Dappman Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 (edited) Sorry for the noob question, and I did look this up but it still doesn't make sense to me. What's wrong with the servers we have now, and what is a dedicated server? My understanding right now with the current servers is if the host leaves the server is closed? And a dedicated server would prevent that? Edited June 24, 2015 by Dappman

And a dedicated server would prevent that? Guys lets keep the discussion on topic, I believe there are threads on dedicated servers around these forums, or feel free to start a new one in the wishlist section with all you would like to see for it. And a dedicated server would prevent that? a dedicated server file is a file that doesnt do anythings else except of creating a server host. It also provides certain Multiplayer features such as enabling Admins to administrate a server. At the moment we´re able to do this only by running complex scriptssets that also require an advance knowledge in LUA script handling. By using a dedicated server file those features would be available automatically....it would enhance Multiplayer Experience...sorry Sith :) BlackSharkDen | BSD Discord | DCS Tutorial Collection
thxne Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 Dedicated servers would definitely be sweet. It gets annoying when you finally take off from the runway and 15min later while flying, you get a disconnect message. Anyway, according to my email, I missed a stream this morning (10am PST). Can anyone verify if I missed anything?

thxne Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 Ah, thanks, Sith. Really looking forward to the next stream. The view over the water and city was absolutely amazing.

leafer Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 Don't think I'll feel like winging around Caucasus when Neveda is soooo much better looking. ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P
dartuil Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 Will we be able to get to others maps without changing game? EinsteinEP Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 Don't think I'll feel like winging around Caucasus when Neveda is soooo much better looking. I know people are chomping at the mouth for something...er, anything new to fly in, but I am really looking forward to seeing the facelift on old stomping grounds. True, the meshes and textures are the same, but the lighting effect changes are different enough to make a noticeable impact. Folks who fly ONLY Nevada in DCS World 2.0 will be missing half the experience. Shoot to Kill. Play to Have Fun.

Folks who fly ONLY Nevada in DCS World 2.0 will be missing half the experience. Same here. I'm pretty sure i'll fly the old map just as much as NTTR , the maps are just so geographically different it really doesnt matter the textures look weaker in the original map
Silver_Dragon Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Interesting comparation of NTTR map of 21 and 28 Stream, that can be extended 100-200 km or more to any direction (and wags tell NTTR can be extended to reach the california coast). Other point has that has gained detaill (see the death valley mountains) Stream 21 Stream 28 For Work/Gaming: 28" Philips 246E Monitor - Ryzen 7 1800X - 32 GB DDR4 - nVidia RTX1080 - SSD 860 EVO 1 TB / 860 QVO 1 TB / 860 QVO 2 TB - Win10 Pro - TM HOTAS Warthog / TPR / MDF
rrohde Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 I notice that Wags mentioned in the June 28 stream that each 3D object casts a shadow, however, I noticed that even though each building generates a shadow, buildings in the way of another building do not receive a shadow from the first building. In other words, buildings seem to cast shadows only onto the ground - not onto other buildings. This is especially apparent when looking at buildings that are next to the large hotels and casinos in Las Vegas. Will this be fixed/addressed/improved, or is that a limitation of the engine? rrohde Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 It was the shadow mode he was using - he explained the difference in the Live stream. Nate So flat shadows is what he demoed for this stream - projected shadows will allow shadows to be cast onto other buildings then. Thanks. :) PC: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X | MSI Suprim GeForce 3090 TI | ASUS Prime X570-P | 128GB DDR4 3600 RAM | 2TB Samsung 870 EVO SSD | Win10 Pro 64bit Gear: HP Reverb G2 | JetPad FSE | VKB Gunfighter Pro Mk.III w/ MCG Ultimate VKBcontrollers.com
SilentGun Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 So in the second picture that Silver_Dragon posted, wags said that it extended even more than that, was that a mistake or does it really go out that far in each direction? Nate @rrhode, this shadow mode can be adjusted right in the Settings. Check the stream from it´s Archiv...ist pretty much at the beginning when Wags has explained all that stuff. Cibit Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Worth mentioning that 46 GB is the size of the NTTR map:music_whistling: i5 8600k@5.2Ghz, Asus Prime A Z370, 32Gb DDR4 3000, GTX1080 SC, Oculus Rift CV1, Modded TM Warthog Modded X52 Collective, Jetseat, W10 Pro 64 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Adding JTAC Guide //My Vid's//229th AHB
King_Hrothgar Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 I have an SSD already, but might need to clear some space for that. That's pretty big for a single map and Nevada isn't one I'm really looking forwards to that much (to me it's only a generic desert map until something better comes).

ED Team NineLine Posted June 28, 2015 ED Team Posted June 28, 2015 The version Matt used today was one version rolled back I believe. He wasnt happy about a comms bug in the new version so for the Stream he used a slightly older build I believe... Forum Rules • My YouTube • My Discord - NineLine#0440• **How to Report a Bug**
