  1. 05 January 2024 Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends, All of us at Eagle Dynamics thank you for your incredible support and commitment in 2023 and wish you and your loved ones health, happiness and prosperity in 2024. Happy New Year! 2023 was an important year for DCS. Many issues such as performance were addressed with the launch of multithreading and DLSS/FSR. Efforts will continue into 2024 with further tuning and enhancements, especially in VR. This week we look toward 2024, safe in the knowledge that there are great things to come. Please check out our 2024 and Beyond video and enjoy! This coming year will see the continued development and release of many exciting aircraft and maps from Eagle Dynamics. Highlights include the announcement of the MiG-29A Fulcrum, Afghanistan and Iraq maps, and continued work on the CH-47F, Hellcat/USS Enterprise, and the Marianas World War II map. Please see our 2024 module development roadmap below. The DCS Winter sale was drawing to a close but due to its great success and demand we have extended the sale by one whole week and will now close on the 14th of January 2023 at 15:00 GMT. Don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy up to 50% off most DCS modules! Thank you for your passion and support and best wishes for 2024. Yours sincerely, Eagle Dynamics 2024 & Beyond Video A Look Ahead Whereas the 2023 focus of Eagle Dynamics was primarily on DCS core improvements like multithreading, DLSS/FSR, Voice Chat, and bug fixes, our partners had an exciting year that included new products like the F-15E Strike Eagle, new Mirage F1 versions, the Normandy 2 and Sinai maps, and many fantastic campaigns. 2024 promises to be an eventful year with many projects in development such as the full fidelity MiG-29A Fulcrum, CH-47F Chinook, F6F Hellcat, and the Afghanistan, Iraq, and Marianas World War II maps. Our 3rd party partners are working diligently on the F-4E Phantom II, A-7E Corsair II, MiG-23 Flogger, C-130 Hercules, F4U Corsair, La-7, OH-58D Kiowa, and the Kola map. 2024 & Beyond Roadmap Our Current Plan Let’s take a brief look at the new aircraft under development in 2024, in no particular order. Detailed specifications and features will be listed for each product during each product announcement as we get closer to the release. New Eagle Dynamics Aircraft DCS: CH-47F Much of the 2023 CH-47F work focused on the creation of the external model, cockpit/cargo models as well as systems and FM. The model now accurately reflects a US Army CH-47 from the mid-2000s. Much of the work now involves the finalisation of the flight dynamics and flight control system, along with the many multi-function display pages and sub-pages. As with all DCS aircraft since the Ka-50, the CH-47 will have fully modelled electrical, hydraulic, fuel, and other systems that exist within the simulation as “live” systems to manage voltage, pressure, flow rates, temperatures and all other operational systems. To support advancements in the DCS logistical system, the CH-47F will also be equipped with cargo and sling management capabilities as well as defensive gun positions. DCS: F6F Hellcat Also started in 2023, the Hellcat has made great progress. When creating the external model, internal structural modelling was created to provide a very accurate and realistic structure in order to enhance damage modelling. The flight model development is in full swing, and it is being created to match first-hand knowledge of its handling and performance in cooperation with The Fighter Collection. The Hellcat will not exist in a vacuum though, and Pacific Theater of Operations (PTO) opponent aircraft are already in development, as well PTO specific ground and naval forces. DCS: MiG-29A Fulcrum We are excited to announce our first full fidelity 4th generation Russian fighter: the MiG-29A Fulcrum! The Fulcrum has been a massively successful, single-seat fighter that was developed to counter the F-15, F/A-18, and F-16 during the height of the Cold War. Today, it serves numerous armed forces, and will fill an important role in DCS. Based on publicly available manuals, the DCS Fulcrum will be a 1980s era MiG-29, but it will still be a potent threat to other DCS aircraft with its array of radar- and infrared-guided missiles, its 30mm cannon, and unguided air-to-ground weapons. In the right hands, the MiG-29 can be a tough opponent with its Helmet Mounted Sight paired with high-off boresight R-73 air-to-air missiles. New Eagle Dynamics Maps 2024 will also be a great year for new maps. Our Terrain Development Kit (TDK) continues to grow in capabilities each year, and these new maps will leverage these features to create the best maps yet. DCS: Afghanistan First hinted at a year ago, we are happy to confirm that an Afghanistan map is coming to DCS. A flash point spanning thousands of years, Afghanistan served as the backdrop to two of the largest conflicts in living memory. More focused on Counterinsurgency (COIN) warfare than large force-on-force battles, the Afghanistan map will bring a new mode of warfare to DCS battles and our most popular aircraft like the AH-64D, Mi-24P, A-10C, Su-25, F-16C, F/A-18C, will be great mission choices. DCS: Iraq We are also excited to announce an Iraq map coming to DCS. From Operation Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom to the War on Terror, Iraq has been one of the most significant flash points of the late-20th and early 21st centuries. The Iraq map will initially be centred on Baghdad to best provide War-on-Terror and War on Isis scenarios. Later, the map will be expanded south to provide older scenarios like Operations Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom. DCS: Marianas World War II To support the DCS: F6F Hellcat and other PTO aircraft and units coming to DCS, we have been adapting the current Marianas for the past year and into 2024. The map is based on painstakingly researched documents, photos, and accounts of the Mariana Islands in the summer of 1944, at the time of the Battle of the Marianas between the United States and Imperial Japan. This will be a free map that leverages our latest TDK for improved performance and realism. In parallel with these new product efforts, we will be focusing on continued development of existing modules such as, but not limited to, the F-16C, F/A-18C, AH-64D, and Supercarrier. Winter Sale Extended Extended! By popular demand, we have extended the DCS Winter Sale by an additional week. Don't miss out on this final opportunity to take advantage of these great deals before it’s too late. Act now and enjoy up to 50% savings before they are gone on the 14th of January 2024 15:00 GMT. 5. We will share more detail in a future newsletter reveal. Showing the Dynamic Campaign in a video isnt great, its mostly behind the scenes code stuff, we will share more news in the future however, work continues. Again it is difficult to show vulkan in a video, its a graphics API, we will share news in a future newsletter.

  8. It's not even remotely similar to Anton. But yes, multiple sequences throughout video show it's a Zero allright. The flyby at about 3:26 even shows which version exactly - 5c, albeit sporting inaccurate camo for the period . Looks like it's the one Rudel was working on for years as his private project, but now officially implemented. The only question is - will M3 (with ED?) try to turn it into flyable module in the future or if it's going to stay AI.

  12. @BIGNEWY When talking about future MiG-29A, which one is planned: 9.12 (OG Soviet MiG-29), 9.12A (WARPAC sligtly downgraded MiG-29) or 9.12B (downgraded MiG-29 for other countries). Or did we got luck and will get 9.13?

  13. I'm curious if I can find a way to get in touch with the development team for the 47. I'm an active CH-47F pilot and I'm sure I could offer some assistance with flight/systems modeling. The 47 is very easy to fly, (as long as the AFCS is on!), and it has some incredible systems available to the pilots. I'm curious how they'll factor in the role of the Flight Engineer. An essential part of the crew. Maybe an AI similar to George?

  21. I came, I saw... I came. 17, 23, now even 29 - rejoice my fellow Miggers! And all the warbirds! And the maps! I mean, what's more to wish for in the map department?! (Aside from Vietnam and the world map ofc, but that's a whole different effort.) And the logistics framework can only mean one thing to me - dynamic campaign! As if the 2.9 version number wasn't enough of an indication, we're about to see some exciting times, folks!

  24. Iraq was hinted before but MiG-29 is a big surprise. Fantastic job. I've been in sims since Atari days, starting with sims like Tomahawk and Mig Alley. Then came Amiga with Gunship 2000, F-117 Nighthawk, Tornado and finally PC sims with Voodoo acceleration dozens of newer titles. The video you presented is jaw-dropping today and was something beyond wildest dreams in my early sim days.

  36. Thank you for the reply! Is the C-101 still in Early Access? The store page no longer mentions Early Access. Reports about this battery issue seem to date back to late 2020, if not earlier. We are establishing the C-101 as the primary trainer in our squadron and ask new members to purchase the module (this will be the first student class to train on the C-101). It would not look good if we get into repeated emergency situations in training flights (or if we ignore the battery overtemp problem) when this is a known issue, and has been known for years. We're not talking about a huge number of sales here. But I am disappointed to read that development of an Early Access module is prioritized higher than fixing a long standing issue in what I believe is a feature complete module. If I can help narrow down the battery overtemp issue in the C-101, please reach out and I'll try my best to support the troubleshooting effort.

  39. Hey there fellow Tomcatters, with the new, cosmetic TARPS pod, I'm trying out some things how we can include it into our missions. Until we have a working pod, here's some ideas - and some facts I have collected from various podcasts and the NATOPS. If you spot a mistake, feel free to point it out - I'd also like to see your ideas for the peeping tomcats The first camera, the KS-87B, was either pointed directly downwards or at an forward oblique angle of 16 degrees down. This could be changed in-flight, however this took 16 seconds, so I don't think it was practical to change the mount position during one run on the same target. The ideal altitude for the KS-87B was above 750 feet because of the fixed focal distance. The field of view was 41 degrees (horizontal as well as vertical). This makes it pretty much a normal lens, comparable to a 50mm lens on a 35mm camera. When used in the forward oblique position, the KS-87B could be used to provide "pilot’s view flightpath tracing and ship surveillance photography", according to the NATOPS. The second, panoramic camera KA-99 was the camera the pod was built around. It took pictures spanning from horizon to horizon (180 degrees horizontal field of view and 28 degrees vertical). However, if external tanks were carried, they blocked the view from about 25 degrees on the right side and 17 degrees on the left (since the pod was located on the right station). The KA-99 camera was, among other things, used in situations where it was deemed too risky to directly overfly the target. It was able to automatically focus down to 500 feet AGL. Sometimes the KA-99 was replaced by the KS−153A that utilized lenses with greater focal lengths. Those could be programmed to any desired depression angles, typically 27 left oblique, vertical or 31° right oblique, and was used to capture stand-off imagery. The third camera was an AN/AAD-5 infrared scanner, used for night operations and as a mission trace for daylight recon flights. Couldnt find out much about it, but it seems it had reasonable resolution for the era. Here's an example: Now what to do with those facts? Using those data and trigonometry (in my case, I let GPT 4.0 handle the latter part because I'm not a numbers guy ), we are now able to play around with trigger zones for pseudo-TARPS missions. Let's say, for example, we want to take TARPS photos of a coastline. It's defended, so we want to use the KA-99 and fly parallel to the coastline. We carry tanks, so our camera only works below 17 degrees on the left side. Using these parameters, I can now ask GPT for a table that tells us which minimum altitude we have to fly at in order to get the coastline into the picture. I chose meters because the DCS trigger uses meters, too. Distance to target (left side) in nautical miles Minimum Altitude AGL in meters, rounded 1 1027 2 2055 3 3082 4 4110 Here's what I would do now: Create some square trigger zones, each is 1 nm broad and goes parallel to the coastline. I set a trigger (for example, set a flag value) if the player enters this zone AND flies above the mentioned minimum altitude. This way, the target would be in the line of sight of the KA-99. If you want to be more precise, you might also set conditions which heading the player's aircraft should have, so we can't just head straight to the coast to trigger the conditions. Another example for the KS-87B camera, this time a bit more simplified: We are tasked to photograph ships. In order to get a good enough resolution, we have to fly at 3000 feet AGL. The camera is tilted 16 degrees down, so the distance for taking a picture with the ship in the center would be 9979 feet. Now we can create a circular trigger zone with a radius of 9979 feet. Whenever the unit (our TARPS cat) enters the moving trigger zone at 3000ish feet AGL, we can trigger a flag. Example No. 3: The most simple trigger. We create a moving trigger zone condition with our TARPS-Tomcat in the centre and a unit we want to photograph that has to be inside the moving trigger. The second condition is a flight level of more that 500 feet (152 meters) AGL. If those two criterias are met, we can trigger a flag, assuming the KA-99 would have had the unit in sight. I'm not sure though if we can use square trigger zones as moving or just the circular ones, maybe someone can clarify this? A square zone would be better, of course. If we have a stationary target, we can just create a static square trigger zone, it's even easier. Then, at the end of the mission, we can show some black and white screenshots we (as mission creators) have prepared, using the "show picture to coalition" function. I know it's a complicated way to implement TARPS, but I've done some nice missions with it now. Running through the Beka valley at angels 3 with AAA and MANPADs shooting at you, while you're trying to get pictures, can be lots of fun. Anyway, just wanted to hear your approaches of how to use the pseudo TARPS pod, maybe you have some ideas as well?

  40. DCS: AH-64D | Target Sharing For all FCR datalink communications, it will initially be regarding multiplayer. Once the FCR and datalink are final, we’ll then add this for AI Primary members. So, to start with, let’s get some FCR target data by doing a single scanburst. I’m also going to switch my TSD to Attack phase so that it displays all the targets that I detect, not just the 16 high priority targets and display shot symbols. Now that we have some targets, we can decide how we want to engage them. As seen in my earlier Fire Zones video, see card above, we can use fire zones to separate the battlefield into areas of responsibility for each flight member, so that we don’t waste missiles by shooting at the same target as our teammates. Now, I can then send these FCR targets to my teammates so that when they unmask, they already know where to focus their sensors within their assigned zone. To do this, I’m going to send an FCR Target Report. I have the TSD on my right MPD, I press the Report, or RPT, button at T1, just as when I would send a Present Position or FARM report in my previous videos. I then press TGT, or Target, at button L2, and I am now presented with some options for what kind of Target report I send. If I want to just send the 16 high-priority targets from my FCR page, I can select PRI. If I want to send all my FCR targets, I can select ALL. However, if I want to choose the targets I send in the Target report, I de-select PRI and ALL, and then I use my MPD cursor to select each individual target that I want to transmit. When I’m finished, I select the Primary member or members to send to and then press the Send button. Report sent. I’m going to have one of my colleagues, Chaos 2, send me an FCR Target Report from his FCR. I get the notification on the EUFD along with a ring tone, and so I press the Receive, REC, button on the main TSD page, and then select the FCR Target Report to accept the data. When I receive this target report, it overwrites all my FCR targets and only shows the targets I received. The FCR can only store one “snapshot” of the battlefield at any given time. So, if I were to do another FCR scan myself, I am now replacing the targets he sent me with a fresh FCR scan. It’s important to understand that although the FCR Target Report allows you to send a lot of FCR targets to multiple Primary members simultaneously, it cannot be used for direct targeting of the aircraft’s weapons. The Target report could be used for reconnaissance data, to maintain situational awareness, or to cue other aircraft sensors to FCR target locations. “Chaos 2”, go ahead and send me another FCR Target Report. Another way we can share targets is using the Radio Frequency Handoff, or RFHO, option on the FCR page. It is different from the FCR Target Report in that it sends a single FCR target to a single Primary member. However, the advantage of this type of message is it allows another AH-64D to directly engage that target without having line-of-sight on the target themselves. Now that I have some targets, I can select which target I want to send to my teammate, Chaos 2, using the MPD cursor or the NTS button on the FCR page. I can then press RFHO button along the right side of the FCR page. A menu displays my available Primary members, and when I select one and press SEND, that single target designated as my Next-To-Shoot is then sent to my colleague in the other AH-64D. I’ll now have him send an RFHO to me so we can see how this looks on the receiving end. There’s the notification of “RFHO” on the EUFD along with the ring tone. As with received Target Reports, I’ll press the Receive button on the TSD, select the RFHO message to accept it, and now you can see that all my FCR target data is replaced with the new data. However, this data only consists of a single target. Once I’ve accepted the RFHO, the next step is to select FCR as my sight, even if I’m in an AH-64 without an FCR installed. This allows me to engage this target just as if I used my own FCR to detect it. I action my missiles, which automatically are set to RF type since my sight is now FCR. I make sure I am in launch constraints, and then I fire. Although RFHOs are used to send a single target to a single Primary member, multiple RFHOs can be sent to each Primary member at any given time. I’ll do a new scan, find multiple targets out there, press RFHO, select my Primary member, and press SEND. Each time I press the SEND button, the NTS diamond advances to the next target in my shoot list, just as if I were launching the missiles myself. By repeating this sequence in a rapid manner, I can start sending these targets to each aircraft in my flight as I see fit. Now he’ll send me several RFHOs at once. I press Receive, accept the first RFHO, launch. Press Receive again, accept the next, launch again. And so on. As you can see, this makes several AH-64D’s an even more potent fighting force when just a single FCR aircraft is added to the flight.

  41. I added the TM-62M anti-tank mine to the Russia pack. They're not perfect since DCS doesn't really have the mechanics for mines. You set them as invisible and the approaching vehicles won't see them until they're really up-close. Here's an example.
