20 June 2025 Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends, In collaboration with Magnitude 3 we are delighted to bring you the long awaited early access launch of the DCS: F4U-1D Corsair. The ‘Bent Wing Bird’, as she was affectionately named, was built for long range air-to-air and air-to-ground attack operations and packed a serious punch with rockets, bombs and machine guns. It mainly flew over the expanse of the Pacific theater from land bases, but also operated from Essex-class aircraft carriers. Take a look at the launch video here. This is a classic not to miss. This week’s update focuses on providing a number of quality of life core improvements including AI and weapon improvements, with further refinement of the Quick Action Generator. Aircraft such as the F-16C, F/A-18C, and AH-64D as well as several 3rd party aircraft also received important enhancements, In addition to the Corsair, this update features the release of the highly detailed free DCS: Marianas WWII map. This is the first stage of our Pacific Theater of Operations scenario. We will be attending the FlightSimExpo 2025 from the 27th to the 29th of June at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence! Come and find us as guests of the WINWING booth; we’ll be showing off DCS with their latest hardware. Thank you for your passion and support. Yours sincerely, Eagle Dynamics F4U-1D Corsair Fly it in early access The early-access Corsair features a highly detailed and realistic cockpit and external model that are rendered entirely with PBR textures. The featured -1D version includes a Mk.8 Mod.1 fixed gunsight and even the ASM-N-2 Bat glide bomb. Flight modelling simulates the aircraft’s unique characteristics that made it a deadly opponent to Japanese forces in 1944 and quite a challenge to operate from an aircraft carrier. The Corsair's powerful engine and massive prop torque provides exceptional speed and climb that leant towards its slashing attack tactics against slower and less capable aircraft. Along with the Corsair release, an Essex-class aircraft carrier, Japanese coastal guns and ground vehicles will be available for free as part of the Core update. Other assets are being created such as the F6F Hellcat and many United States and Imperial Japanese air, ground, and naval units. Please see: Pacific Theatre of Operations | CH-47F Development Progress | Lunar Sale Final Hours - Official Newsletters - ED Forums. For this scenario, we are creating an extensive and accurate set of units that match the time and location. This will allow you to recreate the Battle for the Mariana Islands and the Battle of the Philippine Sea. The DCS: F4U-1D Corsair is available now for only $47.99 during the early access phase. Please note that once the module is released, the price will increase to $59.99. DCS Update Development Progress This week’s update is headlined by the free DCS: Marianas WWII map and the long-awaited DCS: F4U-1D Corsair. This update has also squashed several stability and performance bugs, improved AI behaviour, overhauled several missile flight models, and pushed a healthy list of quality-of-life fixes to the Quick Action Generator, Mission Editor, and Voice Chat. Marianas WWII A free map of the Mariana islands that includes Guam, Saipan, Tinian, Rota, and Pagan. Based on period maps and photos of the islands in the summer of 1944, they are characterized by hastily bulldozed runways, cane fields, volcanic ridges and villages under Imperial Japanese control. DCS Core Texture streaming now uses less RAM and disk I/O; Mission-Editor templates and resource-manager copy functions are now working correctly; WWII ground units received proper radar returns; SAM logic prioritises targets more sensibly; Buk and Kub missiles received improved aerodynamics, while the R-27 series of air-to-air missiles now deliver more accurate velocities. The Quick Mission Generator received several improvements such as fixing era/country mismatches, restoring missing aircraft and adjusting altitude and airspeeds. Voice-chat mode selection and mid-transmission slot-switch crashes have also been fixed. Eagle Dynamics Modules F/A-18C received more accurate AIM-7 FLOOD and AIM-9 uncage logic, and the flashlight behaviour has been fixed. Work continues on the new Terrain Avoidance radar mode and the ability to set surveillance MSI surveillance tracks as an L&S and DT2. F-16C Viper saw AGM-65 seeker fixes, INS/GPS drift corrections, HMCS symbology tweaks, and a long list of HAD and CMDS improvements, while the new AN/ASP-33 pod moved into extended testing. Although our hope and intention was to release this new targeting pod for the Viper by the end of Quarter 2 of 2025, it requires a bit more time in testing to ensure a quality release that will include new features such as Multi-Target Tracking (MTT), Picture-in-Picture that combines the infrared and TV cameras, Extended Range (XR) functions, and more. The planned release is for summer 2025. CH-47F receives a major CDU/MFD feature drop including hover-mode HSD, full fuel-and-power pages, data search, progress pages, plus keyboard entry options and pedal-trim fixes. Miscellaneous: the Su-25T instant-actions were added for the Iraq map; the F-86F jettison sound bug is silenced; and the Black Shark 3 enjoys ABRIS accuracy tweaks. Third-Party Additions Orbx – Kola adds six new arctic bases, colour-corrected summer textures, runway-data fixes and an optimisation sweep. Deka – JF-17 introduces TWS-EXP radar mode and radar-page HPT fixes. New Campaigns and Improvements The F-4E Northern Defenders Campaign by Flying Cyking and the P-47D Wolfpack II Overlord Campaign by Reflected Simulations are also now available. Along with the improvements included in last week's update, more campaign improvements will follow later in June. Read the full changelog. FlightSimExpo 2025 Come hang out with us! From the 27th to the 29th of June at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence, we’ll be at FlightSimExpo 2025 showcasing two state-of-the-art cockpits equipped with the latest WINWING hardware and ready for you to jump in and experience DCS. We're also excited to share that Grinnelli Designs will be at the show with their own booth, showcasing the highly anticipated DCS: F-100D Super Sabre; a legendary Cold War-era jet. FlightSimExpo 2025 will also host several of our partners, including Orbx, Tobii, PIMAX, and many more. This show offers an exciting glimpse into the future of flight simulation. Come and say hello, try the latest gear, and join our community! Thank you again for your passion and support, Yours sincerely,14 points

As I said in the FAQ. I will primarily make sure the mods are still working. And I will most likely remove redundant assets, as they get introduced as new and updated versions in core DCS. But since I really enjoy creating assets for DCS, I will probably add new stuff to the mods also.12 points

I just wanted to thank the developers of the Corsair for creating such a beautiful module for DCS. The Corsair has been my absolute favorite aircraft for many years - I'm sure that I'm not the only one this applies to After years of flying the F4U in WT sim battles I found myself longing for a more accurate representation of this legendary aircraft and since some of the teasers published around 2019 I found myself excitedly waiting for the DCS Corsair! And now in 2025 it's finally here! I've taken the Hog out for a couple of test flights now and I just wanted to say WOW! What a gorgeous looking aircraft with amazing texture work and plenty of beautiful liveries (including some to roleplay -1 and -1A Corsair models!!). The flight model feels so detailed and rich as well, I'm not a real pilot but it certainly seems to check out compared to the stories from the pilots that actually flew these birds. It flies beautifully in DCS - my first flights really felt exhilerating and quite honestly made me sweat a little! This Hog is certainly gonna make me practice my stick 'n rudder skills a lot more! Can't wait to make some proper missions for the Ensign Eliminator It was worth the wait and certainly worth every penny - again, thanks so much for beautifully representing this legendary fighter in DCS. Of course, some screenshots below!6 points

Hi ED, very nice to see the Marias WWII map finally! Waited so long for it. However, I believe the Pagan Airstrip is a bit too short. See screenshots. If I assume historic map and ingame map are at the same scale (should be at least, although there is a slight offset it seems), the runway is at least 2300 ft rather than 1800 ft. If I use the roads as orientation, the airstip is even longer and slightly more shifted landward (I replicated the purple line). Is it possible the current airstip length has been salvaged from the original current-day Marianas map? There the airstrip has been truncated due to the volcanic eruption and lava flow in 1981 to be just above 1700 ft, which would match to the current ingame version. Also the ground texture and mesh look like that there are still remains from the eruption which has yet to take place. I believe the runway in 1944 must be longer, I have troubles in landing there in one piece.5 points

Hi, Turns out its the same folder name as for its liveries: "F4U-1D_CW" ... now I have a working custom kneeboard for both variants ... I may end-up placing a junction link there, so as to use a single kneeboard set of pages for both variants, to save a bit of drive space and to ease update maintenance Cheers!4 points

Thankyou for the Free Marianas WW2 Map its Great ! At present the Sugar Mill Locomotives and wagons are just baked into the Marianas WW2 map at the various sugar mill yards. They cannot be placed as user trains. Maybe the usable ones will be released in the upcoming assets addon. The Narrow Gauge Railway Tracks are now 3d and look great. The DCS Trains will run on the tracks but are oversize and are for the larger Gauge. I have a Narrow Gauge 060 Sugar Mill Steam Locomotive that has fully animated wheels and valve gear , i am hacking it together from bits and pieces for the Marianas WW2 Sugar cane Railway System. She needs a few more small tweeks before i upload it to the files section. If you like you can view the Locomotive Animated Valve Gear in the short video. I am hacking together a few narrow gauge wagons also. I am pleased so far as She is looking very nice and blends in very well with the Islands Scenery. marianas loco valvegear.flv4 points

Su-22m4 cockpit got proper normalmaps and roughmets now. Also, I announce that Su-22 will have some basic clickable functionality - simplified cold start, wing sweep controll, lights, gears, weapon panel etc Clickable cold start will fix problems with cold start that the mod currently have - Su-27 FM sees the plane as having 2 engines and nose wheel steering while Su25A avionics dont see it (and obvously we have one engine) It makes you unable to turn when started cold. Making a clickable action through lua should force comands like NWS on and "both" engines start into FM. We'll see how that works, stay tuned for more updates4 points

This is really a "you" problem, not a DCSW problem. For e.g., the F-14 doesn't fly anything like the FA-18, and it requires quite a bit of rudder, trim and power adjustments on a very frequent basis. Helicopters are very much the same. MANY WW2 pilots & planes crashed due to the challenging and unforgiving nature of warbirds. You need to do some research. You need to adjust your joystick saturation & curves significantly per the many guides available, and most of all, you need to PRACTICE. Then again. And then some more. Eventually, it'll click for you, and once it does, you'll have a great time The journey is worth it.3 points

Haven't flown a Corsair (but I know people who have so I could probably ask them). That being said, I've flown other aircraft from light to heavy and I find the flight model of the F4u in game unconvincing. Well done to Magnitude 3 for what they've achieved. The aircraft looks awesome, the carrier is great too and I'm stoked we've got at least some Pacific theatre content (fingers crossed with the potential for more) after years of waiting. But yea I really hope they work on the flight model. The aircraft has absolutely no feel of weight, it's super pitchy, it feels weird on the ground and I didn't notice any of the usual flight sim genre cues that warn of the stall. They could probably give the aircraft much greater feel by giving the player feedback through more sound. The Corsair is a big machine, it weighs more empty than some models of Spitfire fully loaded and yet in game it flies like a little aerobat. If you haven't already bought it, I'd recommend holding off and seeing how development progresses, it's just a bit arcadey at the moment.3 points

Hi, Really excelent guide, if you don’t mind I will adapt it to PDF format to be able to place it on the Corsair Kneeboard. Your work reminds me why I prefer writen works rather than video tutorials, at least for equipment subjects … flying technique is better for video. Cheers, Eduardo3 points

Gekauft!

I could not agree more. I grew up in and around 6 of these beautiful girls. Magnitude knocked everything out of the park except for the engine sounds. They need some work for sure. I hate to compare them to Black Bird simulations Corsair in MSFS, but they hit the mark a lot closer. I hope Magnitude teams up with Echo 19 to get the sounds right on the old girl. This should be priority. They totally missed the mark on the whistling death.3 points

Such a good feeling when a life wish came true, right (we can say a life wish, based on your words)? I feel you. Enjoy flying it. I will do it as well. And thx to Magnitude3 for an amazing job they have done of this outstanding WWII warbird. Incredible work.3 points

Wow, the current flight model of the Apache feels like part of the tail rotor has been shot off in terms of yaw stability at slow airspeeds. Transitioning from forward flight to a hover, especially in a high threat tactical situation, is a nightmare. This is simply not right. The flight model is not a little bit off; rather, it's in the realm of science fiction. Has anyone else noticed this? How can a three year old module have fallen into this kind of neglect?3 points
