Hello all, Don’t mean to be annoying and bumping this thread but I never saw this one and I am honestly shocked to see this thread is so old already! The issue still persists to this day and is getting worse with every new module that is released! See: and: It would take less than an hour to run the script through a fully loaded (every module installed that is available) and it would reduce texture sizes by 60+ GB in total. This allows people to actually use high texture settings at high resolution and have all their cockpits readable since the older modules at medium settings are blurry. 4K 32bit textures are a total waste of resources if used for anything but the actual colour textures. And even then they would probably look just as good if they were compressed as DXT5 or similar saving so much memory both RAM/VRAM and disk space. Please have a look at this to try and improve and optimise the sim where it is sorely needed. @Flappie @BIGNEWY @NineLine It is not a handful of textures that are affected. There are hundreds of them that have to grown to ridiculous sizes that can be fixed in a matter of minutes using the script by @zbysiek Kind regards, Vincent van Veen12 points

Found a fix. It was the problem that the physics did not distinguish between hard surface over sea and sea. Comes with the next update6 points

I wonder whether this thread should be closed and a new one opened, with a nice introductory post recapping the status quo of the AIM-54 and its main features. This would help everyone understand where we are now and remove some recurring questions. No, I'm not volunteering.6 points

MILTECH-5 @Stachelhaut We have taken care of the ammo supplies and would like to show you the progress of our new static objects today. The picture shows a pallet of HOT missiles for the new DCS Cargo System to ensure the supply for the BO-105 with the CH-47F. We are also confident that we will be able to present you the first BO-105 flight with the new flight model in the next few weeks.5 points

Flag02004, what are you using as reference material? I went off what I had seen in the coding. m/s to me means milliseconds. So you're saying it's meters per second? Can you PM the information you're using? Thanks. ***Also guys please don't write too much information in the forum because I may get pinged for it by ED. Thanks.4 points

v1.1 update 2024-09-12 - Added F10 map marker for two transportable infantry squads v1.2 2024-10-06 - Repositioned a few objects, due to added buildings in Syria map update I wanted to improve my general Hook skills a bit, so I created this mission for myself. Halfway through, I decided to put a bit more effort into it and share it here for those interested. It's still a fairly simple mission, but a quick and easy way to practice the various Chinook shenanigans. (Use the F10 map to navigate and find where you need to go to. Initially I used smoke markers, but I removed them because they are way to big and block visibility) Download link:https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3340515/ - CHINOOK OPERATIONAL TRAINING MISSION - You will start at CAMP HERMON (Golan Heights, Israel, close to the Lebanon/Syria/Israel Tripoint) There are two CH-47's at your disposal (00_Player = hot start | 01_Player = cold start) In this mission you will be able to choose from several tasks, such as sling loading, internal cargo transportation and infantry insertion. Two infantry squads are available at Camp Hermon (check your F10 map) Enemy threats: Insurgent small arms and MANPADS Unless specifically instructed to, avoid flying in enemy airspace, or you'll risk getting shot at. Familiarize yourself with the map (the various locations are also indicated on the ingame F10 map) and follow up the task instructions. If you missed or forgot an instruction, you can use the "message history" option when you press Esc. Use the radio F10 menu, to select a specific task, or use the "random task" option. By completing tasks, you will earn points. Feel free to change your Hook's loadout, if desired. Creator Notes: - You can switch between the hot and cold start slots at any time, but doing so in the middle of a task, may cause issues with triggers (haven't fully tested that) - Any feedback is welcome3 points

Sir or Ma'am, As an old CH-47D/F PIC and MTP I can say I LOVE your product. Obviously it has a lot of work before the final product but I think you are well on your way to an awesome simulator. Here are some of my takeaways from my run through of the start up that you are probably already aware of but if not then I hope they help. Before I get started here, let me start with saying I have still not been given permission to reference my old CH-47F materials so I have purposely not done so. So everything I discuss here is going off nearly 10 year old memory or CH-47D manuals. So if you think you have better information on a topic I bring up all I can say is you are probably right! 1. DAFCS. I understand this is a work in progress. So take what I say here with a grain of salt and a lot of paitence. Currently what you have going seems to be a hybrid between AFCS on and AFCS off. With AFCS on the aircraft should maintain pitch, roll, and yaw attitudes and heading based off the last place you pressed the CDR. That is regardless of weather you have any type of holds or other advanced features engaged or not. Additionally, when flying in forward flight AFCS on should maintain your trim automatically. To put it simply, when I was yanking and banking I could do so with my feet off the pedals because the aircraft would keep the aircraft in trim for me. Finally, at a hover that thing is going to want to keep your exact attidue and heading again regardless of any hold features engaged. One of the checks we did for maintenance test flights was to push the aircraft out of their set postions WITHOUT pushing the CDR and ensuring the aircraft returned to the last selected attitude. Going off pure memory here. I want to say for pitch, roll, and yaw it was +-1.5 degrees. Though I may be off on that. You can reference the CH-47D MTF manual to get those exact numbers. Now, AFCS off you are going to have to work the pedals and controls to keep a good attitude and trim condition at all times. 2. CDR: The CDR doesn't appear to do anything. You all have a great system in the Huey which I would love to see mirrored in the -47! 3. Flight control sweep. Right now you have it set for max forward +6.5 and max aft -4.5. If I recall the CH-47F correctly the MINIMUM control sweep should have been +7 and -4.5. The CH-47D manuals said +7 to -4 but I seem to remember the CH-47F has a bit wider margin. 4. CGI: The CGI test button does not cause the CGI to do anything. Additionally, I did not notice movement of the CGI in flight. This guage should be a quick reference performance indicator. The heavier/faster/more agressive you fly the higher that needle raises. 5. In your start up guide there is no clear explaination on spooling up the EGIs, radios, etch. I seem to remember in the old 8.4 software of the CH-47F we had to go in manually to start all that stuff up. But I can not for the love of me remember the proper sequence. I can find that the EGIs need to be turned on in your simulator so I think there is something to my memory on that so anything you have on that added into the simulator startup guide would be appreciated (unless I completely missed it then I appologize)! Oh, I will say this too. I asked a buddy of mine who just retired a year ago to guide me through the start up of all the avionics and stuff and he said "Crap man, we were on such an later software then 8.4 when I retired. All that stuff is automatic now." So maybe that would be something to incorporate into your sim. Have all those EGIs and stuff auto spool up? Well, this is what I got for now. I hope some of it may be helpful. Either way, thank you for the consideration! And again, awesome job!3 points

I am running the Ultimate Performance power plan in Windows 11 (which is not available by default), but even then I have noticed windows updates messing with power settings without my consent (turning usb selective suspend back on for example). Microsoft does some shady backdoor stuff with their updates. Ideally I would configure Windows just the way I want it directly after installation and just leave it there, but it seems M$ wants to interfere with that - and tbh I no longer have the patience for hours of tinkering on a regular basis…3 points

So briefly I thought @Holbeachs workaround of reducing gpu load by reducing the aircraft textures was going to work for the mossie in vr. Untill it didn't. Then using his latest .miz file I thought he had performed some wizardry because for the first time ever the F-14 was faultless over port Stanley. But after flying for a long while then exiting and restarting the miz it finally failed. Then once that had eventually failed, I was able to replace that plane in the mission editor with every airframe I have and they all failed. Even the 'light load' aircraft that I thought did not have the issue. So now I am dispondent. All I can report with any certainty is that the problem does occur in the following modules in VR: Mossie, F-14, Harrier, F-15C, P-51, Ka50, Hind. With typically 30-40fps at med alt over port Stanley dropping suddenly with that fps step to 11 fps at low alt.3 points

Hi all, regarding user mods they should be free to use, to take payment requires a licence from EDSA. Donations are allowed, please remember that many mod creators have costs associated with hosting and put a lot of effort into being creative, so please be kind. thank you3 points

I can't tell you how many times I have "lost" my mouse cursor while in VR. I wiggle it around and it's nowhere to be seen. I catch a glimpse out of the corner of my eye and look over there, but no mouse cursor. Pretty please may we have a command to center the mouse cursor on screen in front of us? Also, how about an option to limit the mouse cursor to remain within the VR field of view. When I "lose it" it's most often outside my VR view. Thanks.2 points

Which is why the J makes the most sense, to me personally. The -B isn’t a sitting duck, but the J features the same technology reach as the published -E variants. An F-4B disqualifies Naval fans from using their aircraft competitively in late 70s / early 80s scenarios. A -J can be kitted out for Rolling Thunder by just equipping the early missiles, or loaded up with later all aspect Sidewinders and better Sparrows for post-Vietnam scenarios.2 points

Certain realism isn’t feasible or desirable to recreate on a PC game. Realistic visibility can be approximated though. And again the real world level of this is far lower than lots of players imagine. I think the preponderance of icons and dots in video games has convinced many people otherwise. What I see on my screen without any dots seems to equate to real life accounts. Depends. Some have this hidden. I kinda agree with that. I’m sure there are some people that do I’ve seen some SP campaigns where you can’t respawn if you’re dead And your career is finished if you kill a friendly. Realism in a sim doesn’t mean the game is a literal duplication of the real world, it means that it attempts to be a realistic game.2 points

Nick is correct My bad This was just a low poly model I ran across, and wanted in sim Wait for the Mil MI-17 Hip! She is a beauty! The Mi-8's second cousin! First removed!2 points

that other combat sim will get realistic visibility distances for external lights with their next major update, so maybe that will motivate ED to finally fix that big problem of DCS.2 points

As mentioned before. Tried it now, and it has completely removed the 20FPS below 900' for me. I do get stutters and slowdowns here and there, but not like before, and it quickly catches up back to "normal". Cheers!2 points

Thank you! Yes I mapped force trim on/off the proper mapping is "Force Trim Interrup" thank you thank you thank you!2 points

I will test this out now! I use a microsoft FFB 2. I know its outdated but it works great for every module except this and the chinook which ED got back to me saying it will be modeled. I know FFB2 is nearly an antique but its so nice to feel when youre in a stall, hydraulic fluctiations, true trim haptic feedback, pylons loading and the list goes on and on.2 points

When you have the power service disabled, you can't set powerplans - so probably it's running.2 points
-
The ultimate power plan is even worse in regards to latency. Per default (in all powerplans) the power service pushes IRQs every 15ms to monitor power requirements. There are ways to manually set this to 5000 ms (maximum) but it seriously way easier to simply turn this crap off.2 points

It would be extremely helpful if you could add a kneeboard page that is automatically updated every respawn with a list of users/flight group/aircraft and isn't needed to be added in the editor, just a basic function. While in SP this might not be as useful it is huge for MP. This would be extremely useful for MP comms. Most people don't know their flight group identification and being that the aircraft doesn't tell you who they are unless you have on labels (which most servers don't use and shouldn't) you have to go to the role page to find out who is who. A simple list of who is flying what in respect to the flight group is necessary for comms. For example Mav 1-2 - BO11 - F-18 User33 - BO12 - F-18 Pilot88 - BO13 - F-18 Check33 - EO11 - F-16 Delta3 - E012 - F-16 etc.. Separated by flight groups and aircraft.2 points

Works for me as expected. What kind of FFB device are you using? Just an idea - have you by any chance confused the trim bindings? Maybe you have bound the force trim on/off switch instead of the trim release button? (Sorry I don't know the precise labels from the top of my head, but essentially there is a switch on the center console which activates or deactivates the force trim system entirely)2 points

Yeah, a FAQ would be great with first candidates: Q: Why can't my Phoenix go even near Mach 5? Q: Why can't my Phoenix go even beyond 10nm? New thread will probably be created with next iteration ("API").2 points

The problem is that the new VR spotting has taken the fun out of things for a lot of us. It's currently a lot easier to spot in flatscreen than it is VR, that can be tested fairly easily by swapping between the two on the same settings on some spotting mission tests. I assume that the changes were not made with the intention that VR players should find it far harder to spot than flatscreen players, but that is the state of the game for a lot of us atm. For me if I can't see a damn thing (as things currently stand) it is no longer a fun experience period, as a result I have stopped playing almost entirely. I understand that some people may enjoy the reduced spotting, but from my perspective I would rather those players have an option to enable that playstyle for themselves rather than force the current lack of visibility on everyone else.2 points

Thanks for the tip! Successfully completed that mission last night by opting for the tail fuse which I noticed in the mission planner has a preset delay. Either the cone plugs are not necessary for penetrating hard targets or the command post was soft enough. Shame that this small fusing update has caused so much confusion and indeed borked some built in training missions and so on, but that's DCS I suppose @Sedlo Truly, fantastic campaign. I understand there's some complexity in why it was released for free rather than as official DLC but like, it's got great VA, mission design is interesting, it strikes the right balance of authenticity and fun, and most importantly—you're still out here actively maintaining it, unlike so many DLC campaigns that are riddled with issues and no longer actively supported (cough, rising squall, *sads*). Is there any way I can venmo/ko-fi/paypal/etc you a few bucks for Bold Cheetah? Goodness knows you've earned it2 points

I'll take a look. Don't know at the moment, we'll see. I'm currently working on updating the Swedish pack. I haven't planned to add these ships, but I've planned to add Zumwalt. I have an okay understanding of the Lua programming language, then I just study EDs code. Yeah, I would like to add more, but there are some issues, more countries means more asset packs to maintain, and it's not always easy to find 3D models for assets from certain countries. I'm currently updating the Swedish pack, after that we'll see were I go next.2 points

Whichever way you cut it, with the aircraft in a paywall along with your other non-DCS projects (that people looking for your Su-57 may not necessarily be interested in), it still results in people having to pay a monthly subscription to gain access to the Su-57's download link. I admire the work that you do, and I respect the things that you do, but something just doesn't sit right. Nevertheless, I think that it is up to forum admins and ED staff to determine whether what you're doing is allowed or not.2 points

AviaStorm On this day of August 14th 1974 the Tornado made it's first flight from Manching in Germany. Crewed by Paul Millett and Nils Meister the Panavia Tornado first tookoff at 17:21 with the flight lasting 33 minutes. This marked the start of one of the most successful multinational fighter jet programs of the cold war. We are very excited to be bringing this iconic aircraft to DCS, and are looking forward to sharing more very soon.2 points

Took a couple of hours trawling through mods, coremods and bazar. I do have all modules, and my computer is slow. It makes a mod actually. But because it's 60GB (Saves 150+), and I don't want to waste space (backup) and writes with an ordinary mod manager, I started using SLAM that just creates symlinks. Bartek's Caucasus mod takes two seconds to apply. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3339453/ Cheers!1 point

Currently more than 2400 players on standalone DCS plus over 800 on Steam. I can't see any trend here related to spotting updates. https://steamcharts.com/app/2237501 point

Everything you don’t need. The fewer processes running, the better. Every third party app you don’t positively need. (Most won‘t have much or any impact, but keeping it tidy certainly does no harm). Check your autostart folder and task scheduler as well.1 point

Problem stays even if I choose no smoothing at all, and no Anti aliasing at all. Problem doesn't seem to be graphic connected. If I host small skirmish of 6 planes for friends I see everything perfectly. Problems start after I add some more ground objects. It's not Anti aliasing or any other type of smoothing connected problem.1 point
