  1. Been wanting to cover this for a while to clear some things up. I am 47Driver on YouTube, some of you have been watching my videos on the DCS CH-47F, (I really appreciate that), and everybody wants to know about all these weird acronyms that I mention, along with many others. First of all I want to point out something in regards to the flight model. I see a ton of complaints about how unrealistic it is, etc. Yes, the FM is very WIP and that is what it is. Tandem Rotor physics are straight up wizardry. This is far and away the most complex flight model that ED has ever tried to replicate, and I can say that confidently as an actual Pilot of this aircraft and someone who understands a fair bit about aerodynamics. Tandem rotor helicopters are very weird, and what I'm seeing in the flight model so far indicates that the devs have done their research on how these helicopters behave when none of the things that are built in to help you fly are working, which is true in the module's current state. Please keep that in mind as you fly this thing. AFCS: Automated/Advanced Flight Control System. This alone is what makes the Chinook so easy to fly. Put your feet flat on the floor, don't touch the pedals, and fly all day long. Thanks Turn Coordination. She's very smooth, steady, coordinated, and controllable when this system is on. When the AFCS in DCS is fully fleshed out, it's gonna make a huge difference. DAFCS: Digital Advanced Flight Control System. Super cool autopilot(ish) functionality. Basically allows us to capture current Inertial Altitude or Radar Altitude, maintain low speed over the ground via TRC or Translational Rate Command, or capture current position over the ground via P-Hold. P-Hold + Altitude mode = perfect hands off hovering. We also have a full 4 axis autopilot via Flight Director for cruise/instrument flight. DASH: Differential Air Speed Hold. As you increase speed, the DASH, (a long tube in the flight controls with an actuator on each end) will decrease in length. You'll notice eventually when this is modeled that as you increase speed, you'll actually start moving cyclic backwards towards center and the aircraft will keep the speed. Pretty nice and allows us to fly with a more neutral cyclic position. LCT: Longitudinal Cyclic Trim (Actuators). As speed increases, the LCTs will extend, this will increase forward tilt in both the fwd and aft heads. Allows a more level fuselage at cruise and reduces stress on rotor system. You'll be flying at 140kts and the fuselage will be completely level with the horizon. No more staring at the ground 10deg nose low anymore. When you land, the LCTs drive to the GND position, allowing easier ground taxi. When you hover, they drive to the RET position to facilitate a level hover attitude. DCP: Differential Collective Pitch. This is mostly why the Thrust Lever is called the Thrust Lever and not a collective. DCP comes from longitudinal cyclic input. Forward cyclic increases collective pitch on the aft rotor system while decreasing collective pitch on the fwd, and vice versa. So basically, the cyclic is also a collective... Hope this clears some things up and helps you folks understand why the flight model feels so weird right now. With most of these things not being implemented yet, because I'd imagine they're all very hard to simulate, the Chinook is gonna fly a little weird. I'm still having a great time with the module and I'm very excited for more systems depth to be added, so I can continue to share with you guys. Thanks! 47Driver

  5. All: For the painting community, I really want to paint this bus of a helo but no template has been released. So I made it for all to use. In the below link, you will find PSDs with UV Maps and all marking recreated and in separate layers. While this is not nearly the level of detail we see in official releases, it is a good start and the UVs are what matter imo. There is also a test livery in there that I made while in the process creating the template. This is only for testing and will not be uploaded to the user files. Please note: This template only covers the external of the aircraft. I did include the helmet. Hope this helps and cant wait to see what the community does with liveries! - Fatty https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/16rCvwrG1W9KiZv3L8SKBqskV8Q2jSEd0?usp=sharing

  6. Version 2.3.0 -- MAJOR UPDATE -- 20240815 Ooof. Let's not dwell on past unpleasantries. This update is BIG, and on the bright side it contains some really, really nice new additions to DML: First, it contains an unassuming module TWN, which does some really black magic, in a cool way: it adds local (map) references to locations. It automatically integrates with other modules, and the only module where you, the mission designer, have to learn something new is for wildcards: there are two new wildcards that can access named map locations. The other big, chunky module that has officially reached release status is 'Convoy'. Yeah, Rubber Duck. With an attitude. Create convoys, have helicopters escort them, and randomize the heck out of them. Have intelligence report, and of course it integrates automatically with TWN, so you always know where a convoy is on a map. Really cool, and the heart of an upcoming COIN-based mission that I might be able to release soon. And there are the other changes, in gory detail: Documentation Main NEW: Convoy NEW: TWN NEW: Escort Convoy Tutorial Quick Ref NEW Convoy Demos Bombs away (update) Escort Convoy (NEW) Reaper, man! 7. Version 1.50 -- MAJOR UPDATE -- Back to operations! Well, finally. The Aug-09 release seems to have corrected some issues, left others, and added some new strangeness. This Expansion update attempts to mitigate the worst damage wrought by unannounced and likely unintended changes made by ED with past three updates. Since those updates also brought some (welcome) new DCS abilities, version 1.5 brings preliminary support for the CH-47 Chinook, dynamic player spawning (only available in multiplayer), all to be tested and confirmed over the next few weeks. Version 1.50 currently is HOT only, I'll add a cold version as soon as this release settles. Details: • massive DCS code hardening (Jul-11, Jul-22, Aug-09 releases) • support for dynamic player spawns (MP only) on some airfields/FARPS • QoL: csarMissions provide local info • delayed check for FARP ownership, 10 seconds after mission start so that airfields captured with exotic methods (e.g. Olympus) still correctly work after mission reload • massively upgraded convoy code and reporting ability • added CH-47F Chinook to all airfields • made Hook a troop carrier • added cold Hooks • added Hooks to the CSAR-enabled roster • did not create a cold version (yet), will wait for feedback first

  8. AviaStorm On this day of August 14th 1974 the Tornado made it's first flight from Manching in Germany. Crewed by Paul Millett and Nils Meister the Panavia Tornado first tookoff at 17:21 with the flight lasting 33 minutes. This marked the start of one of the most successful multinational fighter jet programs of the cold war. We are very excited to be bringing this iconic aircraft to DCS, and are looking forward to sharing more very soon.

  9. The Seawise Giant has been hijacked! While on its way to Bahrain, the tanker has come under control by stow aways. The crew could bring them self to safety in the ship's safe room. As part of the rescue operation you are tasked to fly a boarding team to the tanker and drop them off by fast roping - at dawn. This mission is a complete rework of my old mission for the UH-60L mod, with all new voiceovers and some added features. The mission contains: - about four dozen quality voice overs - custom kneeboard page with boarding zone briefing picture - custom kneeboard pages containing a mini tutorial on how to create a manual waypoint - simple ai co-pilot who will perform the fence in/out (lights/ASE) - custom ATC (do not use ingame ATC!) Skill requirements: - cold start - manual waypoint creation in the nav system - night flying - precision hovering Persian Gulf map is required. Enjoy! https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3340060/

  13. On a related note, for anyone interested in all the many considerations that go into designing and improving flares, I found a (publicly available, unclassifed) document called GENESIS of INFRARED DECOY FLARES: The early years from 1950 into the 1970s, by a person working at Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division. I haven't read it in detail, but have skimmed it, and it discusses things like the pyrotechnic composition, ignition time and reliability, radiating spectrum, safety, visible plume area, liquid vs solid pyrotechnics, effects of aircraft speed, and many other factors. There is way more that goes into countermeasure flare design than I had ever thought.

По умолчанию папка _downloads естественно пустая, потому что апдейтер удаляет архив после завершения распаковки файлов в папку с игрой.

I dont think as users we should need to deep dive into our systems to keep having to try and recover big drops in performance after almost every " update" . This has never happened in any other Sim I have ever used. Its honestly hurting the experience for a LOT of us. To enjoy the Sim, you should NOT need to be a PC master, or deep dive guru. We are being forced to do this by DCS, and its driving LOTS of people away.

  16. That's overdue! There is nothing about the ARC-210 radio in the manual. And the CCRP HUD display for the likes of GBU-38, CBU-105 etc. still show the old version. When I recently came back to the A-10C III trying to use the CBU-105 (which was one of my favorite weapons eralier) I was lost. In my desperation I ran the training mission, only to find that this mission also shows the old CCRP HUD. In the end I happened to find the right way of course, but the reference material should be updated when new features are added or existing features change! And the A-10C is not the only subject where user manuals are outdated. And to @Yurgon's point: yes there is a lot of information about the A-10C, but it's all over the place; and even though I'm a retiree, I don't want to spend my time searching for scattered information not even knowing whether the various pieces I find are correct. And the didactic quality of what I find is mostly questionable to say it politely.

  22. Hi rotary pilots! Is there any plan to get the Mi-8 a level up in terms of texture and new features? It has one of the best (if not the best) helicopter FM out there but it's now aging a bit compared to new ones and it might be appropriate to have what it deserves. It still rocks but I think it should be upgraded considering what we are getting in terms of quality at the moment (see Apache and Kiowa).

  24. i hope i can come up with a fun mission arcade like, along with serious tactical oriented mission for you and the community because of what DCS offers and i am able to build a Doorgun joystick to employ with VR.. its amazing. no other sim allows this, and i am flabbergasted that theres not more out there... i mean who doesn't like pew pew, or 'get some'.. if i can inspire others and grow more possibilities, then it just means more fun, and even more.. as i would like to see planes with joystick controlled turrets. unfortunately i can not mass produce, but maybe someday, a doorgun joystick is something someone else and mass produce, and then you have more pilot gunner coordinations. a few years ago, the Doorgun joystick was functional for the Huey.. then it appeared on the Hind! followed by the Hip! 3rd party @Polychop Simulations gave some life to the doorgun joystick with the gazelle minigun variant (hoping for the slew fix) and now the chinook has functional joystick doorguns... thank you for sharing.. i like to keep this story going. also want to thank @PilotMi8 for first giving life to the doorgun joystick for the UH1H module.. and @Flappie for passing word to devs so that it was possible on hind and hip!

  25. Yeah when returning from the exercise I got no instructions when reaching waypoint PIUTE. Last altitude I was aksed to maintain was 14.000 ft and wasked if I was aware of Indiana Springs noise abandment procedures. I also ended up running out of fuel right over the Airbase,(and thus altitude and speed), but I probably shouldn´t have done 3 x 360° substained turns and 3 Eggs in full burner. So a small tip - look after Your fuel gauge ! Otherwise is it a very great Campaign so far - very immersive - so THX

  27. The MiG21 was the module that paved the way, the first, and for that we will always be grateful to the community. The 21 as an airplane is one of the most used and sold in reality and at the same time one of the few "from the bad side" that you can find at DCSW. I think, from my point of view, that the company tries to keep it operational for DCSW but it is true that being so old it suffers more clearly from these problems. A clear point is the navigation system, logically we do not want a modern system, but at least when there is a new map that we can use RSBN, ARK and that it is not the community that has to make its own assisted radio templates. I had a great time with the MiG21, but those who still use this aircraft will almost certainly migrate to ED's MiG29 unless, as in reality, it undergoes an update to a modernized version and suddenly they release a Lancer or similar. Then there is the company, whether or not it has the will to update it (at least keep it operational) or release another version of the MiG21, but looking at future projects I don't think it will happen. Español: Regarding the statistics, from Rudel_chw..., eso, amigo mío es indicativo, o debería serlo, para la compañía pues de ser los pioneros y haber tenido una gran ventaja competitivas han perdido su lugar y su módulo de bandera, el MiGuelito21 ha quedado como algo residual para algunos de nosotros que somos muy muy fanáticos de ese avión.

  30. The 'break away' message seems to be triggered too easily, but you can just ignore it and still connect. As for tips, the Harrier is tricky in AAR, due to the location of the probe. As always ensure you are properly trimmed, and try to focus on the refueling aircraft rather than chasing the basket.

  32. You need to view the individual CPUs using resource monitor. Even at 20% one core could be working at 100% and make DCS stutter. While multi threading has been introduced to DCS, it’s a WIP and many things are still all routing through the primary thread from what I can tell. E-Cores are another matter. Use project lasso to restrict DCS to P Cores only to get around that. (I’ve already done that before testing and posting my results).

43. Do we need to beg, ED? I can somewhat understand that in the past this may have been an extremely low priority, but now that we've begun getting official flyable unarmed transports in the game, the time for this to be implemented has come. Actually, it seems like every few newsletters you announce some random upcoming visual feature like highly detailed pilot eyelashes or aircraft tire flex. Surely, being able to see (even lower texture) personnel that you're carrying in a combat game makes sense, right? The larger the aircraft get, the worse seeing no troops feels. Is the back of the C-130 gonna be empty too?

But yes, I'm holding back and letting the developers do their thing the way they want. But I won't buy a module from the developer. Because it should be really clear what we want, but that will never happen.
