  1. Hey everyone I've been working on a full-fidelity Piper Cub mod, specifically the WWII L-4A variant, for quite some time. Now that it's getting close to completion, I figured it was time to share it with you all. I started this project because I wanted to learn about aircraft physics and flight modeling, so I chose the simplest aircraft that came to mind, thinking I would just write the EFM and use a free 3D model as a stand-in. Eventually, I got tired of looking at ugly models and decided I wanted to take a stab at 3D art, so I ended up creating a 3D model, textures, and animations to go along with the EFM. Currently, the Cub mod features a fully custom EFM that uses a blade-element theory approach to model aerodynamics. This method divides the aircraft's wings, tail, fuselage, propellers, and other surfaces into multiple components and calculates the lift and drag forces acting on each aerodynamic component. These forces are then summed up to produce the total force acting on the aircraft every frame. This approach is really cool because of its simplicity and how it naturally captures complex flight dynamics that occur at high angles of attack, such as spins or snap rolls, without relying on large datasets stored in lookup tables. The EFM also includes a realistic simulation of the Continental A-65 engine and propeller, including effects like p-factor, gyroscopic precession, and propwash. While my primary focus has been on the flight model, I've also taken some time to make sure the model looks decent and is realistic to the L-4A. I chose this particular variant so it can be used in various WWII scenarios, whether early or late in the war, and it will have skins appropriate for the ETO, PTO, and MTO. Additionally, I've included some M1A1 Bazookas, so it has at least a bit of firepower, and we can recreate the exploits of Bazooka Charlie. Some parts of the 3D model are still WIP, but here are some pics of the current state of the Cub.

  3. On behalf of ESVH, we cannot thank you enough for supporting us in this way. We truly appreciate the community; it has always been warm and welcoming. This mention in the news article will no doubt create a massive interest in this fundraising effort and help us get into the new building, hopefully much quicker. On completion, this should get up to 25 UK veterans off the streets and into secure accommodation with full support for up to two years at a time. Special thanks has to go to OzDeaDMeat he has worked tirelessly on this in the background as have many others who I will thank tomorrow. Once again, thank you all for your support it means the world to us. Regards Paul.

  7. The victory by North Vietnam over South Vietnam in the American war was celebrated a few days back in Ho Chi Minh city: Let's not forget about the massive problems that this victory brought, from the boat people fleeing the country over the sea, to today's human trafficking, which still targets the poor areas of Vietnam. If you enjoy this mod and if you have a dollar or two to spare, consider donating at https://bluedragon.org/ Cheers, TeTeT

  8. No way. The pack is more likely a prototype, proof of concept. Tons of animations to be added. And DCS standards are not implemented.

  12. Hi Guys, Many thanks for your support. To Urbi: I don`t think that this would be a nice idea because with every model your have pivot points you dont know and you have to adjust, sometime geometry that blocks when you try mechanical animations and size problems overall plus: you never know the rights. So I better do it by my own and still having all rights so that later I can hand it over to the community withous any kind of legal problems. But yeah: nice model indeed. And I´m a very big fan of low poly - I know- that`s the mindset of an old guy with wake hardware. But I think when you see a well made model with good textures - that can look awesome - Like ED original FA-18 out of LockOnDays. That model is just brilliant. That (!) with just 5000 polygons ...wow! Flanker1 - Oh yes- That reminds me on my childhood. In special the aereal shoot - That is looking brilliant- like real. Yeah - I realized that RAZBAM wanted to present a MiG23. And we still have the old model - good but with limited texture options. And in fact the MiG23 is one of the most important jets we should have available in the Cold War szenario because it was the main oponent against Phantoms, Eagles and early F-16`s. So- Gearbay and Weels are textured. Next will be the front gear and then I have to model the wings. I have a deep respect about the flap system - that will be a hellish job for sure ... Cheers TOM

  13. This issue was discussed at length a few years ago. TWS has resolution limits, which is why the other radar modes can break out a group of aircraft flying in close formation and TWS can't. When you see a contact on the TID in TWS it's not a radar return, it's a TWS track file. That's the WCS computer looking at the raw radar returns and calculating not only where the contact is but also, based upon how it is maneuvering, where it will be in the future so it can guide an AIM-54 missile onto it (this is the part that RWS doesn't do, which is why it can't guide an AIM-54 and also why it doesn't have the same resolution constraints because it has much less processing to do). Due to the computational power of the AWG9/WCS there are limitations on what can be processed, which means aircraft flying close together get lumped into one track file. Here's a link to the original discussion, it's explained better in here than I can. it's only 2 pages and definitely worth a read.

  17. UPDATE v2.5 New update is up - fixed pilots texture bug, thanks @Urbi for pointing it out. Completely reworked engine SFM data - now it should be more realistic, although needs more testing, maybe adjustments will be needed in the future. Added more powerful radar - seems like DCS caps detection range at around 320km, so I can't make it find targets even further. If there are any (realistic, not "can't hit 3000km/h in this thing") suggestions regarding flight performance you notice while flying, I'm open to hear it, it's hard to gather a lot of flight data alone, and as I said, new SFM engine code is a little bit different from the previous one but much better and more detailed. It means that there's more stuff that can be adjusted, and that needs time and data.

  19. Currenthill Assets Pack We are excited to announce a new partnership with Currenthill, which will bring many of his outstanding ground vehicles, aircraft, and ship AI assets to DCS. Currenthill is well known in the DCS community for his excellent mod packs and these AI assets will be added to the Core engine free for all of you to enjoy. A huge amount of work has gone into integrating the assets; creating Levels of Detail; generating IR textures; adding desert, woodland and winter textures; creating damaged and destroyed models, and more. In parallel, we are creating new weapons like the Iskander, ATACMS, and IRIS-T SLM missiles to support these new assets. Some assets will also add new capabilities such as the IRIS-T surface to air missile system that features active radar-guidance paired with infrared-guidance; this makes it a deadly adversary. This first set of Currenthill assets will include the FV101 and the lightweight FV107 armoured vehicle for your South Atlantic missions; the Tor M2 and Pantsir S1 for short range and air defense systems; and enhanced Russian Main Battle Tanks (MBT) like the T-90A and T-90M. 20. They are known as the kings of mining slag heaps, rising up like pyramids and popularly known as “Monte Kali” or “Kalimandscharo”. These imposing slag heaps, which reach heights of up to 250 meters, can be seen from afar thanks to their often bright white, light grey or, more rarely, reddish color. Many of these slag heaps have been or will be extensively renaturalized in the coming decades - some will be partially removed or planted with vegetation - but all the slag heaps listed below were visible in their full glory and unwooded during the Cold War (see also Google Earth images). While potash mining continued in the Federal Republic of Germany, East Germany experienced a wave of closures of many potash mines after reunification. In West Germany, the systematic renaturation of waste rock piles began in the 1980s, but was only implemented on a large scale in the 1990s. The main aims of these measures were to reduce the environmental impact of salt deposits and to integrate the waste tips into the landscape in the long term. Interestingly, many slag heaps that have not (yet) been renaturalized remain completely unvegetated. This is mainly due to the high salt content of the material, which makes plant growth extremely difficult. Salt extracts water from plant cells, so that hardly any vegetation can thrive. In addition, the natural leaching caused by precipitation means that the surrounding soil is also salinated. The steep slopes of many slag heaps also make spontaneous greening practically impossible. Only through targeted renaturation measures - such as the application of a suitable layer of soil - can artificial greening be successfully implemented. Today, the mountain has a different green-yellowish color, as both the base material for the greenery and special protection against wind drifts have been applied. More information and pictures of Germany's potash dumps: https://www.ruhrgebiet-industriekultur.de/kalihalden-in-deutschland/ https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monte_Kali I noticed it during a flight around Wunstorf. A very conspicuous, high and wooded ground elevation with associated industry seemed unnatural in this region, which is known for its flatlands. Those familiar with the area know that such a slag heap should actually be almost dazzlingly white here. Such a striking location that is recognizable from afar could be particularly helpful for visual flights. Perhaps Ugra could make some improvements! 21. Disclamer: Super Etendard is naval and air-ground strike aircraft. I think this awesome carrier based jet with anti-ship capabilities is just must have for Cold War fighters period. We can not use Viggen as SE, because its ground based and can not aerial refueling. And, yes, this is very worthy jet after all. Some types of weapons of the French Super Étendard deck attack aircraft (wiki): Built-in guns: two 30 mm DEFA 552 cannons with 125 rounds of ammunition per barrel. Anti-ship guided missile: Aérospatiale AM 39 "Exocet". It weighed over 650 kg and was equipped with a penetrating high explosive warhead weighing 160 kg. AS-30 missile, which uses MCLOS guidance via a radio command link between the aircraft and the missile. Air-to-air missiles: "Magic" or "Sidewinder". SNEB non guided rockets Bombs: weighing 250 and 450 kg. ASMP missile with a nuclear warhead (variant 1000 kg, warhead weight 300 kg, 100 ktn, launch range 100 km). The AN52 bomb weighs 455 kg and has a capacity of 15 ktn. Outboard fuel tanks: 625 liters and 1100 liters, as well as an in-flight refueling system (capable of refueling other aircraft). Operators: France, Argentina, Iraq I know, somebody will say that its not good aircraft because it has not very big speed. But when I tried to reconstruct Falkland campaign, I was totally confused. I add Mirage F1 as Mirage 3, Harrier w/o TGP for cosplaying Harrier Gr. mk3, A-4 mod cosplaying itself, but the most difficult thing was to find aircraft that will cosplay Super Etendard. Viggen has a bit more speed but his radius is very low and depends on distance from ground base. Impossible to use as good anti ship aircraft from carrier. Super Etendard can do long range missions with AAR from another Super Etendard (as they did during Falklands conflict 1983) and take off from supercarrier. If this is not ultimate capabilities for this class of aircraft, then who can the same? I think that this fact just killing South Atlantic map from its release. This conflict impossible to cosplay without Super Etendard. *in modernise version it has Damoclus TGP Thank you.

  25. Hello, I noticed that the image on the mirror is of very low quality. Compared to, for example, the Mirage 2000C, it doesn't look good. I know that this is a bigger problem with DCS Graphics Engine, but is there something you could do to increase the resolution of mirror reflections? Anything? I use the highest possible settings (4K ). Display resolution: 1024 Every Frame. MSAA/TAA/DLAA doesn't matter. Here is a picture from Mirage 2000C: Best regards.

  26. Dear DCS team, please give us a smarter George in the Apache. Flying with him is a real drag! For example, if I point my targeting cue at something he needs to lock onto it, not something 10 miles away. We need to be able to filter out friendly targets too! I'm tired of him locking on to no enemy targets. Give us a filter or something. I would be happy if he acted more like Jester, he's actually helpful. I would be willing to pay for an upgrade to have them license the Jester logic to DCS for the Apache.

  27. No, because: A. It is based off the Legacy Hornet, which is ED's IP. B. The 3D External Model is licensed and not fully owned IP. C. I'm not paying for commercial/consumer distribution software license. Whichever Boeing requires, if not both. D. if A B and C weren't enough, I have cat gifs. *(Sorry Running Trend on our discord)*

  31. Hello dear friends of aviation, I would like to suggest that we welcome a new AI aircraft on the Russian side and that ED takes care of this request. We now have some maps where Russia is active in some form or strong in its old one, the USSR. But other than a small primary passenger aircraft and a larger Ilyushin transport aircraft, we don't have much on the red side. I therefore specifically suggest that the good old An-12 be introduced as a counterpart to the C-130. It was frequently used by the USSR in East Germany for transporting materials and personnel. In Afghanistan, for example, as a means of transportation for paratroopers and their jumps. The old lady is still in service with various nations today. Eagle Dynamics, I think it's time to give her some attention. Thank you very much for that.

  34. My Super also has noticeable mura but no noticeable tiger stripe or overblooming in any games I ‘ve tried so far…incl DCS. Mura is not deal breaker for me yet. I will try again and play DCS for more time before reporting back.

  36. Additionally, roll rate tends to reduce at high/transonic speeds in general, as control surfaces become less effective. This happens on jets without fly-by-wire too. On WWII prop planes, control surfaces can lock up almost completely at excessive speeds.

  37. I already reported this. It's all along the coast and even between islands where the water isn't deep enough for ship placement and routes. This will be hopefully fixed in the upcoming iterations of the map.

  38. In a presumed attempt to save storage/archive space, over 90% of the DCS A-10A Liveries maintained under “Download/User Files” have disappeared. if ED is watching, we’d sure like to get those back - unless there’s a model change prohibiting that request, if not, it would be really great for a community artist to remake these missing liveries. I know I’d appreciate it and I’m sure A-10A pilots on the CWG map would too. If there’s anything I can do to help, let me know. Thanks!

  40. Got the radar manual their are a couple papers with details of the flight control their is a report in dtic it’s probably the regular MiG-29 cockpit but during the visit to MiG GD engineers had access to the MiG-29M/K flight sim, it might be worth requesting ADB171690 MiG 29 Cockpit I would love the old Flanker 2.5 MiG-29K restored

  42. Those switches had quite a few parts to them all sandwiched together. The front bezel held it all in when you installed it in the panel. You were supposed to use a specific tool to grab under the bezel and extract the whole switch but lots of years of techs using the wrong tool (small screwdriver) and normal wear caused them to become loose. During the cat shot the buttons would pop out and in the worst cases come out entirely and fall onto the floor. You can a imagine a strapped in pilot has to do some major contortions to try and pick it up again (or sometimes they would invert the plane and try to get it off the canopy). Also, during OIF you really didn't want to down a whole plane for just a switch.... Safety wire or Kapton tape did the trick.

  43. I noticed during the attement to creat a scenario, and using al lot of ships that the depth in ports (Rostock, Cuxhaven , and the Elbe aren't deep enough for the vessels that you would normal see in these place's. Especially the Elbe, which goes from 30+ metres depth to just 1 in a route that is used by every vessel going and leaving Hamburg. If possible, could this be improved ? Or is there a way a user like myself can doe it himself ?

  46. Hey, I'm on the F-111C mod team. The project is still alive. We're just not going to be using Discord as a platform for now. Development is continuing, and we've made quite a lot of progress in the past couple months. Going forward we don't plan on posting anything about it until the EFM, cockpit, and external model ready. As you can understand, the F-111 is a complex aircraft, and it'll take our small team time to get it over the line. We've got some real heavy hitters on our team with a lot of professional experience, from aerospace, to systems coding, to modelling and animation. Most importantly, we all love the F-111. Here's one more screenshot, as a treat. Next time you hear from us, it'll be good news!

  47. I figured out how to export the radar display to an MFD in the Phantom, but for some reason in this plane, it's way too bright and washed out. I have a Winwing 3 MFD setup and most of my modules have one to three displays that can be exported to these MFD's. Three of my modules are not included in the Winwing app to export a display. However, one of those modules, the F-1 Mirage, exports its radar display to one of my MFD's on it's own. The app doesn't even need to be active. Curious as to how this happens, I started asking around to try to figure out how this all works. Then I started looking at various .lua files in the Mirage cockpit/scripts directory. I found a file where it references the viewport handling and then it says to "try to find" this viewport or that viewport. So I went to the other two modules that didn't export... the AJS-37 Viggen and the F-4E, and found some similar init.lua files. I added the lines that talked about trying to find this or that viewport to the same init.lua file that talked about viewport handling, and with a bit of trial and error, I got a completely functional radar display on my MFD for the AJS-37 Viggen. So I tried the same thing with the Phantom. At first, I had the added lines in the wrong init.lua file and all I got was a radar overlay on the main gaming screen. I found a file called init_bake.lua and tried that and then I had radar on an MFD as well as the overlay. Ironically, when I had it like this, the radar display on the MFD seemed somewhat normal. When I removed the lines from the first init.lua file, I got rid of the overlay, but then the radar display on the MFD is totaly bloomed and washed out. I have to tweak the displays controls a bunch in the airplane and then tweak the MFD displays with this other mod I have for that, and I can get the MFD radar display somewhat usable. But then the radar display in the airplane is too dim to see. So my obvious question is how can I adjust the brightness and contrast of the radar display going to the MFD without affecting the radar display in the cockpit? I would think there would be some way to do this but it's beyond me at this point. I figured there had to be some .lua file somewhere to adjust this. Everything else in DCS is controlled by a .lua file. I have heard that the Phantom is not yet set up for exporting displays. I obviously figured out how to do it but maybe there's more to it...? Is some secret file that needs to be tweaked for this to work? The Viggen radar display works great on my MFD. When I adjust the display in the cockpit, the MFD display matches it. So come on Haatblur. What am I missing here? How can I make this radar display on my MFD usable?
