  4. China has it's own kettle of issues with all of this, I'm sure. Yep, very true. Also completely irrelevant unless they also make up significant numbers of DCS purchasers. The world also does not revolve around you, ffs. This stuff isn't that complicated and I don't get how you consistently keep buzzing the proverbial tower. I don't need stats, Razbam and ED have the stats, and presumably said stats drive their decisions on what markets to operate in. Nobody has polled me for what I think they should do, we're discussing general principles and likely reasoning for the decision you're bitching about. Again, 30% to ED, 30% to Steam, on top of a 30% discount, doesn't leave much left for the people making the game. So in your own hypothetical, if those sales numbers combined with the increased profit margins = more than the other, then it is of net benefit to the developer. Which is a very simple concept you are consistently missing, and is all I'm saying. You're basically screaming ''Won't somebody PLEASE think of the children'' and I'm saying ''What if there aren't enough children to matter?'' If it's something significant, yes, and more to the point this sort of thing is utilitarian in nature and easily used for more than one thing. Whether it's worth it or not is up to the individual, and whether it's worth it or not to care for the developer is up to them and their projected profit margins. Probably? Depends on currency conversion and relative economics of the people involved. $25 a year isn't noteworthy for me to even consider, might be for somebody else. Individual decision there. Not really something a foreign developer is likely to care about though. They're concerned with like... THEIR monthly bills and economics. Alright, so we've established you are just some guy that harrumphs in the corner by yourself while shaking your fist at clouds. Glad we got that settled @@ Tell me you lack reading comprehension @@ Nothing I've said, not a single bit, has anything to do with how ''the world works'' in or outside USA and everything to do.with trying to get you to understand nobody is pissing on your country just because a decision has a tangentially negative/inconvenient effect on you by explaining possible considerations a FOR PROFIT BUSINESS might take regarding where and how to deploy products and how those decisions can affect their profitability in a way potentially very significant to small developers. If the number of people gained by providing an option does not offset the cost of reduced margins by providing it, it can result in a net loss DESPITE a net gain in number of sales. This is not a difficult concept to grasp, and it is the reasoning behind their decision, whether their decision is accurate or not is debatable, but the idea behind it is pretty simple. I think it's really funny that you complain about me ''making up numbers'', which I literally haven't done anywhere in any of this, while doing so yourself and in your own example proposing numbers that would absolutely be relevant to making financial decisions. You strike me as the kind of guy who has never run a business but absolutely would run one into the ground given half a chance (and blame it on how nobody wants to work!) lol You totally have a future as a Twitter executive

  5. They get to stay in business and keep people employed. You can't just assume that ED is in the financial position to subsidize miles usage for purchases, and neither can RAZBAM. The 30% discount is more than incentive enough to pre-order. Pre-ordering allows them to take the cash from the advance sales to pay some bills and keep the lights on. Believe it or not there was a time before "points" or "miles" where people bought modules anyway.

  6. Hello everyone, we are excited to announce that a new update for the Gripen is just around the corner! To celebrate, we will be creating a trailer to showcase all of the amazing new features. We're currently looking for native Swedish speakers to do some voice-overs for the trailer, so if you're interested, please DM me. We also want to showcase the talent of our community by featuring your art in the mod. To do this, we will be running a screenshot contest. All you need to do is to post your submission in this thread for a chance to have your masterpiece be a part of the mod. Finally, enjoy this month's community update: That's all, for now, stay safe and check six!

  7. The desire for Vietnam is logical, but the modules with very few exceptions just aren't going to accurately fit that conflict. A late-70s to 80s version of a jet isn't going to provide the same experience as one properly configured from '64 to '74/'75 or so, namely RHAW and RWR. The harrowing experiences from the earlier years as the SA-2 arrived on the scene and radar guided/assisted AA/AAA aren't going to play out the same way with a newer RWR system like the APR-36 and APR-37 that the Es received later. To really get the full on Vietnam vibes it's going to take older versions of the modules, otherwise it's just a jungle map with 80s Cold War jets. So far I believe only the F-100D and A-1H that have been announced would be actually accurate to Vietnam. I was under the impression the MiG-21 and even MiG-19 were both post-war setups, as are the upcoming F-4E, A-7E, and eventual A-6E. And the Huey is a whole other ball of wax. On the other hand, Marianas can work for having F-4Es from say Clark AFB or Seymour-Johnson, or even Osan/Korea plus excuses to have Korean and Japanese Es out there for exercises or some other fictional combat scenario. Syria as mentioned has use for Israeli, Turkish, even Greek F-4Es and US F-4Es if you strike the northern parts of Iraq from Turkey. PG covers IRIAF F-4Es. Nevada covers the USAF Weapons School. South Atlantic, completely fictional or just pretend it's Ace Combat I guess and do whatever you want. Caucuses you can mix in whatever I guess. For upcoming maps, the Kola Peninsula works great for Cold War, with an excuse to bring the Air Defense Command F-4Es from Iceland into the picture. And the Sinai adds all the possibilities in for again Israeli and Egyptian Phantoms.

  9. I've been eagerly awaiting the F15E since 2013 and when someone posted a screenshot of it being $24 I thought it was a meme. Picking up the module for $24 is probably my greatest DCS achievement ever (also makes up for my loss with the Hawk lol) ill probably make a custom skin with a $24 price tag on the tail haha

  10. My ''bubble'' probably includes the majority of online commerce and the bulk of the people who actually fund the game @@ Depends on whether I want what's in that store? Would you get in a taxi and ride an hour out of your way to go to ONE MALL?! Probably, if there was a reason to. I'm not insensitive to it persay, I *am* saying that not every business is going to care if you do not make up a significant portion of their income. If the sum total of them being on Steam results in a net loss compared to NOT after accounting for both ED and Steam taking their cut, then no, 99% of people are going to opt for the method that... doesn't screw them irrespective of how many people feel ''offended'' by it. I'm first in line to throw molotovs at corporate hqs, but expecting them to shoot themselves in the foot so ''some people'' feel included is unreasonable, too. Whether I encountered it is irrelevant. It's simple math : If decision = business make more money, decision good. If decision = business make less money, decision bad. That's what has driven this process. They expect it to cost more than it is worth at this time. That's it. Nobody is pissing on your nation and circumstances, it just doesn't necessarily benefit anybody but you to care. And unless those whole countries make up enough sales to make up for the cost of it all, it's a net loss, and nobody cares. I don't care one way or the other.

  12. To be honest, I'd prefer a JA37C if we ever get one. Yeah, it doesn't sling AMRAAMs, but... so what? It'd fit in a lot better with existing and upcoming 70s to early 80s "3rd gen" fighters like F-5E, MiG-21Bis, MiG-23MLA, Mirage F1, F-4E, etc. It may not share as much with Gripen. Although I think it still used still classified datalink with GCI, it may be implemented in a simplified way, or, as in case of many existing modules with similar systems, completely omitted. We'd still get "funky delta canard with lots of power, but don't mind pulling some AoA now!" Allegedly AJ Viggen has a theoretically better peak turn performance, for a very short while. However, Jakt Viggen has a more powerful engine that also doesn't start coughing up compressor stalls at highish AoA left and right. Besides... who wouldn't want that Oerlikon KCA with "automatic gun targeting" feature of Jakt Viggens? That thing uses the monstrous 30x173mm rounds like GAU-8 after all! But I don't know if HB (or any other dev) would undertake such a project now. HB has their work cut out for foreseeable future too: between finishing F-14 and Viggen, releasing and developing F-4E, Eurofighter Typhoon, later Navy F-4s, and A-6. And while I'd really love a JA 37, I'd honestly much prefer HB to give us a Draken first. I really want a Draken in DCS. Just look at the thing, oozes character, and was pulling Cobras before Flanker was a thing! It'd also go well with MiG-21, F-5E, MiG-19, F-8J, etc.

  13. Well, it is about pre-order and we figured out that DCS Steam users get treated different with the Mudhen pre-order by RAZBAM. And then some people came up with the "switch to standalone" stuff. Maybe because of that. Tbh, i don´t know why that broken record has to be repeated again and again because, as you already stated, ppl use the Steam version for various reasons. Some standalone users seem to be like vegetarians, who have to tell flesh eaters all the time how happy they are and how much better everything is since they stopped eating meat. And then wonder when their discussion partner tells them how tasty a juicy steak is. Not at war with you or anyone else, sir. Burn the heretic!

  14. I'm buying the aircraft because I want to fly it. I couldn't care less about additional goodies like miles. I believe you can transfer steam modules to standalone so buying it from the site shouldn't make any difference. People buy for different reasons. 20 or 30% off won't affect the quality of the experience of flying the aircraft which should be the main reason for buying no? Simon.

  19. This is an annoying bug. I have found the best workaround (i.e., works most of the time) is to push both throttles to >90% after pushing the second start button. Ignore the engine fail alarms as it will start. This ruins the cold start experience in this mod.

  20. Is this EDs official stance then? Rhetorical question, to be clear, as I know the answer is no. How long more are we going to blabber on about Steam vs anti-Steam? Also, Valve's rate isn't a flat 30%. It's 30%, 25% and 20% based on the value of total sales. If ED had an issue with the take then they're are absolutely within their rights to remove DCS from Steam. They have already said there is no intention of doing this. Additionally, Valve aren't clawing at the money. They're providing an entire ecosystem to the publishers and developers to market their game, distribute it as well as support modding. It's up to ED to take advantage of this. They don't, because any modding support needs to be agnostic. Come on people, get a grip. Two systems can coexist without you having to shove your opinion down everybody's throat.

  21. As a mission designer I find it very frustrating but as a Server Owner I am dumbfounded. So now everyone needs to have a password and promise not to uncheck this option or it might as well be WarThunder in Arcade mode. I find it inconceivable that ED added the new oppressive IC to prevent cheating in MP that is so restrictive that it prevents players from using Viacom, an app that adds to immersion, yet adds an option that allows players to override the servers realism settings so they can add big colourful labels so they can spot en ac across the map and gain ad advantage.

  26. I'm sure Vietnam is an inevitability at this point. It might mean waiting until DCS is able to handle destructable vegetation, but that can't be more than two weeks away. The other problem is that most of the assets we have from around that time turn out to be just a little bit too new. The Fishbed is post-war, the SA-2s we have I believe are also post war, the Tiger II is post war, the coming A-7E is looking like it will be post-war, the A-6E is likely post-war, and so on. None of this is to say that it's impossible. Far from it. I'm certain it will happen. We might actually just be held back until common consumer hardware is able to deal with the problem of fighting over large swathes of jungle and hopefully by that time, appropriate modules will be available. That's how I see it, anyway.

  28. It's more complex than that, even putting aside single player and just looking at MP, a 2000's Eagle still has a role a fill. We don't have to have, and in my opinion shouldn't have, mirror missions online. At least not always. Red air can have inferior planes supported by superior SAM's. This can make Su-27/J-11/MiG-29 a lot more problematic for blue side. There is also the JF-17 as a reasonable adversary. Also remember that during Cope India 2004 even MiG-21 Bisons were shown to be effective with proper tactics. Yes the exercise did put restrictions on the USAF, but I think it still shows that the situation you find yourself in matters. Red side can work with greater numbers and SAM's in play. But I'm not trying to downplay one version of the Eagle for another. Unless a developer comes along and asks for a poll or something, it's going to be their choice what version is modeled. All the air to air F-15's would bring something great to DCS.

Some stations indicators, especially 1A’s indicator has like a super opaque viewing window that makes it look like a weapon is loaded even when it wasn’t. Here's a screenshot with stations 1A, 8A and 3-6 empty with 1B and 8B loaded.

  32. Dunno how it became a Steam vs. DCS thing. I found and became a DCS fan (2011) because of Steam. I think Steam is important to DCS for marketing reach. However, after a few years I switched to full standalone DCS to better support ED/TFC. I am still a Steam customer, it does have a lot of advantages. Not sure why a line has to be drawn in the sand over the Steam vs. DCS F-15E drop. Sure, some things don't show up in one vs. the other, discounts etc. But Steam is a great platform, and works for those that wish to stay with it for DCS. Pure DCS clients have advantages also, but those are very specific to a certain type of mindset and player, of which I am one. Mainly, maximize profit for a my favorite developer, and run the client in as pure a state as possible, especially Beta. But, not a day goes by that I am not launching a game from my Steam portal. Many of which I would never have bothered with if it were not for Steam.

  33. 1. Download rate. 2. Customer protection. 3. Payment methods. 4. DRM via Steam servers. 5. Comfort. Switching language or between OB / stable is just a mouse click. No need for a reinstall or fiddle around with any files like back in the 90s. Same for moving the DCS install to another drive. Game starts as if nothing was changed, also no need to fiddle around with any files. 6. Refund is just a mouse click without having to deal with the dev studio. 7. A working friends list. 8. Games guaranteed to work even after the developer is bancrupt because of 4. 9. Most people have Steam anyways . No need for another annoying launcher or transmitting payment informations to another platform. Some ppl are sensible with their payment infos. 10. Modules are cheaper in general. Just a few €uros, but for some ppl this may make a difference as not everyone is living in the rich west like we do. 11. DCS embedded in the same ecosystem like the rest of the games. 12. I can buy modules on Steam and transmit them to standalone anytime. Vice versa is impossible. I don´t think it is that hard to accept, that some ppl are just not willing to switch from steam to standalone because of one (or several) of these advantages. That broken "switch to standalone" record sometimes sounds like a sect trying to convert people, but not like a reasonable arguement. At least not to me.

  40. Just small Detail, the BMW 801D2 Fighter Engine was not running behind that 1.58 and 1.65 AtA Boost. The A9 with BMW 801S engine running in both low and high supercharger Gears 1.65 ATA and in the final version in 1945 with 1,82 ATA. And BMW 801S version was build from the BMW801 E Version with different supercharger Gears for better high alititude performance some strengthen internal parts. And the final version was 1,82 ATA with 2200 PS, when compare the numbers it is linear makes sense. 1,42 - 1.65 roughly 200 PS again 0,2 AtA more boost to 1,82 ATA 2200PS. Only the BMW801F engine was developing 2400 PS, but this was never produced in mass production. In the End you cold not tell what is A9 or A8 Version because they build the Plane with engine what was availble the improvments like blown canopy was also mounted on the A8. Was a note i posted allready sometimes ago in the German War diary from the OKB about Engine devlopment from BMW. Letter is the internal engine coding from BMW, pretty sure it is BMW801 S Engine. The AI (range setting) goes up to 50 nmi, inside AI range you can make an STT lock provided the return is large enough. The manual even reports the ability to spotlight (manually guide the antenna) targets even further, the range scale goes all the way up to 200 nmi.
