  1. Dear Virtual Fighter Pilots, Partners, and Friends, During the past 30 years, we have worked hard to bring you the most realistic combat flight simulators available for PC. Be it a WWII aircraft or a modern fighter our aim was and remains to offer realism and fun to the entertainment market. With the exceptional technical progress made in hardware and software, it is difficult to tell the difference between DCS and real-world footage. This is wonderful for you and for the industry in general. However, in the light of the current situation unfolding in Israel and Palestine, it is paramount to refrain from generating images which could be misconstrued and potentially put lives in danger. Therefore may we beg you to be sensible and avoid using DCS to create videos of this nature. Our thoughts are with everyone during these uncertain times, and we thank you, our dedicated and caring community for flagging such content and bringing it to the media’s attention. Fake news of this nature is too serious to be left alone and needs to be called out by those of you who know what to look for. Thank you for your understanding and for your support. Kind regards,

  4. Thanks Tromp. Since releasing that post i have slowed down a bit. Still modeling just not a mach speed anymore. The OSA Missile Boat AI Boat mods are complete. I will release them soon so i can move on to repairing the older ships in the Shipyard. This will be BETA release until i can declare the proper script for the SA-N-5 Grail and add hull numbers. Below are the countries currently operating the OSA Missile Boats. Whether they are in operation i'm not sure. Each OSA Mod has livery flags for each country. Weapons: 2x AK230s 30 mm CIWS along with 4x Styx Anti-Ship Missile Launchers. I installed a Manpad Launcher onboard OSA Two but i'm currently using a RIM Script to launch the SA-N-5 Grail Missile until i can declare the proper script for it. DCS has a way of not liking the names we use for the missiles we declare. No matter what i tried it didn't work. The Missile has the proper specs for the SA-N-5 though. OSA One -- GT.Countries = {"China", "Egypt", "India", "Germany", "North Korea", "Poland", "Romania", "Syria", "Yugoslavia", "USSR", "Russia", }; OSA Two -- GT.Countries = {"Algeria", "Bulgaria", "Egypt", "Cuba", "Finland", "India", "Iraq", "Libya", "Russia", "USSR", "Syria", "Vietnam", "Yemen",}; Stay Tuned, Admiral189

  10. DLSS works well for me in VR, you have various quality settings while using DLSS, if you want more frames and set to performance then you will reduce quality. So it will be about finding the right balance for you personally. thanks

  11. I'm taking a moment to post some photos of the progress of my project: 1 year of progress on my F16 Sim project. I made the decision to equip myself for the manufacture of panels and possible cuts. This seems like a great adventure to me. That’s a lot of hours of research. Fortunately, many posts sharing their tips. First my material setup : 1. My home cnc : 2. My tropical K40 chip arrived crushed but fortunately the tube remained intact. (The seller did not want to take it back) Progress of the panels : The entire architecture is based on arduino mainly the Nano, pro micro and mega for the MasterUART. (Thanks to the entire Dcsbios community) After cutting the K40 work: Ready to paint: Câblage IFF : RS485 communication test based on MAX487 - Made yesterday, assembly of two large 16/9 screens with 210° view - Looking forward to testing it. Still a lot of work on the horizon - to be continued.... 2023/10/19 - Assembly and painting. ... 01/04/2024 Some progress on the central console :

  12. Would like to see sounds added to reflect the refueling basket or probe making contact with the canopy or body of the jet. Maybe some sort of a considerable clunking sound if it bumps or a grating noise as it scrapes over the surface. Definitely would increase the realism and another item to "jangle" the nerves.. Sincerely, Skyspin

  13. Vince’s “guess” was “30 seconds”, not five as Maxin misquoted. I ran into Aiello in a pilot lounge a long time ago, not too long after he was hired. He had already done a podcast on the F14. I asked him about why he didn’t push back on some of the BS that was already piling up from his interviews. He basically shrugged his shoulders, and the gist was that the show was about entertainment, not a documentary, and he didn’t have the technical expertise to argue against whomever was on the show. I got the drift that the purpose was about clicks and cash, not so much accuracy. He was a NFWS instructor at Fallon by the way, a very different course and mindset than Miramar in the 1970’s and 80’s. The interview does highlight one aspect that is ignored by Tomcat lovers. The F14 was unreliable in comparison to the newer fighters coming online, which was the main driver of its retirement. Everyone points to Dick Cheney as some sort of Darth Vader character, but had the Tomcat had 85% FMC numbers and maintenance man hours in the teens, we’d still by flying the F14E/F strike fighters today. My view is that to achieve Gen 5 reliability, the entire F14 airframe would have had to have been gutted with redesigned systems (not all) and updated avionics. Possible, but costly given the changes in threat and focus when the decision was made. One of the RIO’s in our squadron ended up making RADM, and was a CAG, XO of USS Constellation, held posts in OPNAV in Air Warfare, and Commanded THIRD FLEET. He mentioned that Tomcat maintenance became a morale issue. The Hornet wrenches were sitting around their shops playing cribbage and acey-duecy, while F14 troops worked all night to get enough jets up to make the flight schedule for the next evolution. It was Naval Aviators, based on operational and cost considerations, working in the groups described above, who ultimately made the recommendation to kill the Tomcat.

  14. I tried, but this has become more of a petty disagreement between users rather than a continued helpful bug report. Some things have been reported. When there is more news we will share. If you find something different wrong with the FM, feel free to make a proper bug report. Thanks.

  15. Hey, that was your idea - at least that's how I read it I've done some preliminary tests, and wrote a small script that reads the labels from the map and converts them into destinations. I'm currently pulling this together in a 'Tour Director' script that hopefully I'll have ready before the next great update drops, so we can have guided tours to the monuments that the great people at OnReTech build. And yes, I've also succeeded in marking landmarks on-demand, so your idea is already covered: Now what needs to be done is putting the finishing touches on the tour director script, some testing, and OnReTech putting out more objects to ogle at.

  18. I’m not sure there’s much to debate here. The USAF System Command generals got upset that they didn’t have full control of the follow on Sidewinder iterations after the AIM-9B - being a Navy project and all- so they kludged the AIM-4 onto the F-4D & F-4E as a “take yer Navy missile and Shove It” tack. It failed miserably, because the AIM-4 was designed to use a Hughes guidance system at altitude against Soviet bombers attacking North America. Thus the hit to kill setting- a proximity fuse is a bad thing when you’re trying to bring down a four engine bomber with 7lbs of explosive. You want the missile to hit and get deep into the bomber before detonating to maximize damage. A Tu-95 will just shrug off a proximity detonation. Without the Hughes MG series guidance computer included on the Air Defense Command aircraft like the F-102, F-101, and F-106 the pilot had to initiate the AIM-4 launch sequence manually- including cooling the seeker head. It’s like bolting an AIM-54 to an F-5 and making the pilot manually steer the missiles radar and trigger the launch. Good luck with that. While all of Rolling Thunder was an exercise in using nuke bomber killing missiles as air superiority tools , the AIM-4 was an egregious case of this . It’s a testament to the F-4 crews’ skill that they killed five MiGs with a weapon and aircraft system combination totally unsuited for that mission.

  19. Size will depend on what you already have installed, if you have many modules the size of the patch increases for you. Newest drivers tend to be the best option.

  24. Sheeeesh... Don't forget about history here. The Gazelle was total garbage for seven years. And PolyChop didn't care. It's pure luck for us, the customers (and PolyChop too), that a programmer showed up who actually could do the coding of a helicopter flight model. Technically, The_Fragger saved the BO-105 from PolyChop back in the days and i totally understand him why he had to do it.

  28. If only, ED improves Engine model according to advice given by @Tim_Fragmagnet the DCS Huey has the potential of becoming one of the best helicopter FM for household pc simulation the world has seen to date. The biggest problem for me with the fm so far is: A: All the problems tim has mentioned already regarding performance B: The slip indicator not working properly C : mast bumping and rotor seperation occuring way too easily. Although this might get fixed as a byproduct of the above adjustments (I suspect it might have something to do with incorrect lift/thrust causing incorrect disk loading unloading and causing mast bump). As of now its impossible to perform these maneuvers shown in this video here (pushover seems doable with no airspeed) and any aggressive flying generally... Ps @SMH this is a great video (mind the low vhs quality) showing powerful climb rates with zero airspeed in various segments... Watch from the start. I think it might change your misconception regarding this behavior.

  31. It would be extremely helpful if you could add a kneeboard page that is automatically updated every respawn with a list of users/flight group/aircraft and isn't needed to be added in the editor, just a basic function. While in SP this might not be as useful it is huge for MP. This would be extremely useful for MP comms. Most people don't know their flight group identification and being that the aircraft doesn't tell you who they are unless you have on labels (which most servers don't use and shouldn't) you have to go to the role page to find out who is who. A simple list of who is flying what in respect to the flight group is necessary for comms. For example Mav 1-2 - BO11 - F-18 User33 - BO12 - F-18 Pilot88 - BO13 - F-18 Check33 - EO11 - F-16 Delta3 - E012 - F-16 etc.. Separated by flight groups and aircraft.

  32. No problems here with releasing BETA updates on a Friday. Production releases are definitely better for earlier in the week for sure. Newy has made it clear that this is a BETA release. Sure - people are running OB as their main version, but that's on them, not ED. Vanuatu. (And before anyone thinks I'm joking, the question is what timezone is it going to be released in on the 19th. Often a release on the 19th can be the 20th for countries ahead of GMT time, such as NZ, Japan, Australia, etc).

  34. 1. If you have the space it's no harm to have both. Get Skatezilla's GUI Updater/Launcher too, and never look back. You'll probably stop using Stable soon enough, and then just delete it. 2. Last time I used them, yes. 3. It could be considered "good" to keep them separately performance wise. And you can't move them without moving your whole Saved Games, unless you do some Windows trickery with symbolic links etc. Cheers! Sent from my SM-A536B using Tapatalk

  35. You see, you can say that but I guarantee you someone will have only read your first paragraph and try to make an argument about how the 106 and others were able to make good hits with it. I agree with you, wrong missile in the wrong place on the wrong platform.

  38. Hi all, a suggestion for VR use case with OpenXR. Today, when we press zoom in VR the picture is very unstable (sensitive to small movements). In OpenXR we have Shaking Reduction setting, which enabled, causes the picture to be much more stable and thus usable. However if kept at high setting, there's a noticeable delay when looking fast from left to right, so I suggest to integrate Zoom/OpenXR setting in a way that when we press Zoom, OpenXR Shaking Reduction is enabled, then when zoom is released, the Shaking Reduction setting goes to the old setting.

  40. I doubt this. We commenters here are a tiny minority of the people who will buy both modules. Remember the majority of DCS players got their start flying something advanced , like a MiG-29/ F-16/ F/A-18, Su-27 ,F-15 or similar. If you fly an F-4E the same way you’d fly an F/A-18 , your flight is ending with a ride on the ejection seat. Playing the horizontal game with an F-4E (or MiG-23 for that matter) is a ticket on the pain train. Getting A2A kills with the F-4 requires finesse and tactical understanding of using the jets power in the vertical. That is just not how DCS players do BFM with 4th Gen stuff, except maybe the sharper F-15E players. I suspect when the F-4E drops we’ll see a DCS reenactment of the errors US crews made between 1965 and 1969:people getting shot down playing 1 circle nose pointing contests. After a few months people will understand that’s a bad idea and start learning how to properly fight the jet, but on release it’s gonna be a great day to be a Mirage F-1 or MiG driver.

  41. I mean it it's been pretty civil I would think. In that case, isn't a forum full of nerds obsessed with aircraft going to have constant debates around aircraft matchups? I suppose the comparison talk should be kept to the proper Phantom vs XXX thread though. I'm not trying to be crass here but I feel like complaining about this is like watching a football game and being annoyed at all the fans of the other team for existing. Then again this is an online forum so maybe people complaining is something I should get used to

  45. Compared to the F-4 from heatblur it will be, compared to say the F-5 or Mig15, it might not be. It's probably the best vsn mod so far. But heatblur is on a completely different level(even compared to most 3rd party developers and even ED at times) Vsn does good stuff(of late) and I hope they continue and even advance into a full 3rd party developer. Make a 105 or say the F9. That would be awesome. But yeah the heatblur F-4 is gonna blow almost anything out of the water.
