Where did you find these?

There's a whole bunch of screenshots http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1309446#post1309446

By the way, after watching that new kickstarter video, where they talk about EDGE being good looking, mature and easy to work with engine, those threads about "why they won't use cryengine or whatever" looks kinda ridiculous now :)

Still way behind where Gaijin is in scenery but i think they are catching up with EDGE.

I think the limitation is the lighting engine. That makes a big difference. But definitely still WIP so still cannot make a judgement yet.

I'm really surprised they (ED) are done with EDGE; and how come DCS World isn't using it yet?

According to the guys over at RRG Studios its been done 4 versions ago they are just making maps. (Normandy) how many other maps are being worked on and how come they (ED) is still selling old tech? to me it sound like they are trying to squeeze us out of more money.

Done for their commercial simulator accounts, I am sure the requirements are quite different than what we have for DCS World... least I would assume

Seriously this isnt a thread to compare other engines, specially ones that have maps incredibly smaller in area than what we are talking here.

Hm... so the first images and videos of EDGE in a long time (or ever?) are released from a developer of... WWII content.

Think about that one. All you worried about ED getting into WWII. And you can bet your ass the first dedicated server will be WWII. Maybe even multi-crew...

WWII is gonna help us all get what we want, and some things might never get done without it, so go on and pledge to DCS WWII: Europe 1944. Even if you never intend to fly s single WWII aircraft.

all this terrain news is amazing... finally the act of just flying around to explore will be awesome..

something always wanted to do in FSX was to understand and make flight plans..

new upcoming terrain in DCS will re-spare my interest in flight plans..

who knows, maybe there will be a VATSIM Network on DCS.. :D

EDGE and the new image generator (IG)

We know that the WE44 (had to come up with some sane acronym :) ) will employ EDGE. How about the new Image Generator (IG)? I understand the IG will be part of the DCS core but are there any info on whether it will make it to the WE44 final version?

EDGE = IG AFAIK.

It's hard for me to believe a newrendering technology is the same as a new terrain engine and theatre creation tools.

There is no such thing as a terrain engine.

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

Come let's eat grandpa!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_engine

A game engine is a system designed for the creation and development of video games. The leading game engines provide a software framework that developers use to create games for video game consoles, mobile devices and personal computers. The core functionality typically provided by a game engine includes a rendering engine (“renderer”) for 2D or 3D graphics, a physics engine or collision detection (and collision response), sound, scripting, animation, artificial intelligence, networking, streaming, memory management, threading, localization support, and a scene graph.

In many cases game engines provide a suite of visual development tools in addition to reusable software components. These tools are generally provided in an integrated development environment to enable simplified, rapid development of games in a data-driven manner. Game engine developers attempt to "pre-invent the wheel" by developing robust software suites which include many elements a game developer may need to build a game.

I'm wondering about this Minsk studio - is this an ED studio, and is it the same studio that is developing EDGE? Somehow I remember that the initial attempts to have this work outsourced (in Minsk?) were not successful and had to be started over by another team. Sorry if my memory serves me wrong here, any ED/DCS historians who could clarify?

The Minsk office took over Nevada and used it as a test bed while Developing EDGE, among other things.
