Training missions are confusing with bugs and inconsistencies
Ziptie replied to imacken's topic in Missions and Campaigns
So had a chance to try the training mission today, before my Oculus cable "broke" ............. Just as I tried to elude to in a previous post - what you need to do (and others) is to press and hold the OSB that is 'highlighted' when the IP wants you to press the OSB to select the MAV display on the right MFD. Press and hold the OSB, then select MAV, then press the OSB (that is still highlighted where MAV was originally displayed in the A10C "I"). I understand that the training "tutorial" should be adjusted to reflect the new orientation - however this is also partly a good 'mini training' for people learning the A10C, as part of knowing how to operate the systems in the aircraft, is that you are able to setup the displays on the MFDs to your liking. Anyways, I said I'd try the mission and report back - so that is the reason for my reply. Was able to progress to the end of the mission, used the GAU on the remaining targets after employing all 4 Mavericks (2xD and 2xH). Happy New Year Cheers, Ziptie -
Was for me (requiring the battery power switch to be on) Also something similar with the Hornet - but there was some stipulation with the Hornet, that once you'd applied the battery switch power and then toggled the battery switch power, the flashlight wouldn't turn back on again. Cheers, Ziptie

Any F18 campaign that isn't too hard (IE realistic)?
Ziptie replied to budguy68's topic in Missions and Campaigns
Correct, Task Force Challenger is the name of it, couldn't remember. Cheers, Ziptie -
I have similar issues, and an almost identical crash / log. Windows 10 update to date (as of 20201228), latest DCS OpenBeta, latest Nvidia GPU driver (20201215 - v. 460.89), zero mods installed, "full (slow) repair done" Sometimes when DCS crashes, it "locks up" Discord. Every so often, it will completely close my Oculus software. Also, when the pop up occurs after a DCS crash, I can actually ALT+TAB and bring DCS back to the priority application and continue flying. Sometimes this works for only a minute or two - the other day I did this and was able to keep flying for nearly an hour. Very frustrating for sure, especially when flying the mission in our server - where every single resource is limited, from every pound of fuel, to weapons and airframes. Losing an airframe and weapons because of a DCS crash is very costly.. I regularly delete the contents of the FXO folder (and recently the metashaders2 folder is empty prior to starting DCS - not sure if this is something you guys have done behind the scenes or not....) Sounds like it's related to the RECALC when you land. I'd guess the way to "avoid it" would be to put the CDU rotary switch to MISSION prior to entering the pattern for landing - then at EOR prior to takeoff, or after takeoff, put the CDU rotary switch back to FLT PLN. As for "if this is real world behavior" - only a few people on this forum who could speak to that most likely - like @Snoopy maybe.. Cheers, Ziptie

Also working just fine for me, just flew a few quick sorties today after the holiday break. All good. Cheers, Ziptie -
You can't collide with power lines? I've found them before..... Cheers, Ziptie

Any F18 campaign that isn't too hard (IE realistic)?
Ziptie replied to budguy68's topic in Missions and Campaigns
Raven One is pretty "advanced" for someone looking for a "less realistic" mission, in my opinion. That being said, the Raven One campaign will "force" you to use the systems in the Hornet - and is actually a great training campaign, along with being a challenging one (some parts can even be challenging for a veteran). All that being said, I believe that the Raven One campaign is a phenomenal piece of work and very much worth the purchase. I don't think it's for a beginner, but it can get an upper level novice to a medium+ level intermediate just by playing through the campaign. Very informative and very well put together. My .02 Cheers, Ziptie -

Have you tried the campaign that comes with the Hornet? I don't recall the name of it - but it's a four or five mission campaign. Really basic, somewhat fun and pretty easy. Cheers, Ziptie -
https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/products/planes/tank_killer/ It's literally the first airplane after you select "Planes" from the Products drop down menu. Enjoy the aircraft, she's worth every penny. Cheers, Ziptie

+1 for the problem with the ruler when using VR. You have to click where you want the ruler to start and then click where you want the ruler to end, before the ruler will "align properly." Also noticed that the bearing listed on the ruler is different than the bearing listed at the top of the F10 map. This is an exceptionally annoying bug that is very difficult to handle when using VR. I switched to 2D and it worked as it had before (normally). Back to VR and is behaving "broken." Cheers, Ziptie

Very odd. I am able to get a tally at over 15 miles (without them conning). Using VR zoom or VR spy zoom, can get the tally from well in excess of 25 miles. VR, CV1, 20/13 vision(not sure if that part really makes a difference in VR). Cheers, Ziptie

vr Настройки Bignewy Reverb G2 для высокой частоты кадров
Ziptie replied to BIGNEWY's topic in Virtual Reality
Don't have any issues with it here - although it does seem to be "less optimized" compared to other maps. That being said, I've performed a "trick" that I was informed of that has made it run even smoother. Not sure why, but I'm certainly not a computer programmer. The MP server that I fly in, the creator has even further optimized the performance and it runs just as smooth as it does in SP, while flying in the MP server. I know the map has a much more detailed landscape than the other maps available in DCS, so could be part of it. Cheers, Ziptie -
Yes, the files in those two folders can cause issues. I have found, as of a few updates ago (for OB) that the metashaders2 folder is always empty after closing DCS - but the FXO folder always has files in it (which I delete every single time before I boot DCS). Have never had an issue with textures (and the TGP image) after doing this. Cheers, Ziptie

Ideally, they would be sequenced for order of usage. Channel 1 for the first phase of flight operation, channel 2 for the second phase of flight operation, channel 3 for the third phase of flight operation, etc etc etc. This seems to rarely be the case for missions - aside from the Raven One Campaign. Also, you would have the comm sheet for reference on your kneeboard - ideally. Cheers, Ziptie

Well I have seen (on more occasions than I could count) that when fired upon by a SAM, engaging the jammer on the A10C I/II makes the incoming missile go "stupid" almost immediately. Of course, you still need to maneuver, as it isn't a magic "now you can't see me" tool. I appreciate what the person did for testing in the video, but those are not my experiences. SAM1 and SAM2 make a difference, depending on the threat. AAA definitely makes a difference (although this is the least concerning of the radar guided surface to air threats). As for air to air threat, I engage the jammer but not sure the effectiveness of that portion - I'm lucky to fly in a server where actual CAP cover is a thing. Best defense against a surface to air missile is still to "drive them into the ground" - in my opinion. But we've all got opinions, like another thing. Happy Holidays everybody. Cheers, Ziptie

I haven't played this campaign in at least a year (possibly more) - but when I did, I set mark points on the surface to air threats - then employed JDAMs on them from above the cloud layer, to avoid being shot down. Then used Maverick employment on the surface to air threats that were further inside the compound. As for commanding the wingman to attack things, I've personally always found this "feature" as near useless with DCS. Hope that helps. Cheers, Ziptie

Training missions are confusing with bugs and inconsistencies
Ziptie replied to imacken's topic in Missions and Campaigns
Terrific. I will try them when I am home. Cheers, Ziptie -
Is this the mission where you are striking the enemy camp that is in the mountains? Where there are AAA emplacements on the left and right sides of the entrance to the complex, and there is an enemy helo that is reported to be on site and lifting? Cheers, Ziptie

The fact that I haven't tried the mission "recently" is how you should word that - and that is because I know what I'm doing and don't require the training, along with the fact that I haven't been able to fly as I'm on holiday away from my gaming PC. As stated, I will try when I get back from holiday. Thanks. Cheers, Ziptie -
When I last flew DCS (approx 4 days ago but with most recent OB update), the last created mark point still showed in the HMCS display as expected, with the CDU switch to MISSION or FLT PLN. When in the MARK position, showed all of them. Possible that you had slewed the HDC and created the mark point in a different location that you expected (indicated by the HMCS LOS resembling cross if the HDC has been slewed away from LOS)? Cheers, Ziptie

Training missions are confusing with bugs and inconsistencies
Ziptie replied to imacken's topic in Missions and Campaigns
Haven't had the need to do any of the training missions for the A10C in years. Have I tried the mission, yes. Recently, no. This still shouldn't make it so you cannot place whatever sensor display on either MFD. Are you saying that the training mission doesn't allow you to do this, with the method that I outlined in my previous post? If so, I'm not sure how that can even be limited via the mission editor, as that isn't something that can be limited, ever. EDIT: When I return home after Christmas, I'll boot up the mission and give it a go to see what all the fuss is about. Cheers, Ziptie -

You can set any sensor display, to either MFD. Just press and HOLD one of the lower OSBs until the page changes, then select what sensor display you want and press the OSB location on the bottom row you want to place that sensor display at. Cheers, Ziptie -
Have never flown in that server so I apologize, I cannot speak on how their mission is setup. Hope someone else can assist you with this issue. Are you able to click on the airfield icon (blue circle with white slash through it) and see what freq's are listed there? Should show you the xxx.xxx format, from all the missions I've flown in. Cheers, Ziptie

Right, I was just curious about it because you said you got the indication on the DDI. Wasn't aware the DDI would display that without that switch be in the armed/enable position. To be fair, I've not really performed maneuvers like that in my short 3 year DCS experience. Primarily fly the A10C and Hornet secondary, and have never been in a situation where that maneuver (or a stall of any sort really) has been introduced. Cheers, Ziptie
