  1. Gotta be real, this feels like a really trashy way to treat your customers, by the ED leadership. First, we dont even get told about this change at first and had to learn it the hard way. Thats unacceptable from the get go and shows a blatant disregard for customers and community. And secondly, this is ED arbitrarily changing how we can access the game. This is some kind of "pray I dont alter the deal further" moment. We have no choice, we werent asked, not told. Just ED changing such a fundamental thing, a principle of access the game was sold on, and we have to suck it up. This is only made worse becasue we already put up with so much. We pay silly amounts of money for modules, we accept a deeply buggy game, and we crowdfund eternal early access modules with often questionable road maps. If anything, ED should give back more to the community, rather than treat us like this and take away features. I planned to purchase more modules, eg the F-4E instantly at release, but Im gonna put those on hold. Not just because Im treated badly, but because this makes clear that I cannot trust ED to not make changes against my interest. If they did a decision like this as if its nothing, what else will they do in the future?

  6. If you played Steam recently and got a 403 error, Please go to your DCS profile page. If your Steam account state shows binded, it doesn't matter if you transferred or not; you have to click unbind, and then you can use Steam again. or Just use standalone client. In recent days, some users keep getting 403 steam authorization error. I thought it's a steam issue. A lot of people don't know what's wrong with their games. until someone mentioned there's changes in the ED profile page , now it displays: It seems only people who have bind their steam accounts before will get the error, and the problem remains until users unbind their steam accounts. But ED didn't make any announcement, and your FAQ and pined post still remain the same. It is mind boggling and disregard for the customers.

  10. before we can consider animations of troops inside helicopters or vehicles, we need to move forward with Vulkan, we have to consider performance impact and the Vulkan API will hopefully help in this regard.

  12. Sadly it is the same for any system where you rent software from a vendor, they can indeed move the goal posts anytime in the future without notice Best of luck getting this reversed

  15. This work is not mine, I copy paste what the dude (Maya on discord) wrote on the discord bug channel so his work attracts attention from ED. "Hi, has anyone thought that the sunrises & sunsets in DCS are a bit too purple? I'm a graphics programmer who's familiar with Eric Bruneton's (which is used in DCS) and Sebastien Hillaire's atmosphere models and I found a "bug" in their implementation which causes the sky to be too purple and developed a tool called ARPC which allows accurately calculating the atmosphere parameters. Basically both Bruneton's and Hillaire's models pick 3 primary wavelengths for red, green and blue to determine Rayleigh scattering and Ozone absorption coefficients, but this method simply doesn't have enough precision to take especially the Ozone absorption spectrum into account. ARPC on the other hand uses CIE 1931 XYZ color matching functions to take a weighted average of the coefficients for all wavelengths when calculating the coefficients for red, green and blue. This approach gets much closer the spectrally rendered path-traced reference, which has more blue-tinted sunrises / sunsets. It also calculates a few other parameters such as the scale height and ozone distribution more accurately, by using ISA instead of the constant temperature atmosphere used in Bruneton's and Hillaire's models. If anyone's from ED is interested, I can provide more technical details regarding how ARPC works. It's already open source (MIT licensed, so can be integrated to any commercial project without any royalties) and available on GitHub: https://github.com/FarukEroglu2048/ARPC Here's a quick comparison with the ARPC coefficients, I changed the coefficients in the shader code for it: Default Coefficients: ARPC Coefficients: Here's another comparison using a ShaderToy implementation of Hillaire's atmosphere model: Hillaire's Original Coefficients: ARPC Coefficients: To validate my approach with ARPC, I used a root finding algorithm which tried to find the scattering and absorption coefficients which minimized the error between the spectrally rendered reference and also converted a reference spectral light source and the transmitted light spectrum after it passes through the atmosphere into sRGB to solve for the coefficients. In both cases, the expected coefficients almost perfectly matched the coefficients calculated by my approach: Under the spectrum calculations section, the first line is Rayleigh scattering coefficients and the next line is Ozone absorption coefficients for red, green and blue, calculated using ARPC. And below them, the array shown by “x” contains the Rayleigh scattering and Ozone absorption coefficients that match the spectrally rendered reference the best, found by the root finding algorithm. You can see that they are in great agreement with the ARPC coefficients. Even without more rigorous tests like that, the results with the ARPC coefficients are visually very close to the spectrally rendered path-traced reference."

  16. For sure. The EQ-6 would be very well received and popular, even if they added it as a separate module. I would absolutely not mind spending an extra $15 (only if you already have the F1 module of course) to get the F1EQ-6, as it’s an extremely advanced model with a lot of its avionics being very different to those in the Spanish F1s. The radar is different, HUD is different, RWR is different, cockpit is very different, various different weapons, targeting pod, etc. With all of the added capabilities of the EQ, especially the EQ-6, I would happily pay more for it. With the 580gal drop tank and more sophisticated weapons, the EQ-6 would be tremendously powerful in a Cold War setting. The more advanced Remora and Sycomor ECM and dispenser pods, Exocet missiles, better radar, better RWR etc., would make it very dangerous! The S530F is already a great missile, but with enhanced SA and HUD, it would be absolutely lethal against other CW jets. The best part? There’s an F1EQ-6 on display in a French museum, so they wouldn’t have to go to Iran to model it! There‘s an F1EQ-6 in the Aquitaine Air Conservatory as well! Here’s a photo of the less munted cockpit belonging to the Aquitaine EQ-6:

  17. I have already covered this. We have no plans to move away from steam. In your case you are best to use stand alone having both steam and eshop modules. thank you

  18. Well, it's probably more of a "leeching" than a cheating issue. It's not only ED that needs to/do take measures. (Netflix anyone...?) You guys didn't loose anything, except for the time delay, and potentially disk space. If you have purchases on both platforms, the obvious choice is to bind your Steam account, and play on Standalone. If you have all on Steam, play on Steam. In any case you need Standalone for the free trials, as it's always been, 2FA or not, which will probably be rolled out on everything in a couple of years anyway. I do agree though, that both these changes could have been communicated in such a better way, with an explanation of why! Because people tend to understand the "why", when they're told why. Like why stores lock their doors at night. I feel truly deeply sorry for our moderators that always seem to be the last ones to know... Sent from my MAR-LX1A using Tapatalk

  23. DLSS uses tensor cores on the GPU, not the CPU. The overhead should be minimal. That said, in MT, it's quite unlikely CPU-limited scenarios will be affected by it. While pushing less pixels overall is good for CPU, with multithreading the load from graphics is being spread out, so if you're CPU limited, it's probably the logic thread. The effect of DLSS will be essentially similar to changing the resolution. So if you want a taste of how DLSS will run, try cutting the resolution and imagine it'll run like this, but look a lot like a full resolution picture.

  24. There should be some official announcement. This is a pretty silly change to make without notifying customers, as it looks like the same old authentication failures that have happened sporadically over the years. Unless somebody thinks to check here, they would never know.

  26. Hi All, Over the past few months we have been working tirelessly to try and improve the performance in the most heavily populated areas utilizing the latest block technology we released a few month ago which basically replaced every city with brand new models and new POI models across all areas of the map. We are excited to share with you some video tests and would love to hear you feedback. As a reference we used YoYo's performance video "https://youtu.be/6zi44Us3xC0?si=kt7Jrk3JUNT_4LZD" as a baseline In general we are seeing over 200 fps whilst still keeping all that great eye candy, which is paramount IMPO when flying low in a helo. 28. I will try to make it clearer for you, some people were breaking the EULA by sharing or selling DCS accounts while continuing to use their steam DCS account. This change stops that from happening. As mentioned we will continue to use steam to sell DCS, and to allow binding of steam DCS to stand alone DCS if desired. Steam is a great platform that reaches millions of people, it has different payment methods choices for users which is helpful, we have no issues with people using the steam version.

  30. And I agree that ED has a legitimate interest to stop that. But each copy of DCS runs on EDs DRM system servers. They should have an easy time to block simultaneous use at the same time. Netflix managed to do that too.

  31. I am sorry but if you have bought modules on the Eshop I dont understand why you would want to use steam. Just make the switch to stand alone and use all of your modules.
    2 points
  32. yes if you decide to use stand alone, just bind your steam account as usual. But then you can only use stand alone, and not steam. So one or the other. If you unbind after you can go back to steam version, but you can not use eshop modules on steam, so remember that for future purchases.

  33. Days, months, years? I don't mean to be a pest, but some of us have a sizeable investment in DCS modules and hardware and just don't want any weird surprises.

  34. @Sacarino111 Thank you very much for the praise. I'm familiar with Arduino USB HID, but I haven't had the time to really deep dive into it. Because I'm lazy, I've been using the controllers from Leo Bodnar so far. They support up to 64 inputs, which is usually sufficient. Dealing with the cables can be quite annoying, but fortunately, my girlfriend enjoys soldering.

  35. How much confidence should we have that our Steam accounts will still work at all in a year? Will there be a notice that all accounts must be changed to stand alone? Will all new modules be available on Steam in the future? I load up my Steam wallet over the summer during the heavy work season so I can buy modules during the winter without hitting the credit card. I don't want to have a couple of hundred bucks siting on Steam for nothing.

  39. This is not true. Only the frame generation feature is locked to RTX 4xxx series. The feature table is the following: I have DLSS experience in VR only with MSFS. It's the best AA solution there right now. We should wait and see ED's implementation in DCS. I hope they nailed it.

  42. As the OP states, it works like in the Hornet. And I suppose that's how the antenna elevation control works in the real thing. As far as I'm concerned, I use the coolie hat switch on my TM Warthog throttle and I'm happy with that. I also tried using the slider on my throttle and that worked fine for me. But if your slider doesn't provide tactile feedback of its center position you would not be able to set it to center and the antenna might creep up or down. So I guess it's logical for Razbam to implement the realistic function (rate of change axis), but they should certainly implement a binding for an absolute position axis as well. I would find it even better if ED provided an axis functionality that supports both for absolute position and rate of change.

  43. Why do people recommend mods when someone makes a wish about something they want in the game officially is beyond me. Back to the subject... Yes I agree, I would love to see more versions of destroyed animations on vehicles if possible.
