  1. From FB: Welcome to another MiG-17F update. The team is working hard and continously with the current focus being on the MiG-17F systems and texturing. For this reason, today we would like to talk about one of those systems, the Radar Warning Receiver (RWR) Sirena 2 (SPO-2 / CPO-2) of the MiG-17F. The MiG-17F was equipped with an early RWR system that could only detect radar signals from the rear hemisphere. The RWR receiver is mounted on top of the tail fin assembly. Technical data: Range: 5 – 6000 meters Beamwidth: 50° vertical, 80° horizontal The RWR Sirena-2 gave the pilot an audio warning signal that the airplane was being painted by a radar (from the rear); the audio signals varied according to the distance of the radar impulses that hit the antenna (the distance of the radar behind the MiG-17F). Audio signals: 4 - 6 km: high-pitched, continuous sound 2 - 4 km: rising and falling howling tone 0 – 2 km: humming tone Control of the Sirena 2 is managed by the main circuit breaker on the right side wall, while the control panel is located on top of the main instrument panel, to the left of the ASP-4N gunsight. The control panel consists of a two-position power switch and two lights. The right light (red), indicated that the system was switched off. The left light (green), indicated that the system was on and operational. We also have some pictures for you of the latest texture work. As always, everything you see is Work In Progress. Enjoy, and thank you for your continuous support!

  2. Heya Everyone As the Kola map was released, I started to create a campaign (planning to release it also public) for choppers(for AH64, OH-58D at first + maybe some others too later). For this campaign, I need support ship + some more local equipment, so I started to model Nansen frigate and Skjold corvette. First question: Someone already modeling these? Before I go too much forward? Second question: I can handle the modeling side, but for defining the weapon systems in DCS, I may require some help. Any good templates for ships or any help to convert the 3D model to DCS Mod? I will publish any models I create for everyone and use in any way You like. I dont mind. I will post the Blender model too after I get something more done if someone wants to polish the model.

  3. I got the Layette reworked over the week. It will require the Admiral's Normandie frigate mod for the Exocet missiles. I hope to post in a separate thread later tonight

  5. This is exactly what I have found as well, after the update I have had to massively reduce the number of vehicles/ ground units for missions to run smoothly, Prior to MT the same missions ran smoothly with 1200 Units, then after MT had to slash the number to 750 or so, now its cut by HALF again !!! Something is seriously wrong with our Sim Slippa I agree with you, the updates are dragging the basic performance back badly. With ST I could run the missions I make with 1200 + ground units, and 30 + AI aircraft airborne....now its down to 30 Aircraft with 320 Ground units !!! This is Not progress...something has gone seriously wrong with the Core

  6. @GrEaSeLiTeNiN When i installed the mod i forgot to copy-paste the appropriate script on Saved Games/Scripts/Hooks Now it works like a charm. For the missing Minigun Doorgunner it is a known issue https://github.com/tobi-be/DCS-OH-6A?tab=readme-ov-file#dcs-oh-6a-by-tobsen--eightball

  7. "They", huh? Perhaps. Childish cheapskates will always exist. They steal towels, shampoo and cocktail umbrellas from hotels for fun. Some people think that they are "smart" that way and it's their idea of fun. Let them be. The fact that these people think that they are smart and are "gaming the system" or "beating the man" should not trouble you or the way that you are having fun. If these exploits start hurting the kind people at ED, I'm sure that they will think about limiting their exposure. Currently I believe that ED view them as a slightly annoying byproduct of a useful feature, like flies attracted to your cook-out. Then again, I wouldn't know, as a) I don't work for ED and b) Steam doesn't have free trials and c) I really couldn't care less about some freeloader who sneaks a few hours of Hook of Phantom time. Once they grow up, they either find another hobby, or become serious customers.

  8. Free trials are great and we have no plans to stop them currently. We wont let the ones who do cheat the system ruin it for those who use it correctly. thank you

  9. We have a few real missions already but the historical accuracy is limited by the range we have so we are relatively limited to Normandy preparations and raids around Paris launched from non lancaster airfields. I also did a startup and takeoff mission with the clickable promps and all the triggers but it probably needs some tidying with the new switches and systems added. One of the missions I have done so far is the raid on the wizern V2 plant, I would do custom assets but its pitch black nighttime raids from 20,000ft so there's little point for that one atleast. Chuck has said he is more than happy to help us out with a manual when we release We have quite a few pilots and engineers floating around our discord from nx611, pa474 and fm213 aswell as other museums with Lancaster bits. Ive spoken to PA474s pilots a number of times to get bits about how it flies and we have engine runs from in the cockpit from multiple lancasters nullone for good luck

  10. Long post, but it's important that we get this out of the way now. TLDR: If you get stuck and you think the triggers stopped firing, post a screenshot of the last few lines of the message history menu, and I'm happy to help figure out where it all went wrong. So just a few days after release, MIG Killers is shaping up to be a lot like the Speed & Angels campaign. And I take it as a compliment. It has had 2 kind of players: those who said it was the most realistic experience they had in a flight sim, and it taught them more about flying the Tomcat and military aviation in general than they could ever hope for, and otoh those who gave up after a few missions, blaming the triggers, the AI or the mission design for their poor performance. Just like Speed & Angels, MIG Killers was thoroughly tested by some players and none of them ever got stuck. Ever. You're not flying a Sopwith Camel over no man's land in 1917. I assume you bought MIG Killers because you want to experience what it was like to participate in the first Topgun course ever, in a study level environment. The word study entails paying attention, discipline, and learning. You either play along or you're not gonna have fun. I've already received a lot of suggestions that the mission design is too fragile, or unforgiving, so let me show you how "unforgiving" it is: When your instructor wants you to do an egg, he says: "OK, plug in the blowers and pull, let's point the nose straight up." I need to be able to rely upon you doing that. Straight up means 90 degrees of pitch, yet the next trigger will fire within a cone of 30 degrees of leeway. Surely I can expect you to be within that, you do have an attitude indicator in the cockpit with a large black dot indicating 90 degrees. Just put the thing on the thing. Or Nellis control will hand you off to Indian Springs Tower over nav point PIUTE. But I don't expect the player to overfly it exactly. You need to be within a 4 mile radius circle. That's an 8 mile wide zone. Surely you can hit that? It's not irrationally unforgiving is it? You think real life ATC would give you so much slack? BUT: Some players ignore explicit instructions, or choose to do a stored heading alignment, and due to the INS drift miss PIUTE by 6 miles, failing to double check using TACAN, or just feel like not turning on the landing light today. Everybody has a different 'meh I don't wanna do this', part, so at the end of the day I either make all 500 triggers per mission optional and skippable by introducing another 2000 in each, or you do what the mission tells you. Another example: Fam flight, loop: first the instructor tells you to start pulling up to 15 degrees of AoA. The second trigger fires when you're above 14 units of AoA or, as a failsafe, when you're over 80 degrees of pitch ( you should hit 15 units AoA before 40 degrees if you do it right). The instructor says: "Transition to 15 units of AoA, nice and smooth. Look back up to visually catch the horizon". Then, the next trigger fires as you go over the top, so pitch is between 0 and -60, and 6 seconds after the previous voice over in order not to overlap: Out of burner, let the g-s build up to 5 and keep it there. Then your instructor considers the loop finished 10 seconds after this voice over when you're flying straight and level again, less than 10 degrees pitch and bank. If you do it right, you feel like you have a real life instructor in the backseat coaching you through the maneuver. Very immersive. But if I cannot be sure you're gonna hit these very basic checkpoints throughout the maneuver, all I can do is tell you to go do a loop, and that's it. Not so much fun anymore, is it? Mission building is a very simple equation: the more things/ parameters the designer can assume, the more details they can introduce. The less things I can predict, the less triggers/ stuff I can set up. A free flight will never have so many voice overs because I wouldn't know if the player is doing loops over one place or bombing another. My campaigns are at the very end of this scale in favor of details. This campaign is full of extra "failsafe" triggers, in case the AI messes up, or something doesn't work out, to make sure it still progresses. But it does not, and will not have fail safes for the player ignoring explicit instructions. This campaign carefully explains what you need to do exactly, it has chalkboard drawings, and all the instructions are available in a pdf format under mods/campaigns/ MIG Killers/ doc. If you really must do something, a message will linger on your screen until you do just that. You either play along, or you don't, but it's your call what you make of this campaign. I realize it may have sounded like a rant, it's not. I'm 100% sure that this campaign will make everyone a better and more lethal F-4 pilot, and teach you tons about the Phantom and military aviation in general. I want you to succeed. But you need to do the work to get there, you won't get good by acting like a lawyer and negotiating why you didn't do anything wrong. Bottom line: post that screenshot, I'm here to help.

  11. Yep, I really like the old school version without all the extra armor. And the core game version is a bit lackluster.

  12. Yeah, I totally agree with this. Additionally, in going to monthly updates, we now have to wait until ED sees fit to push out anything that could fix the problem. In my opinion, making changes that break the game in a meaningful way for a large group of users, then expecting that they wait until mid-September for a fix is unreasonable and borders on ridiculous. It is only a video game, I get it, but my guess is that across the aircraft modules, terrains, and campaigns that I own, I'm pushing $1,500 USD spent on software alone, not to mention the state of the art supercomputer I have to have to run the game, the peripherals, etc. Sorry, but it is definitely a major frustration.

  13. When ED took the decision to merge stable and open beta, that was the kind of mess I was expecting. It's actually open beta for everyone, and all ED has to offer now is a broken sim. It will, hopefully, get fixed in a not so distant future. Then, there will be another update... Rinse and repeat.

  14. When will dedicated Servers use Multi Threading? Having 8-9 dedicated servers running on separate hardwares, we did have a notable FPS gain when upgrading one of our servers from AMD 3600x to 5900x. But it still seems really bad to have to use a CPU like that to be able to play on heavy missions when the CPU isn't actually being utilized with DCS running in single core..

  16. Theres a lot of models, vehicles and aircraft, that are shown in DCS promotional pictures and videos that have 3D models far more detailed that what they are in the game. It´s clear they have some kind of asset pack for better 3D models in the works. Thats fine by me, what I don´t like at all, is that they never say that those models used to advertise the sim, are not really in it

  17. And here it is... the long awaited CRV(T) replacement... the Ajax. It comes in three outfits: green, two tone and desert. I also added the two tone camouflage to the Boxer AFV in the German asset pack, which now emulates the British Boxer nicely. And I did the same with the M270 GMLRS. I even included the poor little guy getting replaced in the picture.

  18. As per the title, its pretty odd that a CARGO helicopters main item just teleports in or out instead of having an animation for loading/offloading. I think it would be neat to see actual ground crew operations doing cargo loading and offloading at airbases/airports and soldiers when operating in the field.

  20. In fairness, the OPs statement and need to publicly announce that he won't be buying the module comes across as a bit arrogant. He could find literally dozens of reviews of the flight model on youtube, reddit, the ED forums, etc, but these reviews, a couple of which are from actual Kiowa aircrew, aren't up to his standard?

  22. Re: The terrain stutter specifically, a frame-rate cap (applied externally ie from NVCP) + low latency ultra and vsync fast was going to be my suggestion to try and fix it. But I see you've already done all three now lol. That seems to work for me and some others, but not everyone reports success. I'm assuming it's something to do with the terrain render thread getting out of sync but that's just a guess. Yes, despite skepticism from some users, low latency mode does seem to fundamentally alter something for the better. At least in VR. I would also always recommend having an external frame-rate cap, ideally set in nvidia control panel. Just set to your headsets refresh rate. Vsync fast may or may not help as well.

  23. Trial fan boy here. Love the trials, keep the trials, the trials are great. I look forward to the six-month waiting period coming around and getting to try a plane again and see if I am still on the fence or if I want to buy it. I have the Mig-21 up for trial again and I'll fly it around for (another) two-weeks and see what's what. There is no reason to end the free trials and every reason to keep them.

  25. SC brings brand new technology to DCS and that takes time. We have reports for issues regarding the cats but it is often difficult to reproduce in our sessions, mostly due to some servers and scripts being used to spawn or cats getting activated and not used which mess the system up. We have some tracks showing issues and the new directors should help once ready. Im sorry that it is taking time to bring all the features to the SC but work is in progress. Please keep that in mind when giving feedback, the team is working as quickly as they can with the resources we have. Thanks edit: if you have fresh short track replays showing issues please pass them to me. thank you

  29. @IrishFatty Thanks for the great work! I'm moving along nicely on my livery. Just one question. Is it normal that some PSD files do not include a Dirt layer? As an example, the file for the bottom of the aircraft, tex05 have it's dirt layer but not tex07? Cheers and thanks again!

  31. After flying the F-16 for 6 months and getting pretty good at it, I tried the 2 week trial of the F-18 and I can say without a doubt the F-16 is simply easier with less steps to do what you want to. The DOGFIGHT switch saves your previous mode setup, meaning you could've been lining up for some bombing runs with TGP/WPN pages up, switch to A/A mode, kill the threat, then when you exit DOGFIGHT, your bombing run pages come back the way you left them. Targets of Opportunity are ridiculously easy. Push MARKPOINT, TMS UP long to get your helmet tracking a target, TMS UP twice and you've just created a Sensor Point of Interest. The flight models are also very different. The F-18 will not let you exceed 6G's at high speeds. The F-16 will let you pull as hard as your pilot will take. The F-16 will also not allow you to stall the plane as long as you have throttle. And the visibility! I love the F-16's glass bubble. It's visually a pleasure to fly with to actually see your surroundings. F-16 all the way.

  32. Thanks for the steer, I'd missed just how well documented this is etc. Boom! @Scoobyon and co: I'm sure it feels very early to be thinking about this, 'tho I'd argue it's as important to how professional a mod feels as the flight model etc, but have you any plan yet for documentation and/or tutorial missions and/or 'real' missions (*cough* campaign of a full tour, plus training and evaluation flights *cough*) to go with the Lanc when she's ready? Is it, perhaps, the sort of thing we sycophants could help with? A @chuck owl style guide/manual and an A4 Skyhawk-style kneeboard would help enormously with people not just downloading the mod, but wanting to use it when they fire up DCS. One hell of a lot of work though, so perhaps worth outsourcing? My other small-hours-of-the-morning-watching-Lanc-vids thought is whether you have been able to reach out to current Lanc projects (ideally pilots and flight engineers) for information on the feel of the real thing, to inform flight model/systems models? Again, is this perhaps something those of us in the UK or Canada could help with? Keep up the good work PS. Us punters, just be grateful I didn't volunteer us all to record voice lines for a Jester-style full crew!

  34. They are actually supposed to be quite difficult. Regarding mission 01: The success of the fighter sweeps is variable, but you may have to contend with bandits inbound to target. The choices are: 1. Out run 'em 2. Try to fight 'em Will your fuel allow you to plug the burners for a minute or two to get ahead? If so, do it. Help may be nearby, just maybe further away than you want. Buy some time if you can. Of course, a lot depends on who you are facing and what they're armed with. Know the limitations of your jet. There is no shame in choosing to avoid a fight, especially if it means you can put your bombs on target. If you have to turn and fight, than the enemy has already defeated your mission. Don't let them defeat you. As for SAMs, they can't shoot you if they can't see you. Use the terrain to your advantage. The route to the target is designed to shield you from the most nasty stuff, but you need to keep some rocks between you and the emitter. Mission 2 is specially designed to oversaturate you. Even flying an F-16 with datalink, you will find yourself overloaded. In an F-4 you will be drinking from a firehose. Keep you visual scan going. Adjust your vector often in case there is someone sneaking in for a shot. AWACS won't call out everything. Your mission is to keep the Tornado's alive. If AWACS calls bandits north of you, don't lose sight of the objective. -- And hey, it's designed to replicate a real Red Flag mission. If you get shot down, find out what happened, why it happened and try to avoid it in the future. I hope this helps.. Cheers, Sedlo

  38. Replacement lens arrived, and initial tests show it’s made a huge difference for me. I’d say the left lens is 98% better now. I can still notice a very small distortion, but it’s small and I have to deliberately look for it now. It’s not “in your face” (excuse the pun). I’d say I had a defective lens with my original unit. I also weighed both the old and new lenses and can confirm both are close to 52g, not 24g so both the old and new are both glass. Hope this is encouraging news to others. Honestly, it’s been a rough first introduction to Pimax, but they have proved themselves to me with the after sales support in getting this resolved, which at least to me speaks volumes. I do think their QC needs improving before they ship the premium crystal super with the premium price tag. For both lenses to not even be mounted correctly, and for the left to be this distorted without being picked up makes me think this never actually got checked at all. I’ll be interested to hear others experiences, and hope others have good success too.
