rrohde
In the newsletter new clouds are mentioned. Will they be volumetric? There's one screenshot floating around that ED for some reason shared on that privacy violating website that has nothing to do with DCS and ED - but they didn't share it here on their own forums... Airhunter
Will we get new S-200 Vega SAM in next OB update? I have been waiting for it so long... Would like to know that as well. Tippis
Clouds: A very anticipated improvement coming to DCS is already making progress. Just a few of the improvements we are looking to add to this are (the following is subject to change): Different cloud types, such as: Cumulus Сumulonimbus Сirrus And variations. [*]Localized precipitation [*]Multiple cloud layers [*]Multi-player synchronization [*]Lower Performance overhead with minimal to no “pop-in” This is a neat list, but it's a bit worrying that the by far most critical component isn't even mentioned: the toolset to make any of that happen. Hopefully it's not just a visual spit-shine and an MP bugfix, but an actual update and improvement of how clouds work in the game. ❧ ❧ Inside you are two wolves. razo+r
you sure? 100% Another proof is the noise on the model. Doesn't happen in DCS that way.
ED Team NineLine Posted November 8, 2019 Author ED Team Share Posted November 8, 2019 And I'm concerned there is no mention in any of that of clouds impacting the effectiveness of IR sensors... Of course, the goal is to have clouds do what clouds should do. They are in heavy development right now, and we will discuss what they can and can't do when its the appropriate time, thanks. REDEYE_CVW-66
They have stated before that a complete rewrite of the weather engine is underway. I’ll “be happy” if we ever actually see any results, and based off ED statements on other sites any substantive improvements to core DCS (ATC, weather, ME, Combined Arms) are still a very long way off. Tippis
They have stated before that a complete rewrite of the weather engine is underway. Let us be happy that this field, which is severely outdated get some love The problem is that, even with a complete rewrite of the engine, there is nothing to be happy about unless there is also a complete rewrite of the toolset to make that engine do anything. That toolset is not only outdated, but at the very edge of non-existent so its getting some love would be a far more important thing to bring up and illustrate. It may not “sell” as much, or look as nice in screenshots, but of the two, it's actually the one that matters more. So yeah, it's a bit worrying that it is never mentioned at all. ❧ ❧ Inside you are two wolves. One cannot land; the other shoots friendlies. We have shown screenshots of clouds, CA is getting a large core fix, but is just waiting on 2.5.6, the issue with long paths and bringing servers to its knees. Of course, many things take long development periods, but you need to decide, do these development reports make you sad because of this, or do you like the extra info we are trying to share?
