I got newsletter in my inbox in part says "...This weekend only we are offering the F-15C Eagle and Su-27 Flanker for DCS World to fly for free, both on our e-shop and on Steam.". Not seeing anything in E-shop. Am I missing something?

It usually shows up in the module manager as something you can download. Not entirely sure how Steam handles it — maybe it just allows you to check it as an optional download?

Hi

they will be free to try for the weekend and you will be able to install using your module manager if you are standalone version.

With steam they will become active for use for the weekend

thanks

Improve 3D scaning has a new project? has ED talking someone about start to make a infantry simulator or something? :music_whistling: or only has making a steep forward started with the motion capture with carrier crew. Remember Minsk Studio team was a motion capture / 3D rendered station on your studio on 2018.

Hi silver_dragon,

As they've also said they plan on finishing the hornet and viper this year. And the reason given that it wasnt yet announced what that mystery plane would be is that they want to do just that first. So no, they havent moved onto a different project

They could simply be showing off a new toy they got.

Is there a newsletter this week? I hadn't noticed anything

By the way, since they're showing up - same story in a different context. Since I bought the Supercarrier which isn't even on OB yet, the MM prompts me to install the Su-33 although I've got FC3 installed which contains the Su-33 already. You guys should make the MM not offer the single FC3 planes when the whole pack is already installed as there is no point in installing the single module as well.

Is there a newsletter this week? I hadn't noticed anything

^^ This. Very much this. And yes, I know it's there already, but I have to place a suggestion here for the ED guys. I've been pressing MiG28 probably way more often than I needed to and was wondering the same, simply because the newsletter has been posted via a post that has been created on 02-29-2020, 12:33 AM, most probably in a hidden section that's just accesible by the team, and then just moved over to the actual news room. Due to the old post date, it won't show up as new and since it's even been created in February already (probably being worked on until today via edits though), I didn't even care opening up that thread since that's literally almost a week ago. Now here comes by suggestion for you guys: Instead of moving the post from your dev-only section where you tailor the thing together until it is ready for release, edit that post, copy out everything and paste it to a new one in the news section. That should help us noticing there's something new actually. The only issue I could see there would be reuploading and reinserting the attachments though. Maybe it would also be possible to merge the contents via the admin dashboard which I don't know as a normal user.

Yes correct, its because the system sees it as the standalone SU-33 and not the FC3 one but dont worry it will disable it because of your FC3. I will pass on your feedback.

I would expect a better explanation in the newsletter about core sim features current state, seeing such huge performance downgrades in 2.5.6 worries me alot (about -50% specially on VR).

Instead of showing resources spent on infantry 3d modelling..., IMHO this has zero interest in a combat flight simulator. Taking into account that maybe those high details models will cap fps performance more than now... Instead doing those things, please, focus now all effort in improving / fixing performance, vulkan support, new/improved graphic engine, etc

the price is indeed cheap for this kind of product

Hyvä pointti / a good point.

But then, the competition would look for a better markup anyway, and flight sims just don't provide that, so no competition. Sad, but true.

ED is investigating those issues... do you think that results coincide with a newsletter? Or that developer work goes on outside of our weekly news peek and extends perhaps to several weeks?

Not sure what the mocap work in Minsk might have to do with the developers working on the DCS core issues in Moscow...?

Because solving a programming problem by throwing 3D artists at it doesn't really make sense.

We could also be dealing with a problem that invokes Brooks' Law - I'm guessing the current problems plaguing 2.5.6 aren't all that divisible.

How is "This weekend only we are offering the F-15C Eagle and Su-27 Flanker for DCS World to fly for free, both on our e-shop and on Steam. " and "make sure to take advantage of the free weekend 6th to 9th March." confusing?

Instead of showing resources spent on infantry 3d modelling..., IMHO this has zero interest in a combat flight simulator.

Consider this for a moment:

What if ED has big plans for Combined Arms? We know they hired an RTS specialist, probably for the dynamic campaign but what if CA is going to get expanded to include ARMA-type gameplay? What if, because of "passive development", and to avoid certain developers having to pick their noses they started working on these better models with Combined Arms 2.0 in mind?

Would it still be a waste of resources? Would it still be of zero interest for DCS?

What if that human template can be used later on to create VR pilot models in an easier fashion, for both future and existing modules?

Surely. But their spaghetti code (Kate's own term) isn't our fault. This is the technical debt they've been building up for years, coming home to roost.

I never said it was our fault - though I'll agree that it was most likely something that has built up.

Anyone seen the pilot model F-16C Block 52? They look like a Lego Alien. It’s a small thing that will make big difference. Everyone loved the head movement for Tomcat when that came out. I see this as the expansion, they have a whole office for MOCAP that needs to stay busy if they’re done capturing movement for Carrier Crew.

I don't know why people think throwing more devs at a problem will solve it quicker. Software development does not work that way. ED is already working on fixing the issues and they have resources to use on other aspects of the sim. What's wrong with that.

Can you imagine what a dynamic campaign would do to FPS performance with 2.5.6's current state?!? Good thing that feature is probably three or more years out. :)
