This one is... just terrible... I can't sugarcoat this one at all. Currently, the new landing gear mechanics are added to the P-47 and I bumped the report stating this needs to be addressed at the very least with the release of that. I will try and keep on it for sure. Thanks.6 points

MiG-29A Fulcrum Announcement It is with great excitement that we officially announce DCS: MiG-29A Fulcrum. This remarkable, Soviet Union-era fighter will be a full-fidelity module based on a photogrammetry cockpit of the exported variant supplied to the Warsaw Pact countries. The MiG-29A will be by far the most authentic and accurate simulation of this iconic aircraft for the PC. Our MiG-29A, NATO codename Fulcrum, will be the export modification of the “A” version that was supplied to Warsaw Pact countries. The MiG-29A was designed to counter all types of aerial targets with radar- and infrared-guided R-27, R-73, and R-60 air-to-air missiles and its single-barreled 30mm cannon with 150 rounds of ammunition. The MiG-29A also has limited visual ground attack capability with 50 to 500 kg bombs, cluster bombs, and unguided S-5, S-8 and S-24 rockets. The MiG-29A can operate day or night and in all weather conditions. Its radar is capable of look-down / shoot-down in a heavy electronic countermeasure environment. The weapons control system consists of two complexes: the Fire Control Radar (FCR) and the Optical-Electronic Targeting Navigation System (OETNS). The OETNS includes an optical-electronic sighting system (OESS), a navigation system, a weapon control system, a unified display system, and multifunctional control panels. The OEPS includes an optical location station OLS that consists of an Infrared Search and Track System (IRST), a Laser Range Finder (LRF), and a Helmet-Mounted Sight (HMS) designation system. The MiG-29 is equipped with the SPO-15 “Beryoza” Radar Warning Receiver (RWR) defence system that is designed to warn of radar-directed weapon attacks. To protect against infrared-guided weapons, the MiG-29A features flare dispensers. The navigation system consists of on-board navigation equipment, a vertical and heading information complex, and an airborne signal system as part of the Optical-Electronic Targeting Navigation System (OETNS). Key features of the DCS module: MiG-29A Fulcrum At Early Access Release: Fully interactive and highly detailed cockpit that is based on 3D laser scanning and photogrammetry. Highly detailed and accurately reproduced external model. Highly detailed pilot model. In-depth study of aircraft systems and equipment. Detailed model of the navigation system with the gyro platform reference system, air data computer, and navigation equipment. Defensive equipment to include the SPO-15LM “Beryoza” and Flare dispenser system. Fire Control Radar with authentic modes for aerial targets. OETNS with modes for air and ground targets. Basic IFF At Final Release: Addition more advanced Identify Friend or Foe interrogation system. Addition of Ground Control Intercept (GCI) command system. Source: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/news/newsletters/8a53b9baafb8473116ad05970cd8a761/ Info on the PFM used from the FC3 version: Full-fidelity MiG-29 will use the same flight model. Actually, that’s not 100% accurate. The autopilot will receive new functionality and modes, and certain issues with closed-loop system stability will be corrected, along with new undercarriage characteristics. But the core FM is probably one of the most accurate we have. IFF Info: On release of the MiG-29A, it will include a basic IFF system, later on after some RnD we will create a more advanced IFF system. This was the plan from the start, it was just lost in drawing up the newsletter, we apologize for any concerns it might have caused. Thanks!5 points

After doing some tests where I fly in a straight line towards an SA-5, I have come to a few conclusions about ECM performance in regards to the DCS AN/ALQ-184. I have attached 5 different track files from the 5 tests. I did every test twice, and the results were identical indicating that ECM in DCS is very likely to be deterministic, so I've only attached one set of tracks. During the tests I was flying at approximately FL250 at a speed of about M0.8. Test 1 - No ECM, Result: Stable lock at 75 nautical miles. Test 2 - ECM in Mode 1, Result: Stable lock at 72 nautical miles. Test 3 - ECM in Mode 2, Result: Stable lock at 72 nautical miles. Test 4 - ECM in Mode 3, Result: Stable lock at 31 nautical miles. Test 5 - ECM in Mode 3, but I only turn it on after being locked by the SA-5 and turn it off again after a lock has been broken, Result: Stable lock at 72 nautical miles. As you can see, there are a few take aways from these tests. Firstly, as most of you probably know, the difference between Mode 1 and Mode 2 is that Mode 2 will silence your radar in order to increase ECM performance, but according to these tests, it makes no difference whatsoever performance wise. Therefore there is no reason to ever use Mode 2, as it is objectively worse than Mode 1. On a similar note, in Test 5 where the Mode 3 barrage jam is manually activated in order to emulate Mode 2, you can see that it has the exact same performance as both Mode 1 and Mode 2. Lastly, there is no real reason to use Mode 1 or Mode 2 at all, as they only shorten the max range for an SA-5 to acquire a stable l ock by ~4% in exchange of decreasing the performance of, or even inhibiting, your radar. The only really effective jamming tactic is Mode 3 barrage jamming before being locked up by the enemy emitter. As soon as you've been locked, you may as well turn off your ECM to prevent home-on-jam shots as your ECM will not be able to break the lock again until you've reached a distance of within ~4% of max lock range, at which point you're pretty much out of harms way anyways. I obviously don't have any real life data on AN/ALQ-184 effectiveness against an SA-5, and since ED does not specify which variant of the Spoon Rest track radar they've simulated for the DCS SA-5 it's hard to even make an uneducated guess, but based on this test my personal opinion is that the effectiveness of barrage jamming seems to at least be within the confines of reason, whilst Mode 1 and Mode 2 break lock techniques are completely ineffective. The effectiveness of Mode 1 and Mode 2 should be increased with Mode 2 being closer in performance to Mode 3, whilst Mode 1 should have a slight decrease in performance compared to Mode 2 as a result of not silencing the radar. My guess is also that Mode 1 would have a much bigger decrease in performance against emitters with a similar frequency to the F-16CM-50s AN/APG-68V(5) radar (around 10-26 GHz according to public sources), but remain near equally effective against emitters using other radar bands as Mode 2. I'd like to not get in the weeds about beta testers, multiplayer servers, and general losing hope in ED. I was simply asking about the possibility of any WWII updates this spring update to address some of the current issues. Since skewgear mentioned the P47 landing gear issue being low priority and being able to raise the issue with ED, it apparently can be fixed by one digit on one line of code in the Lua file that RUNEofORM mentioned in multiple P47 landing gear threads. I'm certainly far from being a game developer in my day job but it seems like the 'small team' that @NineLine has mentioned could have fixed long ago on the way to their lunch break. If there is a active WWII team, what would 9 missles or twenty jets have to do with an unrelated dedicated team that is tasked with WWII? It would be nice not to have to perform a work around the average player isn't going to know about and also not have to mod files to break integrity check to play on Project Overlord server. It's a bit of a twist to say one module with one low priority problem vs dcs jets, for reference see any and all of the bug sections in the WWII modules. Heck the p47 alone has multiple long standing issues that need to be worked out. I bias towards mentioning it since I fly it the most. Universal things like working pitot heat would be nice to have so, high altitudes don't render airspeed indicators frozen on allied and axis warbirds, etc. I'd just like to know if any changes are going to had for the WWII community in the next patch since we have unified versions or wait another cycle.4 points

This is what happens when people live in the future and not the present. Speculation, anxiety, judgement....... It only leads to misery and conflict. Today is here today. Tomorrow doesn't exist. Reality is now. Try being here for a while. Tomorrow is only an idea in your head. It does not exist. LOL.......One day people will learn this and the world will be a better place.4 points

Perhaps do some research before stating nonsense... https://www.f-16.net/f-16-news-article4444.html (amongst others) oh, and before that, they operated from Kabul... Anyways, I can't wait to fly over Afghanistan! Although I wish ED would first finish and release their DC, as imho, currently we are too dependant on user created content (missions/campaigns)4 points

This is not entirely correct, but rather a slight misunderstanding of the manuals. What happens in real life is that when a pilot hops his aircraft he will load different identification requirements from his DTC which specifies what makes a track be classified as friendly or hostile using his onboard sensors. One important thing to note, is that the F-16CM-50 is unable to correlate IFF information to tracks, so any IFF response requirements in the identification requirements will only be taken from interrogations performed by other aircraft on the same target, transmitted via LINK 16. So a hostile ID requirement could be that the target has to be of type MIG-29 and have a negative Mode 4 IFF response. Then you can determine the aircraft type with NCTR using your own radar, and if some other aircraft on your LINK 16 network has interrogated that same target, correlated it to the track, and sent that Mode 4 response back onto the network, then that target will show up as hostile on your FCR. Now, if there is a disagreement between a track identity on the LINK 16 network and the identity which has been determined for that same correlated track by your own aircraft, then the track will mipple (flash) between the two different identities to show the pilot that there is an ambiguity there. Since ID requirements aren't necessarily the same on the LINK 16 network and in your own aircraft, you can have all kinds of ID disagreements even with the exact same information about the track in question. Also, what the manual means when it says that the FCR has no authority to change ROE, they literally mean that what is displayed on your FCR doesn't in any way override the rules-of-engagement which have been set by the commanders and generals leading the war. Just because something has been ID'd as hostile in your aircraft, does not mean that it actually is hostile or that you're cleared to fire at it. In the same way, just because something shows up as an unknown, does not mean it's not hostile or that you're not allowed to fire at it. You can have a situation where you have identified the aircraft type via NCTR, you have performed an Mode 4 interrogation which came back negative but isn't correlated to the track so it still shows as unknown, yet you have still fulfilled theatre ROE requirements and are allowed to fire at the target. So yeah, the main issue in the DCS F-16C regarding this specific aspect of the symbology is that correlated tracks don't mipple back and forth between the different track identities if there is a disagreement in identity between your own onboard sensors and what is supplied via LINK 16.4 points

As a result of the F-16C being one of the few aircraft with a sidestick, its pilots normally carry two kneeboards; one on each leg. Is there any chance of us getting this in the DCS F-16C with the new pilot model? It'd be extremely helpful rather than needing to have everything from checklists, to charts, to mission data cards in the same kneeboard.3 points

Continued collaboration, testing, and refinement will ensure the map’s successful completion and release to our DCS community. Development Progress We have made substantial progress in recreating the diverse landscape of Afghanistan. This includes the rugged mountain ranges of the Hindu Kush, the vast deserts of the Dasht-e Kavir and Dasht-e Lut, and the fertile valleys and river basins. Efforts have been dedicated to accurately portraying the unique cultural and urban features of Afghanistan. This involves recreating cities like Kandahar and Herat, with special attention to landmarks, infrastructure, and architectural styles like the blue mosque of Herat. Aerial imagery has been utilised to enhance the realism and accuracy of the map. High-resolution satellite imagery is being integrated to provide authentic terrain textures and details. The diverse terrain and complex topography of Afghanistan has presented technical challenges due to the large mountainous ranges. Optimization efforts are ongoing to maintain performance without compromising on visual fidelity, particularly in densely populated urban areas and detailed terrain features. The map is designed to look equally as good from low to high altitude. Future Plans In the above screenshot, you can see the area of DCS: Afghanistan that will be available in Early Access. The airfields that will be available at launch include Kandahar, Herat, Bost, Camp Bastion, Chaghcharan, Dwyer, Farah, Maymana Zahiraddin Faryabi, Qala i Naw, Shindand, Tirinkot, and Zaranj. You remember that map actualy has very "sensitive"?. No, ED has talked many times they dont go to build a map with the actual problematic situations here, only to someones like simulate the "actual war"... Afganistan / Persian Gulf / Sinai and Syria was historical battlegrounds and claimed by the comunity... Meanwhile the "multiplayer has empty".... check the servers, surely you get a surprise.3 points

What do you mean? The Hornet still has the simplified magic IFF that all ED aircraft use.3 points
-
Yes, ED believes it is correct as is and not a bug. Me and some other folks are very open to discussing the issue with publicly available information with ED, if they decide to revisit the issue. For instance, even from the official manual, the FCR has no authority to change ROE, but when seeing a datalink target with the FCR, the ROE changes from hostile to suspect still. A pretty obvious contradiction even at first glance.3 points

Chap2012, I have a 3d model of the TCG Anadolu along with a Turkish escort ship. Hmm, you know I forgot Turkey is near Syria. Noted. HighMaintenanceB, I’ve been on the lookout for the Type 075 but I can’t find a decent model of it. So about welldecks. The new San Antonio will have a welldeck installed but not sure how much you will be able to use it. If the ships were able to ballasts in water. That would make it more realistic. Fury, NZ1781. Yes, USS America is being revamped. Beldin, has been working hard on creating deck landing spots for her. All the weapons need to be upgraded as well to make her more realistic. We also need to make sure she doesn't have any FPS issues. Tengah, I haven’t seen a 3d model of HMS fearless out there. Most of the 3D Models I have are all modern. Yep, I have a lot of models but it takes a lot of time to create them. Weapon Coding takes up 90% of that time for me especially if the ship has a lot of weapons. I say that because when the codes don’t work properly you’re in and out of DCS testing and more testing until the mod works properly. That takes up most of my time. Hey Beldin, there is a way to make the welldeck gate lower and raise but that’s all it can do. The Chinese Type 071 Amphibious Transport Dock has the coding for it. It’s just a camera script used to lower and raise the gate. Bbtbmb, share as you like. No worries. Thanks. So, reading all the posts there is a need for another Large Amphibious Assault Ship (Bird Farm) as we called them in the US Navy. Sounds like they are favored over most of the other Warships. I would like to get the USS America back up to full speed before creating another Large-deck Amphibious Ship in DCS. The last few days I have been working to get the Iranian IRIS Alvand Class Frigate in DCS. As you can see below she’s in DCS. I’m working on coding all the weapons which as mention is a Pain sometimes. I can tell you all from experience. DCS game engine has its thoughts about how we code the weapons for AI Ships. The game engine will let you know right away if you coded the weapons correctly or not. So I just code one weapon at a time and go from there. I’m also working on the Amazonas Coastal Patrol as well. Thank you all for your interest. I can hear you loud and clear. As you all know I’m a one-man shipyard so I can only do so much at one time. Thanks.3 points

Well the joy of DCS is much of the content isn't 100% based on real life. We have Cold War server with many more bullets fired than the Cold War I remember. Modern Engagements that I don't remember happening, DCS is a sandbox, we are giving you the stuff to play in different parts of the world. And maybe the real-world activities between 2008-2010 are not your thing, I bet there are just as many that it is their thing, or can expand on it. I expect some cool campaigns and missions to be done as have been done with all our terrains. I do appreciate the feedback, but if it isn't your map and not something you are going to get no need to post here, not sure I understand the reasoning. If you have a wish for this map, post over in our wishlist thread, but don't fill this up with "I don't know what to do with this map" posts, please.3 points

Since the terrain will likely be included anyway because of the extension of Afghanistan covered by a rectangular map module, will we see places of importance just behind or even a bit further the border? For example: - Termez, Uzbekistan, literally at the border, has an airfield, could be an important base for the DCS C-130J. - Abbottabad, Pakistan, could be the location of an intense counterinsurgency operation, commencing from Bagram and Jalalabad, Afghanistan. - Peshawar, Pakistan, east end of the famous Khyber pass coming from Afghanistan Of course there are so many more possibilities (Kashmir, a tiny bit of China just behind the Afghan Wakhan mountains to include a Chinese airstrip, a connection to the Persian Gulf map, cities of Islamabad and Dushanbe...) but I understand that there has to be some limit (well I pretend to understand, in fact I am unable to) Thanks for considering2 points
-
Access from the Indian Ocean supported by air2air-refueling would mean so much more possibilities. The Baluchistan region between south Afghanistan and the Ocean wouldn't even require any detailed scenery, terrain only would be just fine. Please don't miss this chance to include the opportunity for long range naval air ops.2 points

Hi, pls think about it. Afghanistan changes quite a lot during the different seasons. In winter, temperatures can even be below zero (east, north part) and there is even more snow in parts of the mountains, then more greenery appears in the valleys. Part of the map does not change. So in the case of 1/3 of the map the textures should change according to the seasons.2 points

Technically with the F-4E's pulse radar and CW guidance for the earlier AIM-7s, you are not "notching" anything; the radar and missile simply do not care. What you have to do is defeat the missile kinematically, or break the radar lock via chaff and ECM. But the point that the Fox-1 got you into the fight with an advantage is dead on - your target, if it survived, would be lower on energy and ripe for a follow on missile or high aspect gun shot. And yes, by the time the AIM-7 hit, you were close enough to watch the impact and results. Vulture2 points

Green? I have not seen green in the DCS A-4. The A-6E radar of that era was yellows and oranges, as was its big sister, the EA-6B. The A-4 radar was not meant for the kind of fine-grain work done by an A-6 BN. That radar was capable of breaking out a surprising amount of detail in the right hands. Now days the computer does all the processing. Back in that period, the BN did the work. To be honest I have only used the DCS A-4E radar for the rudimentary ground work. It just was not intended for heavier missions like night precision bombing. Single seat + head down fiddling with a radar = Dead plane and crew. That was outside the scope of the plane itself. Wish I had more to offer.2 points

That's the thing - these are special modifications made to the aircarft. Just like some test F-14 did fire AMRAAM but you cannot expect HB to model that into the module. Sounds like mods forum is your home.2 points

Hey guys, I think this is a feature that'd be very appreciated, and it's been quite a bit since August. Do you guys have news on the subject? I'm afraid ED has given us the "soon" again, as it has been 14 "2 weeks". Thank you for your work!2 points

I think we’re all pretty desperate for updates to the WWII modules. Would be nice for ED to spare a modicum of dev resources every once in a while to fix some of the longstanding bugs and otherwise clean up some of the modules. After SoW closed there was a tiny reaction and response that resulted in some modest fixes being rolled out, but that quickly came to a stop. It is an unbelievable shame that a community’s primary server has to shutter its doors in protest to get even a small response from the team reiterating its commitment to the era. Do we have to lose even more frustrated players and server operators for ED to send some TLC the way of warbirds?2 points

I don't really understand this discussion. We already have FC3 MiG-29A and it's quite clear what weapons it can carry. MiG-29A is a good matchup for M-2000C, F-14 or F-4E. Not a F-16C Block 50 from ca. 2007. It's never going to be a fair fight against Amraam/datalink capable jets.2 points

@currenthill Would it be possible to add an AI Su-27SM or Su-35? There used to be an Su-35 mod for DCS but it's officially not available any more so we don't have any realistic Russian CAP aircraft for modern conflicts. There is an Su-30 mod of course but I just can't look at the messed up geometry of its tails and canards. Would be amazing if you could add something with the sort of quality you always make so that we could have realistic Russian CAP flights. Thanks for your awesome work!2 points

we have no plans for subscriptions. Again lets stay on topic here. thank you2 points

I really appreciate that the Normandy map gets a lot of updates and attention, but it seems like every 2-3 months the frequency of every airfield changes. Which means I need to update every single one of my campaign missions, again and again. Also, sometimes parking spot numberings change too, that fundamentally mess up existing missions. Can you please tell me when the frequencies will be final? Only then I will update my missions, because I've done this 3 times already, and it's pretty tedious. Also, in the future please consider non-destructive updates, making sure that updates don't break existing content. Thank you2 points

Have to agree. There was a saying “Pay full to enjoy early, pay a few bucks less and enjoy later.”TM It is entirely up to you.2 points
