I just thought of something, the Ferte Alais map worked because it’s not a map but a single place able object for the mission editor...Maybe we could commission someone with the skills?

Nevada map should be expanded to include China Lake Naval Weapons Center and NAS Fallon air bases. They are within the map now, but only as lower res satellite imagery. Make them fully detailed like Nellis AFB and Creech AFB. Also, it would be nice to have Edwards AFB and its dry lake bed runways, for fun. Such a historic place. Mojave Airport, Inyokern Airport and Bicycle Lake Airport would be nice additions, too, in California. As for expanding the boundaries of this Test and Training Range map, extend to the north east to include the Utah Test Range, all the way to Hill AFB and the Salt Lake City Area. This would include Dugway Proving Grounds and the smaller Wendover, Ely and Elko airports. It's about 325NM from Hill AFB to Nellis AFB as well as to NAS Fallon, and about 260NM between Fallon and Nellis. This would make a nice sized area for longer range missions. China Lake is just 135NM west-southwest of Nellis, and a nice, long 423NM from Hill AFB. As for the San Diego and Los Angeles areas: Make them a separate map called the SoCal Map, to include MCAS Miramar, NAS North Island, MCAS Camp Pendleton and NAS Pt Mugu and the Pacific Missile Test Center range (PMTC) that extends into the Pacific ocean, including the Channel Islands, Catalina Island, San Nicolas Island and San Clemente Islands. Include some 300 or 400NM out into the Pacific Ocean. Then, if possible, make a flyable transition corridor between the SoCal map and the Nevada map. Do not bother with the detailing of every house in the Los Angeles basin to San Diego megopolis. Too much. Just make it a good resolution satellite image. Main object is military bases and training ranges, I think.

they replied that it will not be possible because they have already reached the physical limit of map size in dcs.

And then they decided to make Marianas map 1000x1000 NM.

I know, that's all water ... they don't have any calculation problems

Not much extra then. I would think Fallon would have been a good and suited addition, even with much buffer. Never seen what happens when you get to the edge of a map though.....

I once heard the engine would physicaly support a DCS World map, but also that it would be too big in file size and they would need to omptimize lots of things...

Can't find a post or anything else though.

North towards Mountain Home AFB, N-E towards Hill AFB and S-W/W towards Miramar / San Diego including important stuff inbetween (Edwards, China Lake, Yosemite) would be a sweet dream.

Only S-W (China Lake and Edwards) would be very nice already.

They could directly make an ocean corridor towards the marinas... :pilotfly:

For the really bad ass long range AAR junkies :joystick:

And coincidentally Hawaii would be right in that corridor... If you not prefer an optimised route for a sphere shaped earth :megalol:

Don't think it pays off to update a map that's the least used from all. The map is great but it is better to focus on the maps that are in more use.

NAS Fallon would be a welcome, and dare I say needed addition to the NTTR.

Here, here . . +1 on that statement!

I am fully aware that NTTR is considered feature complete as it is, but the question exists, why don't you capitalize on the fact that you have a map that could easily incorporate huge U.S. Naval air Stations such as Fallon, Lemoore, China Lake, etc. With the huge U.S. Navy virtual squadron presence here in the game, I don't understand why this isn't even considered.

My understanding is that adding anything else to this map breaches the 8GB Min Ram Spec. Its a limitation of the engine atm which I am hoping ED address in the future.

Hey everyone

Having flown in Syria, which is a huge AO, I’m wondering if China Lake and NAS Fallon could be incorporated now? It seems the 8GB limit is not a predominant worry anymore...

I get the feeling around the comunity that purchasing the NTTR is a waste of money, but IMHO it is a great, but incomplete AO. I’m sure many of us would like to see that change!

No reason why we shouldn't model China Lake and Fallon, Bicycle Lake (for A-10's) and Kingman in Arizona for casual flying. I love this map. Edwards Air Force Base is also there and waiting to be created! What a map it would be! Never knew what a Joshua tree was till I flew this map, go figure!!!

I disagree with this.

I think a lot of people try to make NTTR what it isn't, and get disappointed when their expectations aren't met.

It's designed around Nellis operations into the NTTR. Not Fallon, not Lemoore, not China Lake, not Edwards.

If you use the intended airports, and use the depicted airspace as the map is designed, you will have an excellent experience, and feel the AO is complete.

The Red Flag campaigns highlight this point well. I really wish we had more users that wanted an authentic Nevada training experience, especially when NATO aircraft are so heavily represented.

I fired my first Viper Maverick and HARM on the one dedicated testing and training map we have, using actual target ranges. Because why would I conduct testing and training anywhere else?

Its interesting that Ive seen a few statements that further expansion of NTTR would push it over the 8GB minimum spec, but at the same time Syria has so much more content so I dont know quite how that issue comes about. At this point though I am more looking forward to marinaras. though if they ever get a multi map transition occurring, I would rather see IRAQ and Turkey modelled to allow a transition between Syria, Caucasus and PG

I was in a F14 squad in the early 80’s out of Miramar, when not on a cruz they would send us to Fallon for live ordinance runs. Fallon should definitely be a base on this map, do some training stuff. Especially for the F14

The reason, presumably, is that Syria is new, and probably much better designed, optimization-wise. You can squeeze out more detail for a given memory load if you're smart with texture sizes, shared UV maps, and the like. NTTR, if it was to be redone with this in mind, could probably be made larger (or kept as-is, but use less memory) if proper optimization was done for it. ED is notably sloppy about this kind of thing, go look up threads about 4k normal maps if you don't believe it. NTTR in particular has a lot of unique buildings, more than Syria, I think, and I wouldn't be surprised to find similar inefficiencies in their textures.
