The DCS: Afghanistan Map is now available for pre-purchase

20 years of the War on Terror and the Soviet operations of the 1980s place Afghanistan as one of the most important combat theatres of the past half century. Few war zones have ever seen more A-10C, AH-64D, F-16C, F/A-18C, CH-47F, Mi-24P, Mi-8MTV2, and Su-25 sorties.

The entire map of Afghanistan and small portions of neighbouring countries will be available, showcasing our latest map technologies at a superb level of detail and fidelity.

DCS: Afghanistan is offered with a special 30% discount at $48.99 during pre-purchase. The early access release price will be set at 20% off, or $55.99, until the final release.

We have also decided to make this map more accessible by offering users the option of purchasing regions separately: Southwest, East and North. Each region will be offered as a separate release at approximately 3 months interval. Today, you can pre-purchase DCS: Southwest Afghanistan for $23.99 instead of the release price in June 2024 that will be set at $29.99. DCS: East Afghanistan and DCS: North Afghanistan will be offered for purchase as and when they are ready, later this year.

The early access release of DCS: Afghanistan will focus on a detailed southwestern and encompass 12 airfields, including Kandahar and Herat. Whilst the entire map is under development, the Southwest region is currently the most complete. The second region to be released will be the Eastern region and finally the Northern region. DCS: Afghanistan FAQ.

Please keep in mind that even if you purchase only one region, you will still be able to play online across the whole map. Only the non-purchased regions will be in lower detail.

The upcoming OH-58D is strangely absent from both the trailer & this list, despite extensive use there. Why no love from ED?

Many modules didn't make it in there, it was a short video and the focus was Afghanistan. Many times our video guys can only use what they have access to or other reasons. The Kiowa will get its day in the sun soon.

Thank you for this amazing work. Really impressive. I'm thinking about buying the whole map ... Can you confirm that the entire map in High Detail requires about 120GB?

When we have firm info on the size we can share. Thanks.

Don't really like the idea of selling partial maps. I realize they can all be played online with lower detail, just makes things inconsistent.

If someone buys a small portion of the map, will they be able to upgrade to the full map at the cost difference? Or will it be $30 + $30 + $30 each $90 instead of $70)?

And for future maps it would be nice if there was something aside from deserts/middle east. Even Nevada is a desert. I don't mind them, but another map with lots of green would be a nice change of pace. With Sinai and Iraq coming we'll have a large portion of the middle east done, but I hope there is something else in the works that isn't more of the same.

There is South Atlantic but that is just one out of 6 modern day maps. The two free maps are of course nice, but one is very small and the other is over a decade old.

Well since the 3 parts X $30 = $90, they will pay $90 if they don't buy the whole thing up front for $70 yes.  ED have explicitly said in a post somewhere that you WILL NOT get a discount for buying all the individual parts, only if you buy the whole thing in one shot.

As long as that is clear before buying that would be helpful.

Personally looking forward to Iraq but after that I really want to see a non-desert map.

If you buy a portion of the map, you can still fly in the other portions of the map, it will just not be in high resolution or detail until you buy those portions as well.

It has been clearly explained in Thursday announement and FAQ, but I've noticed many people tend to NOT read announements and FAQs thoroughly (I'm not calling you out, mind you).

Granted, I haven't checked if that info is easily available in game store as well.

IMHO, it doesn't say they WILL let you buy the individual segments with a discount to be the same price, so why would you assume they will let you?  The logic assumption to me would be I'll get a discount for buying more things at once than buying individual things unless explicitly told otherwise.

This map looks awesome! I noticed in the trailer that the AV-8B from RAZBAM is wearing RAF livery - see attached screen grab from the trailer and photo of an RAF Harrier GR9. Is this a hint that RAZBAM Might be bringing the RAF Harrier GR9 to DCS? They have previously developed this variant for other sims. USMC were also using their Harriers in-theatre, so they could have included existing liveries in the trailer and still have been authentic to what was flying in-theatre.

Ron Zambrano when interviewed on the now defunct ACS podcast said Razbam initially intended to model the GR9 and Illustrious. They modeled the USMC version when information on the RAF version made this impossible.

Same goes for the Sea Harrier.  Information on UK stuff remains classified for a long time it seems.

And that's why we still don't have a full fidelity Sopwith Camel!

isn't the GR 9 and Marine harrier quite close in capabilities. As close many other (loadouts makes it close enough)

I think the GR9 could use Amraams (though without air to air radar)

But in air to ground. I think they are quite close.

Quite a bit about the differences in this thread.

GR9 with radar and a full a-a loadout would have been very interesting. Damn the bean counters… 🤑  GR9 could have supplemented increasing numbers of F35Bs on the QE carriers for some time. Would have given the RN airborne anti shipping capability with Sea Eagle and possible later derivations also.
