Dear Dangerzone, First, let me start by saying I am very sorry this thread went unnoticed for so long. It is an important issue and your detailed and thoughtful post deserved a response, finally after discussing it with management, here we are. Second, this type of feedback is what we look forward to and makes it tougher that I missed this for so long. The answer will be much shorter but please I hope you do not see it a disregard of all your points but rather that we at ED have been seeing what's been going on running two release versions. So the answer is this... The Open Beta and Stable system of the released will be fully reworked. The process will be changed and all our customers will receive only one version of DCS. Now I do not have any more details than this right now and of course no timeline. But this is the direction we will be headed in the future. Thanks once again for the feedback, hope you and yours have a wonderful Holiday Season! NineLine/Norm17 points

Enjoy! Ground AI Development Progress 2023 saw several improvements to AI ground units in both game performance and behavior. To enhance game performance, AI anti-aircraft artillery (AAA) calculations were optimized and large missions with many ground units now take advantage of the performance gains afforded by multi-threading. Multiplayer was also improved with the synchronization of artillery impact points. Route following of both ground and naval units is important and further improvements will be delivered in early 2024. Ground units saw some welcome additions such as the ability to load and unload infantry units, the ability for the AI to select between ammunition types more wisely, new reloading sounds, and new voice over audio for player-controlled ground units using Combined Arms. Radar-directed air defense gun systems got improved target trajectory prediction modeling and the new C-RAM and SA-10 SAM now default to RED alert status with no assigned route. These efforts will continue in 2024 with more natural and randomized spacing of units in a column, improved ground unit suspension modeling over rough terrain, improved counter-battery tactics for indirect fire systems, new and improved air defense unit responses to anti-radiation missile attack, and more realistic damage modeling and visual effects to ships. DCS in 2023 2023 in Retrospect 2023 was a big year for both Eagle Dynamics SA and our 3rd party partners. Much of our work focused on improving the DCS core with important enhancements and bug fixes. Some of the more notable core improvements included: Multithreading. This has allowed DCS to better utilize multiple CPU cores to provide much improved performance for most players. Players can now crank up their graphic details and/or achieve higher frame rates in 2D and VR. DLSS and FSR. Deep Learning Super Sampling and FX Super Resolution (FSR) were also added in 2023 to further improve game performance. Combined with multithreading, 2023 has seen the most significant performance increase in DCS history. Enhanced Voice Chat. Voice Chat received substantial improvements in 2023 with the addition of a better interface, enhanced stability, and communication options. Improved procedural grass distribution tech was implemented to look more natural adding better shading with ambient occlusion and more realistic traction to wind and rotor blast. Other important DCS core improvements included a new datalink architecture systems across several aircraft platforms, enhancements to weapon modeling, new visual target sighting options, improved Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR) modeling, the addition of new weapon types, updated air-to-air radar modeling, new and improved models for several AI-only units, multiplayer performance and stability improvements, new liveries, multicrew improvements, many new and free missions, several new pilot models, and enhancements to the Mission Editor, to name just a few. In addition to these DCS core improvements, 2023 saw the release of many exciting DCS modules and campaigns that included the F-15E from RAZBAM, the Mirage F1 EE and BE from Aerges, the Normandy 2 map from Ugra Media, the Sinai map from OneReTech, and many fantastic campaigns. 2023 also saw continued development and improvements across numerous aircraft, maps, assets, and campaigns. In the spirit of the season, we wish you a Merry Christmas filled with joy, warmth, and memorable moments. Thank you for being a part of our family. DCS is a community-driven project, and your passion fuels our dedication to delivering a world-class simulation. As we navigate towards the skies of 2024, exciting developments lie ahead. Thank you for your passion and support. Respectfully before reading further, can I please ask if you're in the camp of "What's the point of Stable Release, we only need Open Beta", can you please refrain from posting such, as this will just derail the intention of this post. It's not that your opinion doesn't matter, but that the context of this discussion is based on the minority who appreciate Public Beta's vs Stable, and looking for answers that accommodate this mindset. (There's plenty of other topics that relate to that debate where this can be discussed or favor Open Beta users). Dear ED, Our preference has been to use Stable Release and Open Beta as you have intended; Open Beta for testing the new features, and reporting back or working through bugs, and then Stable for release for online servers. Even after you have changed your official recommendation for multiplayers to use Open Beta, we have still appreciated your ongoing stances made in this forum that "Open Beta is for testing, Stable is the Release" and desired to practice multiplayer designing on that basis. I'm aware this goes against the majority of what people do, and that's OK. I've never felt the need to follow the pack, nor to convince the pack to change their minds. Having options is good too. In the past there's been plenty of people who prefer/appreciate stable release out there still to warrant having Stable Release servers. The worst normally meant is having to wait 3 or 4 weeks for the new shiny toys (or try and test them out in Open Beta to learn the new features). Where stability was preferred over instant access - this has worked well. It has also meant more stability and less server maintenance/debugging, as well as supporting the smaller group of players that prefer stable release too. However, changes in release cycles this year has this no longer being a viable option anymore. It seems that the time between a big feature (aka, new module released, or significant enhancement) released on Open Beta vs Stable is increasing to that of Months now instead of weeks. (I note that there has only been 3 stable releases this year, averaging just under 4 months between stable releases). In comparison, if I look at an average over the 4 years prior, I notice the average was over 10 per year. Waiting ~4 months for a long awaited feature is hard, but if that's how long it takes for DCS to become stable, then so be it. However, compounding this issue now is pressure to switch to Open Beta, not to get access to the new features, but to get access to the new 'fixes' as soon as possible, because Stable was released with bugs that aren't fixed until the next OB patch or two. As for now, (even from the perspective of a stubborn minded "Stable Release" user), using Stable is no longer a viable option as users who are wanting stability need to update to the next Open Beta to get patch fixes. (It feels as though Stable Release is being released, not because it's Stable, but because "We're now moving onto the next big change, so that's as good as it's going to get". This leaves us switching to Open Beta to get bug fixes). This post is not to bash ED. I'm sure that ED are choosing releases in what they believe is the best release cycle with their current development roadmap that I'm either not aware of, or haven't considered. I'm being candid with the hope to serve three purposes: The first to give transparent and informative feedback as to how a server administrator who's wanting to use Beta vs Stable in the way you intend is struggling, with the hope that this may be given more consideration in your next planning/roadmap staff meeting. The second is to ask a question: Is what we have seen this year the new approach for ED now? Or is this a temporary change (due MT and DLSS?) and will we be seeing a return to builds being more finished before being released to stable, along with a more frequent stable release cycle at the start of next year as we have seen in years gone by? (I appreciate with Vulkan on the Horizon too, that this change we've seen this year may be ongoing - and if so - that's OK... as what we really need is transparency and guidance, so we have the right information to base decisions on how to handle this moving forward). The last purpose is to ask for help or guidance from ED in this. I'm aware that numerous administrators are closed beta testers, so they basically get some of their "Beta" vs "Release" testing difference through that, but for the others who aren't closed beta testers, do you have any recommendations on how to handle the current situation? (Apart from just joining the Open Beta server hosters and give up on the desire for more stability, along with time to test new features before release)? Thank you for the hard work that you continue to pour into DCS. I'm sure that these have been difficult times as large changes have been made to the underlying code set foundation. I look forward to your response and working with you for making the best decisions moving forward for hosting MP servers for those focusing more on Stability. Respectfully, with Thanks, DZ8 points

Hey, a steam pre-order will come, but closer to release. This is because steam has a few requirements like setting a release date, which we cannot do just yet. But it will come. Please give our very best regards to your father, we're looking very much forward for him to experience the F-4 in DCS. If you want PM me, and you could give your father if you like some kind of gift voucher, for which I would be happy to write you a personal message from us if you like.7 points

Yep, with all your continuous support and finding suitable models I would definitely like to make Polish assets. I thought ED was working on a CH-47? There are a lot of interesting Turkish assets, indeed. It's configured with a reload time of about 5 minutes reload time (as in real life). I just tried it. Make sure you have the latest version of the asset. I thought such mods already existed. Make sure you always have the latest version of the asset, especially since lately almost every DCS update requires changes in the mods to keep DCS from crashing. Definitely, I've already made a couple of older assets like the Strv 103 and the M551. All assets keep their unique IDs, so there shouldn't be an issue. Well, that's the point, the new setup isn't meant to keep assets individual. The lowest level of granularity I will support and update will be the country pack. Exactly! While I can't stop anyone from ripping apart a country pack into single assets, it's not something I will support. Yep, that might seem like a con, but it's actually a pro for me. Updating 100+ individual assets, with everything surrounding a change and release makes it an administrative nightmare. Remember that I'm a one-man-team, so every bit of time I spend on admin could have gone into developing instead. You should consider the country packs as the lowest level of granularity, which makes optimization a very logical choice at that level. Why have the same textures or configurations several times in the same package? Just enable the complete pack and you're good to go. Sorry, but I have to change from supporting individual assets to complete asset packs, otherwise I won't be able to continue the work. This approach will demand more downloads and storage space, but consider what you pay for my assets. I just tested a mission with the Su-24MU and MiG-29MU2 while flying the A-10C II. No issues for me. We'll see, I might look into it. Current status is that most of the cruise missile issues have been fixed. With the latest DCS update both the cruise missile and antiship missile issues are solved. But I had to make some changes to some of my weapons to get everything working again, these will be reflected in my country pack releases. Unfortunately the latest DCS update introduced a new issue with the JDAM-ER (and other weapons using the JSOW missile scheme).6 points

RooBarbJapan that's a great photo keep the snapshots coming and Thanks. I'm getting better every day. MoFly29, I haven't released the Japanese assets. I will try to catch up on modding in 2024. Thanks, RichCotte. You as enjoy the holidays as well. As Hawkeye60 mentioned. I will be offline and traveling for the holidays. It's a well-deserved break I need. I'm not sure if I will be releasing any more mods before the New Year. We will see. Stay Tuned. I hope you all have a wonderful X-Mas and New Year. Thanks for your interest in the AI Ship mods. Lots more to come. Thanks, Hawkeye60. Coalition ships being escorted somewhere in the Red Sea.6 points

Learn to use the aim54 and its strengths, yes there have been changes but that doesn't mean it's useless. It also has its uses on PvP servers. Currently many players fly high and fast between 30-40,000 feet to throw the aim120 far. You can fire the Aim54 at 90nm in TWS mode and it will still reach targets that are at 30-40,000 feet with a lot of energy, sometimes up to M3, if the aim54 catches a player in the situation he dies or has to give up a lot of altitude, even if the aim54 does not make a kill in the situations its use has proven itself, the hostile had to go defensive and give up his altitude, which is an important factor. And also benefits team members.5 points

Nobody has a wish? Then I will start. The Dora is one of the oldest WW2 aircraft in DCS. This bird was the reason I paid Kickstarter money in 2014. But that is nearly a decade ago. DCS has evolved a lot. And the older modules are a little bit left behind. My wish: Do not overhaul only the Allied WW2 aircraft. Think also of the fans of the German stuff. More clickable solutions (like for example the safety lever on the stick, the 109 has it), better optics etc. And the pilot would look much better with correct net flight cap and correct late war goggles, a jacket according to 1944/45 and please, please remove the Knights Cross, there were only few KC holders flying the Dora in the last months of the war. Looks silly when every squadron pilot in a flight has this decoration. Isn't worth the effort? Then look what Heatblur does with the flight crew of the Phantom and how the DCS players like it ... there are often the small things which make the difference between good and WOW! My five cents.3 points

Anybody else play this stuff? I have the original 'Thunderbolt Apache Leader' from GMT circa 1991, and later relaunched by DVG. They also produce 'Hornet Leader' and 'Phantom Leader' which are solitaire games of moderate complexity, but very much in the spirit of our DCS modules and simulated Ops. They are good fun and if nothing more offer a way to expand understanding of tactics, ROE, threat systems and weapons employment. In more of a naval context, there is of course the classic Larry Bond's 'Harpoon', and the 'Fleet' series of games, which although mostly surface warfare based, offer an element of air action from carrier based assets and shore based MPAs. Harpoon of course evolved into the computer versions, which have been superseded by the excellent Command: Modern Operations, but it is nice to get the old, tactile feel of a physical game sometimes. There are others, 'Tac Air', and the more recent excellent 'Red Storm' and 'Baltic Approaches' add-on, which game out a 1987 cold war turned hot scenario in central Europe. Anyway, I thought there may be some DCS players who are not aware of this stuff who might find it interesting.3 points

Dear all, our apologies the changes only make it in now as they did not get pulled for the original patch by accident. The major addition of course is the TARPS pod - which for now is only a visual model. Later we plan on implementing some very basic/ rudimentary gameplay for it. With this we would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, and of course, as always, would like to thank you for your continued support and kind feedback. Your Heatblur Team DCS F-14 Tomcat by Heatblur Simulations NEW: Added TARPS pod for both F-14A and F-14B (visual model only) - gameplay features to follow NEW: Added boarding ladder to static and AI aircraft. Added TARPS loadouts. Adjusted loadout restrictions for TARPS pod. Fixed broken normals on both -A and -B3 points

I've had/still have the same problem. By the looks of it the latest patch introduced this viewAngleVertical which is set to 0.000000 and it seems as long as the default view has this is set to 0, it messes things up. When you enter a certain aircraft the first time since the last update, your default view is zoomed out by too much. All you have to do now is zoom back in to where you want it to be and save the default view with {RAlt + Num0}. After that, all seems to be perfect, like it was before this bug was introduced. I have tested it with the Spit and F-16 so far. All other SnapViews don't seem to be affected by this and do not need to be redone. All I wish now is that it would set this on all other aircraft to the appropriate level automatically so I do not have to set this manually for all.3 points

Is there any plan by ED of using Nvidia RTX IO or Gdeflate to improve IO perfomance and texture handling in DCS? In my opinion, (and as user with old CPU) anything that can offload CPU workloads is an improvement. Furthermore RTX IO (as per Nvidia docs) is compatible both with DirectX and Vulkan. https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/news/rtx-io-for-geforce-gpus-available-now/2 points

Sounds like you didn't uninstall older assets. As I mentioned before I actually spawned all my 100+ assets in a mission at the same time, without conflicts. I then went through the log and fixed irritating log errors, even non critical warnings. Dropbox servers are working overtime, we just passed 2 Terabyte downloads of the new packs.2 points

Do it. It is worth it, but be warned, I have >2800 hours logged on C:MO, and that is only since the upgrade from CMANO. God knows how much in total. It also makes you realise how much is missing from DCS in terms of assets and sensors. It literally has every sea, air and land unit from the end of WWII until the near future modelled, plus a full globe (including orbital assets).2 points

Thanks to @Rudel_chw and his gentle nudge I found a reasonable solution/workaround: Install https://github.com/iquercorb/OpenModMan (newer mod manager by the same author as OvGME). https://wiki.hoggitworld.com/view/OVGME if you don't have it (I didn't) for better management of mods that go to your DCS installation directory. I checked this video on why and how, there are probably others, but it is quite simple and useful. Good value proposition. It's not strictly necessary to use mod manager, but it's a good idea for cleaner mod installation and uninstallation (e.g. before DCS updates). Download https://github.com/Quaggles/dcs-input-command-injector mod, put it into the "mods" dir you created for OpenModMan and enable it. The rest happens in your Saved Games/<dcs> directory - which is a great thing. Create InputCommands\MiG-21bis\Input\MiG-21\mouse directory there. The first part (InputCommands) is the root of the "patches" that Quaggles input injector uses, the rest is the structure that copies the Input file structure under <dcs-installation>\Mods\aircraft. Copy the provided default.lua there. I added just a few commands I wanted, but you can copy anything from <dcs-install>\Mods\aircraft\MIG-21bis\Input\MiG-21\keyboard\default.lua - assuming the action is available for the keyboard. When copying, remove the binding (combos) part from the line, e.g. from: {combos={{key='NumEnter'}},down=iCommandViewAngleDefault,name=_('Zoom normal'),category=_('View')}, make {down=iCommandViewAngleDefault,name=_('Zoom normal'),category=_('View')}, It's OK to leave the trailing comma, don't worry. Example for clickable cockpit command: {down = iCommandCockpitClickModeOnOff, name = _('Mouse cursor cockpit mode'), category = {_('General'), _('Custom')}}, There are even projects providing some bindings, e.g. https://github.com/Munkwolf/dcs-community-keybinds/tree/main/InputCommands, but there is not much for MiG-21 mouse in this case. The provided file DOES NOT assign the actions to the mouse yet, although it can be done as well (providing the proper combos, I guess). However, now you can assign it in the DCS. The cell in the mouse column is enabled and can be assigned. Works very well and it's not such a hassle as I'd expect. On a side note, I was surprised that some modules (e.g. L-39) don't have any defaults for the mouse in the DCS installation directory, yet it works somehow. This is probably a mystery of a different implementation of those modules. default.lua2 points

They can be donated from C2 assets as MIDS surface points, much like you can see the ground designation of your wingman on the SA page. The C2 asset can create a surface point, and assign attributes to it (e.g. SA-10, hostile), and so the point will show a red 10, with a red, dashed circle. If the RWR picks it up and correlates it, the circle becomes solid. And because it's a MIDS point, you can TUC it and get relevant info, as well as hide it from the SA display subpage (which we don't have).2 points

Hi all, GMT is in and can be used, but also bear in mind the FCR is not a magic all seeing eye, it can be masked by terrain or buildings for example. You may also be in situations where you need to manually adjust the scan elevation to see targets. thank you2 points

It was a good opportunity to update the older code for the team, hope it will be useful for you. I dont want to derail Currenthill's thread, but we can not test unofficial mods in our debug / dev builds, we have to keep our builds vanilla, also we have way to much to test already with the core of DCS, our modules and 3rd party's. It is a good idea to remove all unofficial mods when you update, and then add them back once you know your update is working. If you do still have a problem it maybe be up to the mod creator to make changes, or if it is an ED bug / issue for us to look at, then it is best to post the issue in a bug thread. thank you2 points

Good news! With the latest DCS patch it looks like I have what I need to get the cruise missiles and antiship missiles fixed. I'm currently working on updates for the assets that needs it. Also very good news: ED (through excellent support by @BIGNEWY) delivered on their announcement of removing the hardcoded issues preventing AI helicopters from using trainable cannons and retractable gear. I will be making updates to the Ka-52 shortly.2 points

So sad to hear about @dburne's passing. My eyes are full of tears and my heart weighs heavy. Condolences and all the strength needed to his family in these dark hours. And to you Don: Blue skies and always a third wire. May you fly with the best up there! You will be missed here very much. cheers Don2 points
