DCS World.8 points

@Legs Hard to say. I was planning on doing the update for the AH-64 once the FCR becomes available. I'm way too caught up in the Strike Eagle at the moment to start working on other guides, especially since some people were not pleased that I've spent time working on updating the L-39, German warbirds and Gazelle during the last few months. It's a tough situation to be in; whatever I choose to spend time and energy on, someone somewhere will think I should be doing something else.6 points

PCL-181 SPG (China) version 1.2.0 released! Changelog Version 1.2.0 Changed 155mm unguided HE minimum range to 3 km Changed elevation limits to 7-70 degrees when clear from the cab Changed max engagement azimuth to 120/120 Changed range and azimuth markers in ME In this updated version I have extended the rotation limits to 120/120 degrees. And when you have cleared the cab at around 25/25 degrees the cannon will elevate down to 7 degrees for the really short range targets.5 points

I was thinking it would be very nice if someone from Aerges could give us a rundown or roadmap of the planned features and functionality of the Cyrano IVM simulation. The Cyrano IVM is a radar that does not have a lot of publicly available information, and the simulation in DCS as it is now is obviously WIP. I understand that the effort will be a long one, and I think most DCS players are accustomed to waiting for stuff like this. However in the meantime I think it would be nice if we knew what the plans were in terms of detail and capabilities of the radar. Some information that would be helpful: According to pilot experience / available documentation how effective was DATEP compared to the previous MTI in earlier Cyrano IVs? Are there any more details about how DATEP functions? Does the MTI have significant blind speeds in lookdown, and how does the radar determine when to use it? In older Cyranos the MTI function was tied to the altitude modes that aren't present in the IVM. Also just a general impression of the radar from what Aerges knows about it and what you are planning to implement would be really cool so we know what to expect while waiting. Thanks! Love the F1 and all the tons of hard work Aerges has put into it! My favorite jet in DCS (and one of them IRL)4 points

Hey Guys these are all wonderful photos of the Fleet of ships. To answer your question, Citizen. DCS doesn't like when we create a single object ship collision models for the ships so I've gone back to the old way of doing business and that's separating the flight deck from the rest of the collision mod. That has proven to solve the FPS drop issue. All ships will be tested for FPS drop prior to release using multiple aircraft types. Acid that is a VSN mod. All versions still work in DCS. F-35A, B & C. They appear to respond to air threats quicker than some of the other AI Aircraft. bbtbmb you can always revert back to an older version of DCS. The mods still should appear in the game no matter which DCS versions you are using. ******My back procedure went well yesterday but I'm down hard at the moment. Back pain like you wouldn't believe. Recovering slowly.********4 points

It's really sad to know that there is people so entitled with the works others do for free in benefit of this hobby .. please know that not everyone is like that, I'm happy with whatever Guide you choose to do or update, in fact I enjoy to be surprised when you come out with a new Guide4 points

Looks good as always. But I think it's time for some detailed videos. None of the remaining do to listed, seem to have any effects on videos showing it flyable, take off from carrier, use of weapon etc. We have lots of pics but only like 20 seconds of video from the 2023 and beyond trailer.4 points

I think there may be some confusion in this thread related to the definition of "lock on". Designating a point on the 2-D radar map for non-visual bombing is separate from the air-to-ground ranging 'lock-on' procedure. For ranging we are only talking about the WSO selecting the correct strobe on a 1-D linear range sweep, after which the radar tracks range automatically. Please read again, and also keep in mind my note above. The WSO is very specifically called out in the procedure, and is required to position the cursor over the correct strobe using the rear cockpit radar hand control. Agreed that angle tracking is not involved. Here is my interpretation after careful reading, which I am sticking to unless there are real world F-4D/E WSO on here who disagree: The pre-DMAS F-4E Dive-Toss technique is the same as the A-4 from the pilots perspective, assuming your back-seat driver is awake/alive/sober. The pilot tracks the target visually with the radar slaved to the optical LOS. Unlike in the A-4, the APQ-120 air-to-ground ranging mode requires the WSO to adjust the receiver gain and 'lock' the correct range return on the B-sweep at the start of the dive. On the A-4 the APG-53/A radar set locks on automatically to enable single-pilot operation; in the two-seat F-4D/E, there was no need for an added computer. Just let the WSO earn his pay to save the weight, cost, and complexity of more 1960s electronics. Alternatively the Pave Spike pod could provide laser range-finding when carried. On DMAS and other upgraded Phantoms, the new digital computers are programmed to take full control of the radar for sophisticated air-to-ground ranging of the predicted impact point. Using commercial minicomputers as a benchmark, the performance-per-weight of digital processors had gone up over 50x from 1968 to 1978, allowing computing power to be spent on non-essential tasks. The fate of early 1970s avionics was to be totally obsolete in just a few years, although not necessarily useless. For the DCS F-4E, HB could reasonably simplify the APQ-120 function and leave out that ranging procedure to save development effort for more important features. However I don't think it would be fair to take away the fun mini-game the WSO gets to play on his radar scope to distract from impending death while the 'Aircraft Commander' attempts to dive-bomb AAA emplacements. As an interesting footnote, the slightly newer British AWG-11/12 fire control system appears to have some kind of automatic ground ranging lock-on, but still initiated from the rear cockpit.4 points

CURRENT VERSION IS NOT IN THE GAME. If you want to use this skin, you need to rename it in the description.lua (at the bottom) to something different, for example: name = "12th Combat Aviation Brigade Weathered UPDATE" countries = {"USA"} I've contacted NineLine about the possibility to update it in the game files Link3 points

Man I love the work! You're keeping me motivated. I had to redesign and print a bunch of parts because of a fundamental change I decided to make.. but I'm getting into final assembly and wiring before teardown and paint. Hopefully by the end of this week I'll have some beauty shots and it'll be my daily driver. Until then here's a shot of this thing puking its guts out all over my kitchen table.3 points

The recent update on the A-7E got me thinking about the state of DCS' naval assets again. Right now between the F-14, community A-4, the planned and confirmed A-7, A-6, F-8, A-1, and the speculated Naval F-4 it looks like we have a decent late 1970s/1980s American carrier airwing in the works, and if we don't get too hung up on the module I think we would have something passable for the 1960s and if we toss in the Super Entendard we will have a passable French carrier airwing. However, we don't have the right ships. I'd love to see ED and the other developers get started on fixing this. I made a list of ship classes that were in service with the US, French, and since we could use an OpFor I made Soviet navies in the time frame discussed. I don't expect to see all of them put into DCS so the next question, is which ones should be in DCS? That should be based Doctrine/mission set and the following items in any order Years the class served Number of ships built how many were in service during the 1960s-80s ship variants - subclasses and refits Amount of work to model the variants fame As I have stated in other posts, I'd love to see ED's template system improve so we can place historically correct or user-defined land and naval groups in a mission. Next in the case of ships, when historic mode is on, I'd like to see a finite number of ships in each class with the names automatically changing, whether I am building a naval battle or an amphibious operation I don't want duplicate ship names. Anyway my list of ships and service years, some are already in DCS ------------------US Navy--------------- Aircraft carrier Angled Deck midway Angled deck Essex older fittings of the Forestal cruisers Des Moines (1948–1975) 3 built Baltimore (1943–1971) 14 built Galveston (1958-199) 3 converted Clevlands I'd love the OKC. 2 had 1 6-inch turret one had 2 Providence-class cruiser (1959-1974) 3 converted Clevlands they didn't have a consistent number of turrets Albany (1967-1980) 3 converted Baltimore Boston (1955—1970) 2 converted Baltimore Lehey (1962-1995) 9 built Belknap (CGN) (1964-1995) 9 built Long Beach (CGN) (1961-1995) 1 built she normally escorted New Jersey in the 80s California (CGN) (1974-1999) 2 built Virginia (CGN)(1976-1998) 4 built- and we get Texas Ticonderoga-class (Mk26) 2 built they were available before 1985 Ticonderoga-class (VLS) Available from 1985 on. The players in this thread might be interested in this, I have made a reference mission with all the 154 radars on the map with their exact position and radar type as described in the CIU's Rhubarb XII Appendix from April 1944. Obviously we don't have all those radar types in DCS, but it may still help people in making historical mission scenarios German radar sites.miz2 points

Nowhere does it say that rockets cannot be fired from a hover. In fact, firing rockets from AH-64's while in a hover is routinely practiced. Firing rockets (or missiles) when hovering or flying at very low altitudes over the surface is a hazard because the munitions themselves may impact the ground near the helicopter; it is not because of the risk of ingesting rocket motor exhaust. Firing rockets from inboard pylons or in large salvos carries an increased possibility of the AH-64 engines surging, which is why that restriction is written. However, it is certainly feasible to do so (and was also employed on regular occasions in the past, despite folklore claiming otherwise); but given the increased risk, this is a practice that is avoided nowadays. It's a matter of statistical likelihood versus the unnecessary risk of doing so. (AH-64D's ripple firing from two outboard launchers in large salvos as a demonstration in 2015) Anyway, this AH-64 talk is of course a little off topic in the Mi-24 section, but I wanted to bring some context to some of the rumors regarding the subject.2 points

I think it was 4 meg followed by another 4 meg much later in high school junior year. That was ancient history, and had my memory got fussy about that detail. No excuse for forgetting that first computer where I had a 90/10 percent time split with my old man. Now, a 4090... man, I can't even. I'm holding on to my EVGA 2080 Ti from eBay back in 2019 in my 9700K. Happy with that choice, and can't--nor want to--keep up with the new tech every two years in the GPU domain. There must be a limit with these hobbies or else it can get out of hands quick.2 points

The 335th ‘Chiefs’ is DCAF’s largest and premier air to air squadron, operating the F-15E Strike Eagle. Thanks to the incredible power of the F-15E’s -229 engines, APG-70 and load carrying capacity, the Chiefs has the perseverance to stay on station longer, fly higher, and fly faster than any other type in DCAF’s roster. If you are interested in rigorous training, getting a comprehensive air to air understanding, being part of complex operations, immersive experiences, and getting the best out of what DCS has to offer, this is the squadron for you. By the end of the training season, you will be able to operate as a wingman in a flight, execute fourship tacform and BVR in any weather, at any time of day; all without datalink. You will be trained in both DCA and OCA fundamentals in order to tailor the squadron’s air to air tasking according to the mission at hand; including an appreciation of ACM execution. Air to air refuelling, day or night, will be the norm. The squadron boasts a fully trained roster of 12 pilots and is looking to expand its squadron further in anticipation of Operations Season 3, which will take place from next April to the end of June. We anticipate to take on a small handful of new cadets for our training season. The 335th is a very tight knit community that is passionate about what it does and its role in DCAF. We strive to constantly develop ourselves, not only from the baseline of training season, but to progress further with flight leading, instructor qualifications, and mission planning for the overarching DCAF organisation. If you are interested in being part of a highly motivated, well organised and ambitious squadron and do your part, the 335th is a prime choice. If you work hard in training, be assured that you will find your time in DCAF greatly rewarding. Applicants will join for an introductory talk as to what we do, and what is expected from one another. Subject to your introductory talk, you will be invited for some checkrides to assess your initial skill level to decide whether we want to take you on for our training season. After the introductory talk, we will give you all the necessary resources to succeed and invite you to undertake checkrides to ensure you have a good core skillbase. This will include a flying ability assessment with an assessor from startup to shutdown, basic manoeuvres, aircraft handling and air to air refuelling. In addition you will be asked to play a custom mission and submit a tacview and trackfile of your basic combat performance(we aren’t looking for procedures but more to ensure that you are comfortable with using the airframe in basic combat). Upon final review among 335th recruitment officers, if you are accepted we will provide you access to our comprehensive training syllabus, and you will begin formal training from the beginning of January 2025. Training sessions will be hosted 3 times a week at Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday at 1830Z. Thursday is the essential time and you are expected to attend this training session*, but ideally you should attempt to join twice a week in the above slots. 335th training season consists of: Visual circuits – touch and goes around the airfield with controller, Departures & Arrivals – flying in and out of the aerodrome traffic zone, Day and Night Formation flying & TACFORM Day and Night Air to Air Refuelling Unguided Air to Surface Precision Guided Air to Surface Basic Fighter Manoeuvres Air Combat Manoeuvring All Weather Intercept theory Beyond Visual Range timelines Defensive Counter Air BVR modifications Offensive Counter Air BVR modifications Having completed training season you will be given your own jet with custom nose art on it, and become a fully-fledged member of the DCAF 335th. If you would like to get in contact to find out more about the 335th specifically and what we do before applying, please get in contact with any of our recruitment officers on Discord: https://discord.gg/dcaf Buergels, Panny, Rhino182, seb4tron If you would like to apply, please follow the links below: https://forum.dcs.world/clubs/page/92-apply-socials/ We look forward to meeting you soon, 335th Exec Team Wampum!2 points

I'll tell you I fly the Tomcat the most and when using the overlay, if I leave the ball where it should be on the datums I almost always catch the 3 wire, and if not, other wires besides the 1. I can't explain why that is if it's eternally set to the Hornet. One of life's great mysteries I guess. v6, boNes2 points
-
You’re flying the ball properly, which is the problem. In real life the IFLOLS was set according to the aircraft flying the approach, because the hook to eye distance is different. DCS currently doesn’t account for this, and the IFLOLS is set for the Hornet and never changes. For the Tomcat, fly the ball higher than you normally would (about three balls higher I believe) and you’ll start catching the other wires.2 points

Hello, this post shows the 054B frigate from China, compared to his predecessor 054A, the hull has been lengthened, widened to 18 meters, the tonnage is about 6000 tons, and the weapon is expected to be equipped with an H/PJ-87A 100mm main gun Compared to the 052C, there is no chamfer, which is more beautiful. There is an H/AJK16 vertical launch system behind the main gun, which can launch HHQ-16F with a range of up to 180km, and the back uses the same 1130 anti-aircraft gun as 055 and 052D/L, and the turret uses the same oblique turret as 003, and then the center of the ship is equipped with 8 combined YJ-12 supersonic anti-ship missile launchers, and 8/16/32 general vertical launchers may be installed in the future to launch YJ-18 (extremely unlikely), There are two stealthy 726-4A jamming missile launchers behind the boat, and above the hangar there is a 24-pack HQ-10 short-range missile, but I only built part of it!2 points

With Masters of the Air coming soon, it would be a great opportunity to get new eyes on DCS WWII. Any chance we can get bombers to defend themselves from anything other than a slow dead 6 o'clock approach? That will be a real wet blanket to someone who had just bought a Normandy Map, WWII Asset Pack, and a FW190. Saddling up along side enemy bombers and them ignoring you will make people sad. Not a good first impression. Yep, the IL2 market is there for the taking. Eventually, as Wags said, you will run out of compelling jets that can be done that don't have security issues with the info.2 points

Again...says you. No disrespect. I think Robin Olds would disagree. I don't find the shark toothed Air Force E any less recognizable, and grew up seeing/hearing about those just as much as the Naval/Marine ones. They are both equally iconic. So you can make any statement you want in relation to your experience/preference etc, who am I to argue with that. When you or anyone else starts making blanket statements about what is the "most recognizable" version is to everyone.... especially given the history....expect commentary. Based on what? Heatblur's record of delivering top-drawer aircraft in reasonable time frames? I think some of you are confusing your preferences or fears with objective reality. Again, no disrespect, I'm being quite sincere. There are other parties where yes, I'd be "concerned" as well...concerned at least that I'd be dead by the time it arrived. Not so with Heatblur. Good to know, especially since they delivered the first one in under 3 years. Again, based on what? At this point nothing here would surprise me. Hold off all you want, I and most others be enjoying this...2 points

Some updates, got the wing sweep handle printed and functioning. To be honest, I was rather shocked at how well it works, especially given how little and fiddly the parts are. When the handle is extended, the little spring loaded latch flicks out and slots into the '4 degree notches.' I am using a thin strip of carbon fibre as the spring. The handle still has to be painted greay, with the yellow and black striping on the upper part of the handle. You can see in the above shot how the shape of the latch allows it to slip under the notches when being pulle dup, but not when being pushed down. In order to stow the handle once extended, it must be put into the 20 degree or overswept position. And here is a shot of the whole thing almost fully assembled, minus the stepper motor for the wing sweep handle, which is in its mount in the background.2 points

Hey guys, I'm so sorry that I'm so late in seeing this topic! Really appreciate your comments & feedback, and getting to know more about what aircraft interest you guys for DCS. We don't have any solid plans set in stone for future DCS modules right now; we are still committed to finishing the A7 before we start on any other modules in earnest. I can tell you though that we are very much open to coming to bringing some of our modules across to DCS in the future, and we are in-fact coding the A7 in such a way so as to make the porting process easier for ourselves should the time come. By that I mean we are making our flight model code, core systems code and so on modular so that we can potentially reuse it for other modules in the future. The same goes with CFD work - we are putting processes in place to ensure that we can much more efficiently repeat the process in future. Our MSFS P-38 sim is officially licensed by Lockheed Martin, and as such comes with a few strings attached to it. It is definitely inside the realm of possibility though in the future! Thanks for your interest! Cheers Dan FlyingIron Simulations2 points

*bump* Nearly a year later and no sign of the promised dynamic weather yet. Having some "bigger" weather presets with more internal variety could be a very quick and easy addition to substitute a true dynamic weather. Of course the dynamic weather simulation remains the ultimate goal, but until then this proposal could be a really good stopgap.2 points

I have updated the METAR script to handle this weirdness better , currently the "rough" ratio is 33ft (10M) times 2.12 = 1600ft (500m) wind speed ........... which makes it insanely hard to fly in2 points

I have just found this thread and it answers why the METAR weather script is now borked, the wind speed at 33ft is now being multiplied to get wind speed at 1600ft Which makes the wind insanely strong and far too hard to fly in2 points

I'd back this request, building missions using the rain settings brings so may problems with the density of low cloud. Would be great for one of the overcast and rain to be changed to scattered showers. Get the effects from rain, but not the heavy cloud cover.2 points
