I think that Vulkan will kick into high gear once multicore is done. This is because there is likely major work involved in separating out the graphics engine portion in first place, in order to allow it to run on its own thread (or several). Once that's done, they'll be able to have at it without interfering with the other code as much.

It is possible they're working on switching between Vulkan and DX, but that's a waste of time, IMO. The only reason to do this would be to support GPUs that don't have Vulkan drivers, and a GeForce 500 isn't exactly the recommended hardware for DCS.

As I was sitting here doing a biophysics assignment I looked up to my screen idling on the 5th (I think) of October's patch's changelog, only for it to disappear from the list of changelogs when I refreshed my screen, and it stays gone now after multiple refreshes. The last one I can see is the 30th of September one. I.e. either something just magically broke or ED is doing something to the changelogs :)))

20+ years of IT experience has taught me that the Friday release ban relates to not wanting a production outage or major issue over the weekend and not having people available to fix it... That isn't the case with DCS, people can always roll back, it's a beta, get it out there when you think you're done, waiting over the weekend isn't going to achieve anything...

I quite agree. Just that not everybody shares our understanding of business criticality 🙂

It is delayed until I come home from work, otherwise you rascals would crash the server.

Ok guys, what is the first quick mission and plane you will fly 2.8 at?

For me it will be the Hornet cold start in Persian Gulf off Supercarrier. Unfortunately it will have to be hopefully next week, have to get clearance from my surgeon after my spinal surgery.  So I will be watching your guys posts in here with great excitement.

PG is a weird choice though, when you think about it. When a new cloud system is the main feature of the update.... 😅

Unless it features sand storms..... 😄

While we're waiting let's remember the forgotten celebration of the first birthday of the one-and-only Multicore Development Report, born on 15th October 2021!
We have no idea what technologies 2.8 will include, but based on that report a year ago I had high hopes back then to have 3.0 including MC and Vulkan integration by now, not 2.8...
Anyway, patience is golden, so waiting for the patch.

Remember that has on closed beta, and continue on develop.

I thought PG was an odd choice to introduce new lighting systems as well. I figured caucuses would have been the first pick since its the most played.  I like PG and welcome the addition either way. Maybe its a good OB test on a map with lower player volume to get bugs out before making changes to others🤷‍♂️ Personally I don’t play a lot of night/ evening missions since having exported mfd’s makes the in-cockpit ones abhorrently bright, even in night mode with brightness all the way down to the point you cant see the exported mfd’s . I’d love to see that fixed, but that has been an on-going thing for a long time

If I understand correctly from this video, PG terrain itself will be enhanced, therefore picking it also for the new night lights sounds reasonable. Besides that, I would choose least played map for a new tech, which can ruin something (performance for example).

You mean that's not just me?  Nice to know.  I do a lot of night, just because landing in the dark is so much cooler, but I have to consciously use the exported MFDs and not look in the cockpit because of the brightness issues.  I have never landed on a carrier at night, just because I haven't had the time (inclination) to learn case III.

Rarely fly PG, mostly because my parents aren't around to provide guidance (anyone else remember when that was GP?), but once this release comes out I'm going to start.

Oh, and after I get my cockpit remapped.  Really looking forward to the announced changes.
