For the last two days I was working hard to gerther and put all the data on the paper of the RSBN navigational system for Germany Cold war map. I was really surprised how many air bases Russians have made (or adjusted to their needs) after the WWII in the span of 20-30 years on such small erea as is East Germany. There are over 60 air bases, which is incredible number, I doubt that the dencity is bigger any where else in the world. In the rsbn file for Mig-21 there are all the air bases included which were/are there in real life on the East Germany in Phase 1. I also added few more air bases which in real life didn't have the RSBN beacon, these are all the rest of air bases which have tarmac runways. I didn't work anything on the ARK yet, just so you know. So, which channels are included for the phase 1 (note: there are few airports on the far east which are already on the list, but not yet implemented into DCS, will come later in phase 2 or 3): - from channels 4 to 40: air bases with RSBN real life beacon - from 41 to 62: air bases without RSBN becon in real life Here is the Kneeboard which you will also see in the cockpit: -- How to install it: Simply unzip the content of the file into main folder DCS World OpenBeta. There is one file you guys have to edit, because I don't know how many maps do you guys have, so you have to do it by your self: Inside the folder: ...\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\aircraft\MIG-21bis\Cockpit\Systems edit the R_NAV_data.lua by adding this line of text: "GermanyCW" some where inside the brackets, I added it at the bottom. Just don't forget to add the comma after the penultimate map name and no comma after the last map name! This is my example: Maps_Table = { "Caucasus", "Nevada", "Normandy", "PersianGulf", "TheChannel", "SinaiMap", "Syria", "Kola", "GermanyCW" } ATTENTION: with editing this file, you will break the Integrity Check (IC) in the multiplayer, offline will work normally. If you want to use multiplayer, you will have to remove the map's name from the R_NAV_data.lua file. I hope the devs include these 2 things in the near future to be part of the DCS game so we can use RSBN navigation online as well. -- NOTE for all: if you find any issue please let me know here, so I can fix it. In the mission editor it's really hard to quickly identify and locate fixed-wing airfields due to the clutter of heliports/helipads. In the mission editor's map options menu (key icon) it would be nice if "heliports" could be added to the filter.4 points

OPEN STRESS TEST CLOSED - MISSION IS AVAILABLE AS DOWNLOAD After three INTENSE days (well, nights, actually) of work (don't you love Easter!) I've brought "Angels Caucasus" to Germany. I'm now putting the final touches on "Angels Over Germany", and I want you to help stress-test the mission before I release it to the community. So if you can fly a helicopter, own the new Germany map, and feel like you are up to the challenge of rescuing hordes of medical evacuees in Berlin, Hamburg and Frankfurt, head over to "cfrag's Flight Line" (no password, a Fox3 server, 40 players max) and help save the cold world. My plan is to release "Angels over Germany" in the next few days, and I appreciate your help stress-testing the mission. And yes, this map integrates with the other Angels maps, so if you have a history of rescuing people there, your past achievements are shown. Please add all feedback to this thread. Known issues - extremely ugly z-fighting on Finkenwerder ground objects. This is a map bug.4 points

Wow, really good job. Just outstanding! I thought Normandy 2.0 was awesome, and it is, but Ugra-Media may have outdone themselves with Germany. The detail is top-notch, I'm finding all kinds of interesting things in Berlin. It just looks fantastic from every angle. Really nice job! 10/10 My screenshot is poorly-composed and doesn't do it justice, but this map is a must-own IMHO.4 points

This should take care of it. If you could run some tests and then report back, that'd be great. B-21_AGM-158B.lua That's not a bug, it's a feature. They are configured that way, as I've told many times in this thread.4 points

As a Berliner who lived here in during cold war times and as a sim pilot who totally understands that this is neither a sightseeing simulator nor an attempt to rebuild googleearth or MSFS, I have to confirm that some things feel so off that its creating mixed feelings. I totally appreciate having my hometown in DCS, I mean I am clearly lucky, how many people around the globe can enjoy their place in DCS? Certainly not that many. I will create several threads around things and while it will earn me the accusation of being nitpicky for some of the reports, I can only say its really hard to determine what is and what isn't. I won't focus on sightseeing stuff. I only really aim for accuracy around things which make the Germany map a cold war map, an accurate depiction of cold war features. Regarding Berlin, I am so far happy about the airfields and the attempt of depicting the wall in its entirety. Though there is obvious issues: - all the famous border control facilities are missing - there is only a single train station in the entire city right now, which didn't even have a border function - railway operation areas are generally to green. Instead of lush meadows we should see industrial like stuff. - while soviet monuments are brilliantly modelled, the Berlin Airlift monument at the northwestern corner of Tempelhof airfield is missing - The East Berlin "Rotes Rathaus" city hall is in, the West Berlin "Rathaus Schöneberg" city hall isn't - besides the Teufelsberg listening post, none of the western allied facilities are depicted, none of the French, British and American barracks, training grounds, equipment and vehicle storage sites are there. Regarding Berlin, the general layout of roads is surprisingly accurate in most areas, while then for some reasons it isn't in few parts of the city. - Modern buildings are composed of just too few archetypes and are too few - Older pre-WW2 archetypes are much too widespread, almost the entire city center of the city had been destroyed to rubble in WW2 - older post-WW2 archetypes (think 1950s) are also too frequent - many of the civilian vehicles in combination with the recent two points I mentioned rather give the impression of a 1950s Berlin, far from the 1980 theme the map is aiming for. That's just my first impression and I will continue to provide further dedicated threads, not to condemn the great work Ugra has done already, but to support any improvements, in case they are willing to do them...4 points

I'm opening this thread to save me a lot of typing 1) Read the darn briefings. I spent ages building them, they will tell you everything you need to know about the missions. 2) even if you don't, the missions should still progress: it's because when there's something you absolutely MUST do, there will be a message on screen with a BEEP until you do it. If you ignore that message, the mission won't progress. A great example is the checklists. You won't get takeoff clearance until you complete the taxi checks. If you're not sure what you missed, check the message history menu, and also the checklist on your kneeboard. 3) Watch the tutorials on my YouTube channel. 4) There's a frequently occurring problem: one of the triggers is looking for the flaps being up. Many people only move to switch to the middle position (slats out), so the trigger doesn't fire. Make sure the flap switch really is in the UP position after takeoff 5) If you still get stuck, please post a screenshot of the message history menu so I can see the last messages. It's a lot more helpful than a track or tacview (which I don't even have) 6) I do not work for Heatblur, nor am I an ED developer, I have the same access to DCS as you. I know, sometimes it's not easy to tell what causes a bug, but I can not do anything if the core game gets broken or the F-4 does, it's best to report those issues to ED or Heatblur. E.g. there are no triggers that can make your game crash, and no ways of building a mission to make sure it doesn't happen. Just like the mission editor is not helpful if your joystick breaks, that's an extreme example, but you get my point Alright have fun, and remember to send me those screenshots of the message history menu if there is a problem. Thanks!4 points

57 NDBs across the map have their frequencies in thousands of kHz, so they end up as MHz and are unusable. This is easily noticeable on the mission editor map. They show correct ingame on F10 map, yet you can't receive these when tuned to the regular kHz number. Affected NDBs: West-Germany - Bremen BW and BMN - Hamburg FU - Hehlingen HLI - Braunschweig BRU - Fritzlar FTZ - Fulda FDA - Hahn HAH - Schweinfurt SCF - Giebelstadt GBL East-Germany - Leipzig-Halle SK, S, M and MA - Leipzig-Mockau G - Dessau WN and W - Cochstedt SL and S - Zerbst ZB, Z, K and KJ - Altes Lager LG, L, B, BM - Stendal U and UK - Neuruppin GK, G, W and WD - Finow RG, R, O and OM - Parchim AS, A, U and UU - Neubrandenburg T, T, D and DT - Tutow Y and YC - Laage RL, R, L and RL - Peenemünde EN, E, N and NE Berlin - Tempelhof DBR and DIP all these 57 NDBs require to have their frequencies corrected by division by 1000.3 points

The first couple are ready and I'll upload them shortly for anyone interested. Usual transition to war scenario, 198x. Starts with a transit to simulate forward deployment of the 91st TFS from Bentwaters and Woodbridge in Suffolk to Sembach in Germany (Bentwaters and Woodbridge would have then been backfilled with ANG F-16s). A quick Fulda fam-flight follows, and then into the thick of it from mission 3 onwards. Feel free to swap out the A for a C if you want. I'm fully conscious of the limitations of the FC3 aircraft, but prefer the authenticity of the 'map and stopwatch' A-model. No PLOGs, kneeboards or voiceovers. Usual caveats apply, apologies to the purists if units are not placed exactly as their wartime deployment plans, but I need to make a conscious effort not to drown myself in historical accuracy at times. As Stephen King said, 'don't get it right, get it written'.3 points

Preamble: I was born and raised in cold-war Hamburg; when I was 16, Nena published "99 Luftballons" and I met Barbara. I lived in Hamburg, served in the western military in Northern Germany, and left Germany for University a few days before the "Mauer" fell. In other words: I lived and breathed what this map intends to re-create. Summary: It's a great map to explore: beautiful, great color palette, green(!), a gazilion objects to look at, and performance is well contained even when flying in VR on low-end rigs like mine. Strategically, this map looks like it is begging for the A-10 (any version) to wallow in the mud; in the real world, it's of course the other way around: the Hog was made to live here. The map is filled with small airfields and enough objects to create a veritable smorgasboard of missions. The map has some short comings, but as a background (and - importantly - a Non-Dust Map) for missions, it seems really, really promising to me. The Long Form The map is great as a backdrop for combat missions with a veneer of authenticity, very much like Normandy II and Syria: there are landmarks rendered in beautiful detail that can help put you, your aircraft and your mission into context of some larger history. The visuals are exquisite, and performance is good even on my decidedly low-end rig (in VR!). The arrangement of airfields, military bases and points of interest on this map makes my 'mission creator' sense tingle, and I hope that it also encourages other content creators similarly (I'm aware that my initial feelings for the Sinai map were similar, but somewhere along the way, ORT dropped the ball, and long neglect of the map made people drop it from their "future project" list, making Sinai, beautiful as it is, a fading map). Now, as someone born and raised in Hamburg, is it worth investment based purely on accuracy? No. The good thing is that flying over Hamburg in a Jet, any local can instantly place themselves: dead reckoning is easy -- Hamburg is flat, and there are enough landmarks visible at all times to immediately know where you are if you were raised here. Look for the "Fernsehturm" (TV Tower), look for the "Michel" and by their relative locations you know where you are. The river Elbe makes this even easier should you get disoriented. But... You also instantly know that you are not in Hamburg: the building's colors and style are wrong. Most buildings in Hamburg are made from red bricks, and that color (in dark shades) permeates Hamburg; occasionally buildings may have whitewashed walls, but Hamburg is not nearly as colorful as the map makes it out to be. The Rathaus, Michel, Nikolaikirche and Fernehturm are fantastically made objects. They are, unfortunately, surrounded by too much generic stuff. And then, there are big, HUGE gaps: every kid knowns that moving up Mönkebergstrasse from Rathaus, you get to Hamburg Hauptbahnhof (Main Station), an imposing building that served half a million passengers on a daily basis even in 1980. Not on this map. There's a dinky rail, and a bridge. Following the rail west, every Hamburg-bred kid knows that you reach Dammtor, Sternschanze and Holstenstrasse, before you reach Altona. All really, really big, imposing buildings with vaulted roofs, built for steam locomotives. Not on this map. Altona is unrecognizable, the other stations are better ignored. The Süllberg, Hamburg's famous picturesque rich people quarter, is empty, and the less I speak of Hamburg's Harbor in the current state, the better. And no Köhlbrand Bridge. So, don't get this map for accuracy reasons. It's a GAME map, and although initially disappointed, the amount of beauty, compromises made and love invested in details, to make the compromises not too jarring, recaptured my interest. I've only occasionally been to Berlin and Frankfurt, and as someone who isn't native to either, those cities seem incredibly realistic from the air even in a helicopter. Knowing that they probably are as unrealistic as Hamburg does NOT diminish my enjoyment, so I'm thinking that my misgivings about Hamburg is a "me" problem. Simply don't fly (a Helicopter) in the city you grew up in, and the rest of the map is fantastic. Berlin's Wall area is drop-dead beautiful. Frankfurt is fantastic (mostly). Airfields abound on the map, and the Fulda gap beckons my Hog in a frankly disquieting way. Sure, Kiel is currently missing (never liked it much, but it is where the Bundesmarine is home), as are some other important cities. But Helgoland is there! (sans airfield, yet grinned when I discovered it). So, do I like it? Yes, even though Hamburg disappointed this kid from Hamburg. I doubt that this will bother anyone not born and raised there, listening to Neue Deutsche Welle while walking through Altona's streets, courting Barbara and trying to coax a smile from her icy blue eyes. Outside of that, a green map (the trees could use some more Birch, though), some fantastic (and truly deadly) topography (evading missiles in flat northern Germany is difficult), lots of POI, military objectives and well-rounded performance make this a promising map. It remains to be seen how content creators pick it up; I'm already thinking about creating a version of "Angels" (SAR) for this map; and yes, it's begging for "Der Himmel über Berlin" as title (a 1987 Wim Wenders film, "Wings of desire" in English, cheaply remade later as "City of Angels"). My personal verdict So: good/bad? I like it. YMMV. Let's see how other people enjoy it and it it gets picked up by the multiplayer community. Hummel, Hummel!3 points

Based on experience here, IMHO you're wrong on that. Setting a fixed pagefile has helped MANY users that were running out of memory. Windows can't adjust it fast enough to keep up in DCS if you're on the margins for memory. The one watchout is how full is your drive that your pagefile is on? You need at least 10-15% free space AFTER you deduct the amount you're setting pagefile to or you're going to run into issues with it anyway (and Windows won't use it if you leave it to the system).3 points

This map is already a contender for "Best Map of All Time", IMHO. It's just fantastic! There are so many air bases, if the one you want isn't modeled, use a another base as a stand-in. I mean, they have to release it at some point and 120 bases is really a lot. I think the Fulda Gap focus probably provides for the highest number of air+ground scenarios. Oh one minor thing, Ctl+F12 isn't taking me to my train. I'm sure it was a minor consideration and rightfully so, just throwing it out there as an FYI.3 points

I've released v1.4.0 SkyEye's macOS build has been fully overhauled in this release and is no longer marked as experimental; indeed, the macOS version of SkyEye is now the best version of SkyEye. I recommend you hop on the Flashpoint Levant server, which is already using the macOS version, and check out the near-instant speech recognition, and the new AI voice that is nearly indistinguishable from a human voice. Unfortunately the macOS build is not easy to install or deploy yet; you can currently manually run it through Terminal, but my eventual goal is to provide an easy installation through Homebrew. That's currently held up because the build process currently itself has a dependency on Homebrew, which creates a circular dependency... I may need to think of a creative solution, haha! Changelist: * The macOS version of SkyEye now supports GPU acceleration using Apple Silicon and the Neural Engine. In my benchmarks, the macOS version recognizes speech 3-10x faster than OpenAI's API, and about 50-100x faster than my Windows/Linux PCs. * The macOS version of SkyEye can now use Apple's Speech Synthesis Manager to speak with realistic AI voices. This requires some additional setup; if this additional setup is not completed, SkyEye falls back to the classic Siri voice from the iPhone 4S/iPhone 5/iPhone 6. * Fix the `auto-picture` flag not being respected. * Fix a bug where unarmed aircraft triggered threat callouts. * Improvements to speech recognition accuracy. * Other minor internal code improvements. https://github.com/dharmab/skyeye/releases/tag/v1.4.03 points

The more time I spend flying around the Vogelsberg, the more I enjoy this map. Flying along the roads is a real trip down memory lane. Sure, the towns and dorfs are generic, but they are in the right places, the roads and bridges are fairly well placed, the sugar beet fields are in the right spots. You can almost smell the sugar mills turning beets into sugar. (If you have never had the experience of smelling sugar beet mills, you are lucky). Now, to find the right spots to put SideKick65's Cold War missions into practice over the ground they really were made for!3 points

Thanks for the reminder! That's the issue with having too many simultaneous versions in development. I had prepared the YJ-12 and other fixes for the China pack 1.2.0. But since I needed to release the hotfix for CTD issues I only included the most important changes. But you're correct, I could cherry pick some of the other fixes also, since they've been around for a while. I'll release a 1.1.6 with them included. Military Asset Pack China 1.1.6 released! ^ Because almost noone here has ever lived in / was stationed in / visited on holidays Syria or Persian Gulf countries so majority has no idea how cities and town over there really look like anyway. Nor do they care. With recent maps, especially European ones, there are more "native" players well familiar with depicted places, so there will inevitably be more "nitpickers" and "rivet counters", in geographic sense this time, to point out various inaccuracies. However, as Normandy 2 showed already, Ugra aims more at providing a general feel of the region, with some impressive (albeit not accurate) details added here and there rather than trying to be super-authentic. All their maps need to be treated more as movie-style artistic impressions, but that's not a bad thing. I suspect I represent majority of average players - visited Berlin only once in my life for 3 days, loved every minute of it, but apart from section between Brandenburger Tor and Alexanderplatz (plus Flakturm at Humboldthain ) I couldn't really tell how close or not DCS representation is. It's good enough for combat missions though and that's what really matters for most of us here.3 points

For those who don't like the look of the bush and scrub on the airfields, it can harmlessly be removed the following way. Hide or rename the following files to remove bush and scrb; GermanyColdWar.sd5 Anabasis_setifera.ref Azalea.ref JuniperShrub.ref Hide or rename the following file if you want to remove the small trees found at some airfields; KousaDogwood.ref They can be found here; C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Mods\terrains\GermanyColdWar\surfaceDetails When you restart the sim the bush and scrub wont load and you will be left with just green grassy fields. The best bit is, this wont break IC because no files were replaced or changed. You will have to do this every time you repair or update DCS as the scrub will be restored. How to? The simplest way is to create new folder with in your surfaceDetails folder and name it _Hide, then the move the files you want to hide into there. Don't worry DCS and the map will run just fine with out them.2 points
