HELLO PILOTS Welcome to Digital Train Simulator We paid attention to the production of railway lines - this is not accidental, because railways are an important part of the infrastructure. During the war, the railroad accounted for most of the cargo turnover of the participating countries. Railway stations are important targets, landmarks, and train stations in London and Paris are real architectural treasures. The JAS-39 Gripen DCS mod has received a major update with many new features and improvements. The cockpit has been completely overhauled with new textures, animations, and lighting. The pilot model has been updated, and a new HMD has been added for all variants. There is now a new Within Visual Range (WVR) variant with HMD and weapon cueing. The cockpit now has additional functionalities, including interior lighting, autopilot, and radar controls. The mod has received many bug fixes and improvements, including new engine and APU sounds, fixed control schemes, and improved gamepad and keyboard support. However, there are still some known bugs, including issues with compatibility with some other mods and limitations with the SFM during ground handling and slow regimes. Overall, this update brings exciting new features and improvements to the JAS-39 Gripen mod.9 points

LET'S TURN AND BURN Hi Everyone! Currently, the Heatblur team is undertaking a large effort to refine and finalise the flight modelling of the F-14 Tomcat. In the previous update, the changes delivered were exclusively for the F-14A; the TF-30 powered version of the aircraft. The overall goal of this tuning pass was to even more closely match published performance data and ensure that the F-14A performs as it did in reality. The Heatblur F-14A is now even more accurate in how it maintains energy states across the whole flight envelope, meaning more accurate performance while manoeuvring. Further refinements include an overhaul of some of the intrinsic behaviour of the aircraft, such as wing rock. Wing rock in the Tomcat is now more pronounced and accurate to reality, and associated buffeting has also been improved to be more in tune with the real aircraft. The flight modelling refinements for the F-14A are now practically complete and the team is focusing on the F-14B, the F110 engine powered variant of the Tomcat. We thus figured we’d write-up a full and detailed breakdown of the latest DCS: F-14 flight modelling changes, our assumptions, methodologies and some of the theory behind the why and how. F-14 Flight Model Tuning - Part I - click to read. We hope you enjoy! full link: https://heatblur.se/fmupdate/ We love to share and learn together as a community and enthusiasts, and considering these changes impact the way you fly and fight the F-14; why not have you be part of this last step of our development journey. We’ve spent a considerable amount of time recently perfecting and tuning the last parts of the flight model for our F-14. As mentioned above, we’ve focused entirely on the F-14A first; the TF-30 powered version of the aircraft. To give you a better overview of the how and why, let’s do a quick deep dive and give you some background (pls follow the link above). F-14 Flight Model Future With this process nearing completion, the F-14A flight model is nearly in a fully finished state. The journey has been long, initially focusing on handling qualities with our very dedicated pilot SME, Victory205. We wanted to get those out of the way first to make sure handling was correct, with extra time spent focusing on handling qualities around the boat to ensure a very authentic carrier trapping experience. In the near future we will update the following FM items: AOA buffet update to be more realistic (new checkbox option) - will be included in DCS Patch April 13th 2023 Finish performance tuning for F-14B - will be included in DCS Patch April 13th 2023 Improve ground handling Misc minor handling qualities and performance updates as needed Of course the biggest of the items above is to finish a similar pass to the above for the F-14B; also fine-tuning the performance to perfectly match the available data and plots. We’ll chime in with another flight modelling update focusing on the F-14B results once we’re ready! If you have questions or just want to leave your feedback or else discuss the new performance and FM changes, feel free to discuss here. As always, we're looking forward to your input! Thanks for reading, and for your support – we hope you enjoy this deep dive, especially as a precursor to similar articles for the DCS: F-4E, DCS: A-6E and Eurofighter aircraft. Sincerely, Team Heatblur EDIT April 13th, 2023: - Adding Performance and FM Changes to F-14B, inlcuding level flight acceleration, turn performance and top speed and access power across the flight envelope. @BIGNEWY I'm trying to take the quality of this product seriously, but you locked the thread and renamed it? Why are you marking things correct if you don't even know what correct is, and instead of reading the thread or testing the complaint, editing my post so you don't have to? There are just two numbers backwards, numbers that would show obvious error in a response analysis. I would also advise that the fact his aircraft spazzed so little for what essentially should have been a singularity suggests there's something else wrong with the state space equations. Are you the person actively working on the F-16 Flight model?6 points

Well, I know that tomorrow is April Fool's Day, so I thought I should get this out NOW so that no one thinks it's a prank! Some of you may have seen the recent video by Grim Reapers showing the F22 vs F23 using the AIM-260 JATM. I contacted Cap and asked if I could obtain that missile for use in the F-22 mod. He checked with CurrentHill and permission was given. Thank you! @currenthill He provided me the model and textures. I based the LUA code on the AIM-120D-2 and after some testing and refinement I'm pretty happy with the results. The Raptor can carry six of them internally. Yes, there is some clipping on the rear of them, but then again, there is with AMRAAM's too. It is what it is. I named the missile the AIM-260A JATM (Joint Advanced Tactical Missile). Every missile I've ever heard of went into service in US military with the "A" designation, I don't see why this would be any different. I modified the texture accordingly. The missile was added to the same A2A_Missiles.lua file and the external weapons patch and single player versions have been updated. Links in the first post. Readme contains: "Added AIM-260A JATM by Currenthill (textures) and w3bby82 (3D Model) used with permission and provided by Cap (Grim Reapers) LUA based on AIM-120D-2."6 points

Gruppenstab of JG51 Noticed some major bug in the diffuse and roughmat on the wings for previous textures and had to fix that. It´ll take some time now to resave all the previous textures... Also some stenciling on the diffse got pushed around once ive inspected the other textures..... oh well.. Anyway. I´ll rest with making more versions and JG´s for now, finish the fixing and make sure, that JG301, 3, and 51 will be nice and wrapped up for an initial release, before i do more versions.5 points

Yes. Jester v2 means a general overhaul of the Jester AI - in steps and as applicable - across modules long term.5 points

Your having a laugh aren't you?... I'm heading for 70 and I'm positive I'll be flying on that map long before I kick the bucket.4 points

It’s not overdone and it’s absolutely perfect. You may not like, or believe, that F-14 cockpits looked that way, but they absolutely did and it would be a disservice to change it.4 points

in addition to Tobias tracks and screenshots, here are some screenshots and the track of a short test showing the IR signature of T72, T80 and T90. all of the tanks had a waypoint assigned, so the were not stationary from mission start but had to drive a short way to get to their final location.Tank_IR_signature.trk even then, i do think the IR signature to be off by a lot, given that they can barely be distinguished from the surrounding grass and road, no exhaust smoke etc. also note by the TGP position indicator, i was basically above the targets when i took the screenshots, spotting those from far away (20-30nm) is pretty much impossible without massive amounts of luck i think its self explanatory at this point.. then here is a track showing the IR signature of Map objects on PG, especially civilian cars compared to actively driving enemy vehicles: PG_Map_objects_IR_signature.trk T72 TV mode: T72 WHOT: T72 BHOT T90 TV Mode T90 WHOT T90 BHOT T80 TV T80 WHOT T80 BHOT Tank_IR_signature.trk4 points

The stores drag was adjusted a while ago using drag index data from the F-14 NATOPS. We obviously couldn't adjust the actual drag of the missiles or else it would affect the missile performance, but we found a way to adjust individual stores drag while they're attached based on the station where they're mounted. The recessed Sparrows have the least drag while attached to the aircraft.4 points
-
Would be great if ED would fix the trains so we could populate those stations more easily with actual train units instead of manually aligning static train objects that dont move...4 points
-
I'll definitely be doing more experimenting! Thanks heaps. I thought I'd throw my first look up in vid, along with rest of assets, in case it catches some peoples eye who haven't seen mods. ED should put the community work in a newsletter spotlight.4 points

To not spill all the beans yet, we will go into more detail about all of this soon.4 points
-
We will go more into detail regarding the mentioned systems in future updates. Mass Dynamic Systems basically means that parts of the aircraft that move are also driven by mass, not only as a function executing a command. Think of stuff like flaps, or landing gear, etc. We will update on Jester v2 in the future, and more, following the unveil. Thank you for your kind patience.4 points
-
The stores drag has been fixed indeed, it needed to happen before the FM could be tuned. Stores drag was tuned by type and station and it generally correlates to the drag index data in NATOPS.4 points
-
Model things correctly make me happy too, however I would have preferred a less drastic management of the situation, like: Leave current Litening TGP as it is. Add the Lantirn pod Speed up the Sniper pod development. Once the Sniper pod is ready and released, remove the Litening pod.4 points

Its been said that its a matter of when not if. We are waiting for our Terrain SDK to mature enough to do it properly and to the best ability. We are not going to announce it until its happening for obvious reasons. I cant imagine DCS World to never dip its toes in that region though for sure.4 points

yeah imminent is within the week, not even a month, but yeah whatever... at this stage everything is a big unknown F-4, F4U, F-15, 135GR early, .. we are entering Q2 and not one single module was released... oh well. (Speaking generally not exclusively about Heatblur of course)...3 points

Welcome! Coincidentally, I bought my HOTAS for Star Citizen after pre-ordering a starter ship in 2012, thinking then that it would be released "soon"... a little off target there. No more pre-orders for me! I also played enough War Thunder to pretty quickly want to try something more authentic, so I tried Il-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad and then DCS, first the free Su-25 and then the P-51. I knew next to nothing about flying and I was excellent at crashing on landing and pretty clueless in combat, but I was hooked, too. And once I went to VR there was no going back for sure. Fast forward 10 years and a ton of reading, research and practice later (which I've thoroughly enjoyed), and DCS is better than ever with a lot more on the horizon. Good luck with the PC build!3 points

Mi-8 and UH-1 are now 10 years old. Too many things have changed since then. You can spot the differences by looking at Mi24 or apache. I hope ED would consider renewing 3d models and cockpits of these beloved workhorses.3 points

With the increasing number of cold war AI assets, and may campaigns and mission to be made for this era, toss or loft bombing should become a thing for the AI. E.g., I am reading lots of material on SEAD/DEAD in the Middle East and Vietnam in the 1960s and 70s and I can't help but notice toss bombing was widely used. Actually, it has been used up until operation Desert Storm, in 1991. Thank you for your consideration null2 points

Those planes are surrounded by fence and only thing you can touch is the pitot tube (although will be stopped by patrols) and climb into cockpit is sure to be forbidden. I have only some photos to show the fins of J-8II today because I have other arrangement and only limited time for the main target. And @LowRider88 here are the fins. The trailing edge can be seen sweeping forward even from a right front view.2 points

I really wish ED would stop using the word "imminent" in their news letters when they don't really mean imminent. The last time we heard imminent was for the F15 before Christmas and look how long we are actually waiting.2 points

I assume if we are still alive when a Korean war and Vietnam war map comes they will be period specific. I too would have preferred Sinai to be 1980s era at latest. But at least this era still uses some of the aircraft in the game. A 2022 Kola map is a bit useless. Norway now uses F35, Finland will soon also use F35. Sweden uses Gripen. Russia while still using Some Su27 and MiG29s generally now uses later models. So really none of the main players on that map uses aircraft we have in game. Should have modeled it on Mid to late 90s. When Norway still used F16s, Finland F18s, and Russia was still flying around with early MiG29 and Su27s and even MiG21s.2 points

Just finished this campaign for the first time - WOW! This one has to be one of the most enjoyable campaigns I've played so far in DCS. Very well balanced in every conceivable way and very immersive. I also loved that Armed Forces Radio - I always made sure to tune to 117.2 during RTB. Playing through this campaign was quite an experience and I also learned a thing or two about flying helicopters in combat. So thank you Reflected for this great campaign! PS. I would love to see a sequel been played out on a real Vietnam map (provided we will get one from ED eventually...).2 points
