07 February 2025 Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends, We are making steady progress on our upcoming Pacific Theatre of Operations for DCS. We are also working hard on a historic and immersive asset pack that will provide a wealth of legendary AI aircraft, ground, and naval assets that defined a pivotal chapter in WWII history. Read the details below. Check out our latest progress on the DCS: CH-47F module and make sure you stay tuned as we continue to enhance the most authentic heavy-lift helicopter experience possible with new flight modes, new liveries, and more! Don’t miss this last opportunity to grow your online experience during our DCS Lunar Sale, ending on the 10th of February 2025 at 15:00 GMT! Thank you for your passion and support. Yours sincerely, Eagle Dynamics Pacific Theatre of Operations Announcement With the creation of the free modern-day Mariana Island map, we announced our intention to create a World War II scenario that covers the momentous Mariana Islands events of Summer 1944. In addition to an almost complete recreation of the map based on our latest map tools and years of historical research, we have also been creating AI air, land and sea units from the United States Navy and the Imperial Japanese armed forces for this period and location. This is in parallel with player-controlled aircraft such as the DCS: F6F Hellcat. As part of Operation Forager, these scenarios will provide the most important mission types of the era including the air-to-air, air-to-ground, and anti-ship spread over the battles for Saipan, Guam, Tinian, and The Battle of the Philippine Sea. Mariana Islands 1944 Map & WWII Pacific Pack Although we were able to use some of the elevation mesh from the modern-day version of the Marianas map, the vast majority was redone to account for the correct buildings, airfields, agriculture, roads and rails, ports and urban areas. We also retextured the entire map surface to improve quality and accuracy. Based on our experience with the modern-day version, we are carefully ensuring good performance too. Detailing the vast number of units for this theatre has extended the development period and hence the release of the Hellcat too. In parallel, we’ve been creating a large PTO assets pack including the SBD-5 Dauntless dive bomber, A6M5 Zero, Nakajima B6N Jill torpedo bomber and D4Y Judy dive bomber for the Imperial Japanese Navy. Naval operations will naturally form a critical aspect of Operation Forager and we’ve been developing many vessels spread over different types. For the USN we have the USS Enterprise aircraft carrier, Iowa-class battleship, Cleveland-class light cruiser, and Fletcher-class destroyer, and for the IJN we have the Shokaku aircraft carrier, Yugumo-class destroyer, Kongo battleship, and Mogami cruiser currently. As the ground battles between the US Marine Corps and the Imperial Japanese Army raged furiously across Saipan, Guam, and Tinian, we’ll be including multiple tanks, amphibious vehicles, artillery, anti-aircraft, guns, and infantry. We are planning more aircraft such as the SB2C Helldiver, TBF Avenger, and Catalina for the USN and the D3A Val and B5N Kate for the Japanese. All these and a substantial number of other assets and AI units will be available in the DCS: WWII Pacific Pack. Please be aware that owners of the existing WWII Assets Pack will benefit from a 30% discount. CH-47F Development Progress We are refining both flight systems and overall immersion for the DCS: CH-47F. Below are some of the key developments currently in the works: Low Speed Regime Modes for DAFCS We are introducing refined low-speed control logic for the Digital Automatic Flight Control System (DAFCS), including Transitional Rate Command, and Position Hold. These features aim to enhance control authority and stability when operating in tight confines or during hover transitions. More Accurate Damage Model Ongoing improvements to the damage model will better reflect real-world vulnerabilities and structural limitations of the CH-47F, adding an extra layer of realism to combat and challenging operational scenarios. CDU & MFD Enhancements Continuous upgrades to the Cockpit Display Unit (CDU) and Multi-Function Displays (MFD) will provide more accurate data presentation and system interactions. A proper Standby Flight Display (SFD) is also slated for a future update. Advanced Rope Physics We’re working on a new rope physics model that offers improved behaviour, supporting multiple ropes simultaneously. This will significantly enhance sling loading operations and troop insertion/extraction scenarios. New Skins You may also expect a variety of new liveries in an upcoming DCS update. Lunar Sale Final Hours Last chance to expand your DCS experience with something you have dreamt of getting for a great price. Good news, the Assests Pack for Pacific theater are very welcomed (and the discount). I hope the pack will be released COMPLETE, because the former WWII Assests Pack is, after many years, incomplete for most of the AI planes promised.6 points

Really pleased with what I've read in this newsletter. It seems that finally, for the first time ever it seems, we're getting a theatre with a coherent and comprehensive set of modules (though lacking IJN) and assets, on an appropriate map. The assets themselves look incredible and if we actually get everything stated here, then I'd say it would be worth the money, provided we also get functionality that is currently missing. The other thing that currently still seems to be missing are the guns for the Enterprise. The great thing about doing it this way is that it provides maximum flexibility over what we've had previously - before our asset, module and map selection only allowed for completely fictional scenarios and made it impossible to make anything historical (even alternate history with a historical-ish Order Of Battle was pretty much off the table). This allows us to not only do the former, but also the latter.4 points

Ok so here's the final versions - one invisible for the natural look and one visible for where the ground is too uneven, or if you like that look. Two mission files, each with both FARPs side by side. Caucasus so everyone has access to it, Syria to showcase the desert look. Hope you like them. Yes because it would fit all the late Cold War Soviet roster, like MiG-29 9.12, Mi-24P, MiG-21bis, Mi-8, Su-17M, MiG-23MLA etc. Yes because this original Su-25 is just exceptionally fun to play, like a bigger jetipowered IL-2, all werapons, guided and unguided are within visual range, it's all about skill, flying, aiming, dodging, navigation. Everything about original Su-25 is engaging and fun.4 points

In high-level BFM, every degree counts... and at our current AOA limit (with guns loaded and balanced fuel), we can't even reach maximum lift, so our ITR and min radius are limited. Documentation suggests we should be able to reach roughly 28 (true) degrees AOA guns loaded... right now we're can't get past 21-22 without first lightening the nose of fuel or ammo, which can still only achieve about 26° with both empty. (Note that the in-cockpit AOA indicator does not show true degrees, but arbitrary units, typical of the time)3 points

Wow! Just made my week-end, best news in a long time Impressed with the expanded list of AI assets, but hope they stick to it, as Esac_mirmidon says, but don't mind if they release in batches, as long as they complete the list over time. Can't wait! Hawkeye60 also working on a WWII Pacific's assets pack separately. Coming soon at 100% discount3 points

Yes, I flew Su-25 in DCS. Moreover, this is my main airplane. I spend a lot of time flying it. Su-25 excels at such speeds, when being handled properly. this is exactly what I mean. Weak a2a capability in favor of best in class survivability. Still, it can fire those R-60s. You know what that means? I know. It just means that no one can make a proper mission for Su-25. Really, I have never seen a single good online mission for the Su-25. They are all bad. The mission's creators should stop putting Su-25 into missions for the frontline/fighter bombers. This is how multi-role plane should perform. Su-25 is strictly specialized and waay better in its job than Su-27/MiG-29. Let's not mix A-10 and Su-25. They belong to the same class due to **some** of their characteristics. looks like someone needs to get better knowledge about Su-25 employment. Well, I'm not going to convince you. It doesn't look like you are open to change your mind.3 points

My tracks tend to be very unreliable, but i can talk you through my procedure. First of all, i now manage to fly "safely", but i wouldn't dare landing or even doing anything more than 30° bank angle. My procedure/setup: 2*Sidewinder (wingtip), 2*GBU-16 (inner wing), (outer underwing stations empty), Big droptank (belly station), ~70% internal fuel before dropping first bomb When flying don't drain the external belly tank (i feel the weight helps a bit and after you dropped both bombs you can quickly transfer all the fuel to your internal tanks). After dropping the first bomb immediately put in aileron trim as needed (and you'll need a lot) and rudder trim to 90-100%. Keep airspeed under 400 (drag) and over 300. You should be able to get the aircraft to fly straight without much further input. Now keep an eye on airspeed and watch your sideslip indicator. Changes to speed, AOA, bank angle will upset the aircraft a bit, but you can counter that with rudder. Keep bank angle below 30 and make smooth inputs. *** Next time i want to try draining the internal fuel asymmetrically. Do you know how i would do that? One Booster pump off and crossfeed on? ps: I pity those who think FBW aircraft are cool. pps: I had flaps on auto, but i think it might be worth experimenting with one of the other settings to minimize changes in configuration from auto flap system...3 points

I dont have any ETA yet, I hope we can share news soon, its going to be a big improvement. Sure hope us helicopter transport pilots can actually see them in the back of our helicopters when we transport them into combat. As a Huey and Chinook enthusiast that would be great news, at last. Happy landings, Talisman3 points

Been fooling around with the ASUS TUF 5090 card in our labs and on average, it only beats the 4090 by 21% across most major titles. (And I don't mean the hand-picked titles that Nvidia showed at their reveal presentation.) As many of you know, this card requires up to 600 watts of power (the 4090 requires up to 450) and if you are overclocking everything else, you safely need a 1200 watt PSU. It requires a 33% increase in power over the RTX 4090 to provide a 21% improvement at the screen, ... which is pure s$%! for a flagship card. And that does not even take into account the very large price bump. (The ASUS TUF we were able to secure was almost $2500 US dollars compared to the $1780 ASUS TUF RTX 4090 we procured back in Nov, 2022.) Specifically, for DCS while using the Reverb G2, the Quest Pro, the Quest 3, the Varjo Aero, the Pimax Crystal, and the Somnium VR Ultimate Edition: (the G2 and Q3 are using Mbbuchia's Fixed Foveated rendering mode, while the Pro, Aero, Crystal, and Ultimate are using Mbbuchia's true eye-tracked quad views) G2 - 11.3% increase over the RTX 4090 with Fixed Foveated Q3 - 14.8% increase over the RTX 4090 with Fixed Foveated Q Pro - 17.3% increase over the RTX 4090 with true Quad Views/eye tracking Aero - 14.4% increase over the RTX 4090 with true Quad Views/eye tracking Crystal - 11.8% increase over the RTX 4090 with true Quad Views/eye tracking Ultimate - 13.4% increase over the RTX 4090 with true Quad Views/eye tracking Forum member Flextremes below mentioned that the 5090 should respond well to the 4k+ pixel heavy demands of VR with the card really showing its muscle with the high-end headsets and resolutions (think Aero, Crystal, and Somnium). I expected the same but sadly, I have not found that to be true. Of course, DCS World is not a game which currently offers DLSS 4 which the 5090 is custom built to made to take advantage of. Still, imho, this is the worst generation of flagship cards in the last decade. Although we don't have one in our labs, it seems the 5080 will not beat the 4090 in anything. I do not recommend the RTX 5090 for DCS with VR. (Some will ask what settings I am using - In short, ... everything maxed to the hilt. Mbbuchia's Quad Views does not work well with Lens Effects or Bloom, so those are off. Except for that, I've got everything, ... shadows, water, terrain, clouds, etc ... maxed at high or ultra. I am using DLSS with AF 16X. I am able to fly with the Quest Pro at 72 fps. To get that or higher with the Aero, Crystal, or Somnium, I have to dial back some things if I run at those respective headset's native resolutions. The very, very best combination of detail and definition and color gamut is through the Somnium VR1 Ultimate but very, very, few are ever going to be able to shell out $4300 for a headset. A tiny, tiny, smidgen down from there for absolute best is the Aero. Overall though, ... and quite surprisingly given its low native resolution, ... the high-end sweetspot imo is the Quest Pro. By dialing up the resolution (through the desktop Link software) and using Quad Views, you get 95% of the eye candy of the Aero, Crystal, or Ultimate at a far cheaper price. Temperature wise, the 5090 tends to run about 4 deg C higher on average than the 4090. After a good hour of flying the Hornet in Syria or Dubai, I had GPU temps of 74 deg C and memory temps of 84 to 85 deg C (the RTX 4090 sitting in my second rig under my office desk averaged about 69.5 deg C on the GPU and about 77 deg C on the memory in the same situation with the room temperature set at 72 deg F). The actual work being done by the card (wattage is electrically speaking, work) averaged 570 watts over this one hour. From a noise perspective, the 5090 was the ASUS TUF card I used was almost identical to the ASUS 4090 TUF version. I have not overvolted the 5090 card yet, nor have I overclocked it.) (Edit - Had time to today to add the Aero and Crystal to the results)3 points

Both Su-25 and Su-27 deserve to be implemented as FFM if we are talking about CW or even modern scenarios What scenarios? Deep strike? It's not that simple, so let's compare. This is not Su-25 primary task, but still there's tradeoff between survivability and a2a capabilities. Su-25 can fly 750-800 km/h at 40m AGL and it's actually being used in this way. Su-27 or every other multi-role jet won't fly faster than that anyway, because it's too dangerous. But no multi-role jet is able to survive enemy fire, while Su-25 has a very good chance of withstanding AAA fire and many types of guided missiles I can say similar thing about Su-27 or MiG-293 points

Su-25T would require different flight model and flight performance then Su-25, different engines, different weapon system, different cockpit/HUD/TV etc. Basically a work of a full new module. Not worth as there were just 8 prototypes, later cancelled and rebuilt.3 points

Frankly this announcement leaves me with a bitter taste in my mouth, doing a Pacific theater without a flyable Zero is like doing the Battle of Britain without the 109E, you know what we do with a Zero AI... Nothing, they don't want to understand that WWII pilots before this are passionate about history and they don't think in terms of single airplanes but in terms of historical context, we're back to the usual, on the American side there's the Hellcat and presumably the Corsair if they decide to release it, on the Japanese side......nothing...., but we can always use a 190A8 with the skin of a Zero as already seen in the past....2 points

Finally had a chance to fly and figured I’d add a short video of how I do it. Assuming you’re not landing heavy—here I’m landing with roughly 35% (1,100 kg) fuel and 6 R-73s—try to keep the tach in the 77-79% range as you descend toward the runway. Ideally you’re crossing the inner marker at a height of 50-60 meters with a speed in the 300-310 km/hr range. If you’re a little high, shift your aim point to just short of the runway for a bit to flatten out the descent. Then refocus on your original aim point. Your speed crossing the runway threshold should be in the 280-290 range. As the left edge of the runway comes into view, look left and forward, rather than straight ahead, to better judge your height above the surface. FWIW, I seldom pay attention to the AoA. Rather I keep an eye on the HUD pitch scale (notice that, when I shift my focus left and forward, I keep the scale in view). Do not let it go higher than 10 degrees. At 10, there is no chance of your tail or engine nacelles hitting the ground. Add a bit of throttle if it’s approaching 10 with no desire to stop. If you hold it at 10 at this point by adjusting the throttle, the proper landing speed (and AoA) will sort themselves out. Throttle to idle, when you feel you’re just above the runway and settle to the ground.2 points

When you hit the key command for the DCS built-in performance metrics (RCtrl+Pause?) it opens another floating window with lots of additional info, including current (real-time) FOV. I fancied below 60 deg so I set it right in the DCS graphics (system) settings. A kind reminder: seat height adjustment is bugged (reported). You need to untick 'Show pilot body' in DCS to inhibit the bug until it is resolved.2 points

Luckily, HB is not ED, they had always had higher fidelity standards than ED did. We may not get the AWG-71, but we know that what we do get is premium quality. For what it's worth, the argument about Iranians is what the US government says to, or used to say to, anyone asking questions about the Tomcat. That said, AFAIK even the Iranians aren't flying the Tomcat anymore, so I don't know how it is now, but the Pentagon bureaucracy isn't exactly known for its responsiveness (though it might be worth shooting them some FOIA requests, just to see what they'll now say). That said, I think we've got another way around all the secrecy problems. Just get Musk hooked on DCS and soon we'll be swimming in formerly classified aircraft documentation. Either that, or he gets shot trying to muscle in on some secret squirrels. I can see no downside to this solution.2 points

Please don’t let this die. There are talented folks here that want to bless the community with their artwork and that’s a good thing.2 points

OK, time to join in. I planned on making my own issue report but it seems our observations overlap. So, in the order from specific (1A through 1C) to general with regard to deep night cockpit lighting 1A. Knobs and switches on the side left and right consoles are invisible in dark night conditions while in reality the mere ambient light that the panel backlight give out would be enought to light them. The darker the night, the clearer the phenomenon. 1B. Knobs and switches should even more so be visible in the presence of dedicated ambient lighting in use anywhere in the cockpit. 1C. Not a single cockpit component should be anywhere close to invisible at night unless in an outright shadow. If anyone intends to insist on blinding effects, let's be real here. This sort of mechanism can only be achieved once the overall cockpit lighting is sorted and even then it will remain highly debatable due to the differences between accomodation of a real eye in such an environment and the perception in a display-player setup. 2. The left and right consoles seem to be barely affected by cockpit ambiet lighting overall. I know all GPU coding is cheating but the F-5E side panels seem to have gotten the dirty end of the stick. They seem to have "affected by ambient lighting" attribute "not enabled." 3. The two ambient behind-the-ear lamps are non-functional. They do light up and blind the player if in the field of view being 100% white but don't give any meaningful lighting effects to the cockpit panels, consoles etc. For starters, here's a full video recording of one of my test flights. I've done several sessions in that particular IA night flight Caucasus mission. Sometime later I'm going to include a track file. Additionally, here's a photo of a real F-5E panel with backlight on, 100% brightness. ... EDIT: Track file attached. You can use Nvidia Profile Inspector (the Orbmu2k one) and then in the Other section set Enable DLSS-SR Override to 1 and Override DLSS-SR presets to 0x000000A for J or 0xFFFFFFF for latest (preset K). This means you don't need to swap dlls as it will use the one from the driver. If you want to use OVGMe then in the folder you currently keep your mods for this create a DLSSTweaks folder, and then a bin and bin-mt folder under that. Put the dlls in that folder. When you enable the mod it'll put them in the right folder, basically it overwrites stuff based on the same folder structure as the core games folders. DLSS Swapper is also really easy for this and you can download and switch dlss versions without manually copying stuff. If you followed that video you would have created a new registry key that turned that text (the hud overlay) on. Just remove the registry key again.2 points

We are looking at what makes the most sense, right now the top thing would be at least a refresh texture option in the sim to allow changes to be loaded, but it all takes time and its about having someone free to work on it. I am still keeping on it though, and Management does recognize that its important to offer these features.2 points

I actually tried MP for over a year, with a spanish-speaking Squadron, and for me boring was: having to wait for that last chap to arrive to the Briefing and while waiting, having to endure the bad jokes, rude comments, and juvenile lingo over the intercom and once the mission did start, enduring the interminable questions of those that didn't fully knew their aircraft and of course witnessing the ones that abandoned the mission mid course so it wasn't uncommon that a 2 hour mission evolved into a 3 hours plus affair, where no one had any time for a proper return to base or debriefing. So, finally able to fly by myself isn't really boring to me, its truly enjoyable2 points
