is it available yet, as it is still not showing up in my Terrain modules?

Yes, it's available for those that have updated DCS to its latest release (version 2.9.17.11733 )

You can take off and land the Phantom from Ushi Airport very easily. I know because I have done it. The largest airfields are Agana and Orote in the south of the map.

Great first impressions, but it desperately needs the Japanese WWII fighters in the sim even if it is AI only.

Ironically, it is currently more fitting to Vietnam scenarios than WWII atm. 😅

I remember that Zero will be AI at first, but will become a module in the future.

Can't ED or a 3rd-party do a Vietnam Theater Map - 1968-ish, even as an interim with this level of vegetation?  I say "Vietnam Theater" because it "should" cover a lot of Thailand and Laos, too.  I suppose that may be a 150 GB+ map, though!  Takhli, Korat, Ubon, Udorn, and Nakhon Phanom are all in Thailand.  The F-4E, F-100D, A-1H, A-7E, A-6E, A-4E-C, MiG-17, MiG-19 and MiG-21 will all find homes on that map.  ...coming in 2027? 😃 Then enhance the vegetation later.

But right now, I'm going to try to get this Marianas WWII map and the F4U-1D!!

It is something we would like to do, but it would require some technical improvements to be able to do it justice, the amount of trees alone is going to be huge. So possibly something for the future.

My impressions of this map after flying for a while is that it simply looks great.

I am not noticing any significant differences in terms of FPS compared to the modern map. But FPS below VR headset refresh is much smoother for some reason. So the overall experience is much better. 

Edit: after more testing there is no difference between maps.

In my case there are terrible stutters flying low over Guam. Other islands doesnt have so may forest and trees and are better, but Guam is a Stutter festival, terrible FPS flying low.

I have compared tracks on Marianas WWII and modern with an FU4 flying over Guam. FPS is 72 over sea at 6000ft. Moving closer to land FPS drops to about 60 FPS. At lower altitude it drops to 45-50 FPS with ground stutter.

WWII Marianas looks great, and I am very pleased that it has been released, but for me there is no performance improvement. 

Update (25 June 25): I am finding that performance is better for me in VR without using QVFR. I need to do more testing.

That's right, visual aspects for this are perfect here - for F-4, F-5 or Huey, More to happiness - just a larger area would be useful. I also have the same impression.

Visually I am very happy with the new Marianas WWII map !  Thanks ED ! really immersive ! 

Initial impressions seem to indicate dropping FPS quite a lot when flying low and over the trees......

You got it wrong. This map is for F4U, not F-4E :thumbup:

There seems to be a performance hit below about 2000ft; FPS drops to about 50-65. Above this I can maintain a steady 72 FPS (VR).

Nice. You’ll have to put it all together as a ‘railway assets pack’ and post em in user files.

Good to have the choice. Glad they sorted the rails out eventually 🙂

I had a quick look.

Somehow I had two locos that were going forward and backing up a bit, then repeating it. Was quite amusing and probably something I’d messed up but there’s plenty to look at next time.

It would be awesome to have a little feature in the Future to have the 4500ft and longer runways in a 1960'ish style? More straight and with tarmac? Would be the closest to a Vietnam feeling and even enhance the feeling and the value of the map (usability wise)

And with the right Tools not too much work, I guess 😉
