@tobi @Eight Ball I figured I would start posting all my Cayuse videos here as well as our thread so you see how prevalent your module has been to the community. I stopped posting on here because I did not want to take up thread space with our content, but after the scuttle with some unappreciative community members, I want you guys to see your hard work at play and know that this is our weekly Helo that keeps the Jungle alive on our server as well as the dedicated servers people are putting up with our mission and your helo. You have literally turned single player virtual pilots into multiplayer scouts. DCS Afghanistan and Iraq need the same thing with the Little Bird. Dont give up on us gents!5 points

Wags latest video mentioned that they had enough data to produce a UH-60L right now, but were waiting for the data on the UH-60M. This is post 2006, had more power and a glass-cockpit. and is probably a better fit for the AH-64 and OH-58s we have and will work better in GWOT scenarios. However, I don't know why there seems to be an assumption that customers want the 'latest and greatest' versions of everything, when the older models are often more versatile, have a more storied history, and are generally more fun (or challenging) to fly. Perhaps I'm alone in this, so I thought I'd pop up a poll to see if the forumites agree with ED on this approach.3 points

If the basket went right through the probe, then once again you're doing things wrong. Typically if the probe is going through the basket you either haven't CLEARED CONTACT or you're attempting to connect to the wrong basket (in DCS the LEFT basket always has to be occupied 1st, so if the tanker has 2 baskets and you go to right with no one cleared on the left it will go through it as if it wasn't there).3 points

This is sad to hear. I hope you guys finde passion in whatever it is you are doint now. Thank you for your hard work and passion @tobi and @Eight Ball. Love all the mods. In fact the only mods I use apart from currenthill. Now, let me just quickly speculate on something, if I may. Matt anounced a new helicopter. Could it be? Just sayin'.3 points

Hello all, I'm editing a training mission about radar employment, and I have noticed that the radar "sees" the radar contacts before I actually activate them. On this image, I've just turned on the radar and it already shows contacts ... the funny thing is that the contacts do not exist yet, as I have not reached the mission point where I will activate the corresponding aircraft: Here is how the intended contacts are defined: And these is the trigger where I activate them, after I've done the radar self-test: Does anyone knows of a work-around for this bug that I could use? I wan't to keep the contacts out until I'm ready to introduce them into the training. Thanks a lot for any help with this, Eduardo2 points

Yeah, the loss of both Tobi and Eight Ball, and the loss of the MH-6 is nothing short of a tragedy for the entire DCS community. The MH-6 was so eagerly anticipated by so many. It really is devastating. Especially given the volume of work that was already done for this. I sincerely hope that after some time off and a bit of fresh air both of them return with high spirits and continue their amazing work. I really hope they manage to see just how many positive and thankful people there are for their work, as opposed to the few muppets that were involved in them burning out and loosing motivation through this all too frequent social media effect - 100 positive comments are forgotten easily but the 3 bad comments stick like glue. There's no way those who were involved in them losing motivation and getting frustrated even account for 0.5% of users. Personally I'm so devastated over this. This was one of my most anticipated DCS modules/ mods. It's totally heartbreaking. Feels like Razbam all over again. @tobi @Eight Ball Please let us know as a community what we can do to help get things back up and running again2 points

Virpil tech support is really, really good. It's Sunday here and Gleb helped me troubleshoot the issue with my throttle. Based only on my description of the issue and some photos, he told me what he thought the issue was, and told me how to verify it using the debugging tool in the configurator. Looks like I'll be replacing the cable that connects the right-hand throttle to the main board. He also provided a video on how to replace the cable. Somehow, that cable causes all buttons to stop functioning and the LED lights to remain on all the time. I truly could not expect a better or more timely response. The problem started last night, and I submitted the ticket at about 10:00 p.m. I received a reply at 4:51 this morning, and started working on the problem at about 9:00 a.m. In less than 2 hours, Gleb diagnosed the issue and explained how I could verify it. This is an example of truly world-class support that I wish others would emulate.2 points

Only within Tacview for watching it again inside Tacview. Absolutely nothing can allow you to start a mission from a fixed point-in-time. What you could do--but which might go spectacularly wrong--is load a DCS Track file and replay it up to the point-in-time when you want to take control again. When at the point when you want to take over, press <Esc> and in the menu, click on [Take Control]. This will put you into the cockpit and give you control over your aircraft. Only works with SP missions. You can only run that last mission you started, unless you save it manually at the end of the mission, or before you start a new SP mission, rename the 'LastMissionTrack.trk' file in 'c:\Users\username\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Tracks\' to some other useful name, otherwise it will be overwritten. In the main menu, select Replay and then select this file to replay. The problem is in what track files actually record. They record every control input you make from start to end, and everything the AI did with AI units. The problem is that the calculations are so complex when flying or when running the replay, that over time it is almost certain that some minor variations slip into the way your aircraft actually reacts to inputs, and minor variations build over time into huge major variations (butterfly-affect), like instead of you pulling up in time on a bombing run, your replay aircraft instead noses straight into the ground. Been-there-done-that. You can try it, but I make no guarantees of success. PS When you take over, be sure to set all your controller lever and switch settings to exactly they way they were at the point-in-time when you take over, otherwise you may immediately experience catastrophic... experiences, like when at mach 1.15 your landing gear suddenly drops. Good luck2 points

Well, about airliners I haven't the faintest, but GA aircraft has happened, don't know if "many" times, but it happens from time to time. I recall someone having a flight with a friend and the friend fainted (you know like the joke, but it wasn't a joke) and ATC, or more probably some pilot, in the radio managed to take him back to ground. Here in my city actually it happened to an ULM not so many years ago. A local couple was having a flight and the husband died from heart attack. ATC managed to bring the wife back to ground just with radio instructions even though she hadn't any idea about flying despite her husband being a private pilot. Of course the great thing is she managed to connect and talk throw the radio, and ULM have no need or obligation to have a radio, even less they are allowed to use it among regular traffic, but she managed to do so and ATC led her by radar to the city airport so she could have a better chance (3000m/10000ft long RWY, you know), and I know she had a hard time (not to mention having your dead husband's body sitting on your side) but she made it. So airliners, dunno, but GA aircraft yes and it's happened. I'm sure there are even more stories about that out there. So, yeah, this.2 points

It isn't complete just yet (there's a few things like NAVAIDS and airspace to do, as well as more completed electrical grid - I apologise for the long wait), but here's the full thing as it currently stands. When it's properly finished, I'll likely put it in a separate post. Kola Map Locations.kmz2 points

Nope - you shouldn't be looking at either when connecting - you need to pick a reference in your cockpit and pick a reference on the tanker and make the 2 meet. For the KC-130, when connecting to the left: For lateral positioning I fly to place the heading caret somewhere between touching the left side of the propeller disc of the #1 engine to halfway between the #1 engine's nacelle and the refuelling pod (ideally it would be somewhere between, but the tolerance is such that aligning it either or should result in contact). For vertical positioning try and align the top of the HUD glass with the propeller disc of the #2 engine. This one is a bit difficult because it depends on your exact head positioning and how far forward/aft you are. For this image, I've recentered the view, having your head slightly higher may change the sight picture somewhat, but the basket does give some room for imprecision, but this should give a general gist of the sight picture. See the spoiler below for the same image, minus the annotations. I've also included the default head position and coordinates I have on my end. AV-8B_KC-130_AAR1.trk2 points

I think all the aircraft are easy or difficult in their own way but the skill mostly transfers between them. The A-10 seems easy to me because: - You have a nice symmetrical view of the tanker with an easy sight picture. - It’s a docile plane to fly. - Booms in general are easier to get connected with as the operator does some of the work. On the difficult side the only things I can come up with are: - More controls. ie the need to reset the disconnect. - Manual trimming vs automatic like the Hornet. - The probe is more difficult to stay connected with compared to a basket. - Maybe the fact that you can easily see the boom in front of you is distracting and encourages you to try looking at it. In hindsight I find myself thinking the A-10 is quite easy. It was the first one I learned on so that perspective is quite skewed as it took me a solid two weeks of practice. The other aircraft I learned later on were easy because of my practice on the A-10.2 points

There is no such thing as a “perfect throttle position” You should manipulate the throttle the same way you do when driving a car when maintaining a constant speed. On and off of it continually in small increments. Also there is a lag to the engines, by the time you see yourself going too fast you’re giving too much throttle and vice versa. With enough practice you can learn to predict this.2 points
-
I know you haven't damaged it because DCS doesn't model that damage. I'm saying if they did model it you'd be here screaming about that fact because you'd have had to restart the mission every time you do overspeed and put the boom through your windshield so you'd have probably only had time to do 1/2 the attempts you have so far. Should ED improve that part of the damage model? Heck yes! Wouldn't bother me in the least. But that's because I don't push the boom into the plane. And in the grand scheme of all things DCS it's a pretty minor one to worry about considering how much time is spent in AAR.2 points

I’m referring to the basket variant with that comment, obviously. You aren’t keeping steady enough in the right position for this to be accomplished. Watch some videos that show you were you need to be. Also in one attempt there you called “ready” too far away and the tanker replied “return pre-contact” not “clear”. You need to be closer to call “ready” This has been said many times but again, don’t look at the probe. You should be literally trying to watch the nozzle connect. If you hold position in the right spot the operator will connect it. But don’t look at the boom, look at the tanker and fly formation off that. It’s not the Pinky switch on the throttle it’s the “pinky” or actually the NWS button on the stick that does this.2 points

If you have how many tons of aircraft pushing against that small of boom you really think something isn't going to break/bend even if it's moving slowly against it? Yes it's the A-10 pilots fault. YOU destroyed the tanker by overspeeding into it. As mentioned above the boom as 12 ft of extension in it. If you can't keep your aircraft within that distance of the tanker there is ZERO chance you're ever getting near a tanker, let alone being cleared to take fuel, IRL. I did the math: if you're overtaking at 1 kt, you're moving forward at 1.7 FEET/sec. If the probe was fully extended to 12 ft, it would take you 7 seconds to push it fully back in. At 2 kts it's 3.5 sec. And since it starts at 6 ft you're between 3.5 and 1.25 secs of reaction time (at 1-2 kts). If you can't meet this reaction time, save yourself the aggravation and move on from DCS. As lots of others have said, this is not a DCS problem, it's a problem on your end (either the person behind the stick or hardware fidelity). Stop obsessing about the fact that boom ends up in the cockpit. If it was modelled correctly you'd have been crushed, your aircraft and the tanker both damaged massively and you'd be screaming that you had to keep restarting the mission. The tanker can only move the boom so far up/down/forward/backwards, so NO they CAN'T keep it out of your cockpit. I suspect that IRL before it ever got near going through your cockpit they would be SCREAMING at you, they would be taking radical evasive maneuvers and you'd likely be instantly grounded on RTB.2 points

It would be nice to have the choice of using actual "aviation units" instead of just metric and imperial (even though the imperial isn't completely imperial in DCS). I'm thinking about ME and F10. So what is "aviation units" ? By aviation units I mean the actual de facto standard that is in use internationally, and also in NATO. This requires a bit of explanation. ICAO has since ages ago defined to use the metric system in aviation, SI units. The problem is that nobody cares, and more and more countries are in fact starting to use the de facto "aviation standard". This includes countries who previously have used imperial and countries who previously have used metric. What this means is that: Speed - knots Altitude - feet Distance - nautical miles Flight level - feet (thousand, standard atmosphere) Rate of climb - feet/minute Temperature - degrees C Atmospheric pressure - hPa (AKA mbar) Wind speed - knots Visibility - meter and so on Metric and imperial, as exist in F10 and ME aren't used anymore, anywhere. There are some variations from place to place. Some countries use imperial for a few units, other countries use metric for a few units and so on. Some are specific for a certain part of aviation also. For most of it, this list is pretty much the standard today though.2 points

I support the wish, but your above affirmation is simply not true: Feb/2025: 2 updates Jan/25: 1 update Dec/24: 3 updates Nov/24: 2 Oct: 3 Sep: 1 etc Sorry to nitpick, but inventing facts to support our wishes rubs me the wrong way.2 points

Stop saying impossible. It might be impossible for you but not for the rest of people, even for those that don't have VR. It's difficult but not impossible. For the 1000th time, if you find the boom or basket inside of the cockpit, you are in the wrong position. More steady than you currently are. But that is only for connection. Once you are connected, you have a bit more playroom. The boom can move about a total of 20 degrees up and down (10 up and 10 down from normal position) and you got about 12 feet that the boom can retract and extend (6 feet up and 6 feet down from normal). No, the boom will NOT keep you in place. It is not strong enough to fixate you. It is your responsability to remain within limits, and if you exceed them, you get disconnected. Your "slightest deviation" are usually very large deviations. If you manage to push the boom all the way into the housing, that is NOT a slight deviation. As a matter of fact, if you have the boom inside of your cockpit, you are wayyy out of the movement limits of the boom, and that is definitly not a slight deviation but a so big one you exceeded the limits. The only error from ED is that it doesn't collide with your aircraft and damage you or gets unusable because you pushed the boom way into the housing into the tanker itself. The fact that you keep finding the boom inside of your cockpit is an error from your side, quite clearly. The button you are looking for is the NWS Steering Button. It resets the refueling door connection.2 points

MSI Afterburner has known issues with the 9800x3d (you can google it also), where it causes stutters due to slow reading of sensors on this CPU. In all fairness, many measuring solutions have the same issue. As people tend to run these solutions in parallel to their normal day to day use, I just want to make you guys aware that that can be already the cause of your stutters. Can you send your dcs.log please, while recreating the issue. Thanks. This is an interesting comment of the developer of MSI Afterburner about the issues btw:2 points

Can you go through the AI units and remove the radio reports from the waypoints options? I have AI reports disabled in the audio settings but still getting spammed by reports. It's cutting through the voice acting. Preset the radio freqs so we don't have to cycle through after take off. Or utilize the cpg AI to input them. I'm flying with the kneeboard up and the comm page most of the time ready to go. Minus that so far so good2 points

If its the cobra i hope its the Ah1W not the Ah1F. Whiskey can still use TOW's for those who want an olderschool missile, but it can carry the Hellfires too. Plus wingtip Aim9's or AGM122 sidearm.2 points

So today was a quick test "literally" of how the bombers will attack Andersen in an alert F-4. What I did not expect was how close Kandy put them to Andersen for the test and also that he snuck an escort Mig-21 in there. The outcome as you can guess did not turn out in my favor. I did not even have time to arm, but damn cool takeoff and successful test of a very cool implementation on the way.2 points

The UH-60L would be a good fit too, because it would fit into both 1991 and 2003+ Iraq wars, or even a later. I'd rather have the L.2 points
-
It might not be, but it's pretty obvious why someone would jump to that conclusion. You really need to start seeing your own limitations, instead of constantly ignoring every single piece of advice (from people who know what they are doing, and are trying to help you!), and then blaming everyone else when you aren't able to do something. All of your "bug" reports seem to boil down to a) that you haven't understood how a thing is supposed to work, and b) you refusing to listen when someone tells you that you are doing x, y or z wrong.2 points
-
Or why not both? First the L, then, once ED has enough data to do the M, release that as well (similarly to Black Shark 1,2,3, A-10C/ A-10C II).2 points
-
It is, or was, a great feature for many things. However ED seems to have forgotten it. I mainly used it to control wingmen when they AI couldn't figure out how to do a task properly. The key to this was that the feature used to make your plane follow assigned waypoints when you jumped out of it. At somepoint either intentionally or due to a bug this changed to fly straight back to the point where you took off. Now if you try to manually control your wingmen to make up for AI limitations, your plane will light burners and fly back to base wasting your fuel and putting your plane who knows where. I filed a report here: But it has been quiet. I've never used it to refuel but, assuming your plane doesn't RTB, I think it could be used for that if there was a refueling waypoint in your route.2 points

The only thing I've been able to find online it this: https://www.admiraltytrilogy.com/read/USF-74_Tact&Doct-Acft_V1-CV-Acft_194103.pdf. it's from 1941 but it might be relevant to later war operations. There is also this: http://www.battleofsaipan.com/Nstark000101.htm which is a short narrative from a late war Hellcat pilot. It doesn't have much operational information but does give a feel for what kinds of missions they were flying in the pacific in early 1945.2 points

One reason why it's a waste of time to ask AI anything. Rb71 is the Skyflash, Viggen never carried the US version of Sparrow. I wish people would stop posting AI "answers", because they'll come up in search results.2 points

Hi, thanks for your response! I am aware that both airfields have unpaved runways. In DCS, however, it looks like a bug because the blurry satellite photo that goes as a "runway" doesn't match the rest of the aerodrome neither in pattern or in quality. And the taxiways are abruptly cut without any transition. Maybe try making runway more pronounced by adding a semi-transparent detail overlay? And/or make aprons and taxiways semi-transparent, so their underlying photo background could better blend with the runway.2 points
-
I seriously suspect that you are totally inventing the facts that sustain your suspicions ... there is absolutely no reason to sit on a finished module and not release it as soon as possible. DCS is very much an always in-progress platform, so over the 3-4 years that a Module may need to fully develop, it is entirely possible that these small development teams probably have to redo some aspects of the Module not just once but several times, leading to missed development time-tables. As I have not yet paid a single penny for either of them, I choose to not even worry about it ... instead flying something else within DCS.2 points
