I decided I needed to add a Russian ISR plane to the collection, so here it is. As a bonus, I am also including civilian and C2 variants. ======== Available now. Download link is in the first post ======== Tupolev Tu-204/214 variants (AI only) The Tupolev Tu-204/214 (Russian: Туполев Ту-204) is a twin-engined medium-range narrow-body jet airliner capable of carrying 210 passengers, designed by Tupolev and produced by Aviastar-SP and Kazan Aircraft Production Association The Tu-214R (NATO: "Mullet") is a special mission version of the Tu-214 commercial transport aircraft, developed under the codename ‘Project 141’, to replace the Il-20 Coot ELINT platform. Designed to loiter in a friendly or uncontested airspace at high altitude and at safe distance from targets or along the border of a country under surveillance, the Tu-214R is configured to carry sensor packages to perform ELINT (Electronic Intelligence) and SIGINT (Signal Intelligence) missions. The MRC-411 multi-intelligence payload also includes side-looking Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and other Signals Intelligence (SIGINT) and Communications Intelligence (COMINT). This mod includes 2 selectable aircraft type in the Mission Editor (with additional variants selectable by using liveries): - Tu-204/214 - Tu-214R Included are various liveries, by plane: Tu-204/214 (CLP) - RUS Redwings Airline (Tu-204-100B) - RUS Rossiya Special Flight Squadron (Tu-214PU) - RUS Tu-214ON RF64519 (Open Skies) - RUS Tu-214ON RF64525 (Open Skies) -RUS Tu-214PU SBUS 64529 Tu-214R (CLP) - RUS Russian Air Force 64511 - RUS Russian Air Force 64514 Notes: The planes will be alphabetically listed with the C's (Cowboy's Livery Pack Tu-204/214). As always, this is my artistic representation based on photos of the actual aircraft / my modeling skills, and not necessarily 100% accurate. =========================== USE AT YOUR OWN RISK Installation: unzip the files and copy the entire contents of the 'Mods' folder in the zip file to your DCS user files folder, example: C:\Users\[YOURNAME]\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\ (You should end up with a "CLP_TU214" folder under Mods/aircraft, example: "C:\Users\[YOURNAME]\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Mods\aircraft\CLP_TU214\") ===== To UNINSTALL: simply delete the "CLP_TU214" folder from the above location (Do NOT delete the entire 'Mods' folder as this will remove any other mods you may have installed) =========================== Changelog: v1.2.0123 (2023-01): Fixed bug preventing proper display of 64514 livery and aircraft configuration v1.1.1215: Added 4 variants and respective liveries, incl: Tu-214ON and Tu-214PU-SBUS types v1.0.1115: Initial Public Release6 points

I saw that in the latest Wags video, the Mode 4 interrogation gives a negative reply. This is not correct unless the target being interrogated has its parrot bent or the A/B code switch is set wrong in either aircraft. Mode 4 encrypts both interrogation and reply, and an incorrect interrogation (such as one from a hostile aircraft) would not return any reply. This is precisely so you can't use IFF to locate enemy aircraft.4 points

No, because max 8 tracks is not a limitation of the logic, but how it was in the AWG9, that is a real limitation. And yes the logic prioritizes enemy over friendly, and then iirc according to threat level, or however DCS provides that. But 8 is the max in any case. And always will be. More than 8 would be cheating.4 points

As of the most recent Open Beta patch, this is no longer necessary. There is a 4th AI weapon assignment now in the AI Interface: "NO WPN", and when set to this George CPG will de-action all weapons. If he is tracking a target, you can use AI Interface command Right-Short, which will toggle between commanding him to designate the target with his LRFD or stop designating. This allows you to direct him to simply lase for your missiles without going through the "trickery" as before. You won't get the correct time-of-flight countdowns since you can't use the laser as a range source in the backseat (except for COOP rockets), but it gives the player more direct control over missile shots.3 points

My opinion on this VAICOM issue as a SINGLE pilot/player on a retired fixed income; Many thanks to Hollywood for adding such immersion over the years, and additional thanks for the decision to hand it on to others to further expand and support. We all owe a debt of gratitude to him for that. He didn't get rich doing this, do the math on 'Revenue x Licenses'; it was a passion. A possible future of VAICOM product development & support without a license fee, balderdash...continue charging for the product! It takes effort, talent, time and some passion to build/maintain this, TIME is MONEY. For those of you that may complain because you've already bought a license...it was well worth it. Divide that license fee by the number of hours you spent flying with such immersion....do the math; damn well worth it! How many beers, cups of Starbucks, packs of cigs, bags of Tostidos was that. Sorry, but you should be embarrassed by even whining about that small, token license fee. Continuing a license based product ensures a future for it, especially with a larger team and a growing community. Be happy Finally, upgrading to the 2.8 version??? I was considering rolling DCS back to 2.7xxxxxx latest version out of frustration. Then MAXsenna gave me simple instructions to d/l and install new Vaicom DLL. It took a whopping 3 minutes to complete and I was back on the tarmac 'requesting engine start' in my A-10C, F/A-18 and F-16. Thanks again MAXsenna! So please, stop the whining, do the upgrade (doesn't even hurt), praise Hollywood's contribution to our community, and go drop a BOOM or FOX an adversary...be happy.3 points

On the EHSI both the HDG and CRS knobs can be depressed. As stated above, depressing the CRS knob is how you adjust the brightness of the EHSI. I don't think depressing the HDG knob does anything. But you can click and depress it in the cockpit too. @jaylw314 EHSI Mode is changed with the "M" button that is located between the CRS and HDG knobs, centered below the EHSI display.3 points

For AMRAAM: Initial target data is sent to the missile in case the datalink fails or the track is dumped immediately after launch. The datalink itself also needs to be initialized so the missile knows what datalink signal to be looking for. If the target is close enough for the missile to go active off the rails, the initial target data that is uploaded is what it will use to begin its search and target acquisition, so it doesn't need to wait for a datalink signal before maneuvering for intercept. For Sparrow: the missile is "tuned" to the launching aircraft. Each aircraft's illumination signal is encoded, and then the missile tuned to that signal, so that the missile can tell its target apart from the targets being illuminated by other aircraft for other Sparrows.3 points

The yellow square Mode 4 reply ED has implemented as a "negative" reply is described as an unknown reply, and publicly available manuals like the Greek and Chilean -34s state that they should not normally happen at all. IE normally the only reason such a reply would be produced is as a result of some fault in the transmission. It should not appear on any track that does not produce a reply like it does in Wags' video. I feel like ED has had some misunderstanding of the fundamental concepts of AIFF functionality in the F-16 at this point. In a previous video Wags talked about a negative IFF reply contributing to track classification, something which documents (for example M3) explicitly state is not a feature of the jet, and now it seems like we're getting symbology for radar targets that fail to reply to IFF (I am assuming ED doesn't think that hostile aircraft will actually send out a "negative" reply). In reality the manuals essentially paint AIFF functionality as largely disconnected from the fire control radar itself. AIFF interrogation can happen with the radar in A-G mode or even with the radar off, replies can come from undetected friendlies (but of course not hostiles, at least in Mode 4) and replies are explicitly not correlated with tracks to provide classification. It is essentially a separate system using the same display, and it's up to the pilot to correlate the information.3 points

I have just seen this onboard video taken from Turkish F-16, and I believe it's the Block 50 or 52. Pay attention on the Gun reticle (also known as Target designator circle), how it overlaps practically every stuff on the HUD, while it is moving all over it, except the EEGS Gun funnel: Viper in DCS does not do that. Maybe an idea for an update in the future? Would be a cool edition to the Viper. EDIT2: removed the topic's tag, since we are still not sure if this is not for DCS's block.2 points

Think we all know about HB's Trello, but posting here incase you don't https://trello.com/b/HsMiJggJ/heatblur-public-roadmap Hoggit user made notice the 2022 tag on the F-4 got a green flair. Might of been there before aswell, but I'm not really sure. I'd actually seen that it was green before noticing the reddit post, just thought it was green before I noticed rather than thinking they'd done that recently. Cobra responded with the attached image, referencing his comment that was the focus of the stormbirds article I made a post about earlier. Not drawing any conclusions, just making the information more readily available.null2 points

Thanks guys @flanker1 unfortunately, these 2 and the UAZ-452 I've released earlier are the only russian vehicles I got ------------------------------ A couple of Somali'ish trawlers for the ship pack The update is almost ready to ship (uhuh), just some cleaning up to do here and there, update the readme and that's it! For the last hour I tried to have multiple spawn point for the mobile sea base but I'm just a donkey when it comes to code and I just can't make it work. So screw it, you'll spawn on the helipad like a civilised pilot.2 points

I may have some good news. Devs were able to replicate the crash using one of the track files sent through the auto-report feature (you know, the grey popup window often showing up when DCS crashes - it's very useful to devs) and they are working on a fix.2 points

This is not the point of this thread, SIM or not SIM, but if the gun reticle was really overlapping (temporary erasing when it goes over) everything on the hud except Gun funnel. So please, stick to the point guys.2 points

Hello! Make sure you use REV2. I've dealt with this problem there and the hangars no longer need this mod. Woah! What a great comparison, thank you! Btw, did you use reshade (recommended in the installation notes) when taking those shots? Compare these two: This is where reshade shines and makes the difference. I highly recommend trying it out - you won't regret it.2 points

If anyone is interested: I've made videos for all seasons for comparison: Default textures this + Hangars textures Max graphical settings, without Blur and DOF. Here's the Link: I've also made some pictures: https://stumpfl.lima-city.de/pictures/vergleich/index.php?dir=DCS+-+Textures I gotta say: playing the game with these textures is awesome! So much more detailed! The only negative thing I can say is, that all seasons look a bit too much alike and summer isn't "colorful" enough. Not green enough and no yellow wheat or corn fields. That's why I use the default summer textures. I do have to say though: the semi-winter textures (either as autumn or spring) look fantastic!! Cheers!2 points

if you switch the HSD to TID, you can follow along the alignment. when the reticle on top turns into a diamond, it is in the fine alignment phase, basically second half ish of the scale on top. In AHS this will go super fast, because it does the coarse alignment, and then it goes super fast for the rest, in a normal CAINS alignment this will take a few minutes. At the end, he will then somewhat in a timely manner switch to INS. He may enter waypoint coords first, but the best is to release the parking brake while the alignment reticle is still wandering along the alignment scale. In AHS, prolly when still in coarse. Which gives you about 2 min to do that from engine start complete, when he starts alignining. But honestly the best is prolly to just hop into the backseat when he starts aligning, enjoy the view a bit, and when the carrier is done turning, hop back up front again.2 points

Hi Skatezilla, Left CTRL+Left Shift+V requires the poster to be aware of what is going on. 9/10 people on the forum wouldn't have a clue this is even occurring. The poster has not specified a background color. They've simply copied text from another post that does not contain any background color formatting and it's adding the new posters settings within the copied text - settings that were not there in the original post. To explain: If you and I copy the exact same text from someone else's post, and post it in here - yours will go through as black on white, and mine will be white on black because of our different settings - even though the original poster didn't specify any format in their posting. Without knowing the code behind the forum, it may be able to be fixed simply by parsing the post and stripping any background color references where the background color is the same as the default background color of the person posting the post. (There's no need for it to copy the background color in this instance - they can't see that it's there, and it affects others negatively that aren't using the same view mode). Again - if it's too much of a big deal, so be it - but it's been annoying me for quite a while now, so I thought I'd just raise it to see if it's possible to address. Cheers DZ2 points

One of the many variables that you have to consider is the height of the target; the Phoenix range is highly affected by launch altitude and the target altitude (low altitude means thicker air so more drag and the Phoenix is very susceptible to drag because is a big missile). The golden rule to be used is determine the effective range multiplying target height for 1,5 ; so if the target is at 10.000 ft the effective range is 15 nm if the target is at 35.000 ft the effective range is 52,5 nm.2 points

DLSS = Deep Learning Super Sampling. Renders a Lower Resolution and uses Tensor/AI Algorithm to Filter, Clean, and Super Sample the image to desired resolution. DLSS Renders Low, and Super Samples Higher, DSR Renders High and Super Samples Lower. If you think DLSS is the answer, Set DCS to Render 1280x720P, Launch a Mission and see if your FPS Problems are fixed, I guarantee they aren't, as I run a DCS 720 Window'd profile for deep testing, and there's no FPS Difference greater than 1-2% between 1440p and 720p, the bottle neck isnt the pixel fill rate, it's the API's Draw Call Processing and DCS's Core.2 points

Damage modeling is absolutely in the scope of DCS. It's a simulator. The plane you fly is supposed to represent the actual plane it's modeled after in reality. That means if you use it incorrectly things break. And believe it or not that's part of the fun, not a detraction from it. Hardcode mode is already in DCS. It's the default mode, not an option that you turn on, and given what DCS is intended to be, this makes sense. I don't mind giving people options to make things easier for them though. I guess if you don't care to be cautious on takeoff you can just toggle immortal on yourself until you retract gears. Or just air start.2 points
-
It's not beyond the scope of the simulation. It's a consideration with the real aircraft, it should be the consideration with the sim. The "vocal minority" you're referring to is, in fact, the DCS core audience. If this didn't happen, people would complain about there being no consequence for overspeeding the gear.2 points

They're going to be part of the module, I mean if you're in a dogfight and you get damaged, yet win - you still gotta land. Also, if you think there aren't failures - just look at the news, there was an F-15 that had to make an emergency landing recently due to a fuel leak, true that was an older model, but there's several others that make the news, hydraulics, engines going out, etc - just google "f-15 emergency" and you'll see. It's not uncommon, and pilots need to know how to deal with the problems, whether in non-combat or ferry or combat caused damage.1 point

Hear, Hear!! DCS has to be the most ambitious, realistic, and remarkable military (flight or otherwise) simulator ever released to the public! It is absolutely brilliant. It is a resource HOG to be sure, and it is the bane of the VR crowd at the moment it appears...but as an old-school-pancake guy, DCS is simply the greatest. When a Dynamic campaign finally arrives, married to some proper HT and Vulkan implementation...my goodness. And then there's Winwing: this is the golden age of military flight sim-ing - And Eagle Dynamics has led the charge. Keep at it, Team!1 point
