  2. Given the fact there is a FAQ on their Discord, but not in this forum I've decided to copy it in here so people can find it better. From the FAQ on Airplane Simulation Company Discord as by August the 2. : Q. Which variants are planned? A. Stage 1- C-130J Block 6.5 Hercules, Tactical airlifter C-130J-30, Lockheed Martin designation for its 15 ft (4.6 m) extended fuselage variant; designated CC-130J by USAF for a short time after 2002., Release timeline to be confirmed for the following at a later date: MC-130J, Designed for Air Force Special Operations Command. Originally named Combat Shadow II., Q. Are the C130H or legacy models planned? A. No. Q. What is the expected release date? A. By the end of 2025. Q. Will the C-130J be able to transport weapons? A. We intend for the C-130 to be able to carry any warehouse items between bases. Q. CNI/FMS? A. Yes, a fully simulated FMS is included. We have also modeled airways/SIDS/stars, etc. Q. MOAB? A. Yes! Q. Will there be an AC variant? A. Depending on sales, we will consider an AC / Harvest Hawk in the future. Q. Airdrops? A. Yes for cargo and vehicles. Paratroops will be added when ED puts them in game. Q. Multicrew? A. Yes, at least 3. Q. Cargo Loading/Unloading without needing scripts? A. Yes. Any cargo dropped or landed will be added to the DCS warehouse system. Q. What defensive systems will the plane have? A. The plane will have an RWR, MWS, and IIRCM systems. The fidelity levels of these are limited by both the availability of unclassified information on those systems, as well as DCS itself. Q. What skins will be available? A. The list is unconfirmed at the time as there are so many national operators, but the artist will produce a paintkit in the future, after release, for livery makers. Q. Will we add the fuel probe? A. Possibly in future after initial release Hope this one will prevent some confusion and give answers to people who aren't using Discord. As soon as a more official FAQ arrives, this one can be closed and put into archives.

  3. Hello to all heli pilots out there, or those who want to become one. If you're new to DCS or helicopters and want to learn how to control the helicopter without flight computer support, then you're exactly where you belong in this group. You're looking to operate like a pilot, not just a player. I (Grizzly, a helicopter flight instructor) and others from the squadron offer online individual and group training. It doesn't matter which helicopter type you want to fly. However, the UH-1 Huey is particularly suitable for beginners. But if you don't want to invest too much money in DCS at the beginning, MODS can also be used by arrangement. Feel free to get in touch with us here, on our Discord, or via direct message. https://discord.gg/aqwzv2P Ein Hallo an alle Heli Flieger da draußen oder die es noch werden wollen.

  4. No, thanks. Two years ago I'd have probably bought it just to support the developers, but now after Razbam debacle I'm much less enthusiastic about spending money on DCS.

  7. There was a huge amount of backlash from the community after the first iteration of the Afghanistan map, and ED noticed they can't get away with releasing such low-quality modules/maps any more. That's most likely the reason behind all the delays: to incorporate consumer feedback and generally speaking improving the overall quality. Most people would agree delays are preferable over early releases of sub-par modules/maps, I bet...

  9. Tested the new play and firmware with IL2, Pimax CPR is a game changer. The previous quadviews in DCS were already perfect, though I tested only 2 vs 1 in QM. More stuff (missions) always spanks the CPU before the GPU suffers. The IPD in the Super is way more of a thing than in the OG. I was getting double vision with it set to where I had it in the OG but 67mm seems to have sorted it. No muira, though I can see a kind of shade of screendoor across the entire image. It has to be deliberately looked for though. No chromatic aberration, unlike the OG (it was slight). Physical fit, about as perfect as a headset could be (for me). I got lucky.

  11. I got my Pimax Crystal Super yesterday. From before I have a Crystal OG and are also somewhat familiar with the Crystal Light. In my house I also have Quest 3 and Pico 4. I also have Playstation VR 2. And eariler I have had HTC Vive, Vive Pro, Reverb G1, Reverb G2. Pimax 8KX (which actually still have, but don't use). I remember when I first got my Crystal OG quite some time back it could be troublesome to get it to connect and start up. No worries with the Crystal Super. Downloaded and installed Pimax Play, and plugged in the USB cable and Display port cable, and connected the power plug - and Voila - just worked like it should. And nice to forget about the battery too... Yesterday I played around a bit in Microsoft Flight simulator 2024. I didn't know that I had to turn off Quad Views in Pimax Play to get MSFS 2024 own Quadviews to work - so my performance wasn't very good. So - Moira - ever since the first VR youtubers did their videos about the Crystal Super and its "terrible Moira" problems I guess many "ordinary" customers have worried/are still worrying about their Super - will it have moira? The good: We know Pimax have been working to improve the quality control. At least they say so, and that eventually led to delays in shipping for many customers when Pimax got panels from production that wasn't good enough to be used in their Super headsets. And, yeah - not nice to get your shipping delayed. But, be glad that it's happening this way. Because I believe them. You don't have to if don't want to of course. BUT- I can not see any Moira during game play. On my old Reverb G2 and especially on my PSVR2 I could see moira during gameplay quite easy - but I forgot about it in the heat of the action of course. I was expecting that the Crystal Super might be this way too. It is not. It is much better! Is it completely gone? Don't think so, but then again, I can find moira on my other headsets as well (Crystal OG, Pico, Quest 3) if I care to spend time looking for it. So, Moira is a non issue now on the Crystal Super. IF you find the level of moria I have (which I can not see unless I spend time trying to defocus my eyes against a clear bright one colored background - which is in itself a bit tricky to do) - then maybe take up bowling and stop playing VR games Chromatic aberration - well, my original Pimax Crystal has some. It is easy to see, but I forget about while playing. This Crystal Super though - oh, my oh my - these lenses are good! Not a problem. Also the edge to edge clarity is much better than my Crystal OG (and the Crystal Light I tested for a while) and that combined with the much improved field of view... The level of clarity I get in DCS is just incredible with the Super. I will write more about how I did later on here. But let me tell you - the clarity, the brightness... Flying a F-16 at full afterburner over cities, houses, trees... the sense of speed is very, very good now! The bigger FOV helps with this, but I would think the improved clarity also come into play. The eyes and the brain notice a lot more on the ground while flying. And bear in mind - I am comparing against to Crystal OG. (The Quest 3 is nowhere near this of course, (it is not in the same neighbor hood - or even the same country). The clarity improvement shows itself very good when looking down, scanning for things/objects on the ground. It is easier to pick out the small details. Also things in the distance is sharper. Noticeably so. And it is bright! Very bright. I have not tried night flying yet. So can not say how that turns out. Sound - the speakers that it comes with are "ok". But my order came also with the DMAS speakers included, so I mounted them and now the sound is quite good. For me, the face gasket is a good fit. Rather comfortable. The front part of the the headset is not as wide or wobbly as the Crystal OG, and that is in improvement! Hand controllers - nah. I Don't use them. Headset Tracking - in my environment today - no big issues. It has worked good I think. Things that are not perfect: Auto IPD - gave me a strange value. So I turned auto IPD off and adjusted manually to my IPD. No biggie, but it is an advertised feature so I have to mention it. The cable from the headset to the PC is a bit thick and stiff. I don't like that. But getting the full lossless Display port image is more important to me than the small issue living the somewhat thick cable. The headset is a bit front heavy. Not more than my Pimax Crystal OG. And the total weight is OK. But like most headsets (except for Pico 4) it is a bit front heavy. My order came with the Comfort Top Strap, but - I have yet to figure out how to mount that in a sensible manner. I had no problems mounting a Pimax top strap on my other Pimax headsets, but this one is somewhat different, and.. well. I will investigate this further later on. It is possible to use the headset without it of course, but I'd like to get it fixed. The front part of the headset do get a bit warm, but I don't feel it unless I move my hand to touch the front plate - so it is nothing serious. The experimental Wide Fov mode in Pimax Play for this "non wide" Crystal Super... I have not felt so dizzy in VR since started using VR in 2017! 5 minutes and I had to turn it off. The normal FOV on this Qled 50PPD Crystal is so good that I don't miss it. The wide FOV version of the Super that comes later, that is physically made for wider FOV, will be different of course. But this software solution was not for me at least. VR Flight Sim guy did longer session with it - and congratulations to him I never bought this Super for a software fix wider FOV, it even was not a thing when I ordered so... this does not influence my opinion about this headset. Conclusion: Wow!! Just wow! For me this is a clear upgrade from the Crystal OG. The Crystal OG also had eye tracking. But - the clarity improvement is .. I would say big. The lenses are way better, chromatic aberration is as good as gone. The edge to edge clarity is bigger. The field of view. The brightness. The battery is gone. The ability to pick out fine details in the distance is well improved. Expensive. But this is my hobby. My PC is an AMD 9950X3D and RTX 5090, 64Gigs of 6000Mhz RAM. To get the best picture an maintain steady over 72fps in full resolution is followed Tallymouse guide on youtube. It it is execellent! Tallymouse settled for 90 FPS. I restrained myself to 72fps to have some overhead.

  12. @Wags @BIGNEWY @NineLine Gents, quick question for ED. I pre purchased the C-130 and noticed in early access there was going to be the ability to walk around inside the aircraft and out upon release. I was under the impression ED was waiting on updated tech to accomplish this. Does this mean we could see the same for the CH-47 in a closer upcoming patch, or is this functionality for the ED modules still a ways out?

  15. Ok, I've finally had time to look at this stuff. Let me breakdown everything I found and observed. This is going to be a bit long so bear with me. Let's start with the loadouts. The pilot taking off in the real-world video had: 2x AIM-120B, 1x GBU-12, 1x GBU-38 (on BRU-57), 1x Litening TGP, 2x Wing tanks. With max fuel his weight before startup would've been 36,718lbs --NOTE-- In the real-world video you posted the first F16 seen has one GBU-12, one GBU-38, one Litening TGP, two AIM-120Bs, and two tanks, while the jet taking off has the same loadout but has the GBU-38 as a single-by on the BRU57 Smart bomb rack, a pretty common occurrence. In DCS we can't do that so we will stick with the one-by GBU-38 on the WWP, not too big of a change. Also, the weights are relatively close to the same. Your loadout was: 2x AIM-120C, 2x GBU-12, 1x Litening TGP, 2x Wing Tanks. Weight before startup 36,815lbs. Charlies are heavier than bravos. That gives us a weight difference of 97lbs. (48.5lbs per wing) Another factor for weight though, is the real-world pilot didn't start off on the runway with full fuel like you are doing. He burned some sitting there starting the jet, getting the systems ready, and taxi meaning he probably took off with a fuel weight of about 11,019lbs vs your fuel weight of 12,113lbs. Depending on certain factors he could've burned anywhere between 1,100lbs to 1,500lbs of fuel. So, accounting for that we will go with the middle and say he burned 1,300lbs bringing his new weight to around 35,418lbs. So now we have both weights factored. Yours: 36,815lbs IRL Video: 35,418lbs --Difference in weight = 1,397lbs Let's get our numbers now (All numbers are rounded to the nearest ones). For a 10 Degree pitch Yours: Rotation Speed = w/AB 164 w/o AB 169 | T/O Speed = 179 IRL Video: Rotation Speed = w/AB 160 w/o AB 165 | T/O Speed = 175 For an 8 Degree pitch (increase takeoff speed by 8 percent) Yours: Rotation Speed = w/AB 178 w/o AB 183 | T/O Speed = 193 IRL Video: Rotation Speed = w/AB 174 w/o AB 179 | T/O Speed = 189 Only going to do AB takeoffs You can see for the 10 degrees pitch your numbers were just a bit off. Now, let me talk about what I noticed in the video, because this will be important later. The real-world pilot is at Balad AB which has an elevation of 144ft above MSL (judging by the background he is taking off from runway 30) vs you, taking off from Batumi which is only 33ft above MSL, but that isn't too much of a factor here. Now, if we take into account that in early October, which is when this video is uploaded the temperature would've been around 98 to high 80s. But giving the chances the video was upload immediately is very slim meaning this was most likely shot in June to August time frame meaning the temps would've been around 100 to 115 degrees. The runway temp would've been around 160-180 degrees (based on real world flight line experience as a maintainer at Nellis AFB, the ground gets super-hot on the flight line). So, you got to take that into account for engine performance. Can't really tell what the winds were but I will just put a 2-knot wind in since judging by the trees I couldn't really see any movement but I'm sure there was some type of wind that day across the runway. I made a mission with these parameters: Iraq Takeoff Example.miz And last but not least, probably the biggest factor in all of this, is what he does at the end. The 45 degrees vertical climb. Because he did that and judging by how he took off, I can tell he did an 8-degree pitch instead of a 10-degree pitch. You can tell because he stays pretty low before starting the climb. With that he had a whole (if I'm right about his weight) 13 knots on you when he started his rotation. This is where it gets interesting. I watched your track in slow motion countless times and here is what I noticed. You started to rotate at 164. This is the speed you initially started pulling the stick back. So, your horizontal stabs were not fully deflected yet. At 169 your horizontal stabs were fully deflected which started your rotation. Takeoff was at 197 for both wheels. At 194 you were kind of taking off with a roll, so you didn't have both wheels off the ground yet. The controls indicator showed you applied a slight roll to the right when pitching. Obviously, those numbers aren't what you were looking for. Now let's get to my tracks because this is where it gets good. I also did this on the Caucasus map for those who don't have the Iraq map. Replicating the real-world video as close as possible. In my first track Iraq 10 degrees 156.trk I started pull the stick for rotation at 156 and had full horizontal stab deflection at 161 which started my rotation. I achieved takeoff at 185. In the 2nd track Iraq 10 degrees 160.trk I started to pull the stick for rotation at 160 and had full horizontal stab deflection at 162 which started my rotation. I achieved takeoff at 186. In the 3rd track Iraq 10 degrees 161.trk I started to pull the stick for rotation at 161 and had full horizontal stab deflection at 165 which started my rotation. I achieved takeoff at 187. That was all with using the speed on the HUD. I then decided to test the speed using the external view. I did one take. My rotation needed to start at 154 in the HUD which would be 161 on the external cam. So, I pulled at 154 and had full horizontal stab at 160 in the HUD, which started my rotation. I achieved takeoff again at 186Iraq 10 degrees 154 in HUD.trk Having tested the 10-degree pitch numerous times, I then moved onto the 8-degree pitch. Remember 8 degrees = Rotation Speed = w/AB 174 | T/O Speed = 189 1st track I started pulling the stick at 170 and had full stab deflection at 174 which started my rotation. I achieved takeoff at 189. Iraq 8 degrees 170.trk 2nd track I started pulling at 171 and had full stab deflection at 177. I achieved takeoff at 190. Iraq 8 degrees 171.trk 3rd track I started pulling at 171 and had full stab deflection at 176. I achieved takeoff at 191. Iraq 8 degrees 171 2.trk These three tracks show the problem. The F16 in DCS cannot do a 10-degree pitch and achieve calculated numbers. It can however hit or come close to hitting the numbers for the 8-degree pitch. It should be able to do both. I provided a track from an external view as well to compare with the real-world video doing an 8-degree pitch, and I roughly found the location of where the person was standing when recording. You will see it closely replicates the real-world video. Don't take control, I move the camera into position. Iraq 8 degrees external view.trk Done on Caucasus: 8 degrees - takeoff was 189 Caucasus 8 degrees 189.trk 10 degrees - takeoff was 185 Caucasus 10 degrees 185.trk I even went a step further and tested out Mover's loadout, which was a pretty similar loadout to what I had during my incentive ride. And I can confirm that it still needs a bit of tuning in this area for the Viper. It is so close to being on point. Same results: 10 degrees Caucasus 10 degrees dif lo.trk Takeoff speed = 159 | rotate w/AB at 144 Pulled back at 141, full deflect at 147 w/ t/o at 166 8 degrees Caucasus 8 degrees dif lo.trk Takeoff speed = 172 | rotate w/AB at 157 Pulled back at 153, full deflect at 159 / t/o at 172 I concluded that no matter the speed, with this loadout or a lighter loadout, and going for 10 degrees, that I would takeoff ~10 knots faster than what the calculated takeoff speed is. An 8-degree pitch and flying for those speeds was way more consistent. After watching real world videos in slow motion and watching my tracks in slow motion and analyzing every little detail I almost thought it was the scheduling of the LEFs but came to the conclusion that those are operating correctly every single time. WOW comes off and the LEFs actuate accordingly. So it isn't that. I now suspect two things could be the problem: low engine thrust, or too much drag against the aircraft when the nose comes up. The drag seems like the more probable cause as there is no issue when going for 8 degrees. You are going faster essentially pushing past that drag because you have the speed to do so. Whereas, going slow and aiming for 10 degrees the jet just doesn't want to get up until it is faster. Almost as if the 8 degrees speed is the only speed the jet can get off the ground with. The reason I suspect the engine is because when holding the brakes and running the engine to 90rpm there should be a brief moment where the brakes hold but quickly slip due to the amount of thrust. This is something that is noted in the -1 as well and is noted to not push past 90rpm when holding brakes, and to come off the brakes as soon as the jet moves on its own. It can be one of them or both. I hope this helps with the investigating from team @NineLine @BIGNEWY

  17. See this statement: I understand some concerns, but I believe they are unfounded. This is a completely different publisher than Razbam, with its aspirations. Yes, there's always a certain risk, and that can't be ignored. Perhaps ED should provide greater protection for users, for example, by ensuring their product is supported for at least six years from release, and if such support isn't provided, a refund in ED miles is offered as standard procedure? It might be worth thinking about it for modules of 3rd party devs, because I see that some people have some concerns.

  19. From the info, looks like 2 initially, with a 3rd planned after initial release. Presumably Pilot, Co-pilot, loadmaster. No. I would say they under-promised and over-delivered. They've said "by the end of 2025" many times. Reading between the lines on what they've posted over time, I've always assumed it was going to be sooner than that and they were making sure they didn't miss a date.

While she may not appeal to all, I'm certain there is a good chunk of the DCS community that is ecstatic to get their hands on this beauty not to mention the entirely new market this could potentially open up for non-combat focused flight simmers! I really hope ASC are here to become the Heatblur if you will of the logistics and the non-standard module world, can't wait to see where these guys take us in this 4-engine beast. Thank you ASC for opening up a whole new world in DCS and thanks to both ASC and ED for pushing the boundaries of what DCS is and giving it a yet another layer of operations! I'd kill for a good C-2/E-2 module. Nothing like shooting a fat prop on and off a deck!

Pre-order Program Available for a limited time at only $55.99 Pre-order Please note that you can also purchase the DCS: C-130J directly from the Airplane Simulation Company website. Development progress From the Airplane Simulation Company: What’s already done Over the past year(s), we’ve completed the core flight-model, engine, APU, electrical, hydraulic, fuel systems, and avionic systems. The cargo bay is fully walkable in VR and flatscreen, with rigged physics for CDS bundles, and the GBU-43/B MOAB. Network-synchronised multi-crew is fully implemented for two players. What we’re still doing As we approach release, key focus points for the team include finalization of audio effects in the cargo bay, damage modeling, Levels Of Detail (LODs), integration of a 3rd multicrew slot, and the completion of a vehicle airdrop system in partnership with Eagle Dynamics. We’re also tuning parachute deployment mechanics, including introducing extraction chutes for heavy equipment airdrops, and physically simulated static lines. Post Early Access Launch Once the C-130J-30 is released, our focus will turn to the MC-130J. This variant, operated by AFSOC, brings aerial refueling capabilities, including player-to-player AAR in multiplayer. The MC variant also includes the AN/AAS-52(V) EO-IR pod, and a third crew station for the CSO, or combat systems officer. We thank our community SMEs, test teams, Eagle Dynamics for their support, and every pilot eager to get those four fans of freedom turning. The Herc is rounding the corner, see you on the ramp soon! Pre-order now The DCS: C-130J will be available on Steam at a later date. Pre-order Program Available for a limited time at only $55.99 Pre-order Thank you again for your passion and support. 25. Your enthusiasm is yours to manage as you please, of course. My enthusiasm, however, remains enthusiastic. I want all the fancy flightsim enjoyment I can have. And a DCS C-130, for me certainly, is top of the list. And I'll pre-order, twice, to get my hands on that kind of flying fun. Actually I will pre-order twice, I'm getting one for me and one for a content creator. As stated, I'm very enthusiastic. I think this is a great step forward for the sim.

  26. Go get the mod, do the start-up, fly and try an assault landing in a tennis court. See what you miss, watch in the videos what is already done. Just give a new 3rd party a chance. The Razbam funeral has been going on for years in the licensed-third-party-projects/RAZBAM section.

  27. Does anyone know if the new air-dropping is a DCS core feature or proprietary ASC thing embedded in the module? Are we likely to see it incorporated into the CH-47, or AI DC-3, IL-76, C-17 etc? Also, will the cargo be functional or just cosmetic? Will dropping ammunition actually provide a rearming function in the same way placing ground logistics vehicles does?

  28. When are we getting more of this Afghan map, more than 1 year on now from first release? Iraq map is also now 8 months on and no update!!

  29. I'm 90% sure I'll get the C-130J first. It's scheduled for October if things go well. Battlefield 6 is also scheduled for October 10th. Of course, all in 2025.

  30. How about some air drop ground marker panels as objects? And while we're at it a flashing IR strobe for a night drop zone would be a great and useful object too.

  31. Can't wait, this will be a really game changer in DCS Ecosystem IMHO. For sure we'll release a new multiplayer server that will leverage a lot on C-130J capabilities to move on the campaing across the map. Stay tuned For all the people worried about not buying module on third parties store, a really surprising fact, is that you'll receive immidiatly on purchase the code to redeem on DCS website, so as soon as it will be released, you'll have it! Times to times, when using external website, before obtain DCS code some times will elapse, not the case! I'm super happy about that!

  32. I've got my Steam wallet loaded up for this. Just have to wait now. Probably going to be a Top 3 module for me right away. I spend a lot of time in DCS just flying for fun, and this will take it to the next level. I pop into the civy sim sometimes, spend ten-minutes, be unamused, and then get right back into DCS just to fly around and enjoy the planes. With the C-130 the deal is sealed. One sim fits all.

  33. Pre-ordered! Thank you for your hard work. This will be one hell of a flight experience. Despite the perception, that there's not "much to do for a C-130J in DCS" I can't wait to do all those things we will be able to do! From supply drops, combat landings on improvised short runways, cargo delivery on a dynamic multiplayer server, to the MC-130J and infil and exfil of SpecOps teams behind enemy lines or in the Hindukush mountains in weather and at night... And the impressions from the pre-order trailer are awesome. Really looking forward to this gem!

  36. I'm in the process of making comparison GIF for all aircraft. So far, I made 6 of them and I can tell you that: HUD boldness is not affected by resolution for the following aircraft: JF-17 (the result is very clean) A-10C Ka-50 (the result is poor because characters are much too bold, whatever the resolution) EDIT: AH-64 HUD boldness is indeed affected by resolution for the following aircraft: AV-8B F-16 F/A-18C EDIT: F-15E affected too, even though it's less striking I stand corrected about the AV-8B. This GIF method is the best I could find to demonstrate the issue (even to myself). Thanks for pushing me harder when it's needed, gents. Once I'm finished, I'll report all affected aircraft individually.

  38. Yes, I spoke with a few other users, and it seems that Pimax OpenXR is not working with mbucchia’s QV. The only workaround at the moment is to use PimaxXR with his QV. I’ve already submitted this bug to the development team.

  42. Lossless Scaling does not work with VR. For upscaling in VR there is DLSS and FSR. Generation of additional frames in VR is done by the respective compositor reprojection methods.
