  2. There's an old British Army saying, ''if you can't take a joke you shouldn't have joined''... C'mon chaps, lighten up! It's a grey rainy day here in UK and this thread is giving me a smile and a chuckle

  4. Quick status update. I'm working on the US pack update, but some of the assets take some time, especially the ships. I will therefore most likely release an updated Ukraine pack update before the US pack. It will contain fixes for some issues and a couple of new assets like the BRDM-2L1.

  5. I agree. People have done full restores and windows wipes and reinstalls before they find out about this. The answer is annoying indeed!

  7. That's your problem. You compare to older, lower fidelity simulations. What you call nerfing was in fact corretions for better simulation, closer to RL. Constructive criticism is good but changes are not made based on users' opinions. Only docs and reliable available info count.

  8. This. This will be big if ED does not push a hotfix soon. I was lucky to take action before the update.

  9. No any official way for this by Meta. I saw the webpage with old Oculus software (not official) but I cant find it now. It must appear after the weekend, a lot of people have no idea what they have, whether they have v62 or other, there are many people who do not visit any forum. They're about to start crying.

  11. I would not call it the next update - it is the first update!

  12. It's reasonable to ask for a small update once in a while. All developers has their own style of communication. Some show small progress every week, others are silent for months before a big reveal. We're just curious and interested that's all I have not seen anyone here complain about pace, no pressure attached.

  15. He is not. Meta implemented this feature, and provided it in beta for a long time and probably ED has dev access so they know it way before. ED says that they know it, they know exactly what's changed but they planned to implement it next patch. You can compare it to this. Just imagine MS introduces a new feature to Dx11 and all game vendors needs to implement a patch to their engine to be able to use Dx11 in the future. Ms pushes the update without no way of rolling back after announcement and public beta testing. All game studios implement it except ED. So noone is able to play DCS for 6 weeks. For a VR user it is exactly like this.

  16. I know it's technically not ED's fault, but I would really appreciate if you guys release a hotfix for this and not add this to "will be fixed in a future update" list. I commited so much to get DCS running with my Quest 2. I bought the most expensive GPU, RAM and SSD. I spent entire days tuning settings, pixel density, render resolution, sampling, optimizing the cable connection, stick, pedals, throttle. And now nothing works, just like that.

  17. Playing the victim card doesn't help your cause though. Maybe just acknowledge that reflections in DCS aren't perfect and some are more disturbed by that than others. I think it is very unlikely that they will be removed altogether (and I don't even think anybody earnestly asked for that). Why are you so white knuckled about the possibility of improvements in the first place?

  18. Your logic is impeccable and super-duper convincing. We’re foolish to only pick and choose certain aspects of military aviation to simulate. Or more concisely, if we can’t simulate everything, we should not expect to simulate anything. Come to think of it, with that new direction, ED can eliminate their short-sighted requirement for extensive “public data”. “Throw away the EM diagrams, boys, cause we don’t need ‘em anymore!” I simulate they’re U.S. Marines. Over-performing is the minimum.

  19. I'd be happy to translate if it meant more options. I'm sure many other Farsi-proficient or fluent players would feel the same. Some of it really doesn't need much, though, like the C-802 example here, or the R-73. We already have those missiles in-game, we already have documentation of use on Iranian F-4Es, including video evidence; just need to connect the dots at that point. Claims that it's probably just an experiment lack proof of that assertion, whereas the news articles from Iranian government agencies say some of the upgrades are a military-wide upgrade. So I'm not sure why that would be an issue of documentation at all, really, unless video proof and state news agencies are not considered documentation. It's also worth noting that many Iranian press outlets are officially affiliated with the IRGC or other government and military branches, so a press release from them is a direct statement from the respective branch of government/military. Hope that offers some avenues of exploration or clarity. I love that DCS strives for true simulation rather than guesswork. A big part of my IRL job is scientific research, so sources and empirical evidence matter to me a great deal. Unless we need a signed affidavit from a Western intelligence agency for proof, I think we can meet a rigorous standard while still expanding some modules to have interesting real-world adaptations born of necessity, like Iran's interesting collision of Western and Eastern technologies. Many modules have made some compromises for playability or combined different blocks into one module; this wouldn't even be stretching that far imo. Of course, the final say is Heatblur's, and I'd personally rather have any F-4 at this point than delay them with more work, but maybe once they have a moment some months from now, it could be considered.

  21. ED devs, respectfully request you please separate the re-arm and refuel activity last night we dropped JDAMs - it took a while to enter in all the LATs and LONGs of the targets into the GPS-guided weapons since the jet needs to be running, i was sitting there burning fuel so once i was done, i thought it would be a good idea to refuel top-off the fuel tanks long story short, by refueling i unwittingly wiped all that data entry because you don't just refuel, you also re-arm - so all the weapons are now reset to default **GRRRR!!** if you could do either refuel or re-arm OR BOTH (user's choice) that would be ideal thank you gentlemen - you are doing great work, keep it up! : )

  26. Maybe next time HB, do not even give out a release date when announcing a new aircraft. January 25, 2022, HB said the F4 would be released in that year. Here we are, two years later...

  27. The actual reason, is the coating on the glass is designed to reflect only the wavelength of the HUD projector (green) at the exact view angle and maximize transmission. This causes the transmission to be slightly tinted by the opposite color (purple) and this is an angle dependent effect.

  28. This. It should be obvious too that you’re looking at a small computer screen and not real life. If you want to see a “real sized” aircraft perhaps try VR.

  29. @LHP @truebrit I tried to find the thread BN posted it in last year but couldn’t. I’ll see if it will let me put the file here. It just goes in saved games/config folder. I think it was just a test run when they were working out MT bugs. It may be incorporated into the game already, but I still have it. What I noticed with it, is it spread the load more evenly across cores. Previous to adding that lua, there were only a small handful of cores doing most of the work. After that file the load seemed to distribute more evenly across maybe 12 of my 24 cores, instead of 4 of them doing 90% of the work.

  30. hey @Flappie i was told by the 3rd party dev's that it is an ED issue! hope for future resolution!

  31. If you have kept up... you'll know that I reported this issue in the first place. So, yeah, I am affected by it, however I have mitigated it. Now I get that many were completely unaware of this, that's why I drew it to ED's attention as soon as it happened as I was on the Meta PTC build. So I am disappointed as you that ED hasn't released a patch already. After all, Steam patched their end very swiftly but then again, Steam have a much bigger user base than ED has to be concerned about. Like it or not, we are operating in a world (VR) that is constantly evolving. HP dropping out of the market, MS dropping support for WMR, and new headset vendors appearing. The technology is evolving all the time and rapidly. If we want to be in it, this is how it is, unfortunately.

  33. Regarding Performance: I didn't make a proper A/B-testing, because I missed to make a reliable baseline test before the update. However, I just flew around a bit over Gizeh/Cairo in the worst possible conditions (dawn, all the city lights still on, clouds, helicopter close to the ground) - a setting that would bring my 4090 to its knees beforehand with avg fps dropping to around 50-60 at times and 1% lows all over the place. This time, with every gfx settings set to the max (DLAA, no DLSS), I got very consistent avg fps around 100-110 and 1% low between 90-95. Needless to say that that gives very smooth frame times. I would say, that is a very noticeable improvement! (to put it mildly)

  34. Unfortunately v63 is already released- it's now the current version, so basically everyone who doesn't have that very technical work around to prevent the update will find dcs doesn't work........given that I setup my whole pc and station, including choosing the quest2 , to play dcs, I'm really very annoyed. Not good enough to just rule out all oculus users....cash back for all the modules I've bought???!!

  35. Not only confusing, but I can’t say that I’ve seen a meaningful improvement in framerates since the last update. The newsletter suggests scenery rendering improvements in orders of magnitude, yet I’ve seen no real difference. What am I missing? system: Ryzen 7950x, RTX 4090, 64GB DDR 5, 1TB SSD

  37. I sincerely trust you're not commiting the heresy of landing, taxing to the hammerhead, refueling, rearming, and getting back in the air in 5 minutes. You're waiting another 55 min for the sake of simulation, right?
    2 points
  38. Hello, I must confess I'm very supprised by this answer. Meta has pushed its v63 update into production now, and anyone like me who hasn't been paying attention to this sneaky update can no longer fly on DCS. This problem has already been reported during its beta phase, how can the ED team not take this problem very seriously. The people who are going to break down are going to increase your numbers massively, and what's more, the Quest is probably the most widely used VR headset in the majority of VR simmers. So a tell back leaves me very dubious. It's more than a priority when an update renders the game completely inoperable.

  42. Sorry I don't get the "The new scenery compute system" / Terrain Scenery Development Report part - is this now live in DCS , or should i update (but there is no update for me available) or is it going to be available in a couple of weeks?

  43. The reply suggests that I wasn't clear, so let me be more specific about what I was wishing for. Right now I can display all file types, or just one file type, but I cannot filter to any subset in between those two extremes. That's what I'm looking for. Seems like coding this would be a trivial exercise. One approach would be to have a set of check boxes for desired file types instead of a drop down "choose one" list.

  44. While I'm a big fan of the User File section of the website, I wish Eagle Dynamics would make it easier to navigate. The big problem is that the user files are dominated by skins. For example, if you filter to files related to the hornet there are 2276 hits (as of a few minutes ago), but more than half of those are skins. Overall, as of this morning there were 21,076 items, and over half -- 12,126 -- are skins. That's more than 4 times the number of single missions, which is the next largest category. This makes it hard to find other content. When I search I'm not interested in skins typically, but would really like to know what else there is. I realize I can filter by Type, but if I want to see everything except skins that requires 12 separate searches for each of the other types that appear related to the Hornet. Some more flexible filtering would be very welcome.
