Phase 4 should definitely be the whole south of Germany. We had so many airbases here but it is sad to see that they will more or less be completely ignored

Wow, fantastic news! I can't believe it... but it looks like Phase 3 can include both CFB Baden-Söllingen and CFB Lahr in southwestern Germany. That is phenomenal! Can't wait to fly the F-15C full fidelity out of Bitburg or Spang and later on hopefully a CF-18 out of CFB Baden... yess!

From a WW2 perspective:

• Just looking at that map, phase 3 looks like it'll include Arnhem and Nijmegen.
• Also has enough on the western side to include Boddenplatte, the bulge etc, with us able to use allied bases in northern France.
• Plenty of cities in the middle to conduct bomber intercepts.   We'll finally have a genuine location to use the K4 and D9

Very happy with and very much looking forward to the Cold War Germany map!

OTOH, a little sad that there's no South Germany planned, so no Fürstenfeldbruck, Memmingen, Lechfeld, Erding....

Almost every plane we have in DCS, other than the WW2 props, is a Cold War era plane.  People seem to forget that the Cold War didn't end in 1975, it ended in 1991, and included the entire first decade of the computer revolution.  There were plenty of planes with MFDs, HUDs, FLIRs, and other technology that is still relevant today.  The F-15C, F-16C, and F-18C are all Cold War planes, and so is the F-15E.  It's always fun to see the Viggen brought up in this context as well, since the AJS-37 that we have in the game didn't enter service until after the Cold War (1993 or so).

Although I do think it would be great if ED could add an option to the Mission Editor to restrict pilot helmet options, so missions could enforce whether HMD and/or NVGs are available.  Other than weapons, that's probably the single biggest and most noticeable anachronism for a Cold War setting for the F-16 and F-18.

 

I am aware that the cold war can be considered till around 1990s around and that what we have right now works, but that is only with the bluforce, or the NATO folks. But the cold war map, at least for me is only complete with the opposite side addition of planes other than the addition of the upcoming Mig 29 and the Mig 21 that we have.

But surely would love to see other peak cold war jets which can be done and there are no secrecy excuse, and that is for the Mig 23 (RAZBAM debacle killed this which is just sad), Mig 27 and the Su-7/17/22 series. Wish we could get the early versions of the Su-27 or the Su-30, yes, I guess Su-30 and 27 is just asking too much. I am not sure on Su-30 as that became operational only after 1991.

 

Then the other blueforce jets of cold war era faction which can be done is, the Hawker Hunter, Jaguar and EE Lightning.

 

We already have a lot of blue force cold war era peak, Mirage F1, F-4, F-5, F-14, A-10 and the upcoming F-104, A-7, F-8, G-91 etc...a lot!!

For the reds we got the Mig 21, Mig 15, then the possibly unsupported Mig 19 and the upcoming Mig 29. Just this, and for me, it is not complete without the opposing side modules as well with this laughably small collection. I am not counting the non FF modules.

 

On a side note, how many red force campaigns do we have that have the immersive flight plan briefing like the blue force?
