I'm enjoying the confusion.

"Okay... so the new map replaces an old map and a newer older map but you can still use the newer older map which won't be completely replaced because only the older map will be supplanted by the new map that only partially replaces the newer older map which will still be sold but not required since the new map replaces it and the older map which won't be sold any more, but not really."

T'is as clear as the summer sun. :smoke:

I believe ED partnered with Ugra to bring the two maps together and expand it. In the future we will find out. The important thing is that I will buy the Normandy 2.

What makes you believe that?

👍

That would be even better, because I'd rather have one map to "rule them all", than several smaller, adjacent ones clogging up valuable SSD space. Also, a lot more potential for larger, longer-range missions (more "natural" bomber escort).

Now I'm hoping for Syria 2, which should include Iraq, and maybe overlap somewhat with the upcoming Sinai map. 🙂

After Normandy 2 release they should even stop selling Normandy 1 and Channel separately to keep confusion out of new players and splitting the community by having different versions of one map.

why people is assuming that Normandy 2 will include the same area as the Channel map?

They can't, stop selling channel map.

While it does look like campgians made for Normandy 1 will work on Normandy 2(or so it's claimed) Channel map campaigns will not work on Normandy 2. So you can't just stop selling Channel map  thereby rendering several campaigns unplayable.

The situation is not clear so people are guessing. It would be good to see a picture of the new map.

Because a square that covers Paris and London will have to cover the area of the channel map. Also in the promo materials there are some pictures of high detailed landmarks of that area.

Still an assumption though. A clarification would be welcome.

Isn't it the same location? That's why I believe it's the junction of the two maps.

Those sure are nice pics. 😎

I guess we'll just have to wait for a map pic. Until then, we guess.

For me I would prefer to have a complete merger of the two existing maps, so that I only have the one map after I hit install.   NineLine has stated that it’s unclear at this time how the assets will be managed and what the implementation will look like in its completed form.

I wish people would read through all the comments before they post questions because a lot of times you’ll find the answer you seek without wasting your energy.

It would be nice to be able to install Normandy 2 and then uninstall the other two to save disk space, without losing anything.

Glad to hear about N2 !

Yeah, uninstalling the old normandy map and The Channel to save some disk space, is what I think too to consider. For me it only depends, if going on with a campaign, which is not ported to Normandy 2 and if the performance makes it reasonable for public server to switch to Normandy 2 from Normandy 1 or The Channel map.

I mean why the confusion? Practically everything between London and Paris is on the new Normandy 2 map ...

I'm as confused as anyone. But watching Reflected's video it seems NM2 is not a replacement for the other two, and to play the campaigns, they need to be installed.

Soon there will be Caucasus 3.0 because current map was updated with DCS 1.5 and Syria 2.0 and Persian Gulf 2.0 with map extensions but you will need to own previous maps for missions and campaigns. Kind of getting VEAO vibes when they been allowed to release Hawk with two different flight models, on the same server for one plane... One person will have mountains with more polygons so if you going to chase someone one person going to crash on mountain side and the other not. 😄

Because with the size stated above And including both London and Paris which we know are included in the Normandy 2.0 map, the area covers looks like this, which clearly covers the area in the channel map as well.

Granted it remains to be seen if we are right or not, BUT I can’t see any other reason why ownership of the Channel map would get you a discount on a 3rd partys map otherwise.   IF it didn’t make the Channel map redundant there would be no need to award owners of that map a discount.

BUT I guess only time will tell.

Are you sure about this frame? I'm confused. Will be unified map or what? Some ED @BIGNEWY @NineLine can answer, or already answered?

Best regards.

The e-Shop would likely put them in depreciated status.

I am very happy with the news, and I am grateful to ED and third parties for what has been produced so far.

But I also think that the new modules and maps make the vulkan and multicore update more and more necessary.

It helps my poor SSD and Mission Generating, Campaigns and eventually Dynamic Campaigns,

1 Map Covering likely both area's + more, vs 2 maps splitting missions and campaign missions between the 2.
