every time you threaten a gunshot (for which they have perfect awareness). Once again, you're getting literally endless opportunities for snapshots and missile solutions once it starts doing this, as the AI will never translate a jink into a defensive break or similar way to force an overshoot. It will just keep plowing on at 450 knots or more. They are not flying anything close to proper BFM, they're just using perfect awareness and unrealistic flight models. Most fights will end with a relatively high aspect guns snapshot kill, or if you carry missiles... by a nice rear aspect shot after the 3rd turn. You can beat even Ace level 4th gens in an F-5 while never coming out of MIL. Sooner or later it will fly into your gunsights, run out of fuel... or into the ground. It's simultaneously incredibly easy to beat them, and really really frustrating. If you want to learn about the handling characteristics of your aircraft and get really good at snapshots, use the AI. If you want to practice proper BFM basics, start running butterfly sets with another player.

  22. B. I would argue on that. - 1st argument: Even Aeronautica Militare Italiana pilots acknowledged that variants with M61A1 are more suitable to real combat, and current radar does not give possibility to use Aspide missiles at full capabilities. - 2nd one: Since there's not much combat reports about F-104S, one can use a MiG-21PF/FL/PFM combat reports to check effectiveness of gunless fighter. In Egypt , India, and Vietnam they were extensively used, and there is a multiple reports how desperately its pilots needed a gun. In multiple occasions pilots were forced to ram their opponents. - 3rd one: It's hard to name a F-104S a "peak". It was by then very very old plane. In spite of these modification, loss rate were very high. (source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aeritalia_F-104S_Starfighter). It was rather a try to save money by extending a use of the same old plane couple years longer. All other countries possess gen 4 and 4+ fighters by then. If I search a "peak" it must be something competitive to compared fighters in the time. In case of F-104 I would say it's F-104 A/C/G. Being Light was extremely important for 104. Kelly Johnson had an Idea of very light, very fast, and very simple, cheap plane. With such small wing every later modification made plane heavier, made turn performance more ridiculous. F-104A was really competitive, since his opponents were MiG-17 / 19 / 21F-13. And they all performed worse than he did. Later modifications seem to forget the main point. Simple, cheap, light. Latest is not always the best.

  31. Hi, Dimitry. First an important question: did you uncheck the "Weapon Trigger Guard active" in the AH-64D special options, or bind a key to the trigger guard in the controls, so it isn't a simple issue of the safeguard preventing you from firing? The "WEAPON?" message in the IHADSS shows, you have not selected (WASed) a weapon, but it doesn't hurt to double check the trigger guard. Also, the procedures for rocket employment were not changed, since the EA release of the Apache and all three employment modes (direct, indirect and coop) work as described in the manual and explained/demonstrated in the training. With that out of the way, did you do the Training Mission No. 5 "Unguided Rockets"? I highly recommend to first read the section "Aerial Rocket Sub-System (ARS)" page 343 ff of the chapter "Weapons Employment" in the "Early Access guide" (Program files/Eagle Dynamics/DCS World/Mods/aircraft/AH-64D/Doc/DCS AH-64D Quick Start Manual EN.pdf) and if you have the time, the chapter "Tactical Employment", as well. This will familiarize you with the operation of the rockets, especially as with George AI, you need to understand both the PILOT tasks and the tasks normally done by the CP/G, that you need to command(!) George AI in addition. Flying an aircraft that requires two a person crew IRL alone in DCS means an even higher workload and complexity. IRL Apache crews are trained for quite some time, full time, every day, so each pilot and CP/G can operate both seats, it isn't a simple "hop in, point at enemy and press fire" kind of thing. Take it slow. Do the training step-by-step, listen to the instructions(!) do not rush through. Then train one method (direct fire PLT with MAN RANGE), until you are comfortable and can remember the steps. A checklist does help, as well. From what I've read, crews will go through a checklist, before a weapon engagement whenever possible. -PLT - rockets WASed -C/PG - rockets deWASed -Verify HAD - RKT NORM -Verify WPN Page - QTY and TYPE selected -Verify A/S (Master Arm) - set to ARM -Range Source - select MAN (enter distance) or AUTO Then you need to look at the intended impact area (hold the LOS reticle over the target) and maneuver the helicopter so the nose points in that direction and the "I" (Rocket Steering Cursor) aligns with the LOS reticle. If you have manual distance set fire when in range, if you have Auto-ranging set, when the Rocket Steering Cursor is solid and you are closer than 3.500m to get a minimum of precision. The theoretical range should be about 7.5 km, but the dispersion of the rockets is insane at that distance. So if you don't plan on an rocket artillery strike with all 38 rockets as a barrage, get close and align carefully. For direct fire in Coop mode, have George WAS rockets as well. Verify HAD shows COOP and George will put the dashed target marker (ACQ source TADS) on the target you made him track from his list. Now simply align the "I" (Rocket Steering Cursor) with your(!!!) LOS reticle (not the dashed ACQ source) and if the Rocket Steering Cursor is solid and no "Inhibit messages" on the HAD, pull the trigger. It takes some practice to understand and get good with the rockets, but they are quite fun.

  34. 1 means that your CPG has control over rockets. 2 means that when you WAS weapons, those options in the circle will be gone. If you need it any easier that this, maybe Apache is not for you.

  35. I meant nothing bad. In history books regia aeronautica wrote a story which bring Italy no shame. Unlike a Luftwaffe.
    2 points
  36. 1.man be careful about names! It’s Aeronautica Militare Italiana, regia aeronautica was the old fascist air force during in the interwar period and ww2. Anyways that plane wasn’t for real combat, it was a border control plane. Take off, intercept fast (and at that it was an unrivalled beast), throw at it whatever you got and hopefully run away. 3. they also missed the speed when they transitioned to the tornadoes and f-16s. and rather than saving money it was more favouritism towards certain industries.

  37. @currenthill; I got no easy way to tell you this but your MiG-29MU2 is causing conflicts w/ FC3's MiG-29C. I had to delete it to get my control mapping to work again. Otherwise, it'd kick me back to the Su-25T mapping. I'm not sure what to tell you but I suspect it's because you're calling for the whole folder in one of your .luas and not just the physical model. Just a thought. If it makes you feel any better I spent 5 hours debugging tonight because I love the Ukraine Fulcrum so much! Sorry; JOE
    2 points
  38. Ah, then we're halfway to solving that problem already! "Give me a lever long enough, a fulcrum on which to place it, and a firm spot on which to stand, and I will replace your plane's flight model when you're in the backseat!" Smart man, that Archimedes

  39. Hey CH, Have you considered expanding on your AI aircraft collection? I really like the MIG-29UM2. I was thinking you could do a F-15e and F-16CM circa 2023 using the full fidelity ingame models. They could receive AESA radars, Sniper Pod (Cosmetic), Legion Pod (F-16 only), Aim-120D3, Aim-9X Block II (if that makes an ingame difference), GBU-54 LJDAM, GBU-39 SBD, GBU-53 Storm breaker (F-15e only), AGM-158B Jassm-ER, MALD (F-16 only), EPAWSS (if it makes a difference). It would be an awesome addition, and I think there is a ton of potential. THX Gundamator

  40. Yup you will rarely catch it running full bore. Usually it will only boost for a few seconds if it needs it here and there. I thought the same when I finally upgraded mine too…. Wait a minute it only runs at 15%?!?! .. Doing 3d rendering, rendering videos/ movies and things like that, you will prob see some pretty high clock speeds though… BTW I just saw a video of yours about how you think about and make campaigns. Very impressed at your thought process and thoroughness. I’m usually not a campaign kind of guy but after seeing that video, I bought all of yours that you have out

  41. Hi Currenthill, huge fan of your work so far, the naval assets in particular. I was wondering if you were considering doing (and if not would you consider it) the Royal Navy "River Class" of vessels, e.g. HMS Spey and HMS Tamar? The class is still having vessels commissioned as recently as 2020/21 so would not necessarily depart from your more contemporary/modern approach to DCS assets. I think your work on the Type 45 and Type 26 is fantastic and any expansion on the RN fleet would be amazing!

  42. The CPU will only run as fast as it needs too. What it is most likely telling you is that your CPU isn’t actually working that hard. I have my ASUS AI Overclock on that claims 6.1Ghz but I’ve never seen it actually run close to that. Chances are those high numbers are just performance metrics saying the CPU COULD boost that high if it needs to. Under normal operation, you usually won’t see those high numbers…. Now that being said, on the other hand the CPU will throttle its speeds if the temperature gets too high, to protect itself. It would be a good idea to monitor the temp under load too, just for piece of mind. Temperature can be a big player in performance, if the CPU and GPU start to throttle. On a side note: Curious why you set 24gig pagefile and not 32 gig? I’ve always seen NL, BN, Special K and others recommend a 32 gig page file. Honestly I don’t know if it makes that much difference. I’m actually curious for my own knowledge why you picked 24, because I don’t know any better. To add to my above comment. Your new cpu has more cores and threads to spread out the load. It doesn’t always need to run super high speeds to accomplish the same amount of work as a cpu with less cores would. When I’m playing DCS MT even on a heavy Liberation mission I rarely see my CPU run over 20% once everything is loaded up and running on i7-13700k cpu.

  47. I personally think you're doing a great job, especially at keeping the quality high. I mean, the change logs clearly tells the story with all fixes, changes and additions! And I don't mean to be argumentative, but if you were to put all your resources at creating AI assets, wouldn't the outcome have been very different? Hence, that is per se the definition of prioritization. That said, I don't disagree with your priorities, it's a balance act for sure.
