  4. Guys, i can tell you this will be worth of waiting. It will totally facelifts the old D9 model. Details are awesome no matter how close you will be looking at it.

  5. It was delayed because it wasn't ready, the Specifics on what wasn't ready doesn't matter. It wasn't ready, it was delayed. If you want specifics as to what delays software, then you need to prepare to be disappointed because most major developers don't share specifics on pre-release software code issues, and the one's that do usually regret it (cough 343, cough cough).... It's the nature of the beast, The Communication is there, but specifics are usually only communicated internally due to the nature of the beast.... When too much laundry is air out, the community goes nuts (again.. cough...343... cough).

  6. I’m uncomfortable with this thread as I feel like I’ve been given a gift of two free aircrafts, and then look into the eye of the gifter and told him "I dont like those, gift me another one or two more and make them full fidelity this time" … entitled much?

  8. Dear all, A little update on DCS: AH-64D development. We understand that some of you are concerned about the lack of new features. No resources have been taken off the AH-64D, and work continues ahead steadily. Much of this work has focused on bug fixes and tunning. Before we add too many new features, it is very important that we first have a solid foundation to build upon. Additionally, a big push on bug fixes and tuning has been required to avoid player confusion and frustration. Some of the larger bug fixes and tuning that have been underway include: Tuning how George calculates target range. Corrected TEDAC video errors. Adjusted HUD only views. Tuning damage model like flying sans-tail. Adjusted gun fire shake. Fix multi-crew ASE sync. Removed HDU glare. Fix some engine start issues. Tuning LMC. Further improvements to the PERF page. Better IR texture maps. Lesson, input, and tool tip improvements. Fixes to the CMWS flare system. Tuning of SAS collective channel issues and altitude/attitude holds. Fix SAS tones and hold behaviors. Tuning yaw offset. Fix PNVS stutter. More accurate weight calculations. Trim tuning. Multi-crew hold modes sync. Fix hold modes disengagement logic. SAS fixes. Better SAS Collective altitude hold. More realistic slip ball behavior. APU not requiring fuel fix. Fixed various warnings and advisories. Fixed standby indicators. Tuning TADS and NVS relationship. This is to name a few. A great deal of work on this front is ongoing. Although bug fixing and tuning has been our priority, we have certainly been working on new features that are not gated by existing bugs. Some of these include: Option to remove the auxiliary fuel tank for more cannon rounds. Adding the AGM-114L radar-guided Hellfire. Adding the Improved Datalink Modem (IDM) and LB Net. Adding the Fire Control Radar (FCR). Adding the Laser Spot Tracker (LST). Adding animated engine nacelle cooling doors. Wipers removing rain drops. Many of these items are rather complex and take time. Please be patient. Kind regards, Wags

  9. I am tempted to agree with you on this aspect. You assume too much. I don't think I am entitled to a free H-Fi module; never have. I have always believed people should be paid for their hard work, if they wish to be. However, I proffered an opinion based on my experience where the 2-week demo angle has been an issue - not for me, but for fellow squad members. Many were intrigued by the graphics and gameplay of DCS yet intimidated by the apparent complexity of some of the hi-fi modules. The A-4 has proven to be an excellent balance of hi-fi systems modelling yet accessible enough to not be a turn off, and allowing more flexibilty of use and time accessibilty than the demo version of one of the payware modules allow. To top it all the A-4 is fun yet challenging and free - for that latter we are extrememely lucky that such a talented group of developers are willing to allow us to utilise their hard work without expecting reimbursement. What I am suggesting is that, given my experience, maybe DCS is missing a trick - especially given that some of those squad mates who initally would not give DCS a second look are actively considering a payware module, something that 2-3 years ago even I would have said they'd only be seen in DCS when Hell was getting the gritters out... I am certainly not demanding a freeware hi-fi module; but considering the demographic that DCS appeals to, a good majority of which is customers over 30, to truly get to grips with a hi-fi DCS module takes more than a handful of 2 hour sessions that some peoples real life allows.

  10. Simply look at the time it takes them to deliver content and you have the answer. It should be apparent that making a full fidelity module and giving it away for free is infeasible. It’s funny when people say this as if they’re the only one with a life and a job etc. as if it entitles you to free stuff The purpose of the free trial is as a demo, not as a free game. Two weeks is plenty enough time for that. And plenty enough time to substitute for and free demo aircraft in the game.
    3 points
  11. I can’t see how two weeks isn’t enough time to decide on something. Or to get an impression of what DCS is like.
    3 points
  12. Horses for courses; for some time to dive into DCS is limited and a two week window barely scratches the surface. Something like the A-4 allows a longer period of acclimation to the DCS meta, plus whether full fidelity is right for you. In addition I would argue you have more time to realise the reward of getting to know a module, something that if you have a lot of other demands on your time, is difficult to accomplish in a 2 week period.

  13. So for the record, I support F-111 module. And the B-1B and B-52 requests. However. other possibilities could include the TU-22 Backfire, Tupolev Bear, Boeing B-47... The B-47 could be interesting owing to it's history of toss bombing, it's recon missions, and just generally learning about the first large jet, and how so many of their crews perished in a flash. all had their place in the cold war, and two Tupolev's are still a major factor even today. Maybe that would complicate matters to get permissions for full modules. That might mean a "free mod medium fidelity" might be the best way to go? You can make it "pretty realistic" but not "3 to 6 workstations with every button and knob" workload to make and "fly" with. Don't need permissions, and if information is received by word of mouth, well so be it.

  16. Personally, I don't see the need for any of this. ED's offers for entry level players are quite generous, I think. Core game is a free download; Two free modules with unlimited use; Two-week free trials of most modules; And 50% off a new user's first order, regardless of the number of modules in the order. If someone can't decide whether or not to commit, they are most likely a "no".
    3 points
  17. The Release Frequency was decreased based on feedback and analysis. ED went to slower Release schedule to allow more testing of builds, I doubt the release frequency does a 180 and goes back to rapid fire releases. Where was any specific feature promised to be released "This Month"? I don't see any newsletter that says Coming in March, Coming in April, Coming in July. Speculation, Considering it's not even up for Preorder yet
    3 points
  18. Hey Rudel! Maybe you could feel less uncomfortable, by another view. If there comes a time when ED would ever change their current policy (2 gifts now, 14 day trials), then what about the following scenario: At first creation of a new account, one aircraft (the user is allowed to choose from a selected pool), is added as well, for - let's say - a period of 2 months (or whatever). Then the license stops. With the "-50% bonus for first buy", the treshold for the user to really buy this aircraft is anyway much lower. Whatever is discussed here, I personally think to have two modules for free is really generous (despite I personally could not anything with them in the past, and still cannot do anything with them today). But as I read the 4 answers of the first poll question, it is not the question if there are free modules, but which modules (really hope I got for what it was ment to be). If there would be a benefit for ED in selling more modules ... I don't know it in general (which is a good idea anyway because I believe then this wonderful sim developes further). Further above I just stated, that for me (as a customer out of millions), it was a question of the quality of a module (and love btw), not price. Nothing more, nothing less. If you don't feel better, ... sorry for my weak try... Better we go flying

  19. I see no basis for that statement. We have to remember the Su-25T was a free plane long before the free trials started. The Su-25T gave everyone a taste of how guided weapons worked in DCS, both laser guided and SEAD missiles. It even has some nighttime weapons capabilities with the Mercury pod. It's a solid ground pounder with tons of firepower from a variety of weapon types. If someone was looking at what A2G fun could be had with DCS, the Su-25T was a solid intro. And it's an absolute beast of a rocket thrower, maybe the best in the game. To cite it as "totally useless" ignores the fact that it was(is) a free bomb truck with decent speed that shoots ginormous laser guided missiles and carries a wide assortment of weapons. The Su-25T can probably carry more destruction on one wing than the F-5 can in total. I enjoy the F-5, but the SU-25T kills it as far as A2G goes. In that light, it made for a very good starter plane to get you into the warheads on foreheads groove of the game.

  20. Their plate will always be full. Any FF module takes years to develop and would have to be a paid product to justify the cost involved. There’s no reason to give it away.

  24. Strongly disagree. ED should not be in the business of developing complex modules and giving them away for free. There’s already a free trial period which is quite generous.

  25. Dear All, to make it clear for everyone. The price policy will remain the same as we announced it in October: It was my personal mistake in March 2023 newsletter.

  26. Outside of DCS, how do you decide if you want to purchase an 50$ entertainment title? I’m having difficulties understanding people citing the necessity for studying 3 days the in- and outside of another module, but would buy other titles at similar prices sight unseen. Not to mention the fact that if you have difficulties getting in 3 days out of two weeks, the best decision would be not to buy; you simply don’t have the time to enjoy it, it would be a bad investment. it would be nice to have more trial time, yes. But claiming that it would be an important necessity to make a good decision is simply outlandish. If you can’t find it in yourself whether you really want to purchase that module inside of 2 weeks, the answer is “no”.
    2 points
  27. Again this is just odd. Like you can’t decide on a video game plane over 3 days yet people buy cars costing 1,000x as much based upon a few minutes test drive

  30. Unless you speak badly of Kentucky bourbon, I am unoffendable. Perfectly understandable. I think the free trials covers all the bases now. A guy can grab the Hornet and the Supercarrier and the Syria amp and go to town for two-weeks. Then grab the F-16 and Syria and go to town for another two weeks, and on and on. You can fly for months for free and get a taste test of everything. And then do it all again. I think that obviates the need for a free FF module. My point was to the value of the SU-25T as a free plane when there were no free trials. We can certainly find fault with ED and DCS in different areas, but when it comes to "free introductions" and giving people a taste of the game, they are #1.

  32. I think you may want to re-visit the definition of "dichotomy", real or false. There was no "either or"; I made a comparison, and I believe it is apt: if you can make a business decision that can affect a good portion of your financial assets in an hour, I think you can make a business decision about something much less momentous in the span of 2 weeks. The comparison isn't perfect, agreed - the decision to buy a car is much more impactful to your life. The purchase of an entertainment title that doesn't wipe out your bank account is relatively inconsequential compared to that. Also, we should keep in mind that most entertainment purchases are impulse, spur-of-the-moment decisions; if you really can't tell whether you want to purchase a module after two entire weeks, the odds are >99% that you won't, at least not for now. People don't get two weeks from ED so they can make a "good decision" or to account for some inherent complexity -- we get some time to become excited and trigger our purchase impulse outright; and we don't get more time simply because the likelihood of a sale doesn't increase meaningfully after two weeks ("diminishing returns"). Personally, I contend that two hours are enough (this is an entertainment spur-of-the-moment sale after all), so IMHO two weeks are very, very generous.

  34. Before night vision goggles, most of these would be backlit in red as that color impacts your natural night vision the least. Our D model still has the red lights. Interestingly in the Tomcat's life, when the crews started getting more air to ground missions, and then got NVG's, the cockpit lighting had to get changed from red to green to be NVG compatible.

  37. As far as this whole simulator debate goes, I just wanted to point out that only 18 or 19 single-seat KA-50 Black Sharks were ever manufactured instead favouring the two-crew KA-52 Alligator at over 196 examples produced. That didn’t stop ED from making it, or people from enjoying it.

  38. I figure the cool factor of the F-117A would help as well as the fact that DCS is being advertised as free-to-play implying people seek full-fidelity combat capable stuff in it (for free). I think it would make that shtick stick better, after all they probably don't want to make people feel like they false advertise. FC3 is a decent simulation compared to others in ways, but not in the way DCS is primarily known for, which is my point. And yeah, this thread is taking off like a rocket. I did not expect over 400 views and 2 pages in less than 24hrs. It's nuts. ALSO: Everyone, I edited the OP and poll, so be sure to check them out. One question was reset and another removed.

  39. @pete_auau You are so right!!! I was hesitating to go through the hassle of setting up a dedicated server... I had never done this in DCS... and those Mr Chimiste's videos encouraged me to do that exactly... I started by making a dedicated server on the same machine and played Liberation missions from it and already I say quite a difference in performance... But the real test I finally did yesterday: I did setup a dedicated server for DCS (open Beta) on my laptop (i7 8750U - 16 G RAM). I made a crazy mission for benchmarking : a Liberation mission with SYRIA FULL, started both factions with MAX BUDGET, did not tick any of the options that should help performance (I did keep the infantry, the carcasses, the smoke, the artillery, etc.), NO CULLING, and it happened to be an OVERCAST CLOUD COVER... the mission editor counted 1240 UNITS !!!!!! This would indeed be unplayable in VR (I have a decent system but still, before, I couldn't run a normal SYRIA FULL mission without lots of stutters...). Well now it did run and I got 35 to 45 FPS in VR, I couldn't believe the difference!!! Brilliant! Liberation is really a lot of fun! I encourage now all who like to play Liberation to setup a dedicated server (at the very least on the same machine, it already helps some) (my gaming/client machine is a i9 9900K with 32G RAM and an RTX3090, with a REVERB G2 : a pretty good system but not the top)

  41. Well, actually, yes it is too much to ask . It happens all the time, people ask (I want to think genuinely and humbly ask… ) why this or that happened. Now think about it a second time. What do you care they're looking for an impossible to squeeze out of place coma or the latest Vulkan iteration changed whatever they have to change all over the already done work, or whatever it is? Any of that tells you nothing about when it's going to be released or the result you're going to see in game when it's released, which, in the end, is what you really are asking for mate. We all, not you alone, are awaiting eagerly for the next development enhancements and all. Don't worry, the day it's released you'll notice like everyone else. Just be patient mate, we all have to be, believe me, you aren't alone in that .

  42. Had a great time flying with you gents! Hands down the best mission so far flying the Apache with you guys. I am digging the effect with the NOD's on and the fire fight that broke out over the compound. Really hoping ED starts focusing more on some realistic looking ground AI units. Some that actually look like Seals and SF ect... M05 with the boys. We had a storm roll through town just before the flight and I had a few drinks to ride it out with the wife. Completely forgot when we cranked up to unmute OBS so no voice chatter from me. Mistermann caught though on his video. Great job on this mission! Absolutely had a blast with it.

  43. I never even gave the su-25 or tf-51 a shot.. I hopped in the su-25 once, flew for a minute or two and thought , this thing is ugly as hell and it sucks( I’m sure its not a bad aircraft)… then I bought the a-10 and f-18, never looked back I’ve always been into flight sims so it really was a no-brainer for me to jump right in. I have plenty of friends that see my setup and have watched me play and said how cool it is, but they aren’t that “in” to flight sims, so they would never even try it out , no matter how free it was. Point being I honestly don’t feel like the free vs paid modules is what really makes it or breaks it for a lot of people. I mean the whole lot of fc3 aircraft don’t cost that much, to take the next step. How much do people spend on coffee every week, cigarettes, junk at the gas station, bored shopping on amazon, going to the movies or out to one family dinner? For the amount of entertainment they can get out of a dcs module in comparison, I don’t see any reason for ED to consider more free content, Its a stepping stone, thats all.

  44. I'm just going to go ahead and disagree a little bit. The P-51 trainer flies nicely and really gives you a feel for what the sim can do as far as FMs go. I came over from the other WWII sim and found the free DCS P-51 to be... refined. The Su-25T is actually a great intro to the world of DCS guided weapons. It has nice weapons screen, night targeting, it shoots guided missiles the size of telephone poles, can do SEAD, and basically carries a crapton ton of quality KABOOM! I think it's underrated. I guess the free trials have made those planes less "necessary". But prior to the free trials, I thought they were a very good intro.
    2 points
  45. Regardless of any shortcomings DCS or ED may have with this, that, or the other thing, the free trials are top shelf excellent. If you get to try the plane even once for two-weeks, that's pretty sweet all on its own. That you get to do it twice a year, year after year, is amazing. Some planes I've tried at least twice and then bought, and others I have tried at least twice and am pretty sure I won't buy. Free trial system as it is =
